I re watched the fight. As unbiased as possible and I think that with the current scoring system it was probably scored ok. But they guy with the 10-8 in 3 was probably the best score. Conner clearly won round 1 and Nate clearly won round 5. Then Conner barely snuck out rounds 2 and 4 and Diaz destroyed Conner round 3 (over 2-1 in sig strikes with conner leaning up against the cage to survive.)
Lots of fighters tweeting they think diaz won and if it was scored like basketball or hockey where winning periods and quarters doesn't matter who wins the over all game/fight does he could have, but with these rules it was it is and if FAR FAR from the worst decision. I think if had come out draw or majority draw no one would have batted a eye.
Best news of the fight was it was a HELL of a fight, both are going to get paid again, and that is whether they do it right away or wait.
Also what a MAIN card. 4 stoppages and a war. What more could one ask for?

Sometimes I wonder who's running the replays, they kept going with the kick angle instead of the combo angle. If I was a trainer/ran a gym that combo would be on loop on the wall 24/7.
It was basically everything a trainer tells you you're practicing for.
I was surprised at how big Anthony Johnson is now. I hadn't seen him fight in a long time (I watched him live at UFC 104--god, I'm old--).
Larkin looked really impressive. Those body and leg kicks looked devastating. He will be interesting to watch in the next few years.
After so much hype, it's unexpected when that a fight can also be FOTY, but that is exactly what happened last night. It's a little surprising to me that some people think Diaz won round 2, but that's how you know it is a big fight that attracted a lot of casual viewers. Conor did look tired and in trouble at the end of the round, but he still did enough to win the round before that.
EDIT: my post came out harsher than I wanted to (would fix but too lazy). But not trying to say that anyone who sees the fight different is a casual viewer or completely wrong..
I think round 4 was awfully close and since "octagon control" and moving forward is supposed to matter I see where the confusion in round 2 and 4 come into play.
Other fighters have wiggled out of a USADA positive test and gotten it down to 6 months. Lesnar isn't going to be one of those guys because I don't think he is even going to mount a defense. He won tonight against Orton at SummerSlam. If Lesnar had any plans of leaving the WWE again for any kind of time at all Lesnar would've lost tonight.
So I think we'll see Lesnar get an uncontested 2 year suspension due to the positive USADA test. This won't impact his "work" in the WWE because the WWE's wellness policy only applies to full time performers; Lesnar is considered part time.
Sad my favourite Diaz lost. But holy hell was that one hell of a fight. I was going ballistic when Diaz was pounding on him against the cage in round 3. But props for Conor for staying relaxed under fire and coming out in the 4th in better form.

Rory probably needed to take a breather and fight some cans to build himself back up. How convenient that this opens up a GSP title run :^) Maybe a return at UFC 206 in toronto.
I think Rory is the first guy the ufc would be sad to see go. Phil Davis is great but boring and henerson is a bit the same and had faught just about everyone in lightweight. Whereas Rory had lots of good options and faught exciting fights
Rory could not even draw in Vancouver. I hope he cashes in with Bellator because he can't handle the UFC's top welterweights and he has quickly evolved into a gatekeeper.

Rory is easily a top 5 welterweight. He wrecked the current UFC champ with ease. If he loses in Bellator it'll be because Koreshkov is legit.

Not drawing does not make him a gate keeper. He is clearly top 5 and had a great war with the former champ and like was said destroyed the current champs.

there is no "because" in relating drawing power to gatekeeper in the 2 separate sentences. they have nothing to do with each other,
his nose is a big problem . if he fights guys well below his level he'll be able to avoid the issue with his nose. it'll be interesting to see if some surgical magic can fix his nose. any one and everyone is going to keep testing that ever growing nose.
Macdonald is a decision-machine with a 1-4 record against top welterweights. Of course he has KO'd such "superstars" as Mike Pyle and Tarec whatshisface.
^aw come on, Maia has been taking people down since he learned how to walk. Literally. He started judo at the age of 4. Nothing beats that much practice imho, TDD is not his best bet, I would work on my distance management or... something. No clue how you could stop someone like Maia if his plan is to take you down.
