A fans perspective of a fun fight is when they're standing there just alternating hitting each other in the head, that they are bloodied, look like they're on the verge of death, they keep alternating who is on the verge of getting knocked out until one does.
Then he said that as a fighter this doesn't make sense, you want to minimize damage, that's what a masterful display of MMA is.
So even from how he talks, it goes to show he doesn't care about what his fans think of his fights, he's in it to win, get a long win streak going, etc. I think GSP was much like that in his career, except more humble, but same thing, people only thought it was okay after he defended his belt numerous times. Maybe once Woodley has 6-8 title defenses, people will start looking at him differently. I personally would be a decent fan of him if it wasn't for him bringing up racism the way he does. Perhaps. But GSP always mixed up his game. I don't think he had a fight where he didn't at least punish the guy with ground and pound. He may have rode them for 5 rounds if they didn't have the wrestling to keep up with him but he was active not just backing up the whole fight. Even fitch did more in fights. And GSP most boring fights were ones he dominated. Woodley's super boring fights he is eeking out super close decisions. But like you say if he gets up into record breaking territory maybe. But DJ has, and has been a much more exciting fighter than woodley and people don't care about him. At least hardcore fans love DJ I'm not sure where Woodley will get his fan base with a unexciting style and he's pretty whiney in interviews which really doesn't endear him with fans.
i believe gsp landed 0 ground strikes against koscheck on the ground

Woodley will never have the same legacy as GSP. His style is too safe and doesnt draw attention, eyes will always be on the rest of the division. Ive never watched a Woodley fight in anticipation to see him perform.
GSP in the latter stages of his Welterweight reign was criticized for grinding out victories but in comparison Woodley has made GSP look even more technically diverse, cerebral and a finisher.
GSP is atleast able to attack while playing the safe game.

he has had a couple of boring "no hitters" ... so have others in the division. Lawler fight was a 2 minute KO. Kim fight was a 1 minute KO.

You can have a boring ko fight.
As i mentioned, but you use your selective reading as usual, you are the only person ive ever read or met that doesnt think woodley is boring. All the power to you, but you are alone. Also boring is a opinion its fine you disagree with me and 99.9% of the population. But rather then type results, do me a favor, go watch his last 5 fights and tell me they were interesting.

People call Thompson boring now after his last 3 fights. I dont think Woodley is boring either, he just had some tough mu's in Maia and Thompson. He is alot like old GSP in that he sticks to a gameplan that has the highest percentage to win the fight.
On another note, I think I'm the only one who thinks GSP didnt look impressive at all. Couldnt keep Bisping down in fact he was losing on the ground on top of him and Bisping isnt exactly known to be great of his back. He was also gassing really hard. I think he knows this and is looking for the big payday fight with Woodley next. After losing prob some Anderson fight and then he is done with it.

GSP got rocked by a Bisping elbow when he took him down, lol, and stay rocked for the rest of the fight. And GSP is going to fight Whittaker next, per his contract.

Personally I'd much rather have him vacate and move down to WW. Let Whittaker fight Rockhold for the belt, with how long Whittaker didn't fight for, most don't even feel like he's the real #1 right now... So if GSP won, people would just ask GSP to fight Romero or Luke next. If I'm the champ, I want to be fighting the clear #1.
That's why imo Woodley is completely right in looking for another fight. Thompson, Covington, RdA, and Robbie Lawler imo don't deserve a set in stone title shot. The only reason Woodley should fight one is if he's really adamant about defending right away. Winner of Thompson vs Darren Till fights winner of Colby vs RdA/Lawler for belt. In the meantime have Woodley have a fun fight against GSP/Nate/Rockhold.

i agree with the perspective provided in the post above. i'd like to add to it.
Woodley has revealed he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder. its a judgement call on his part whether or not he chooses to keep fighting with it or get the serious operation required to fix it.
Andrew Luck had a torn labrum and chose to get cortisone shots and eat pain killers for a year before finally getting the surgery. For some people "fighting through the pain" is not an option.. it depends on the way the Labrum is torn. It depends how much Woodley has lost in his shoulder mobility whether or not he can do what Luck did.
So Woodley does have a "i have a torn labrum and i'm getting surgery now" card he can also play. Chances are when he does this the UFC will create an interim WW belt.
Once the labrum in your shoulder is torn and it does not heal itself in a few months surgery has to happen. Sooner or later Woodley must have the surgery. THe danger is a further deeper tear when doing any kind of throwing motion. He could tear his labrum completely apart throwing an overhand punch.
Its pretty impressive that Woodley was able to beat Damian Maia with a torn labrum.

I agree that GSP should move down to Welterweight but he said in the past that he didn't want to move up and fight Anderson Silva, when Silva was on his undefeated UFC streak, is because it would cause him problems if he moved back down in weight and cited Roy Jones Jr. as an example of what he was talking about. If GSP does move down, I'd like to see Gastelum vs Whitaker.
Did anybody read about Conor getting into a bar scuffle?
|
This was a perfect storm of a very beatable fighter at middle weight holding the title, to further cement his legacy. I think Whitaker is scary as hell with his size youth and power. He would have a much better chance at WW and there is tons of exciting fights for him there. Including the ultimate cash fight of McGreggor going up weight to fight him. He defended his title forever against all comers at this stage if he just wants to take big money fights, all the power to him.
|
I still want to see GSP fight Silva, even with Silva's PED usage history, lol.
|
|
Yes, he is trying to be a dick to piss off the other guy he's fighting. He doesn't actually care what age he is, why would it make a difference in fighting?
|
Francis Ngannou has the world record for having the hardest punch but the previous record holder is a MMA light heavyweight, lol.
|
i think its the hardest punch out of all fighters that have gone to that UFC Performance Center and been tested. Not all fighters have had their punching power tested which is why a light heavyweight held the "record".
|
Fucking ay what a fight that was.Yancy Medeiros vs Alex Oliveira might just be fight of the year. Loving this card so far.
|
I just came here to say the same thing. What a war!
|
and that fight might not win fight of the night, holy hell does gaethje = exciting fights
