But like you said he has to stay on the field to have it make sense. Edit: which brings up, damn how much is Gronk gonna get? The option that was picked up for gronk is 8 and 9 million base for 2018 and 2019. After bonuses blah blah the cap hit is 11 and 12 million. Pats got a really friendly deal because of durability issues. In 2020 he'll be 30 so I dunno if he'll ever get a mega contract. Curious to see the structure of the contract and how much is guaranteed after the first 2 years for Reed

"At least a half-dozen top NFL health officials waged an improper, behind-the-scenes campaign last year to influence a major U.S. government research study on football and brain disease, congressional investigators have concluded in a new report. The 91-page report describes how the NFL pressured the National Institutes of Health to strip the $16 million project from a prominent Boston University researcher and tried to redirect the money to members of the league's committee on brain injuries. The study was to have been funded out of a $30 million "unrestricted gift" the NFL gave the NIH in 2012..."

Its hilarious listening to these ESPN suits try to rationalize why a 15 year old should be playing American football when they can easily play baseball or basketball and incur far less severe injuries and very little head trauma relative to football.

IMO the CTE stuff is a non-troversy because most of the NFL and even NCAA football players used football to get to a place they couldn't possibly have reached otherwise. How many NFL players would ever make even $100k/year outside of football? 1%? 2%? How many NCAA players would have gotten into their college based on academic merit alone? 5%? Its no different than coal mining, fishing, or being a garbage man. You are accepting danger and a nasty working environment for a salary significantly higher than you would otherwise would have had. And football players knew this was the bargain in the 70s, and if they say otherwise they are stupid, or a liar.
