It was kind of appalling how nobody expected them to do anything this year after winning the Super Bowl. I don't necessarily think Siemian is the future, but the defense must appreciate being bailed out once in a while instead of the other way around. Did they lose a lot on defense? I think part of it is that it is hard to win the way they did last year. Teams just can't rely on their defense scoring more than their offense game after game. Of course, it is easy to be an upgrade over what Peyton was last year.

We lost Danny Trevathan and Malik Jackson to free agency. Definitely star players, but one underrated aspect of the defense from last year was how deep it was. Shane Ray is a perfect example of that, since he got 3 sacks this week against Cincinnati. It's just puzzling to me how everybody seemed to think the loss of those two players and Peyton Manning's brain (certainly not his body) would result in Oakland winning the AFC West. If this were any other team, people would be talking about how they are the best in the league until they actually get knocked off by somebody, and that hasn't happened in three games against two good playoff teams.

I keep hearing how long coaches and their assistants work. I don't understand what they are doing in the office for very long hours. Most NFL coaches just sound so unintelligent. They're just going through the motions regurgitating conventional stuff. Seeing the Patriots' gameplan with Brisset showed a huge creativity difference between them and the Texans. You don't need to work 12+ hours in the office to decide to run your rb straight into the line, right? The Patriots had a good gameplan tailored to a limited passer. Most teams in that situation just run a very vanilla offense that has no chance of scoring. Feels like most coaches don't use their brains at all.
