Those Lakers and Celtics team benefited from ridiculously high draft picks while being good already. The NBA is at its best when parity sucks and there are clearly only a handful of teams at the top. None of the fans under 35 would have seen those Celtics vs Lakers finals, so that's part of the reason it's gotten passed out of memory a bit. Though the thing people forget isn't that the MJ Bulls were unopposed, but actually quite the opposite. Which is what made the Playoffs then so good, as there was a huge boom of talent that really isn't too comparable to even today.

Nba isn't great parity wise but it's certainly better than it was 10 years ago from quality of games perspective. I just hope Houston doesn't win or teams will replicate that gimmicky style of play.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19473922/san-antonio-spurs-exploring-free-agent-run-clippers-star-chris-paul TL;DR no cap space and they'll have to get rid of 1 or 2 big salaries.

i got tickets in the 1st round of the 2007 playoffs for less than $100. ~15th row behind the basket..ahhh those were the days. same tickets went for over $600 in 2016 in the 1st round. so much for going to playoff games

During the 90s, other than MJ and Hakeem, I was mostly watching Pacers/Knicks and Knicks/Heat just hoping that a brawl breaks out. The basketball was truly atrocious. Scoring went down so much that the NBA experimented with a shortened 3-pt line for a few seasons. Almost every team was looking for the next Jordan and running an isolation based offense based on one guy. The one scorer + four thugs roster culminated in the Iverson 76ers reaching the finals. I have a soft spot for Mike Dantoni for saving basketball. The coaches that have won championships recently copied a lot from his offense.
