Anyway the optics are really bad for Sagan because The Sun and stuff will run the elbow photo and flame him for sure
Really sucks that Cavendish has to quit due to injuries now though

Some point and +time punishment is fine for intent but should be applied to Demare aswell who almost took Bouhanni down. DQ is harsh. Can Sagan appeal? I believe no. There is a possible appeal through the court of arbitration for sports, but the current ruling stands until the court reaches a conclusion. Since the proceedings cannot take place before the next stage starts, the decision made by the organiser is in fact final for the Tour 2017.

Meh, the more videos I see the more I think Sagan didn't do anything wrong.

There also goes 20%+ of the TdF revenue. Really disappointed though, losing his 5x green jersey win streak due to this... he specifically said he won't get bored of winning the green jersey for this year and next year, and that's because after that he beats the record. For almost his whole career he's had his eyes set on that record, and it's why he's made the Tour the center stage of his career every year. Anyway, enjoy the race (but don't actually).

I think he will still be motivated to do it, seeing as there would definitely be an "asterisk" by this missed year. But yes, it was a bad call by the rules committee at the time, and a far worse call now that it's been analyzed to death. Someone said it really well, mentioning that the rules committee's rarely ever have former riders in them. Having a sprinter and climber in the committee would likely make a huge difference in the decisions of bad rulings, as they understand the mindset and situation so much better than someone who has never raced a bike in their life. I will admit I don't understand the "this is it for watching the tour" mindset. It's not like you're going to punish ASO by not watching, and by far the most interesting part of the tour is the GC battle, which has a ton of action left in it.

He was quickly dropped today and did nothing to make me think he is a podium contender let alone a realistic contender for yellow, worse than that sounds like you didn't even have him pegged to finish in the top 10-15 riders. On July 06 2017 00:11 HolydaKing wrote: Disappointed by Quintanas performance, but nice stage finish with a strong Aru. Aru was very impressive today. They struck after him a bit too late, but I think he might just have established himself as a serious contender for this thing. Quintana didn't have much. I guess I'm not too surprised since he is coming off the Giro; but his TT performance gave me hope he might be ready to play with Froome/Porte. Unless today was just a really bad legs day, Quintana's not going to be a player coming off the Giro...which quite frankly is almost impossible to do. Martin looked really good as well. We know he can do punchy finishes, but this was not really a punchy finish, and on top of that he was very active even before the finish. Not to mention the finish came after 6kms of solid climbing at 9% or so. That kick will serve him will on several of the other stages and if this is an indicator of his climbing form Martin is a definite podium threat and possible challenger for yellow. Porte and Froome looked solid, just keeping themselves established as favorites. I wonder if G dropping off was intentional, or if he was actually gassed.

Dont know if that was the case or not this time but those images look way too close. On another note, regarding Quintana's form this Tour. One could have made a case for him being a contender seeing his Giro performance (and yes, when dumoulin beats Quintana in MTF his performance/condition cannot be anything than poor). But after that last stage it seems he was not in a "bad" condition at the giro to improve a lot once the Tour hit...maybe that was his best at the giro and the Tour will go even worse...not sure if it was bad planning or something but he doesnt seem like the best pure climber out there like in previous years. Edit: Btw just joined the league. Completely forgot to join when it started ;-)

Yea, great ride from Calmejane. Savage attacking and an aggressive run to the line. Tomorrow the real fun begins. It's a brutal stage, 7 major climbs, 3 of them HC, two of them, including the final one (10km at 10%) have long sections above 10%. If your legs aren't good tomorrow it's light's out. It's almost one of those stages that's "too hard", but I think with how early it is and how steep it is there will still be attacks on Mont du Chat. After tomorrow we should have a pretty damn good picture who this tour is really about.

Or (it's a feeling I had with early mountain stages every now and then) Sky is barely exhausted yet and nobody has the guts to attack against Froome+5 until Froome himself checks who's a threat at the last climb. Could just be a stage with a fast breakaway that makes somebody win the best climber of the tour. (yeah I'm pessimistic when it comes to gc-fights).
