Possible group of death? -Germany -Spain -Senegal -Japan/Serbia Or maybe: -Brasil -Spain -Denmark -Japan/serbia Can’t have serbia in 4th spot there, only 2 euro countries per group allowed. The pots seem quite decent this time around, i don’t think there will be crazy groups of death this time around. Brazil, Spain, Denmark, Japan is the strongest possibility, I think, but even then there are 2 clear favorites. I think teams from pots 1&2 are nearly always favorites vs pots 3&4, something that wasn’t always the case in the past (are fifa rankings improving?). Bookies only have Peru outside top16 to win it. There could be some really weak groups though: Russia, Peru, Iran, Panama is probably one of the weakest.

Wouldn't FIFA shut that down pronto? Also, who cares? Who exactly is interested in "the best of the rest"? Even if Netherlands is in the latter cup, I'll still be more interested in the actual world cup. It was our failure to qualify and a losers cup has even less appeal than the match for 3rd place: at least if you win that you're 3rd. If you win the loser's cup you're what? 33rd? :'D

There are matches for bronze in other sports too and I never saw them labeled as useless. Also SF finish is not celebrated as much as 3rd place finish. Why is 3rd place meaningless in football?

I dunno. Unlike the olympics, nobody ever counts second or third places for football world cups. You're either the winner, or one of the losers. Why is it like that? I don't know. It just is. Same for other football tournaments. Hell, CL doesn't even have a match to decide third place (nor do national cups).

Jorge Mendes is the frontrunner to sign Dele Alli to his agency Gestifute, Sky Sports News understands. So...good old Mendes aka Mourinho's bff. Wonder what that will do!

There could be some really weak groups though: Russia, Peru, Iran, Panama is probably one of the weakest. The world rankings are far from perfect, but until this world cup, the pots only had eight seeded teams (based on world rankings in the recent editions), with the remaining 3 pots only based on geography. I the apparent improvement is due to the rather sensible decision to make more use of the rankings, and not necessarily a sign of the rankings itself improving.
