Replacing a player of that calibre is whole another thing of course. It doesnt hurt but it doesnt help much either, its a very expensive league win inusrance policy at best. They would have got him in the summer anyway. Liverpool decided they wanted a slightly sweeter deal then guarantee themselves a top 4 + a decent run in other tournaments. I can understand the players urgency to move as irrational as it sounds it cant be helped. But thats where sense from management teams comes into play and it was all missing. I see the other view aswell off making the player feeling really wanted etc etc. But I find that thought process extrelemy dumb. Sports wise it makes no sense, but for marketing? I think Barça was trying to sign a big Brazilian player to replace Neymar just for that reason. Brazil + Nike, marketing move. Actually, even if they signed him in summer, it wouldn't make that much sense. Is he supposed to replace Iniesta? Because he's not the same kind of player. Is he supposed to be one of the 3 in front? Then why buy Dembélé? And we won't know for a while, Valverde cannot bench him at that price, but cannot put him in his big night team since he can't play CL. Awesome. i think dembele was a super panic buy after they couldnt get coutinho
Yeah Dembele was just a the "Coutinho" thing didnt go through, we cant do nothing buy. Granted they would definately have used him if he wasnt hurt and I personally think hes good enough to play.
And to Wankers point, He can replace Iniesta. You dont need the same kind of player as Iniesta to plug the midfield. You just need a quality player. There isnt much replacing an Iniesta.

hmm in relation to why Liverpool let Coutinho leave at this time of the season rather than waiting until summer, I think that might be a good idea considering they haven't been doing particularly well with him on the first line up anyway, no doubt he lost his motivation when the Barca deal didn't go through 4 months ago. So even though he's a quality player but i sincerely doubt his contribution would have made Liverpool's position by the end of this season be much different to what it will be regardless. Also 150m quid in the bank is always a good thing to have, actually it's more like 75m since they've spent half on a CB.

Arsenal could be quite formiddable in Europe League now. As far as I can tell, their biggest goal is probably securing the UCL for next season and the Europe League might be the easier of the two paths. Atletico and Dortmund are there too, but they're probably comfortably qualifying through domestic leagues.

Their problem is though Wenger doesn't do "play not to lose" football to succeed in the Europa League. Quality wise they're up there with the top of that league but I won't be surprised if Arsenal gets knock out off the tournament by a random tier 2 european team. I'd think they have a better chance a securing a top 4. Don't get me wrong it's not easy, but i think they'll fare better domestically.

Celta is so irregular, haha. They lose against small teams and then they draw in the same week against both Barça and Madrid xDD

Barca draw wasn't as good though due to it being a Barca without any of the big 3 upfront and lots of rotation. Real one was ofc better.
I laughed when Zidane said after he is happy with his squad and don't need any more players??? What the hell lol

They have a very good peak level tbh.

I actually had a small bet going on Celta winning that one. With the firepower they've got on a good day, it seemed like a very potential upset.

They really need to rebuild soon enough though.

What the hell lol It's kinda funny though because quality wise he actually does have a top 3 in the world for each position (most of anyway) ... he just needs to shake this lack of motivation out of them and they're back to a winning machine they used to be ... or maybe it's just easier to replace all the cores ... iono ... :D

just noticed this ... lmao it's too funny to be ignored tho

He doesnt need more players. He needs the ones he has to play better, because we have seen them play better.

This = a problem with manager imo.

Yeah like Nayumi said, it like Bayern syndrome, cba to turn up in La Liga ? :s But that is a manager problem now right, they always say after you win things you need to still sign more players to stay at the top and get players in who want to win things.

Has anyone seen Thomas Lemar play? He's being talked about as potential Coutinho replacement and on paper he seems to have very similar characteristics. Never really watched Monaco play apart from the few UCL runs they've had though, so I've got no clue how he actually looks on the pitch.
|
He's more of a winger in a 4-4-2 system. Great with the ball, pace, nice crosses. But not exactly a playmaker like Coutinho.
About Madrid it's definitely for Zidane to make changes, but it requires replacing players that have won everything. If he made the wrong choices he would have been criticized a lot more than now. I remember Guardiola wanted to kick Piqué, Cesc and Alves in his last year, but the direction didn't want. The team had won a CL the year before, but he knew he needed fresh blood.

That Arsenal wall is brilliant.

What do Chelsea fans think of the hostility between Conte and Mourinho? And yeah its really hostility and not just banter anymore.
|
Conte got this godfather attitude which i find quite amusing.

|
That's quite surprising haha.
