The game itself is basically finished, the reaosn they haven't made it official as a "retail" game is because they want all the little touches in first.

I actually like most of the Protoss new units, I think they (seem) fairly well thought out and balanced. The problem is the T and Z units simply seem far far stronger :/

If you are short on players, some of the SEA players are smashing HotS if that is of any interest (watched deth beat Thorzain last night!) Good to see you both back in full swing - hope this is a sign of things for the future!

Definitely exciting! I was asking last week about who would hold first HotS tourney, so i'm glad the announcement came so quick. Just speculating, because the prize pool is a fair amount, doesn't it give some players the incentive to just stick to tried and true WoL builds in some/potentially many of the games to win? I'm sure the players understand and respect that it is a HotS tourney and play it like one, but that possibility does exist no? Also any rules regarding disabling autosplit/automine at the start of the game or any of the other new options?

Especially anything that relies upon early aggression against toss or heavy econ against terran with the new mothership core and the popularity of warhound rushes.

I think it's universally agreed that Bo7's can get a little boring, especially when someone has a massive advantage. And the nice small map pool and map veto, though I wish we had better maps to choose from.

But at least he can claim to have it announced first and he has an even bigger pricepool. Regardless, this will be lots of fun, looking forward to the remaining two players. I hope they will be some true powerhouses, that is the one thing that still lacks the tournament!

In the middle of the week starting it that late just ... doesn't get many viewers. I'm actually quite interested in watching a HOTS tournament with these high tier players, but I'd need to stay up until like... 8am or so to finish watching all the games, maybe. Even East Coasters, fellow Americans, likely won't be able to watch all of this due to it being on tuesday. I really don't see how it couldn't have been earlier... Seems like the worst possible timeslot for a tournament based in America.

The problem is the T and Z units simply seem far far stronger :/ Don't forget the old units as well. Hydras, Ravens, Battlecruisers, Ultralisks, Reapers have been buffed considerably. Protoss' old units didn't get any buffs. Ah.. screw it, I'll be watching this tourney anyway even if protoss has no chance.

That said I don't think they are viable against a decently balanced composition. Maybe making just 3 to harrass, but making more makes your army worthless in engagements.

Saying they "hard counter" mass Broodlords is an even sillier statement for a couple reasons; mainly if they have enough money to mass Broodlords and you have enough Tempest to "hard counter" them, then they just remax on Roaches, and insta-win. Again, you would have to have already won to justify making them.

Fuck that, you just want an more a-move friendly army instead of a micro requiring one. That's ridiculous. Lol the point was not to say that I want carriers to replace tempests. The point was to illustrate that a unit that Blizzard thinks has no place (the carrier), would have been infinitely more useful than the tempest in that scenario. I know carriers take longer to build than tempests, but that is just because Blizzard never tried to make them viable them. And even with their current stupidly long build time, having 4 carriers there would have been better than the 9 tempests were. The idea of the Tempest is fine, but the way they designed the unit is stupid, because it is not a capital ship. As I have been saying, a unit that merely annoys an opponent and pokes them is not fit to be a capital ship costing 300/300 and 6 supply. Instead they should shrink down the model and make it a normal stargate unit. Then give toss an actual capital ship.

Also pretty funny that he claimed they were a gimmick in BW. Totally core and viable unit in late game PvT, guess it is a gimmick. Super interesting micro and unique usage in the other matchups. It takes time for units to fill and secure a role. I'm not at all disappointed; I'd rather watch this type of game than having players just massing the new units and attacking and hoping to come out on top. I have to retract my previous statement. Catz is just a cheese. Might as well have invited CombatEX to this tournament.

FOUR, that's not a lot of infested marines and it died in like five seconds. I noticed the oracle costs a wopping 200 gas which is frankly ridiculous. You could almost get 2 DTs for that much gas. Anyway, that's what beta is for I guess but Toss has a loooooooong way to go. GJ for Catz tho that build was SO SICK. I don't remember the numbers, but yes Mothercore is pretty weak, around what a regular gateway unit would have as hp/shields. Theorically it's not supposed to be a combat unit, but the sad and harsh truth is that it is absolutely useless to have sitting in base (energize is a good ability on paper, but it has nearly zero usefulness in practice since it's only really good to recharge oracle's energy, and oracle is rubbish; mass recall is good but even with that you don't really push in early game as protoss because you don't have any option to do it effectively without going all in. Purify is a half decent attack ability but only in desperate situations, any protoss would rather have a couple of stalkers more to help defend, rather than the mothership core). Catz build was good, but when you get a unit that spawns attacking unit for free, and is burrowed, and frankly doesn't cost as much as zergs would make you believe, it's not hard to make it work. Just remember that in game 1 Catz made that unit work after a failed six pool which should economically crush you... (granted, TT1 made a pretty blatant mistake spending money on stargate and especially on immortals, but then again, the only two things that can work against Swarm Hosts are colossi and HTs and good luck getting to that tech and a production in that situation)

Catz techs fairly aggressively and he barely had any in time. It is possible to bypass them with blink/recall. TT1 recalled to the natural, but if he had managed a recall to the main it would be completely different. Also I imagine colossus would fry them. Everyone agrees that P is a bit broken right now so almost any strat atm seems underwhelming, but 2base allin does definitely seem like it can work.

All Round of 8 matches if I recall correctly. But yeah Blizzard dropped the ball with Protoss. The issue to deal with deathball prominence is to give a benefit for Protoss players that can split it up, not to just give units that are forced to be separate from the main army. If splitting your forces gives you better results, good players would adopt it. Considering the amount of strong, strong units the other races have, Protoss still have to deathball up just like in WoL. That said the pros may figure some more streamlined builds and openers at some stage. I'm not confident, but I'm hopeful that something will be in the works

Its abilities are nerfed to the ground at the minute, as Kim said I think because it was made to feel'more of a unit'. They had to tone its defensive cannon down because it was used in big all-ins in close air positions and the likes.

Destiny and White-Ra, both players who like to experiment and think outside the box. Catz and TT1, team-mates and friends who are a lot of fun and will always show good games. Illusion and Suppy, both young up-coming players (More the latter for Suppy I guess). Although, as you guys noted very early on you put too much cash on the line, it goes without saying that players are just going to stick to what they know instead of using Hots units. It's unfortunate that your timezone is 8 hours behind the UK where I am though, I ended up falling asleep before the Demus game which I was really looking forward to, props to White-Ra for staying up so late to play the guy sounded drained! Good luck for day 2, I'll definitely be watching!

Robo units are OK, but none of them crush that composition. He really should got some Archons or more sentries. Maybe more Immortals instead of more collossi could be good too.

It's actually quite funny how many terrans will never have turrets in their base once they know you go infestors. Burrowed infestors are just as dangerous as a flock of mutas.

Third game somewhat fun because of a couple nukes. Everything else, same old same old. Blizzard needs to fix their ugly artificial pathing (among several other things but that would be a big start). Starbow has completely spoiled me, I can't enjoy regular SC2 anymore.

Starbow has completely spoiled me, I can't enjoy regular SC2 anymore. I've seen that a lot in his PvT games that got uploaded to Youtube. It seems you have to chip away at Terrans all over the place, throw your ball at them and have enough bank to throw another ball at them if necessary. Kind of cool games though here

and we have seen alot of use from the useful units. Viper missing, but swarmhost infestor style blocks the viper a bit costwise. Why get an oracle if you can get a speed prism for harass (which unlocks robo tech fully) and well widowmine is owned by its 2 supply cost. Battle hellions really deal with light melee units way to effective though x3. grats illusion. I like the swarmhost even more now, makes the zerg feel the pain when your siege units are grabbed unsieged lol.
