As you should all know, HotS is going live on the 12th of March. Within 24 hours of HotS going live we will be closing this temporary forum in favor of the discussion continuing in the Starcraft 2 General, Strategy and Tourneys forums. We will be creating a new single player forum once HotS is released to discuss the single player side of HotS. 'Closing' this forum will mean that the forum is unlisted on TeamLiquid and all topics locked. Discussion will not be able to occur in any threads in this forum once it is closed.
We appreciate that there is a desire for people to continue some threads post-release. It is unfeasible for us to sort all the threads from this forum and then move them to their correct destination. As such, we will only be moving threads that are requested to be preserved by the community.
You can request a thread to be preserved by doing the following:
- Find all the threads you wish have preserved post-release
- Copy the url of the thread e.g. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=275302
- PM the list of thread URLs to Plexa with the subject of the PM saying "HotS Thread" or something along those lines
- DO NOT just send me the title of the thread, I will not search for it and it will not be moved. No URL, no move.
We will move the requested threads over on the day of HotS release before the forum is closed.
Thanks for your cooperation. TL.net Staff

Can you also tell us why?

This forum used to be the WoL singleplayer forum. I suppose it will be converted to HOTS singleplayer forum instead of HOTS beta forum.

I wondered what would happen, I actually thought that you would repurpose this subforum as a 'Campaign' forum for SC2 instead. This does bring up the question, what happens to all the Wings Campaign threads? Are they still in here and will they be locked as well?
Edit: a quick look does show that they are indeed in this subforum yes.

I assume that threads created before the opening of the HotS Beta subforum are obvious candidates for being preserved.

Will there be a wings section for those who like the flavor of vanilla?

What if to save you work, users were to come up with list of WoL Single Player threads that they thought could be good candidates to be preserved in its own subforum?
I assume that you're automating this process somehow. If that is the case, and the interested parties send you a PM with a list of WoL Campaign threads with an appropriately named Subject, would you consider moving them out of the locked sub-forum?
|
Does this keep us from making new threads that are hots related in the WOL-general? Or should they be blogs now?

No, this means the opposite - ALL threads in SC2 General will be HotS-only. WoL threads go nowhere; perhaps to blogs (except for single player discussion probably).

I don't understand why this forum can't be just the campaign forum for both WoL and HotS. There will be new players who didn't play WoL yet, where can they post their questions?

Yes that's fine.

I suppose there will be some hang-over WoL discussion, but we expect that to have more or less dropped away after a few months. There are no major tournaments remaining for WoL and we expect that the community discussion will reflect what is happening in the tournament scene.

We cannot move them all out because there is no way to sort through them other than manually (which is time consuming and not time well spent). Any WoL single players threads that people wish to have preserved will be moved over to the new single player forum.
We will put up a site-wide announcement directing people towards this thread to minimise any possible unintentional lost threads.

Even though this thread is filled with non-campaign threads, that doesn't should matter too much because most of the threads in this forum will be abandoned anyway because HotS will be out very soon. There will be a lot of new threads to the old non-campaign threads will not be very visible anymore.
|
So if the 2 SC2 categories are being combined will they have to be tagged with like [HotS] or [WoL] somehow if theyre only pertinent to one of the 2?

We expect that such situations will decrease in frequency quite rapidly after HotS release. Tag WoL, but HotS is the default.

I still think this is not very newbie-friendly. A newbie could find many answers about the Wol campaign in this forum from old threads, but they will be much harder to find because they are not longer in a regular forum. When he wants to create a thread about the Wol campaign, he could be confused to find only a Hots campaign forum.

It will still be called the single player forum and their are comprehensive guides to every level in WoL on Liquipedia.

Just got an email from newegg saying HOTS has shipped (weird, it will probably in 2 days). So excited. It's about time!

All Existor threads except the datamining one should be kept. they are all high standard and very useful

Lol GL plexa, you're going to have a lot of work !

I do not understand why any threads ever need to be deleted at all. At least keep this forum without a link to it in the menu on the left but visible at the bottom of the forum index as "(Archived) SC2 HotS Beta" or something. I think deleting something completely is always a terrible thing and there is simply no need for it. It really shouldn't take too much webspace to keep a backup of this in some place where people don't really see it unless they want to. I have already been in the situation many times in the past that I wanted to look up something old on the internet and it was simply gone because they just deleted it, although it would have caused no harm to archive it somewhere.
Edit: closing the threads would be fine of course

Nothing is being deleted, just being made unlisted.

Seeing the TL site get re arranged gets me excited for a new era of Stacraft 2!

Won't miss the thousand "I'm a wannabe game designer" threads. Can't wait for an actual strategy forum for HotS.
I don't think there's much that deserves to be saved. The thread on ZvP mech, or Tang's roach/ling (although not his best) come to mind.

So do I understand correctly that there will be no separate strategy fora for HotS and WoL? Is it really not possible to have a separate section for HoTS, because now the search function is going to be absolutely useless, especially when LotV comes, and then there are strategy topics on 3(!!) games in one folder. The forum (should be treated as) could be seen as a database, and this won't really help it - I regularly use the search function to find something in the strategy section, but this'll be completely useless then. Just put all WoL stuff in a root folder, is that really so hard?

Who on earth is going to be making wol strategy guides now, or especially after LotV? Anyone good enough to write a strategy guide will be playing the release version of the game.

Well yeah, but if I search for 'immortal sentry all-in', I'll probably get 100s of hits from WoL, which are irrelevant now. You're corrupting intentionally your own databases, and not encouraging users to use the search, because the search will give a bunch of unrelated results.
Really, just put the WoL strategy forum in some searchable archive, and start all over with HotS etc.

The strategy forum naturally gets out of date as the metagame develops and patches are released, this is nothing new.
