Kudos for having a girl or else you wouldn't be getting this much attention, but too bad it will take her 1-2 years to build up the knowledge and experience to commentate at any useful capacity.
Are you seriously saying this? These people (all the casters) do this out of their own damn time. With their own damn money, and the ONLY thing they get back, is the "thank you we love you KKstarcraft keep up the good work!". And then we have pricks like you that go on say shit like this.
"Kudos for being a girl otherwise you won't get this much attention?" How old are you? GTFO

Skimpy clothing? Wow, you guys must not live around any young people at all. I'm on a college campus far far away from any beaches and I'm no longer surprised if I see women walking around in a bikini in the summer. I'm sorry, but a little cleavage is not "skimpy clothing".
Yes, she will most likely attract people because she is female. That is the nature of internet/video games being predominantly filled with younger males. However, this isn't even limited to the internet, how many companies hire young women as secretaries/waitresses/etc? A lot of working with people jobs are filled with younger women, its part of society, its part of our sexuality, etc. It's not going to change and while you might call it cheap, it's really nothing new.
However, I do have to say that the quality of the commentary is severely lacking. I watched a vid and skimmed through a few others, and I have to say you guys have two problems:
- Filler talk. @stalker harass video "This is a really good situation for the protoss because it forces the terran to react to what you are doing to him." - says nothing at all. "Leaves his wall open, so, um, basically anything can happen" - no it doesn't. He can shut off the wall at any time, and "anything can happen" is filler language. "Terran is figuring out what he should do next. Whether he should change his build order, send in his marines [etc]" - again, that's not really what's going on. All the terran is going to do is have a little back and forth until a marauder comes out.
- Target audience. The people that will learn from stalker harass and hellion harass will have far more problems actually getting these stalkers/hellions out than using them effectively. Good players, of course, know these things because they aren't something very advanced, but bad players really need to get their builds down before starting to do anything like that. I suggest giving more insight into how to actually do a fast hellion harass or a fast stalker build instead of just talking about it. This will also help you fill more time in your vids.
Other than that, keep up! I haven't seen a single girl be good at SC2 (and I know quite a lot online from WoW and a few other games), so if you can prove that you're good at the game, you'll officially be the first one I've seen.

Props to you both for forwarding the sc community! Keep up the good work and try to stay consistant

seriously that is very normal looking clothing. haters gunna hate the commentary needs tons of work, but its a start

Hmm, I skipped through a video and didn't hear the girl speak once.

I think you guys have potential, but you really should have learned more about the game first before casting. It seems like you say a lot of out of place or just plain random stuff. I'm sure you'll be good in time, but as of right now the commentary needs serious improvement.

Keep up ur good work. I dunno how much u read from this but i hope it helps!
Husky and HD really got a lot of attention from my friends and me when they casted Korean games. Im korean living in canada so i have my sources but for a lot of people here, it is really exotic. The girl doesnt look like shes a korean but I cant tell about her male counterpart. If either of u, or any of ur friends are korean, get korean replays. Ygosu and PlayXP are really nice.
I think day 9 is very appearing to almost anyone because He is a fanatic fan himself. He gets as excited as we do about all the big players, even though he is a very well known player himself. Korean commentators do this too. Cant go wrong with respecting big names
And in the beginning can u give us background on the players? We all know who Sen and WhiteRa are but not all of us know his recent records, rankings and possible momentum he may be riding on when the game was played.
I started following esport when the "emperor" boxer won his first big tournament in 2000. I notice every now and then that even commentators don't know all the players from all teams, past and present. But at least i think you should know all sc2 players and their background to some depth.
Keep up ur good work!

like that casual/pro-style .. you added.
so i watches some videos, and if you want more viewers, you realy should buy a better mic - or speak louder. its hard to understand everything you say - so as a viewer i cant relax and watch the video - because i always have to struggle to understand what you say.

I just skimmed over this thread, but I have few comments which you might be able to take on board to help improve.
I watched a couple of your early commentaries as I saw a thread posted on the Blizzard forums. I thought they seemed awkward, unrehearsed and maybe forced - there wasn't really any synergy between the two of you. You seemed very slow at telling me the information which was already obvious to me as I could see what was happening on the screen. Try to focus on the non-obvious. There's a really bad F1 commentator in the UK. He used to be in radio but now he's on TV; he usually ends up simply describing what's happening.
Totally agree with the post above regarding "aiming the camera at yourself". HD tried doing some "pregame shows" where he pointed the camera at himself and tried to hype up the forthcoming commentaries. They pretty much sucked, you might want to check the comments on those YouTube videos.
On the positive side though, your latest videos (again, I have only watched a couple) seem VASTLY improved from your earliest ones. I'm sure if you keep it up you'll eventually be up there with HD and Husky.
P.S. I suggest getting a monitor-mounted webcam with a built in microphone, they seem to have the best audio quality within a reasonable price range. I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 and the microphone is awesome.

As brutal as it is, thats life and thats an opinion. I am not saying I agree with what was said but things can't be all happy go lucky all the time and if someone is doing something wrong they'll know it. The only bad thing about commentators with bad info on this game is that it spreads to the viewers.

Do you guys do dual commentaries? All the vids Ive seen (15+) have one person commentating on their own. I thought u guys were a commentating duo (as in u would commentate together)?? U just seem like 2 separate commentators who just occasionally make vids together explaining generic stuff with facetime.
Can u guys please commentate together more often? I feel slightly misled atm.

Oh man, some serious laughs in this thread, thx TL.
@ Krytos
You got a good voice, and flow, seems a good mix between Huskys energy and HDs crisp commentary. I was going to ask about the Duo commentating, but I dont think Kitty has a deep enough understanding of the game to be worthwhile listening to for any level of play.
@ Kitty
I think basic starcraft #5 is case in point. I don't see how this video is useful for noobs, as you clearly had no idea why terran was doing what was being done, and letting me know the stalker is "shooting as the supply depot" while the marines "try to shoot at it" is not useful commentary. Commentating is not where you should be learning the game you're commentating on.. This video clearly illustrates this.
Commentators gain respect for having the ability to convey ideas and information clearly, efficiently, and accurately. As it sits I really feel you need to deepen your knowledge of the game and the mechanics before your videos will be truly useful to newer players. The blind cannot teach the deaf to see.
Hope you can improve though, best of luck.

bump for new content in the OP. we are doing some interviews with pros.

bump. added interview with machine.

Decent commentary, my only gripe is when you(krytos) put an almost theatrical amount of emphasis on certain type of words or actions. Best example I can give is the way that you introduce the two opponents at the beginning of the game. You make it almost seem like you're going for the movie trailer type guy voice and it's just really way over the top for my tastes.
But honestly, that's about it for now. Keep up the good work. Practice makes perfect.

Although I definitely agree game knowledge is the most important part about commentating, some people are looking more for the enthusiasm and the enjoyment in it. Specifically bronze players.
The only way to become a good commentator in my opinion is be good at what you are commentating at.
I've always found this really interesting... A lot of people say this. in it seems videogames are the only sport where this is the case. I mean no expects the ESPN dudes to be good at anything. and hell most sport reporters don't know shit and yet they are out there....
Is it because that the majority of the public are not experts? and therefore the audence is more receptive when it comes to baseball etc? As a huge soccer fan I've just gotten used to being able to correct the local analyists, just the way it is.
I'm not sure if this comes from a sort of elitism that is naturally found at the top level of video games? I'm not sure.
One thing is for sure I've listen to some great sc players that are horrible commentators. It's a completely different skillset, plus just having been born with an interesting voice. Obviously indepth knowledge of the game is a bonus, but if you limit yourself to top level players as commentators you're left with... I don't know... 5 people? if that that are actually any good in english.
the videogame world is a tough if you're not the on of the 'best' and also a guy. The doublestandards around are epic.
