This is what, the third time in a row this has happened at MLG? I mean, this was a pretty big bracket error in the first two...is this ridiculous or am I overreacting?
Update: both players facing each other in Winners Round 3 on day 2.
Update 2: Machine beats iNControL and SeleCT 2:0, looks like he took all points out of LCK and into STR when he made his character.
|
LOL he really is unlucky.

We'll see who he runs into in the losers bracket.

Maybe 3rd time's the charm for Machine!

It's a shame, I'm a big EG fan and Machine is honestly such a strong player.

That also means Incontrol knows how Machine plays though and Machine has more nerve issues than Incontrol. Besides either way it's EG playing EG which sucks for them whoever wins.

I do feel bad that machine has to play incontrol again, but it's not like it's the 1st round like Raleigh. this time it's the "3rd" round in the winners bracket, even though 1st round was mostly byes. Even if they were placed farther apart, they will have to play each other if they keep winning.

True, but my point was merely that incontrol isnt the most dangerous player to be playing in that round. It should be a good match.
|
On a separate note, if iNControL beats Machine, he will most likely face SeleCT. This is pretty hilarious, because Geoff drew some net-hate for "criticizing" SeleCT's playstyle on SOTG.
Of course, as far as I know, neither player has any problems with each other...but here on the internet, we like to blow things out of proportion.

I hope select does the same TvP build as the last MLG :D

This isn't "bad" luck. In the past MLG's he's played a player he knows in the first round (Incontrol then Ret). This one is third round so its not that bad.

Like someone earlier said, to get first place you need to be the best. It doesn't matter if he faced IdrA first round.
Machine's lack of good performances at the past few MLGs haven't been because he's faced "hard" opponents early on, it's because he just under preforms at these events.

Read past the picture.
Machine has played Incontrol at every MLG event.
|
Haha, oh man. I look forward to iNcontrol vs SeleCT. That's more interesting than Machine facing his teammate 3 times in a row
|
Its a bit shady, but they're on the same team...
iNcontrol could have thrown a game to advance Machine and get him some points, so that as a team they'd fare better in future / both be seeded and this wouldn't happen.
|
On November 06 2010 14:54 n0xi3 wrote: i mean they were both seeded... not much you can do where they end up really...
Machine had 0 points and was unseeded.
I posted this in the other thread, but the reason iNcontroL has defeated machine both other MLG's is because geoff is willing to use the strategy that is less practiced but wins. He doesn't cannon rush or cnanon in machine during CG's, but machine wants to play the macro game, so he just 14 pooled 16 hatched every game and geoff took advantage of that.
Flash cheeses when he needs to cheese, doesn't matter the series, he knows he can win the macro game but he also knows how to win the game period. Machine needs to change something up to put incontrol off balance just like geoff did to machine at raleigh and DC.
Whether thats a 6 pool or wahtever, doesn't really matter, but something hast to change. Maybe machine can do that 9 pool 9 gas 9 roach warren build that geoff talked about, but machine can't play standard every time and expect geoff not to take advantage of that.
|

I'd just 6 pool in frustration.

Yeah,
No offense to Incontrol, but as silly as it seems Machine is lucky to get him instead of stronger players like Huk/qxc/Sen/Idra/Fenix.

It's just coincidence that he has to face him x amount of times.
Eventually he has to beat him in MLG if he wants to cash in.

Not that unlucky but more coincidental. Honestly if he can't beat incontrol 3rd round (which is far in a tournament with so many good players) then I don't understand why people think he deserves to place better.
|
i lol'd so hard when i opened the brackets and saw they were going to play again. hahahaha that sucks
|
It's unlucky for EG that they always seem to be eliminating eachother or kicking eachother to LB but getting Inc round 3 in WB is one of the easier draws tbh
|
Its part of competitive sport to ocasionally get some "heavyweight" contenders on your way on the early stages. Im sure machine is up to the challenge and he'll just deal with it, so not much relevance taken out of this subject imo.
|
Ok I can understand 2 times in a row, but 3 times? As conspiracy friendly I am, I actually feel like MLG is setting this up to have like a cool "story" through the tournies and to add some drama and attention to the early stages.
Its stupid regardless though, they should randomize the bracket not only seeds vs no seeds but different teams vs dif teams, so that teammates doesn't have to play eachother this early.
|
The problem lies in the fact that Machine as a top player is mediocre. If he isn't even good enough to beat Incontrol, who is mediocre too, he won't get anywhere.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the "unlucky" part of the situation. Machine and incontrol are both unlucky to have to face each other so early in the tournament because they are from the same team. This unlucky does not refer to OMG incontrol is so pro, poor machine is facing him so early. The OP of this thread is actually very misleading.

Really unfortunate for both of these players. It's true that machine hasn't racked up any seeding points but it is still luck of the draw that he faces his teammate for the 3rd time in 3 mlg's. Hopefully whoever loses performs well in the lower bracket. go EG!!

1st round in raleigh, 2nd round in DC, 3rd (or 4th) round in Dallas so I guess it's not craziest thing in the world but still noteworthy because of the first 2 events imo

Anyone who knows anything about the scene knows exactly what zerotol is talking about. If you think anyone other than IdrA on EG is a top player currently, you're pretty mistaken. They're all really good players, but their performance at MLG and other major events has been pretty mediocre. They even got all killed recently box AHHHBOXAH, who is also very good but not even close to HuK, Select, IdrA.

If you think that everyone outside the top 6 players in NA is "mediocre" or worse, it's time to pull your head out of your ass. Machine might not be great, but he's still very good.
|
Is there really any reason that MLG should separate teammates? I mean, other than obvious and blatant favoritism? I mean, random's the luck of the draw, and since Machine isn't seeded, that means he's all the more likely to face his teammates. So, what's the problem?
I used to play Magic the Gathering, and in the first round of a 1k+ person tournament I matched up with my teammate (3 out of 1083 possible people). Shrug. Them's the breaks.

Machine is also the guy that went tit for tat against WhiteRa in a series of showmatches back in July or so, when WhiteRa was really more on the top of his game. I don't think it's fair to say he's just mediocre (even just as a top player) given that he won the first showmatch against WhiteRa 4-1. And sure, it's random seeds so it's inevitable he'll hit a teammate eventually; nobody is disagreeing with that.
But to draw the same thing randomly three times in a row is simply unlucky. That's the definition of bad luck... random things swinging against you rather than back and forth. I think Machine just gets nervous at LANs, and under performs. I'm hoping he can change that around this time, since I really think he's in the top 3 zergs in NA.

lol. Yeah, attacking when someone just invested in expanding, just started a bunker and has not his depot lifted to block while getting his units surrounded is definitely proving OPness.
It's just called a VERY good timing >_>;;

I am so happy for Machine now, it would have been tragic to see him early eliminated again.

Might need to change the title of thread to " Machine unluckiest player in the world, but still able to overcome the odds that God has put against him"

MAMAMAMA-CHINE FIGHTING! :'D

Yes, let's give an unfair advantage to people who are on top teams in an individual tournament, that makes sense.

Is potentially facing a teammate in the third round of a tournament really that unlucky? There are like 7 EG players in this tourney, and a bunch of Liquid, Root, etc., when it is acceptable for two players on the same team to face each other? Ro8? Ro4? Finals?
If you care about the integrity of this or any other tournament than team affiliations should NEVER influence seeding. Invitational tourneys may be an exception. I am really surprised that so many people seem outraged about teammates facing each other.
Congrats to Machine however for doing so well to this point.

I mean did yuo see how easy it was for Machine to Win? Scouts 1/1/1 banshee, okay, make a bunch of banelings, GG.
All this is because terran is unable to put on early pressure that can diminish the Zerg's opportunities.
Again all this is as far as I can see, I am not provoking QQing but simply analysis.
Remember that select has publicly announced that he didn't have any zerg practice partner leading up to DC just a few weeks ago and that zerg vs terran meta game is very highly developed (since there is no protoss representation in the gsl herp derp). Zergs have figured out how to pick apart terrans and I think a lot of terrans are still used to being ahead in the mid game because of pre 1.12 "abuse" and now that the play field is leveled, a lot of terrans are struggling to figure out how to deal with mid-late game zergs.

Machine is a baller this tournament

EG Machine FTW

I don't think it's fair to say he's just mediocre (even just as a top player) given that he won the first showmatch against WhiteRa 4-1. And sure, it's random seeds so it's inevitable he'll hit a teammate eventually; nobody is disagreeing with that.
But to draw the same thing randomly three times in a row is simply unlucky. That's the definition of bad luck... random things swinging against you rather than back and forth. I think Machine just gets nervous at LANs, and under performs. I'm hoping he can change that around this time, since I really think he's in the top 3 zergs in NA.
+ Show Spoiler +Some person i know can say It's a good skill toi be a top 3 zerg in NA:D

For machine to be confirmed as unlucky he sure is rocking the brackets.
Best of luck to him, hope to see him in the finals. Jinro vs. Machine finals. Calling it.

I think we can all agree that Machine has now been confirmed to be most baller EG player at MLG Dallas. After all the bad luck he's had in the past with MLG he's been a force to be reckoned with so far in Dllas.

lolol he's doing well this time..

A battle of two unlucky players, Jinro not qualifying for GSL twice and Machine not having the best of luck in tournaments. IMO they deserve this, both players have improved a lot since the start of SC2 and I can see both doing well in Korea now.
Still I think Select or Ret will take the tourney, they are the strongest players left.

Seriously he should.
The game is so new atm that you cant definatively rate who is best and who is second best. I really hate how ppl look at a performance in 1 or 2 tournaments and make immediate judgments about how that player compares to everyone else. People were saying that FruitDealer was by far the best zerg but he dropped out of the GSL relatively early and it's clear there are a few Koreans(Zenio, NesTea) are up to his level if not better.
I hope there will start being a "regular season" sort of deal among pros where it isn't a tournament format. That would show, to an extent, who really are the best players.

Idra confirmed to be unluckier

Would you disagree with the following phrasing: EG has been extremely underwhelming in many cases given the expectations of greatness that carried over from sc:bw.
This is just a fancy way of saying that regardless of how well you think they are capable of playing, they have been mediocre.
|
It's too difficult to say who's the best Starcraft 2 player at this point. After seeing what's happening in this tournament, and what has happened in GSL 2, they're all top players. I feel like if any of them come with the right preparation, mindset, and strategies they could potentially do very well. The results have been similar for some players, but clearly there is quite a bit of parody.
This MLG has been the most fun to watch by far, keep sending more great players, it can only serve to evoke a more dynamic tournament. Also, I'm not surprised by Machine, I've watched all of his as of lately and it's clear he's a great player.

LOL I always used to see him do that too. I saw him do it once on the player cam but i think he was just setting a hotkey to 6. He needs to start doing that again and he'll continue doing great things
