Q. So, you will not change your ID? A. OptimusPrime is only given the the greatest Prime member. I didn't win, so I should look for a next opportunity. I'm going to keep using the ID BoxeR for now.
OptimusPrime is only given the the greatest Prime member. I didn't win, so I should look for a next opportunity.
This doesn't even make sense. For one, he's obviously the best Prime member. Why should the best Prime member win GSL to be considered the best Prime? lolwut

He did say that he would be changing his name to Optimus if he won when they originally did the interview. Posts regarding his name change kind of jumped the gun.
Ridiculous that he cant change his name because he didn't win the finals, i would change my name to whatever i wanted it to be if i could make GSL finals...
I would call him FoxeR even if he did change his name. OptimusPrime is hilarious, but I'd rather he had a somewhat more slightly more serious name to fit his awesome talent.
On November 17 2010 08:39 0neder wrote: That's retarded logic. He isn't worthy of OptimusPrime but he's worthy of smurfing the emperor? I dislike him even more now.
You forget that the Emperor himself gave him permission.
He's not "ripping off" the name. It's the same deal as naming yourself "MichealJordan" or any other famous person. BoxeR was FoxeR's inspiration, and he didn't even know BoxeR would move to SC2. He's already resolved this issue with the man himself, and I don't understand why everyone's still whining about it.
I think at the beginning he was okay with Foxer, but then Korean fans dislike that nickname.
Then he decided to use Optimus, which is considered the greatest name on Prime. However he lost the finals, so he thinks he's not worth the name yet.
I think at this rate it will be difficult to follow what the fans want, cause there are few different opinions. He should just think of a new name. Preferably something more Korean, like a weird combination of a noun with an adjectives/verb (like: HopeTorture ).
Btw, I think the name ManofOneWay is pretty cool. Too bad he didn't get to use it. Probably GOM/Blizzard requested him to keep his old name to attract more viewers?
This is the best fucking reason I have ever heard. Can you imagine the implications? This means the strongest Prime member will be granted the title OptimusPrime. Perhaps it will go through multiple users and become a tradition lasting decades.
In Korea don't they just mostly refer to players by their real names anyway? Then again, I guess that doesn't help much either since there seem to be so few Korean surnames!
Maybe he's thinking about changing teams and doesn't want to carry around the ID Optimus for the rest of his career when he probably won't have Prime after it.
Can Boxer recruit Foxer to his new intel sponsored team?
Does anyone outside of teamliquid refer to him as Foxer? It'd be awesome if he'd just take that as his ID, but I imagine Korean fans are not referring to him by that name.
Why would you want to be known as the fake anything? Granted he is one of my favorite players right now on the pro circuit it annoys the crap out of me that he is ok with having a direct copy of his hero's name. At least change you'r name to SOMETHING else, anything, I always saw people who copied professionals ID's on b.net as losers.
P.S. He didn't win the GSL but obviously he got the furthest in the clan so why not Optimus...?
On November 17 2010 09:11 Fa1nT wrote: greatest Prime member. I didn't win,
I would assume the members of Prime played for it, and BoxeR lost, not "didn't win GSL"
He said he would change the name if he won GSL. He didn't. There isn't really any need to imagine that there was another tournament.
Anyway, I am very much enjoying how anal some of the posts in this thread are. If he wants to be a champion before he takes a name of leadership like that, then that's his choice.
Kind of funny that people take this whole name thing more serious than he does, and get into debates of what he should be named. It is not that big of a deal.
I don't see him winning any GSL until he figures out how to play a macro game. I'm sure most players by now will have figured out how to beat him (I've been seeing this foxer style on the ladder and it's been a breeze to beat) and once his all-in style starts to lose momentum, he'll have to learn how to play in the late game better. I don't foresee him winning any GSL any time soon if he keeps playing the same way.
If I were pro, I'd fool around with my ID as much as possible. And @people calling it lame... isn't every ID lame? I mean look at mine... then look at yours. We are (mostly) adults using fun catch-names. So why not let him have a little more fun with his?

Full of yourself much? I'm fairly sure the people you were playing against weren't BoxeR. In my opinion he definitely would have won the GSL if he hadn't been so nervous in the seventh game.

Sure, but what about respect for BoxeR? Doesn't he have to prove that he is LEGEND material first? He doesn't deserve that name any more than the name of a fictional robot leader.
It's kind of funny that people just stalk him so much and make a huge deal about his name. I love the guy and his godly micro but damn it must suck to always live in someone's shadow for possibly seasons to come.
On another note he should change his name to Marine, simple enough

Because people want to say the word "boxer" and mean Lim Yo-Hwan.
Not have to say out "SlayerS_BoxeR" every time they reference him.
I wish he would just change his name alredy, it's geting kinda iritating by now. I don't think SlayerS_'BoxeR likes it that much, even though he said he aproves of it ( probaly just polite), since if you remember from the qualifiers: Even SlayerS_'BoxeR''s girlfriend Kim Ga Yeon asked BoxeR why isn't he changing his ID. And he replied :" i'll change my ID to 김가연 Kim Ga Yeon."(her name)
talk about fooling his fans... maybe he should be called FaiL_BoxeR from now on, for disappointing the people who supported him and after saying he'll change his name to whatever his fans wanted him to change it to...
edit: imo the reason why the id boxer is so important is because we've always referred to THE slayers_boxer, the emperor, the god of starcraft, etc. when we use "boxer." Now it's associated with both atm.

Did BoxeR prove that he was boxing material first?
The new BoxeR has said that took the name because of how much he respected the old BoxeR. He probably did it so that he would feel pressured to live up to the name. And the old BoxeR doesn't seem to be too bothered about it, if you've read his comments.
He can't really go out and ask Optimus Prime if it's ok to use his name, so the only concern there is his team. So I can understand him not wanting to use the name until he really makes his mark.

Sure is melodramatic around here.
Yeah, lots of people said FoxeR. But the GOM thread also had OptimusPrime in it, and when we did the polls the only three choices were FoxeR, FauxeR, and Something Else. So it's not like we reached a definite conclusion there.
Fans recommended OptimusPrime and he liked it. That's all.

You don't make an "honor" name before the person you are honoring is out, especially if you are doing better than that person :/
He could always add his character code after BoXer like you get on ladder. A whole bunch of Americans wish to call themselves Idra on ladder then why can't this kid use the same logic with his hero?

It's fair to note that I actually copied this name from one of my friends many years ago, and I think she's still creeped out about it to this day. It also gets quite confusing at times, and neither of us have millions of fans, so imagine the situation they are in.
There are so many over-reacting butthurt fanboys in this thread. You're making it out like Boxer threw eggs at Slayer's house, kicked his dog, peed on his lawn and then farted in his face.
Boxer isn't even the full name, it's Slayers_Boxer which realBoxer already has. You're all talking like taking a name that the Boxer or Slayers name are sacred and aren't allowed by anyone other than the Emperor himself.

How do you know the Emperor is fine with it? He has the option of looking a prick himself and demand he change it or hoping the kid lives up to his many promises of changing it and making an identity of his own. He may well be fine with it but we can only guess either way based on how we ourselves may feel.

I think people are getting a bit too fanatical about a simple name change.
If Slayers_boxer really wanted his old ID back I'm sure he can just ask Boxer for it, and I'm sure Boxer will agree since Slayers_Boxer is his hero and everything. But if the real guy isn't making a huge deal about it (which only adds to my respect for him), why are so many fans raging over it?

Looks like you're not getting it. Has nothing to do with insulting the real boxer (while it is insulting, it's not worth caring about), and everything to do with how utterly stupid it is to maintain an imitation name when you're trying legitimize yourself as a recognizable progamer. SlayerSBoxeR is a, if not the, SC1 legend. He's doing a come back in SC2 and everyone is tuning in to see how he does. Then this kid shows up. Put yourself in SlayerS' shoes... That cheesy kid:
1- Uses your name (At first it's cute, but now it's just riding the popularity wave of the original one) 2- Uses your race 3- Is better than you 4- Plays in the same tournament 5- Most importantly, doesn't plan on changing name any time soon
If you really think he doesn't care at all about this situation, then I don't know what else to tell you. It's just common sense...It's just, like I said, him not wanting to look like an asshole in front of his fans.

I am merely saying that, at some point, he has to move on and make a name for himself and I am certain that SlayerSBoxeR feels the same way for (some of) the reasons I listed. If SLayerSBoxeR had a problem with BoxeR's name, all he would have to do is ask him politely to change it. BoxeR would then change it in an instant, but SlayerSBoxeR obviously does not mind, so you can all stfu now.
Don't Koreans identify the players by their real names anyhow? At least that is how it was in the BW pro scene. The commentators there pretty much just say the players real life name at all times. I can see how keeping the name BoxeR wouldn't be such a big deal for Koreans.

I don't get what Prime member he thinks is better than him as far as I'm concerned the only player that has shown to be better than him so far is NesTea.
Maybe he's never going to change his name and he just plans to continue to troll SC2 fans worldwide for his entire career with different 'planned' name changes.
Q. So, you will not change your ID? A. OptimusPrime is only given the the greatest Prime member. I didn't win, so I should look for a next opportunity. I'm going to keep using the ID BoxeR for now.
Oh boy. Another season of Foxer/Boxer confusion.
The only Prime member even close to his skill level is Check though, and Check doesn't have to worry about getting confused with a legend.
YellOw[ArnC] was never YellOw, and he won't ever be. Just like BoxeR won't ever be BoxeR. There wasn't any confusion then with the YellOws, so there shouldn't be anything wrong with the BoxeRs :D. People came up with Yarnc just like people came up with Foxer.
Seems fine to me, especially seeing as he played better than the emperor himself in the GSL, he deserves to have that ID.

He said "If I win ... I'll change my name to Optimus" when being interviewed at the GSL finals. I couldn't figure out why everyone was saying he was changing his name even after he lost - when he never said he would.
On November 17 2010 08:41 Frunkis wrote: Why is he just ripping off someone's name anyway? How hard is it to just pick ANY name that isn't already someone's name?
this is ridiculous. season 2 was fine caused' is prob too late to change and he maybe thought he was trying his luck to get in gsl. but now he is no longer some no-name player so can he please get a proper name??=_= if you really respect someone then stopping messing with that name.
On November 17 2010 08:39 vol_ wrote: Make your mind up kiddo!
He did say that he would be changing his name to Optimus if he won when they originally did the interview. Posts regarding his name change kind of jumped the gun.
Imo, this shouldn't even warrant a thread. Boxer keeps telling his fans that he's gonna change his name blah blah blah, why would he wait for a GSL win to change his name when he can simply change his name whenever he wants to.

As hard as it is to resist early game marine timings that exploit MULE to the fullest?
Sounds like that fits in with the korean culture very well.
I'm not sure if anyone posting in this thread understands what playing professional sc2 means to these guys; it is not just them playing sc2 for cash, fun and fame like most of you would.
I think it's interesting that he ever picked Optimus for an ID - however it is not his ID, just his team's ID, and he did not become the champion for Prime therefore he is not going to label himself as one. Sure he got to the finals. He is not the champion though.
The ID is just the ID. The player is the player. Doesn't really matter what ID he uses.
I just hope he didn't actually choose this id that was posted in the other qualifier thread: 이정훈 — OptimusEllenPage`BoxeRFoxerPrime[ArnC]

The poor kid's confused. He decided on Optimus and there was a huge backlash of response. Most fans said they'd call him Foxer or Boxer anyway despite the name change. He probably doesn't like being called Fake Boxer. Much safer to just remain Boxer and think of a new name next time.
Personally, I don't care what he calls himself. I just want to see the kid play. His nerves gave way in that last game with Nestea. He'd be even more awesome when he matures.

Especially being a Korean, and you know how awkward they can be with that kind of stuff.
Until this point it was fine. But now it's starting to get old. No, I am not butthurt...to tell the truth, I don't even care about this crap. It's just making it's way in annoying-territory. I am BoxeR. I will be FoxeR. I will be OptimusPrime. I will not be OptimusPrime.... Why doesn't he just answer "I'll change name when I feel like it, give me a fucking break".
Because if SlayersBoxer made a big deal of it (as so money people on this thread are) everyone else will give him shit. Why? Because he would be throwing a hissy fit over something that is not a big deal. Which is what is happening here right now. Lol.
Seriously? Mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery. Stop judging the kid. As far I (and a whole lot of other fans) are concerned, he's earned the right to call himself whatever the hell he wants, whenever the hell he wants to.
Foxer I like. Boxer I like more than Optimus and is easier to day. Fauxer is lame. Heck, I'd take ClareEllenPage over Fauxer anyday.

Agreed. If they don't have a problem with it why are you people still arguing about it. It's not your name it's boxer's name.

ManOfNoName
As a parody on ManOfOneWay.
it still wouldn't beat the guy on EU top 200 "manofbothways"
Seriously though, I think ManOfNoName is so appropriate since he doesn't seem to care about his ID. Ripped from the emperor? No problem, the emperor gave props. Fans want another name? Optimus.Prime, badass as hell, but still not good enough since he isn't a GSL champ. Why not take it one more step and comment on his own inability to choose a name. It would be even better than foxer. manofbothways is boring, his (BoxeR's) way is gaming, both would imply only two choices, which I guess would refer to bw and sc2, but it just doesn't parody Boxer's ManofOneWay well enough.
that boxer kid annoys the shit out of me. all he does is stand pigeon toed and lick his lips, oh and cry on stage too. how he managed to gain any fans last GSL is beyond me. he was annoying to me from the get go w/ his fake id, and he's (surprisingly) managed to annoy me even more.
God. I love (SlayerS_)Boxer since SC1 and everything, but must people just be this obsessed about him that they get pissed off for (Foxer) to not use a Boxer-related name?
it annoyed me b/c when the brackets first came out it showed 과일장수 and foxer playing in ro32. my heart dropped thinking i'd have to see one of my two favorites out so early. turns out it was that foxer dipshit, and he even eliminated one of my favs. insult to injury if i can say so myself.
So for clan Prime the best player of that clan gets the name OptimusPrime? Thats totally baller, though i would expect it to get confusing after a few people have had the name.
If he´s an Ellen Page fan he should go with ¨Juno¨ for his ID. Not that bad of an ID either, especially with some of the crap names we´ve seen recentlyl.
I thought he would at least stick to that one... I'm kind of dissappointed how some of the korean pros approach the whole nickname issue, Boxer/Foxer/Optimus.Prime/MarineKing/... seems like some kind of personalized parody to all this mimmicking, wildly changing to strange word combinations, changing them again 2 months later, it's seems kind of like the players don't identify with their name as their uniqueness.
They shouldn't even allow players at the top to have same names. MLG is the same way when it came to the whole Halo 3 scene where the a player in the top 16 can't have similar names or even sound the same. There was a player "Heinz" and "Hynes" about 2 years ago, and since Heinz had the higher seed and was consistently where as Hynes was an upcoming top 16 player; Hynes was forced to change his name if he wanted to compete at MLG at a high level.
BoxeRPrime is fine, since hes officially tagged on the team. SlayerSBoxer himself stated that he should keep the ID, so why not follow the words of your idol.
OptimusPrime is only given the the greatest Prime member. I didn't win, so I should look for a next opportunity.
This doesn't even make sense. For one, he's obviously the best Prime member. Why should the best Prime member win GSL to be considered the best Prime? lolwut
Exactly, he actually got higher than any other prime member has, so screw their rules!

I guess you can figure that by watching Koreans who got silver/bronze medal on Olympics look very depressing.
Honestly, he could call himself Kerrigans second spine or something and it wouldn't matter, the community will always see him as FoxeR from now on anyways.
What kind of ridiculous excuse is that, you can't steal another persons name. He's your idol we get it, hes also everyone slse's idol, now go away I want everyone to start calling me Jaedong from now on.

Yup, it's simply BoxerRPrime and SlayerSBoxer. Yeah it's a bit more to type than Foxer and Boxer, but it is more accurate since he has never actually gone by Foxer. Calling him Foxer is like calling Idra "Grack". Sure the fans want it, but the player himself doesn't call himself that.

It's more like being signed to a professional basketball team and changing your name to Michael Jordan. Or publishing a book using the pseudonym 'William Shakespere'.

He didn't change his name to 임요환. It's a dictionary word and it's not even the primary method by which the players are known. It's really time to stop caring so much.

I don't foresee him winning any GSL any time soon if he keeps playing the same way.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!
You have seen the FoxeR style on the ladder and it was a breeze to beat?!?
NO. What you have seen îs just random Diamond/Plat players making a shit-ton of marines.. I make a shit-ton of marines when i am playing terran cause it's fun, but i do not claim to say i am playing "FoxeR k-style", or some shit..

I'm glad that he's so humble as to avoid changing his name to OptimusPrime until he wins. Until then, he'll stick with the MUCH more humble title of "Boxer."
People will bitch, piss, and moan about anything. It's his own damn name, let him change it(or not) how he likes. He only get's one free chance, and it will probably be his professional handle for a long time to come. More than enough reason to be picky, and/or deliberate.
MarineKing is a good name. Was watching the all-star games last night with Foxer vs Zenio and it looked like his style was in danger, but then he came back and crushed Zenio in game 3, so I think it still has legs yet.
He's only turned 17 not that long ago. I'm sure there are plenty of more kids around that age who are a bit indecisive and capricious about deciding on their game ID. It probably also has to do with the trend that Koreans seem to prefer identifying players by their real names, so he doesn't think that it's that big of a deal. On that note, I noticed that a lot of Koreans were starting to identify even some non-Koreans by their real names ("Dario" instead of "TLO") in their forums anyway.
this kid seems a bit retarded to be to be honest, but adminds should just force him to change his name, it is just a copy, i even though optimus was seriously retarded

Yeah, am I the only one who thinks that it's fantastic for him to be BoxerPrime? Foxer (as a shorthand for "Fake Boxer") just sounds crude... As a math guy, this sounds perfect, since "[object] prime" is very standard nomenclature for a second object of the same type that's somehow related. As in, let g be some element of a group with inverse h, and let h' (read "h prime") be another inverse for g. Then h=h1=h(gh')=(hg)h'=1h'=h', so h=h' and inverses in groups are uniquely defined... See also, F prime is the derivative of F... It works on multiple levels!

Boxer has proven himself by making the GSL 2 finals. He should be able to choose to keep/change his ID as he sees fit. It's understandable to disagree with his decisions but hating his person or making stupid and hateful remarks about him is not only disrespectful to him but also to the sc2 community as a whole. Grow up...I'm sure there are other things you can find to be hateful about.
BoxeR belonged to the clan ArnC which was a merge of ArnC and NamE, the latter of which also had YellOw[Name] aka yarnc and Bifrost aka Casy[Name] aka TheMarine[Name] aka By.CrocuS. NamE was a clan founded on taking existing players' names, though I don't know the history of the reason/meaning behind it.

It is and was, somebody just bumped an old topic.
His new name is MarineKingPrime.WE
Is it? Thanks for the update!
Considering his recent style MarineKing is somewhat fitting :D
Who care what his name is The way he handled blings in GSL, Gives all of us terran players something to aspire to and all of the zerg something to fear.
His marine play is off the hook. It also shadows the whole name thing
At this point he should just change it to foxer. Optimus prime is fine, but when I left SC for a week, and came back to boxer raping, but getting killed in the finals, I was upset. Until I realized it was a fake boxer. THen I jumped up and down again.
