Thanks for this!
Crossfire looks great. This TvP is already a macro game. Gisado should test this with BitbyBit though.

If DAVIT and BitByBitPrime can play a macro game on one of these maps, they have to be good.

Thanks some of these maps are really nice

Sick game. Protoss seems to have the better engagement angle every time on the map though.

With the way the map is structured on those sides paths around the center with choke ramps going down, a MMM composition was a bad choice. The force fields zoned them very hard and the Colossi with 9 range simply cut everything down. There was no room for Terran to maneuver in those engagements. I think he should have gone a more tank heavy composition with the map features, even though tanks aren't too popular vs. Protoss. Colossi can stroll around the middle and Thermal Lance the terran's army the entire time it's trying to reach an engagement.

Had no idea TDA was THAT big.

Did they make Tal-Darim Altar smaller?Looks much better now.

Xeph even translating! Such a baller
@VonBlucher - That makes sense. I think mech is more viable now since blizzard nerfed Speedrays. Not sure though?
|
Just by the first minutes of the game Tal-Darim Altar really seems tempting. I really love the map so far EDIT: but that choke is really small without high ground advantage. Hmmm

Holy cow, how did he break 3 bunkers + marauders

What is this "glow-ish" effect around buildings? I don't have it,even at ultra,is some map side enable lighting option ?

@VonBlucher - That makes sense. I think mech is more viable now since blizzard nerfed Speedrays. Not sure though?
I'm by no means a good player but I like to theorycraft a lot. I personally think that Mech is good for a mid-game timing push, but as the game drags into lategame it becomes less and less viable. The problem is Protoss received an absurd amount of mech counters in Starcraft 2 that make going pure mech very underwhelming against them if they can receive it.
First, there is the Immortal which just roflstomps all over tanks for their cost. Whatever way you go about it, receiving 10 damage from tank shots is damn good and 50 damage to armored wrecked everything but Helions.
Secondly, Zealot Charge. As if speedalots didn't scare a meching playing hard enough, Chargelots instantly breaking into your lines and cause your tanks to splash your own troops. Chargelots are simply good against mech where they can get quick surrounds and form fighting lines which make Helions far less effectively unless micro-ed properly to flank.
Dragoons in Broodwar melted to Mech, but while Stalkers are still not overly great they are a big improvement. They have less range than upgraded goons (I think?) but their AI is smarter than a wet paper bag so you can get a lot shooting very quickly. Blink will also help immensely for closing distances into siege tanks lines and bringing more Stalker fire to bare.
And of course Thors are awful against armored air, but I feel if mech play takes off it'll have to integrate Vikings. They're not a bad choice, remind me of Goliaths and even have similar performance. They require pretty good micro and decision making though (How many vikings to keep in the air and how many to land to help in the ground fight?). Still, Vikings don't have the best time with Void Rays and if Protoss gains air dominance with Void Rays you won't have any real defense with pure mech, even Turret pushing isn't very good since buildings take extra damage from Voids.
Now of course, it all -depends- on Protoss getting all this stuff. So that's why I think Mech will be good for mid-game timing pushes vs. Protoss and not a viable late game strategy. But what do I know? People used to think meching was impossible vs. Zerg in BW but Fantasy is just a baller.
Edit: And I forgot Phoenixes, but actually a good number of Thors can deal with that well. Negating tanks for a time is obviously bad though.

I was so looking forward to watching Gisado again, thank you so much!
|
GG. Fun game. I bet Ret will have a banana grin when he sees this.
|
After watching that last ZvT on Crevasse, I think that a map that big will be very hard to stop a zerg with half a brain on. The distances are so far, and terran units are so slow, that you really can't punish the zerg enough, if at all. I think that on maps this size, we will see more broodwar-esqe turret building and seige tank placement against zerg while just constantly taking bases. That seems to be the only way that you could stop a zerg on a map this big. Super fast air units, and even faster ground units make terran unable to really leave their base to do anything about a zerg taking expansions. PvZ, though, I could see being a very fun matchup with lots of stargate + mass cannon play against zerg.
*I would love more than anything to see a TvT with good players on this map. Thinking about the epic chess match that is TvT on a map with this many expansions, and of this magnitude, makes me salivate. I already can't wait to see a TvT in the next GSL if these maps are accepted. No more repetitive 1-2 base timing pushes (hopefully)!
|
those forcefields were not that great, seems like the protoss had something in mind with the placement of them the first time around. Second though near the end I have no clue.
|
Anyone else think NEXSkit was NEXshit? LOL

Zergs are dominating this koth atm. I think most T and P havent changed their builds to account for the longer rush distances and just send their pitifully sized armies across to get raped by 2 spawn larvas worth of reinforcements

whatever for me, just pick one that does not lag and i'm good. both services work for me.

OK, from the overlook of the map, I think I find a possible major flaw in the map.
A player who spawn the the right of another player can easily harass/attack the natural and second expansions of the other player, while the reverse is not. So the "right-side" player should be easier to expand and defend the expansion.
This is because the distance from the main base to the expansion is shorter if it is clock-wise, both by air and by ground (if taking out the rock at the ramp to the third base).
|
This 3-player-map looks cool, but quite small? Anyways, I like it because 3-player-maps always have a unique feeling/playstyle: you are always "close position" but there's also always some space outside with expansion and stuff that you also need to control. I've always liked playing on 3-player maps, hopefully this (or any other) 3-player-map gets added.
|
Are those neutral supply depots on the 3 player map? How do they work/function (is there anything special or is it a doodad)?
|
Cool map , the drop distance isnt nearly as bad as Delta-Quadrant. Don't think that that will be a problem.

Where do you see neutral supply depots? The gold is blocked by destructible debris I think.
|
On January 24 2011 23:03 peeeky wrote: Are those neutral supply depots on the 3 player map? How do they work/function (is there anything special or is it a doodad)?
I don't think it's doodad. From what I saw, it actually "block" building from being built there so there's no bunker block at that position, or you can not block your ramp at the bottom without taking out the depot first too.

Does anyone know if and how you can get the VODs from the gom site in LQ? I know i can pause to preload but that's a pain and I'm no HD nerd so I'd prefer LQ. There's a heck of a lot of Hangul on the page, no idea which is the right button...
---EDIT NVM! Hooray for google translate, pooh to internet explorer for not having it.
If anyone's interested it's the tick mark just to the right of the big "play" button on the game page, and the second option down.
|
is it going to be on today as well?

A bit surprised this channel isn't featured, it's got quite some quality content from what I've seen.

Great game. Almost BW-esque TvT thanks to the map.

second this I realy think this should be featured, such great games

who is better oGsSTC or IMMVP?

Clide going for a hidden CC in another mains natural. theSTC going for same build but in his own natural.

Yeah, it should be featured. Just saw the Stream once.

Defensively sieging from the bottom of the central swastika shaped platform is working out real well for theSTC. No missrate to the highground and the L of the platforms arms to get down makes it really difficult to take on the sieged tanks. Now he just pushed up the platform with a ridiculous amount of tanks with +2 weapons upgrade and immedietly loses half of them as Clide has sieged defensively at the bottom.
|
these games have been so back and forth its unreal
|
These new maps are great :D
|
stim marauder destroy the tank line so bad. gg

Live Gisado restream will be ON after GSTL

Lol, i see why i might think there is no Stream when i check the Threat. After seeing the Red Color I immediately thought that the Stream was off.... You should really make it Green when the Stream is on.

The more BW-esque tank play, the better. Really enjoyed the STC vs Clide game, especially since it invoked the spirit of BW with mech-based macro play. It seems that these new maps are the key for macro games.

I contacted with GomTV to get permission to restream, but they denided. There will be no more restream

GomTV doesn't want us to watch decent games at all? Or are they willing to charge us to watch?
GomTV fails if the answer is yes to any of those questions.

I don't understand why Gom wouldn't allow a re stream. The only thing I could imagine is that they'll get requests for English casting?

Yay I watch the stream every morning lol. Getting to see the first person view of Korean pros is quite a rare treat, so thanks so much for doing it - I really appreciate it.

Also MVP just has way more accomplishments. I'd say MVP is just a way more solid player overall.

GomTV fails if the answer is yes to any of those questions. They are planning to provide Gisado Star-Challenge to non-Korean, but it will take long time to prepare that. I have no idea whether or not they going to chart you to watch the stream.

is there a way to watch it now, idc if it is in korean

Copyrights, yes. I'm willing to bet subscriptions will start coming in as monthly fees to watch.

Hmmm, Too bad because in the US that isn't true at all. Copyright holder can give permission to one and not another without legal problems. It must be a Korean legal issue.

Let me check this: Stream for Korean viewers is free. VODs are free to both Korean viewers AND foreigner viewers (I can and do watch Gisado VODs in a regular basis). But, a restream under their conditions is forbidden. Cool move Gretech.

but shouldnt then be some kind of official stream for foreign viewers ? whats the point of foreigners not being able to watch it live

stc playing MVP atm on Xeph's stream

They should just give you everything you want for free right? Don't be a baby.

hows about gettin a vlc link of the live program and then open it with GOM player ? Thus i'll still watch gom contents with gom player. It's possible since I used to watch korean gsl by doing so

holy crap. STC unbelievable multitask harass on MVP at LT and won. attacking all 3 of MVP's minerals line at the same time with drop marines then finish off with big drop in base.

Thanks for the response. It is certainly their prerogative. I sure miss watching Gisado's streams in the morning here.

It is too bad that they denied you to restream. Although I do get their overall stance on not allowing restreaming. Since it might make people think restreaming GTSL and GSL is fine too.
It will be a hit to my korean progress though. Maybe this thread can remain open as a programer livestream thread AND a recommended Gisado VOD thread? Just an idea.

I doubt if you really read my post. Thing is, I can and do watch Gisado and it's for free. And this is not a secret, probably Xeph posted how to watch gisado vods from GOM's korean site (someone did but i don't remember if it's Xeph or not). I never asked to reach GSL VODs for free, even though there are some certain ways to get (getting a GOM account under korean proxy is one of them).

It would be nice for the non-koreans if the VODs where at least uploaded to the other website since the korean website isnt really that fast for most of us. The replays for me just take quite a while to load even in SQ, and usually after 5-10 mins they just stop and I get an endless cycle of ads.

Agreed, I've tried to watch some vod's but it takes hours to buffer and lags really badly when I play it normally.

We are indeed.

usually I can watch vods in low quality with out much trouble, however with HD it's really diffrent. It takes forever to load ;/
Still it's way better than nothing
|
I can't watch HD or LQ from here in the UK. Pausing and buffering doesn't even work at all <i.e. the video stutters every second or so>, meaning there's absolutely no way for me to see the videos. Can't they let Xeph stream until it's fixed?

Xeph, i can only thank you for the content you provide in your stream. I recall watching Gisado on afreeca ages ago with huge lag fests, then followed him constantly on his streams and always appreciated the fact he and some of his fans here on TL took their time to release the replay files of the matches he had on his "King of the Hill".
Then he teamed up with GomTV and its basically all gone. Cant acess the stream, the VOD's take years to load and when they do you get 2 or 3 ads in your face before you even watch any of what you were looking for in the first place, and releasing replay files is gone so no way of actually sharing the content with people that cant watch the GomTV stream because it doesnt work properly on the internet connection, such as myself.
For quite a long time i was able to make VOD's out of the replay files and mentioned Gisado and his event on each and every VOD. Even questioned GomTV about the possibility of releasing the replays and adding some GomTV or Gisado banner on the VOD's in a way to promote them so they feel pleased enough to allow us, non South Korea residents, to enjoy the matches...but no, its not possible.
So currently the situation is: you cant have replay files, you cant watch it, and Xeph restream is forbidden aswell. I understand the legal issues behind it but limiting the access to the content this early on the life of SC2 doesnt seem to promote the product or attract more people to it. Divide and conquer only works when theres enough to divide, and i dont think we've reach that level yet,
Still, its GomTV / Gretech decision and we just have to move along and go watch something else instead.
Meanwhile, just want to thank you Xeph for the restreams taken directly from South Korean pro-gamers (watched oGsTheStC streaming yesterday for example) and mourn for the loss of the Gisado King of the Hill outside South Korea.
Peace.

Thank you and yes, i did read the posts above me. If by any chance you're mentioning the "we're working on it" post, i would like to mention that its always great to have GomTV "working on it" to improve the quality of the provided content, but as im sure you know, they've been "working on it" in several fronts such as:
- complaints about people paying the premium stream service and not being able to watch the live events and being reduced to VOD's - people not being able to watch the LQ free stream due to huge lag spikes (myself included) - receiving the premium payment but not allowing acess to the payed service by the paying costumer
This are only a small fraction of the existant complaints while we wait for them to "work on it".
Im not assuming or demanding GomTV / Gretech to be perfect. What i was proposing was a concept closer to "since we're working on it and cant ensure a 99.9% quality service yet, we're not blocking acess to the information untill we can provide such quality service".
Like i stated above, im aware of the legal issues behind it but being inflexible or limit yourself to literal legal interpretation usually ends up in doing more injustice than justice. I respect the organization and the people "working on it" so dont take any of the above mentioned in an offensive way since that wasnt the intention...just my two cents.
Peace.

Yes much thanks to all the effort from everyone promoting Gisado's excellent work. And it really is too bad they won't release replays with some sort of GOM banner. Maybe that's a patch Blizzard can help with?!
