So it seems like people who are inactive are put through an invisible placement match of sorts.
The first match gives you no points. If the next 3 matches were all losses then it makes sense because you start with 0 points which means you can't lose any.

After off-racing at the end of last season I dropped from platinum last season to silver this season. Two days ago I switched back to my main race and have gotten 2 promotions in 2 days, so am now platinum again. I've been playing a lot so have had 0 bonus pool (23 games today for example).
I just logged on after being offline for 2 hours and I now have a bonus pool of 69. Could it be that the ladder is trying to let me get some of the points back that I lost due to double promotions so fast?
Or have they changed back the different bonus pools between higher and lower leagues and this is the difference? Is your PC clock alright? Can you actually spend these extra points? I just checked my ACC and I still have only 99 bonus points (should be 170+/- if I were master). Clock is fine, turns out it's some weird visual bug, just won a game and only got +1 bonus pool for a +15 win, not using the rest of my 69 bonus pool that's appeared.
I had the same bug with shown bonus pool happen... showed 89 points, won a 13 point game and only got 10 bonus points. Relogged and the bonus pool shows a correct 0 now.

Is it weird that i keep getting matched up with EVEN favored players? It's been happening to me the past 25 or so games (won 80% of them, remaining 20% lost due to lag outs mostly)

Not at all, that's mostly where everyone should eventually settle.

but if im winning 80% of those matchups, should they match me up with slightly favored players and so it can determine i can hang with those players?

My bonus pool jumped from 0 to 87 in like 3 hours. What's up with that?

Did you get promoted to Master league?

I've heard several people claiming that the bonus pool in the game suddenly was shown the same as on the web, ie wrong. Then it went back to normal again. They also claimed that their time and date settings were correct. I don't know what to make out of that.

Well, it's a random display bug. That will be my answer for whoever ask it next...

I don't see how that can suddenly change without patching the game client.

It's probably being calculated at the same rate of masters bonus pool locally. Just a clientside bug after doing some stuff server side most likely.

It seems that the bronze ogsnada wasn't fake after all.
http://us.battle.net/sc2/pt/profile/1574314/1/oGsNaDa/
He was intentionally at bronze in season 2, so he could go 150 wins 0 losses into season 3 till master+.
I watched one replay and it really seems to be him, or at least a very skilled player (it's not a hack!!).
Nada exploited the ladder system to look even cooler than he already is!! XD
Edit: replay here: http://sc2shr.com/cK

I'm going to be sad when/if he gets banned.

I don't if this information is easily obtainable or not, but it'd be interesting to know how many of the top 200 masters players (points-wise) were promoted into GM league when it came out this season. 195/200 made it into GM league? 103/200? Can anyone find out? Thanks!

Well, it's not altogether relevant, but it's been about 5 days since the launch of GM league, which equates to about 65 or so bonus pool. Right now the #200 Master player on the AM server has 779 points. What you would want to know is how many of the GM players, based on maybe their SC2Ranks history, had more than 779 - 65 = 714 points before promotion.
Just at a quick glance, DeMuslim had like 1091, Optikzero had like 859, Reborn had 1150, Gatored had 910, and you just go from there.

Wow- there's some pretty serious maths there. Thanks for the help

When you don't play a season, your MMR disappears and you're forced to start over again... So even if you were master season 1, if you didn't play season 2 (which I didn't) and come back to season 3 and expect things to be the same; you're dead wrong!
WELCOME TO PLATINUM.
Blizzard REALLY wants to fuck with people who aren't active (bonus pool and now this).
I hadn't played 1v1 since season 1 as well. Season 1 I was silver, playing a lot of gold, but I finished on a pretty bad losing streak against almost exclusively silver players. I started playing in season 3 and got placed into gold. I also went 4-1, playing drunk and occasionally off race with like 2 games vs the cpu in the previous month. Let's just say that my ladder experience was significantly different from season 1. haha

Okay so looks like we finally have something more concrete on what happens when you get promoted into and out of and finally back into Master/GM league.
If you have spent more bonus pool via Master/GM league than your new Bronze-Diamond league has accrued, then you will not receive any bonus pool until the point where your new league has accrued as much as you have already spent. That is, if you spent 90 bonus pool to empty it and then dropped down to Diamond, you wouldn't earn any bonus pool until Diamond's total accumulated pool reached 90 about 5 days later. If you returned to Master league, you would have an unspent bonus pool equal to the amount you had missed out on (so if it were 5 days, you would have 90*5/7=64 bonus pool remaining after your promotion).
