However as the new season rolls in and everyone will have to do their placements matches again, will everyone for lack of a better term be "cleanly separated" into their rightful leagues? Would this also mean that for the period of time just after a new season starts that there will be little to no players who are in leagues which they should not be in?
Yeah, I don't think the confidence buffer applies to initial placement, such as at the start of a new season. At least, this seems to be the case because so many people change leagues when a new season begins, but that could also be a result of the MMR boundaries changing from one season to the next (since Blizzard can do that).

I think it must be the confidence buffer. I have a 2v2 team that has been active since release. During Season 1, we went from bronze to gold. The Season 2 placement game put us in platinum. About halfway through the season, we were demoted back to gold. Then the Season 3 placement game put us back in platinum. Then a month or so later, demoted back to gold. I think our MMR must be hovering around the gold-platinum border, so that with the confidence buffer we would never be put in platinum, but that doesn't apply to the new season placement game.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but can you say that if your adjusted ladder score went up, that your MMR increased that ladder session?

You mean increased from a previous season? If you were put in the same division tier (and there's no real way to know this unless you were in Master league for both seasons), then yes, that would be a reasonable estimation. The other possible scenario is this: let's say you were in Diamond both seasons, but your MMR fell slightly just before the next season began, and at the start of the next season you were placed one tier lower. However, your adjusted rating at the end of that new season was about 63 higher than it was the previous season. This looks like you did better than last season but because you're in a lower tier with a +63 offset from last season's tier, you actually stayed the same.

Thanks for the answer, but I actually meant something else. What if I just play about 10 games today. I lose 5, I win 5. My total points went up, does that always mean that my MMR also went up?

Not necessarily. It could simply mean that your points were below your MMR to begin with, or that you just got matched against harder opponents and lost to them while winning against evenly skilled. You would have to see a noticeable increase in points or keep track of your point gains/losses against players who SHOULD be at stable ladder point values.

No one is, till next season.

Ladder is completely fuked since last patch? No matter if it's diamonds vs silvers or whatever. Every matchup is even since last patch. Doesn't seem to matter how unfair it is, always even on score screen. Even seems to mean you got the same number of drones at start of game =)

That's fine since "even" doesn't match MMR vs MMR anyway. Usually huge league gaps like that mean a higher league player is intentionally losing games. Use their match history to confirm.

Hmm, I've won 75% of my last 20 games, but I don't seem to be facing better players, still just even matches and +11/12, and the players themselves are quite underwhelming. Could it be that a lot of inactive players who had high mmrs are playing all of a sudden?

Does anyone know when the next season actually starts? I know it locked almost 2 weeks ago, just wondering if we know when the new one begins?

Although this latest lock did occur on Monday, so Monday is also a possibility this time.

I'm not sure how it couldn't be on Monday.
Q: When will Season 4 start? A: October 24th. Source (battle.net)

If I delayed playing my first placement match of the next season will I have the same bonus pool as someone who played theirs as soon as possible? I know the person who played theirs as soon as they could wouldn't have a bonus pool but if I waited a few days would I have a bonus pool as soon as I played my placement match?

Yes. A new player starting the game right now (season 3) will start with as much as everyone else.
Everyone has the same amount. (just that some spend theirs...)
Or should I say, masters and GMs have a little more, like it's stated in the OP.
