ROOT Gaming has just announced that they have recruited a new and final recruit to complete the ROOT lineup. He is a Terran player living in Mexico, who is 17 years old still a student in High School. He has catapulted himself to the top of the ladder rankings in only two and a half weeks of playing the game, and a lot of people are saying he's scary good. He's former BroodWar tournament player, Rank A on ICCup, and a online practice partner for Korean proteam Hite Sparkyz under the tag GosI[Terran]. Juan looks to make a seamless transition to SC2 and is called a natural addition to ROOT's roster.
Included in the link is an interview with the new ROOT member, Juan "ROOTPrincess" Tena.
Incerpt from the interviews:
ROOT: Tell me a little about your BW career.
Juan: I was a online practice member for Hite SparkyZ. I played Terran and rank A in ICCup. I also competed in some tournaments like WCG and TSLs.
ROOT: That's pretty sick. I thought I'd heard your name somewhere before. How do you like SC2?
Juan: I like it so far but I believe there's still a lot to evolve. I think theres alot of stuff to be figured out. Basically the game has a lot of potential.
Also included is an interview with ROOT's Leader, Paulo "CatZ" Viscarra:
ROOT: So, right off that bat, I'll say you that Juan is a brand new recruit to Starcraft 2, and almost immediately we've asked him to join the team. Is he on another level? What do you see in him that other Terrans don't have?
CatZ: Potential, incredibly ridiculous amounts of potential. Juan has already proven to be a formidable broodwar player through hard work and perseverance. But more importantly, he's only been playing SC2 for 3 weeks and he's already like top 10 on the ladder. We had been looking for a Terran for a while and we felt like no one met our standards until we came across him.
-------- ROOT: How does he stack up to the top players, is the the North American IMMVP?
CatZ: He can pretty much already beat about anyone in NA because he is incredibly hard to keep up with. But during practice games we found out funny stuff, like he didn't know roaches and infestors could move while burrowed, or that creep provided vision. So you'd see him send his medivacs into creep thinking his opponent couldn't see them. when I said "Juan you know creep gives vision right?" he replied "REALLY?!" ... most of these things that seem basic, I mention it just to show how much potential this guy has, he just picked up the game and is already playing at top level. In a few months we expect very much from him.
With the recruitment of GosI[Terran], ROOT has stated that it is done recruiting players for a while. I think they have an extremely solid lineup for the upcoming tournaments such as NASL and MLG.
Sweet pickup, name's a tad misleading but I'm sure his results will speak for themselves in time. Edit: After reading about some of the potential drama surrounding GosI[Terran], I hope everything works out D:
Grats on a team actually letting you in their ranks! You've been playing for longer than 3 weeks undercover, we all know it. Besides, your 3 weeks of play is as much as most people play in 3 months :p
Uh oh, expect Artosis videos on his youtube channel within a couple of weeks discussing his love child. After that, expect Chill to talk about banning him. Either order works, really.

You hacked on west vs Machine.. and I am guessing that wasn't your only hacking adventure. You also pretended to be a US citizen in WCG and you have been banned from multiple clans for various versions of abuse.. you are about as dirty of a player as they come.
GosiTerran needs to learn respect. I can't wait to play against him in a clan war -_- Thanks for lying to me muchacho.
By the way, heres the story. Gositerran came to SC2 and I helped him practice, I got everyone I knew to play him to help him get better. We went over strategies and became better friends, joining team ONE in the process. I went out of my way everyday to make sure I was playing him. I was happy because I believed that he matured and wasn't a clan hopper anymore, and I felt that I was starting to trust him. I woke up this morning and he said that he was leaving team ONE because he wasn't getting practice from other members, which I agreed with, the others weren't practicing with him. Most of the other team mates I have are in Exams right now. He said he was going to leave the team to practice on his own, and neglected to tell me that he was leaving to join team ROOT.
Thanks for making me look like an asshole when I vouched for you.

Doesnt proove anything.
We talk somewhat regularly on MSN, he played for like a week in beta before selling his account after writing the game off as boring. Then he got back into gaming saw the excitement and activity of the scene and came back but had sold his account.

Sorry, but with this kind of dirty history of him, I cannot believe that he has played only 3-4 weeks and supposedly be already in top 10 of the master league. It is more believeable, that he is lying and has been training in secret.

ONE is a respectable team boasting great players. Follow the sc2 scene better and you might see that ONECruncher is in the TSL after winning a TLOpen and they've won clan wars against great teams like Fnatic and EG and probably more that I don't know.

I give this guy max 1 month in ROOT untill he leaves or gets the boot from ROOT. He was switching teams like every 2 weeks in BW and was REALLY BM. He joined my ex team back in the BW days and even if he was probably the best in our team but was so BM so we had to boot his ass because he was never there for cw anyways..... and not to mention history of hacking and abusing more than once.
Yes he was really good in BW and is probably good in SC2 but ppl never drastically change their behavior out of a sudden. He was a dick before and probably still is.

No he hasn't, Kyhol has proof that he still hasn't changed.
Don't really care much if he BMs or not. If he has stopped hacking, does the minimum things expected of him as a team player of Root (attend all clan wars on time, etc. etc.), and produces results I will be looking forward to his play.
former cheaters make me so uncomfortable, especially since stream watching is so easy and like virtually undetectable unless justin.tv does something about it.
If he's changed and actually commits to ROOT then this is amazing for them. In BW he was amazing and, based on what I saw earlier, that's carried over to SC2. Let's hope he's not the same clan hopper he used to be.

Nice! Always glad to see Root pick up more potential... though what's with the name? Princess? I'm sure it's probably been asked in this thread already, but I didn't read through all of it. :-/
Edit: I decided to go back and read some of the stuff... hmm I'm interested to see what happens with his history. From my experience with games (and yes I understand it's different on a pro level... but still) people who clan hopped in the past, do it again in the future.
Terran back from the dead? Haven´t heard anything from him since TSL 2. Curious how he does in Sc2. But im glad he didn´t name himself after a race again.
People seem to forget what kind of team ROOT actually is. Even without a major sponsor they are managing the team pretty well considering the level of players they have on the team. Their players are very loyal to the team. It's more like a family or a very good group of friends in the team and not just another team tag players are carrying. You seriously think they would let someone join the team who they doubt is going to stay in the team (teamhop)? Get over yourselves people its disrespectful towards ROOT to say the least.

You don't think all teams strive to be like a family? People switch teams all the time, but there are more amicable ways to do so other than simply leaving. CatZ invited him onto the team, but whether or not he believes GosI has changed is another story.
And it's not being disrespectful to be concerned. ROOT is a prominent NA team, and to see them invite a character with a shady past is a little scary.
Awesome pick up, I'm totally glad more Brood War top level foreigners are switching over to SC2. This guy is a sick beast and can't wait to see some more SC2 games from him. Congrats, Root!

Just to reiterate this. It was an unprofessional move by him to switch teams right after he told us he'd join ONE. Very disappointing display of (lack of) loyalty.

It is absolutely amazing how much hatred everyone has for GosI[Terran] ... like seriously, how can everyone hate on someone so much for the mistakes he made in the past, they said he is only 17 years old now, so back when he cheated he must of only been like 15 or so.......Does anyone think that little kids at this age think 100% logically and don't make any mistakes, or don't get moved by temptation to cheat / win easier?
Even though I don't like the guy, I think theres a valuable lesson to learn from this, and I think it is to forgive and forget, especially since he was so young, I think he will probably understand the level ROOT is on and just stay with them, since they are probably the best foreign team out there besides liquid imo

He just joined ROOT whilst haven given ONE the idea he was going to join their team. Certainly doesn't seem like a good start to showing his newfound professionalism.
Anywyays, I'll keep an open mind on him, maybe he has changed and will stick with ROOT from now on. With eSports becoming more popular and accessible though, I think progamers are going to need more than just gaming skills to be succesful.
I don't quite understand all the hate, I mean pretty much everyone in North America was super BM flame war US East Clan X17 users. We just BM'd for fun, if anyone has ever entered Ladder 2x2 on ICCup you would see that GosITerran is pretty mannered compared to the people he played with. Also I really don't know where these accusations of hacking came from, the guy wanted to be a progamer and trained with koreans all day, obviously he did not hack. :D
It's really disappointed to see ONE members trolling this thread and flaming GosITerran, who really just wants the opportunity to be the best player that he can be. Kyhol told him that he could train with ONE members and they would help him, which Kyhol himself just admitted wasn't happening.
Sounds like he was on ONE to have some practice partners but then he plays so much and so often that his unyielding desire for more practice games were not fulfilled and then he jumped ship to get even more practice games. Root probably can give him that though. Catz drewbie and minigun are very very active.
He's really good, I can't believe people doubt that an ICCup rank A player can't get good at a fundamentally easy game like SC2 in a matter of weeks. It's stupid and clearly bronze-level mentality. I've never touched SC:BW but come from a war3 background and i'm mid masters, i'm pretty sure anyone from iCCup rank days could easily make Masters and probably high masters at that too.
Also he does some really unrefined play, like he'll harass a zerg mid game with like 3 hellions but his late game is fcking insane

I wouldn't say they are trolling if what they say is true. Just telling their side of the story which is, he was on ONE then left to join ROOT, Which if its true he might not of grown out of clan hopping like he did in BW.
Anyways good luck to Root saw his games vs Destiny on youtube this morning when I woke up, He seems very very good for only playing for 3 weeks. But then again T is IMBA :s

there is no more limit it was removed.
Drewbie if you read the posts they are going by his past so you better hope he doesn't clan hop or anything like he did in the past so you should be able to understand all the criticism. While I don't know much about him sounds like he has a shady past ^_^.
Now this is a fucking nice pickup. I know I was vocally on the fence about Destiny, but there's no way I can reasonably say anything negative about this.
Edit: Hi CatZ, sorry for pissing you off. I'm just a very opinionated person!
I dont know anything about Gosl but from the last few pages it seem's this guy is just self centered, more about himself than the team. But with a respectable team like ROOT theres not many other American clan he can hop over to. Should be interesting to see how he act's in SC2
I've had some pretty sick games vs this guy in ladder. He's solid. Also, I don't get this hate about "clan hopping". In Halo, teams switch players a lot. You just switch teams when it seems that everyone would benefit by switching.

I have to speak in his favour, i know this kid since hes 12 years old, we live in the same city and not only that, we live very near (like 10 minutes in car) i taught this boy everything i knew about Terran in Brood War, since then he grew up as player and as person (not because of me of course, but i helped him), i know he is not the best mannered player he could be, but something we all recognize is his high level.
I lend him my account for almost 1 month now but before that i told him i wouldnt let him use my account until he reaches the Master league with some other borrowed account (ONEPrincess) still in Platinum, given that my account was already on master and around 3200+ (Not even Top 200 NA) but the thing is he owned me TvsT in such an amazing way that i just realized he was on another level.
Rushing the World ladder top 100 at the first 2 weeks he was prepared to be pro at SC2, he didnt even tell me about this news i knew because a friend told me and im just so commited to this boy to reach his fully potential like i was when he was 12.
Go Juan this is your chance to go Korea, which has been your dream since i know you!
I watched the games of Destiny verse him and holy fuck this guy is a machine. He just doesn't give Destiny even a second to relax and think. I really think Destiny has a lot of potential but so does this guy. I can see him being #1 in NA very quickly.
haha GL Juan. Juan has always been a great player, but also always been a huge fool. Hopefully sc2 will prevent him from changing teams every 3 days xD
I think I saw this guy playing ROOTDestiny last night. This guy was scary good and was attacking everywhere. Only 3 weeks of playing and already playing like that. Fuggin' scary...

its incredable that he didnt know creep gave vision and about the burrow, yet they have put so much faith into him, he must have some real game lol cant wait to see :p
Here is one of the games he played vs Destiny (last night probably? o.O). Other ones in the same channel too. Can probably find them in related videos or going through the channel. Definitely a lot of potential there. I'm excited to see him play in the next few months.
i saw on catz stream that he played him on ladder and then asking who he was and telling him that he was interested funny to see him actually join in the end :D

T_T, I wish people would stop recruiting Juan, at least for a good period of time, so he can understand that his constant clan hopping spree is retarded, and stop taking all the teams he joins for granted.
That being said gl to him and all his future teams^.^
Interesting, saw this play Catz, that's about it. Must have a lot of potential.
My guess was that ROOT was going to sign SiN based on the way they talked about his potential, but I guess this guy must be really good and has a lot of time to practice.

well, if have 1month playing its good but we have to know he was A in BW... btw i watched game 1 and 2, i dont see anything impresive here, just normal drop play from terran
just met him in ladder and he was 33-1 on his new account
made him 33-2 ^^
it's pretty amazing that he's this good after 3 weeks of playing. good luck to him, root is looking even stronger; this guy is going to be a beast really soon.

Ya Drewbie, he stuck around in ONE for all of about 3 days in the middle of almost all of our players being in Midterms which he knew about.
The funniest part about this is the first time he was contacted by catz he complained about it on vent for about 30 minutes talking about how loyal he is now days. GL keeping him around I hope he works out for you guys.

Of course I could be wrong as I am only basing it off of what has been said by other people who have encountered him, but those kind of people don't typically change for the better... if anything they make it look like they did and hope people believe them. That is just based off of my experience in life, and I am by no means saying it is impossible to change, but I find it to be less than likely.

IIRC Osto is more mannered than GosI[Terran] from my experience when i talked to them both.
considering the BM issue, I agree ROOT probably isn't the most "mannered" team out there *cough*drewbie*cough* but you know... "Starcraft 2 needs a villain" and this team might be able to battle for the spot! And in any case, there's no denying they're one of the finest foreign teams.

It's not just him being bad mannered, he's just not a good person to represent for a team in my opinion, until he becomes more respectful of ppl/teams/community around him. He never seemed to give a shit to anyone or anything but himself all through bw.
I mean when your fielding a professional team at the top of the competitive scene I would think you want players and faces that will represent your organization well. gosi[terran] is not someone who does this.
gosi[terran] just doesn't really respect ppl or conduct himself very professionally period, ever. People who know him know this.
I mean I hope he's changed his ways I honestly do but I doubt that's the case. He'll practice hardcore for some event soon and do poorly and then dissapear off the face of the planet, (or go back to playing whatever other game it was he was playing when he quit sc1 after getting raped by jf in tsl2)

It's one thing to have a personality, it's another to be a liar and abuse relationships/teams/people/tournaments for your own personal gain daily without giving a fuck about others.
If all professional sc2 is about results and not about integrity/honor/reason esports will never be successful.

why would sc2 matter. I'm talking about the person not a game.
He has almost no history of anything in sc2, has yet to really play in tournaments or do anything publicly so there's not really any proof of anything for him in sc2. Why should I believe he's a completely changed person now.
He's made shitty decisions in the past, we all have. I am sure ROOT remembers this and has taken this into consideration before they recruited him. He is going to be a top player either way and I think both ROOT and our lil Princess will be just fine.
People dont change so much. Liars and abusive persons are always liars and abusive persons.
I still dont believe he has played only a month. It is 99,9% probability that he is just lying about his playtime just to get a better image of himself to get in team. He has played actively from the beta or from the publishing.

Hmm...? He has his chance now with root. It's up to him not us. Most people have just been stating what he has already done in the past, which there is nothing wrong with. Now that he built his own reptuation, it is on HIM to change things. Again, now he has his chance to do it.

Oh you mean in the game he has been playing for a VERY short time and hasn't really had the time to do any kind of clan hopping or abuse relationships to get what he wants? Well the answer is still yes even in the short amount of time... lmao. So there is your proof... read the thread and you will see. Nothing suggests the people from ONE have lied.
"don't shit on him for something he did when he was barely 15"
First of all, I liked the wording of "barely 15" to make it seem like it was so much longer ago. It's only been about 2 years. I am not actually saying I know anything about his personality, but from my experience (and many people have experienced this in life as well) people who compulsively lied in the past and abused relationships to get what they want, continue to do it in the future. Saying he was only a kid at the age of 15 and assuming he is so much more mature at the age of 17 is a bit naive. It may be the case, but it is still naive to believe that from the information provided.
That being said, he still may be a very good member for ROOT and he may stick around. I actually kind of hope there is some drama that happens because I find it interesting, but the point that I really wanted to get at is that what you are saying really doesn't make much sense. We'll have to wait and see.

Seems like Root really wants more publicity with these recent moves. Destiny is questionable skill-wise but is popular and this new guy according to the posts is good but badmannered.
Wow! Never heard of this guy, but now I'm interested. Root must of knew this guy for awhile in order to get picked up so fast. Can't wait to see this new Root member in action.

You hacked on west vs Machine.. and I am guessing that wasn't your only hacking adventure. You also pretended to be a US citizen in WCG and you have been banned from multiple clans for various versions of abuse.. you are about as dirty of a player as they come.
I heard TT1 and kawaii used to hack..does that mean they can't play?
Oh, so that's who he was, I vaguely remember hearing that fake US citizen (which sounded kind of hilarious to me, personally) thing from the that BW Daily that Day[9] did with himself playing against Gosl. Anyways, it'll be interesting to see how this controversial figure might stir up the NA scene.

Technically it's still just creep tumors that grant vision.

I got to top 200 before I realized creep tumors could spread creep ^^, I was doing it all with my queens.
To everyone saying that he will leave root, I doubt it. He's obviously offended me and all that, but I think he should fee comfortable in ROOT. They are a famous team and he will love the attention.
If gositerran leaves he's a fucking moron, and should never be recruited by another team for the rest of his life.. Managers shouldn't waste their time on someone like that, people who act as he does don't deserve rewards.
I've been offered different contracts that are much better than ONE, but I have faith in my team and I'll be here for a while. They are good people, he didn't give it a chance. Everyone has exams now and don't have time to tend to his every need.
I won't baby him. Now ROOT has the opportunity to baby him. goo goo ga ga gosi.

haha ya, MorroW was a dick! I remember I beat him in bw and he bm'd the heck out of me, I always labeled him as bm, but then next time I saw him I wasn't talking to him cause I had no respect for him and when I explained that sometime ago he bm'd me he apologized and said he wasn't like that anymore. MorroW's an awesome dude, it takes a lot to apologize for past behavior.
People change, especially in games like sc2 where if you think about it, no one is the same people who started playing sc1 or wc3 many years ago, most of the 'top' players have some sort of rts background and are completely different people now. TT1 I used to HATE... now he's one of my best e-buddies and future roommate <3
This guy is ChavoDelOcho? saw him play against CatZ on his stream, was a totally epic game and he looked exceptionally good. Seems like a very good pick up for ROOT, hope he doesn't clan hop like some people are thinking, but you'd have to be crazy to leave ROOT
people need to understand though that BMing doesn't mean much about someone apart that he hates to lose, drewbie and I are pretty all-in on the flaming when we lose but it's not personal or anything, it's really just venting, you're better off just ignoring it

Wise words, too many people seem to get really upset over bm even though it is rarely with malicious intent
I remember that when starcraft 2 was launche, someone named chavodelocho get on LA top 200, and stayed there for like 2 months, (But it's quite easy to become an LA top 200) and participated of some tournaments, but suddenly this player left the scene...
While not really related to [Gosi]Terran, and I haven't much to say other than congratulations, it actually reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask, what happened to Koll? I seem to recall him getting a lot of hype for achieving great success in an excessively short period of time, and I don't recall anything since. What's up with that? Shortest stint in the spotlight ever?

Honestly, I think it's good that Kyhol brings to light the other side of Gosi Terran (in SC2) that was cleverly avoided in the OP... people need to know about this kind of stuff. Tho yeah, I see the bitterness in Kyhol's post.

Well if they let someone like Terran into the team they earn the disrespect
Bah you're right. I'm over it, and I was before I posted that. I was drunk when I posted. What I've said is true though. Saying that "ONE get over it" means nothing, they don't care. Has this guy played under ChavoDelOcho the whole time he started out? Beeing trying to guess nicks on Sc2ranks but that is probably not up to date but nonetheless if he's racked up over 1k games over 3+ weeks, that's pretty fucking nuts. Even 300+ games is sick and no wonder he skyrockets in skill considering his bw background.
I remember the times when he was rising in TSL2, very strong mechanics.. Hope he'll mature and show great games in Root . Grats!
I hope for ROOT he's not as big a clanwhore as in BW. If we had a thread in brood war for every time he joined a clan there our 200Kth thread would already have happened

Congrats to root they seem pretty happy with the pickup. People are making it sound like he is a rapist or something, but he seems pretty good. GL to both parties.
I don't really think its fair to hold the move from ONE to ROOT against him. He just picked upp Sc2 and wanna get a career in the game going I presume? It would be such a dumb move to NOT take the chance to join up ROOT if he was asked to do so. As we all know ROOT is an awesome team with good players with great personalities and CatZ & drewbie have been successful to recrute players before and turn them into deadly players so why would he wanna stick to team ONE?
Also, if I understand it right he knew CatZ and drewbie a little bit from BW, no? If thats the case he also had a great reason to join up with them. And a big factor in this move and why I think he will stick around in ROOT is because one of his captains have the same native language which can make a really big impact when you're joining a team from another country and you don't have english as native language, so I think he will get along well with the guys in ROOT.

Why the hostile and aggressive attitude? Kyhol has every right to tell his side of the story.
Watching him on the catz stream and wow. He FEs around the same time as zergs and continues to expand as well. I love the unorthodox style he brings and I hope to see him in some tournaments.

the 2-3 infestors kill such a ridiculous amount of marines which with pure muta play would have cost a minimum of 10 mutas to take out.
Infestors and 3-5 less mutas is a very strong trade

The thing is that he is never able to put pressure on the terran with this opening. With his playstyle he is in the defensive all the time. IF you watch someone like Idra, the terran player is almost never able to move out of his base because of his good muta harass.
Sick Sick Sick pickup for ROOT, it's hardly believable in this crowded scene someone like gositerran fell to their laps. Incredibly talented young player, no doubt he will achieve quite some success. GL to ROOT and Juan!
I've been playing sudden attack for over a year with Juan. He was one of the best Snipers who wasn't Korean. After finding out about his bw success. I constantly tried to get him to pick up sc2. It's great that he finally did.
Really humble kid and he puts sooo much time into practice. He will rip up the NA tourneys. GL mate and I hope you get a chance to play in Korea.

He's been playing pretty well since the ladder reset under the name ROOTKitty. 25-3 (89.29% winrate) #9 NA and the 2nd highest win ratio in the NA server in the top 100.

Actually he reminds me of qxc. He's plays like qxc with better multi-tasking skills and the ability to keep his macro up non-stop, it's really nice to see.
