Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
I'm just waiting to see how the infestors are used in the next few weeks.. It's going to be interesting to see what else it counters besides builds like VR Colossus.. And what it's place will be in Zvt, not just against mech.. It seems as though tanks and mech still can kill them so fast but bioballs die so quickly to fungal. Still looking for a bit more for zerg in the next patch, however, I could see an infestor build coming out soon... I kind of don't like the direction in sc2 though. As all the spells do not promote micro like Fungal growth. I wish we could see the return of more micro oriented units/spells.
I think the recent zerg drops from Idra and ret that were displayed in TSL were pretty amazing although they are very dependent on if they are scouted (similar to Brood Lords). I like the direction that zerg is headed in. Do you guys think that the Infestor will solve previous problems or will Overlord drops answer more problems? I've been experimenting with both.
And another question for myself, what's the best way to inject do you guys think with the introduction of the new hotkeys? I've been putting all my queens and Hatches on one hotkey but I haven't use the backspace method since I'm left handed. So, I've had to stick with the original hotkeys since I'm left handed and I've used the basic queen inject method.

Spanishiwa is putting infestors to pretty good use in his stream. He does a pressure/harass with banelings and infestors, and it works pretty well vs the standard turtle-push Protoss style that's taken over the ladder. I haven't seen too much from any of the other top-end players, but at the same time I'm not really looking.
As for injects, I replaced backspace with caps lock. My inject rotation is such:
Friendly Hallucinations can be targeted in 2v2 situations by Seeker Missiles. When the hallucinated unit dies (Through damage or elapsed time), the Seeker Missile will explode at its last location, providing increased accuracy for the projectile.
So I was wondering could you use a hunter missile on an ally changeling then run that changeling into an enemy army?
If this works I would imagine this would be a neat tactic. The other team would of course try to kill a ling/rine/zlot with several seeker missiles chasing it, but that's only as long as they are currently paying attention to their army.

It's talking about hallucinations, not about changelings. ( and you can always try it out for yourself )

Yeah I know it was talking about hallucinations not changelings which is why I asked. I'm just using that as a reference since I hadn't thought about using it to attack friendly units.
I can't test it out because of technical difficulties that prevent me from playing sc2.
Edit: According to additional notes on liquidpedia it can be cast on allied units so there should be no reason it can't target a changeling. Now I'm just curious how effective this would be in real team games, requires teamwork and a bit of chance or a distraction for the changeling to drag the SM(s) into the middle of their army.
I have one more question that I think applies to specifically zerg, but can apply to any race. Do you think the Notifications for when Chrono boosts, Spawn larvae, and Mules end help anyone? As a zerg player, I rarely ever notice the notifications and I'm trying to make it a habit to look for when my larvae pop. Do the notifications help you guys at all?
Oops, posted in the March thread right before it closed. Go me!
Anywho,
This seems like a good place; I don't think it deserves it's own thread, so...
I've noticed in the GSL (first) that during the battle, the observer could lower the UI (14:40 of MC versus morrow g1 http://www.gomtv.net/2011championship/vod/64030 ). I thought it was a mod that the GSL had done. However, I was watching the MLG stream earlier and saw it there too. Since I'm just now noticing it, I assume it came in with some of the other observer changes? I looked in the hotkeys list, and I don't see anything that might be it under the Observer or the UI tab. Does anyone have any information on this?

yeah but its generally way delayed all we get are replays for now. Eventually they will

It has helped me a bit, mostly just for learning the timing in my head. Now I've gotten a better feel of just how long the larvae injects last so I can know when to start going to my bases.
anyone else finding the mothership less fun now, the invulnerability cooldown patch has really made them a boring unit to use in the late game. the vortex's archon toilet and similar tactics gave some interesting micro to the late game protoss deathball. it feels like Blizzard are patching to stop tactics they didnt consider when creating the game that infact can create interesting matches away from the late game attack move and hope.
Video example of the good days of the mothership (long game, watch from 30:00 to see the late game brilliance i am talking about):+ Show Spoiler +

This has been discussed often enough already so you can use the forum search for previous discussion. I will briefly sum up the arguments I think are the most important:
LAN support has been there and removing it feels like taking something away from the customers. While it is very unlikely that Blizzard suspends their online service for a game like other companies do, it supports the impression that the industry takes PC gaming freedom away.
It has been shown several times since the release of SC2 that eSports events do in fact require LAN support. Western eSports organizers that organize SC2 events at fairs or in congress halls often must use ISPs that can not accommodate the load of video streaming and multiple games played simultaneously. As such, SC2 which is designed to be a game specifically for eSports should take this into account.
While there are valid arguments for the removal of LAN support (piracy, control about tournaments), I think that the satisfaction of the community outweighs short term revenues. Success of Blizzard games was also carried by the community by hyping releases and continious (10 year+) support for older games compared to other games that cease to be hyped and sold after 1-2 months. Despite reasons against the LAN, a great majority of players would rate the removal of LAN support as a loss.
There is a petition ongoing about adding LAN support in SC2. There are several problems with it:
I think no petition in these kind of sites has ever achieved anything.
Noone can verify the true number of signatures because you can sign in multiple times. The number on the site is therefore meaningless.
Only ardent fans that really care about the game sign it. Moreover you need to give your e-mail address away and many people do simply not know about this.
It can be easily ignored by Blizzard by just not going on that site.
So my idea is based on the history of the phrase "Furthermore, I think Carthage must be destroyed" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carthago_delenda_est). The Roman statesman Cato the elder repeats this phrase so persistently until eventually Carthage was actually destroyed in the Third Punic War. We should, in every game after every gg (or before every ragequit) write into the chat "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" until Blizzard adds this. Here are the reasons why that might work:
The formality of writing "hf gl" and "gg" has been traditionally a great example of eSports sportmanship. It is recognized and repeated from Bronze to Grandmaster League. If "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" could be spread like "gg", this would show that the SC2 community can mobilize for their course.
It is very easy to voice your opion this way if you "gg" after every game in the first place.
There might be a chance to make this viral. If many people adopt it, it might receive mainstream gaming media attention.
Doing this repeatedly prevents this matter for being ignored. There is a public outcry each time LAN support might have benefited the flow of a tournament but Blizzard can simply sit it out and one week later everything is fine and forgotten.
If pro players pick this line up and write it in streamed matches in tournaments where writing anything but "hf gl gg" is allowed (or otherwise in statements or in the end of interviews), everyone that follows SC2 as a spectator sport will be aware of the broad wish for LAN support. It does no harm to do this (we have no Kespa here).
TL;DR: "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" after every "gg".
Is TLO Terran full time, or is it just for current tournaments, or even just still being experimented with? I'm curious since I love TLO's play in general but I especially love him for playing Random.
The Liquipedia article still says Random, the MLG interview was basically 'no comment' and if you liquipedia link TLO it shows Terran so I'm just wondering if there was any official comment I've missed.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the fan club has him listed as Zerg too.
MLG: You’ve experimented with different players more than just about anyone on the SC2 pro scene, moving from Terran, to Random, to Zerg, to Random and Terran. Have you decided on a race to play fulltime?
Liquid TLO: Oh well, I don't really wanna comment on that. I have been switching races and everything so many times now. Let's just say I will simply play what I feel most comfortable with.
On April 04 2011 08:44 Fear219 wrote: Why do i see alot of pro players that stream, play with graphics on low?
Number of reasons...
-Their PC can't handle the high end graphics and maintain a good framerate
-Some feel its easier to see what is happening in the game with simpler graphics (ie. no crazy lighting effects distracting or even blocking smaller units, energy levels... etc)
-Some are just used to "bad" graphics from broodwar and are simply more comfortable because of that on low settings
Has the removal of the Amulet from the Protoss seem to have a positive effect on the play style of Protoss players? With out the option of late game storm is it causing players to rely more on upgrades and WG armies for late game potential then they had before? Just a thought that I have had since the patch and results from GSL & MLG. Anyone else agree?

They are still OP.
Protoss so OP they own all races and even have 100% win rate in PvP.
The sad, unintended consequence of MLG is all of my favorite streamers being out of action all weekend How am I supposed to relax while doing homework without their play in the background!?!
I'd like to say thanks to incontrol for being such a classy gentleman at MLG. I couldn't read exactly what he typed because the stream quality was shit, but it was something to the effect of: "gg, wp, it was an honor playing you"

Exactly how many times as protoss been nerfed? And are we to expect another nerf in the next patch? And how is the race still so good? Or are protoss players just too manly?

Why do I see some progamers (Huk for example) use their scouting probe to "nimble" from their opponents minerals to stop right before their probe actually harvests 5 minerals?
Does this serve an actuall goal or is it just a fancy way to show off micro?

Any workers that try to mine from that patch will instead move to another one which has less workers, therefore reducing the amount of patches that your opponent can mine for a short period of time.
On April 04 2011 08:44 Fear219 wrote: Why do i see alot of pro players that stream, play with graphics on low?
I think a lot of the pros that play on low setting are old SC1 players who probably prefer less intensive graphics since they aren't playing the game for the pretty graphics, but for the competitive aspect and playing on low settings means less chance of being distracted by the more "busy" and intensive graphics. During beta I think a lot of people felt playing on low settings was more beneficial for this reason. Nowadays I think the attitude is it doesn't really make a huge difference but Idra has stated at this point he's just so used to it it would feel weird switching to medium or high settings.
Personally I just really prefer the way the game looks on medium or higher settings, the ugliness of the low settings is a distraction in itself IMO. I was having issued with my graphics card crashing a lot during SC2 and I've found playing on low settings eliminated the issue with my card crashing so that may be another reason.. disconnecting in the middle of a game is always frustrating. Although lately I haven't been having problems so I'm playing on medium which I think is a good compromise since it looks almost as good as high (low is like a different game, med & high are about the same) and it's less stress on my graphics card.

the point is that only one worker can be mining off a patch at a time so if his probe is mining from a patch that means none of the opponent's SCV's can mine from that patch. So it effectively shuts that patch off from mining for 3-4 seconds or however long. If you stop before the probe actually harvests the minerals, you can keep picking at the patches denying mining for the SCV's.
really stuff like this doesn't make much of a difference, but it provides a miniscule edge and at the top level pros want to take advantage of any edge they can get because small things like this can add up..

If not even one player was capable of beating him, even if some of his games were a bit cheesy, then he deserved the gold, end of story.
Not to mention the only time he lost a single GAME was during the finals match

This is so wrong. He played nexus first, fast stargate vs Select, fast expand vs Drewbie, etc. Its totally wrong if you say he only 4gated. He played a lot of PvPs, so no surprise to see 4gates there. Its true that he cheeses more than other players, but thats makes him so dangerous and difficult to play: The fact that he can 1.) cheese, 2.) 1base, 3.) macro. If you think there should be no cheese in SC2, please blame the game, not the players.

Ty as well. I'm not mad . Just wanted to clarify. I have little respect for players who only cheese or only 1base. But they are easy readable and won't be successful in the long run (e.g. BitByBit). Nani isn't that kind of player. He often chooses to cheese or 1base just because its so strong (blame the game). That`s why Idra`s style fails, he only wants to play macro games. TLO fast expands vs him, kills him with a timing attack because Idra still only droned and people say Idra got cheesed -.-.
How do you play in MLG? Do you just buy a player pass and get thrown into the Open Bracket and have to fight your way through it? Or do you have to qualify online?

I have a small question, and I am really sorry if this is not the right place to post it, just seemed like it didn't need its own thread (I am new here and frustrating people is not what I am interested in ).
I picked up SC2 the day it came out, and it is the first real RTS I have played. I played a little in season 1 with Protoss, and got to know the ropes, though I only played about 12 games total in season 1.
Now with the release of season 2, I am interested in learning to play Zerg, but am not succeeding with it so far. I have played matches, and lost all but one of them. I am thinking of going back to Protoss just because I know the race a little better, but I am more interested in playing Zerg in reality. I am just getting frustrated doing nothing but losing.
I would just like some opinions on which race I should choose. Should I go with Protoss because of my short RTS/Starcraft backround, or just try and stick it out with Zerg and hopefully pick up on it sooner or later?
Thanks for all the help everyone, and sorry if this seems like I can't make a decision on my own.

Hi all this seemed the most appropriate place to ask, where is the thread for theory crafting, experimental BOs etc.? and also how do I upload replays ? cheers
When you build a natural and migrate probes to it, how many should you send? Also, do you keep producing probes in your main Nexus after? Are those rallied to the main still or rallied to the natural?

I think that you should stick to Protoss or even go Terran, since you are a new player.
I'm new to RTS games in general myself, and I play Terran. Terran is the easiest race for a new player to learn in my opinion. I would say Zerg is the hardest, especially because it takes a lot of macro and attention to detail, such as when to make workers, and when to make units.
I've tried changing to Zerg myself, but I just had a very hard time with it, I figure I might be able to pick it up after I get a bit more seasoned in Starcraft 2.
You might even consider playing random for awhile until you have decided on a race that you feel you work best with.

I hear what you are saying, but don't give up on the swarm !
A few things that differentiates Zerg play from Protoss play IMO:
Attacking: Get used to surrounding and hitting enemy armies from all angles as opposed to hitting your enemy's army head on. Getting a proper surround is usually the difference in a battle for a Zerg player.
Production: Timing is important; such as knowing when to drone up and knowing when to produce military units. Screwing up either of these can cost you many games as a Zerg player as your worker production building is the same as your unit production building. (Hatachary
Harass: Don't leave your opponent alone, especially as Zerg. You never want a Terran or Protoss to get a 200/200 army if you can help it.
I'll just end by saying I've gotten the most satisfaction winning with Zerg, there is something about smashing faces with Zerg that keeps this game fresh for me.
TL;DR - Zerg is rewarding once you play with it long enough, stick with it !

Go check mrbitter's vods, those early ones are great for new players like you. http://www.mrbitter.blip.tv/ Trying to coach you here is pretty pointless. Advice from me: use the builds machine used in those vods, focus on not botching them in the game. Practice your build orders/larva vomiting/creep spreading in vs. AI games. Don't be bothered by losses, there will be a lot more of them.
I was just watching Tyler's stream and had a quick question. When he sent a probe to mine, it looked as though he clicked one patch and then clicked another closer one. Did he shift-click it to ensure that he would maximize the number of probes mining from the close patches? I just try to set the rally point to the closest patch with only 1 worker, but that doesn't work if the timing is off and the probe just goes to another patch.

99% sure they wont. MLG or IEM matches dont appear, so dont think NASL would be special.
MLG or IEM are 3-4 day tournaments. New pairings are decided 1-2 hours before the next match. Impossible to liquibet. Pretty sure, NASL will be on liquibet.

So not sure if this should have its own thread or not so ill start the discussion here. In day 9 daily # 252 on fundamental mechanics Day9 talks about using hot keys and image keys to move around the map rather than screen scrolling. However when I watch pro streams/replays from people like SeleCT Huk and IdrA I see a lot of them grabbing their view box on the mini map and scrolling that to the area they want to view. They do use the number hot keys to move from their army to unit producing structures but anything else is mini map scrolling. Is this just a bad habit that some pros have or does anyone know if mini map scrolling is faster than using your 10 number hot keys and 8 image hot keys to move about the map? The reason im asking is im focusing on increasing my APM (not spamming) but actually trying to get more things done per minute and would rather spend my time training the right way rather than developing a bad habit that I have to break myself of later on.

Yeah, it's what lagbzz said (or at least I'm 99% sure). The change in animation for the Roach and Hydra are just an animation change, not the attack type change. I think it would maybe make more sense to have it count as a melee when in that range so that you could do more damage by running your units up into the guardian shield, but that would probably open up a whole balance discussion

Well I would say don't trust replays, as much. They do this weird thing, where if i were to recall a camera-save or jump to a control group instantaneously, and you happened to watch the replay from my point of view, it would look like i scrolled really fast across the screen to get to my objective. When infact i didn't actually do that.
However if your noticing Pros on streams do an excessive amount of scrolling i would say it is a flaw in their play. You can do things a lot more efficiently via control groups.
Once your hands pick up on using all your control groups and camera saves. It is the fastest way, for almost all tasks.
I would say despite what your seeing from the pros you should strive to scroll the least amount possible. if you have to scroll make sure your not scrolling more than a half screen over, because if you are then a camera save would have been the better option.
personally i'm actually quite good at not having to scroll anywhere, and because my i use my control groups to get around the map i rarely have to click the mini map even. Infact i would consider this my biggest strength.
I play Zerg. Not sure if that makes it a bit easier to rely purely on control groups. Though Here is what i do.
1-4 queens
1 main, 2 nat, 3 third, 4 fourth. Any extra bases can be placed on a camera save.
Camera Save - Rally points, Upgrade structures (Evos / Spire), Paths of creep distant from my queen.
Not that you should copy me, your hotkeys should be fitted to you. The point is i pretty much have a control group or a camera save anywhere i could want to look.
You should try to make your hotkeys capable of doing the same.
I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for it - but can someone help me find a game?
It was in the GSL and it was a game LosirA was in. Tasteless and Artosis were talking about how amazing it would be to be coached by NesTea, saying things like: "and then he's like. 'No. You do it like this', and then he like ... puts his hand on yours and shows you how to do it."
I'm pretty sure it was in the series against Zenex. If anyone knows which game I'm talking about, please tell me!

I think you *may* be talking about something slightly different.
What Day9 said was a terrible, terrible idea was scrolling your screen by moving your mouse to the edge of the window and having the screen scroll that way.
That takes a *lot* more time and and mouse movemnt than clicking on the right place on the minimap, and that's what I gathered was the big big no-no.
So use hotkeys whenever you can - whenever it's an area you'll be going to often. For other places, just click on the minimap in the right place. (And remember - if you're watching a replay, it sometimes does this stupid thing where it 'smooths out' the camera movement - even if you clicked somewhere on the minimap, the replay will show you quickly scrolling there.)

I am currently playing Practice League games as Zerg and am concerned I may be developing bad habits. I've watched a bit of Day9 videos and some VODs, Replays, and Streams of some zerg players. In Practice League games, you get maps with rocks on the ramps that discourage/block early game scouting and aggression that fills all the videos I've found. I'm concerned that practicing on these maps will leave my early game play weak and susceptible to an early push once I get into Placement/Bronze games. At the same time, I'm sure the Practice League is there for a reason and don't want to just skip through it completely unprepared. I'm just not sure if I'm learning the right habits due to the modified maps. The Terrans I've played against have bunkered and sieged up heavy to repel my initial ling/roach attacks, so I've ended up going Brood Lords and Corrupters to run over the base. I just know that's not something I can expect to be doing a lot of as I start progressing.
What do yall think? Is Practice League a waste and should I just skip through to placement to see real maps and develop habits on those win or lose? Or should I use the protection to focus on speeding up my expanding and teching and late game units? Thanks for the help!
i played all of my practice league games, and to be honest i was hoping that season 2 would allow me to play in the practice league once again.
to be able to play competitively on a slower pace would help me refine builds and timings. dont skip it, its a great learning tool
btw the rocks are there to strengthen your early game macro and if your macro is perfect by the time someone decides to early push u should be able to hold it off.
In my opinion, the practice league does not build good habits. It is much easier to grab a buddy (or even a random player from teamliquid) and start up a game on normal speed. Use these custom games to refine your build orders. You should even use custom maps like YABOT to refine your build order. The reason I think practice maps teach you bad habits is because they restrict scouting and promote 1-base strategies. I strongly suggest just going headfirst into bronze, loosing tons of games, but watch each replay and see what they did and what you should look for with your scouts.
I suggest picking out 3 strategies , one for each matchup, that focus on an expansion (PvP and ZvZ are the exception to this). Practice in custome games vs easy AI and do your best to never be supply capped, always keep your minerals low, and get your expansion up. Then play in bronze league and practice scouting and seeing what your opponent is up to. You will loose a fair amount but go back to the replay and see what made you loose.
tl;dr Practice league teaches bad habits because you cant practice important things like scouting and expanding strategies. Practice build vs easy AI and scouting/attacking in bronze league.

yea agreed the game speed alone makes practice league bad because you really don't want to get used to playing at the slower speed... you'll just be that much more unprepared when you actually play on normal game speed.. the rocks also mean games on practice will play out much differently than real games.. honestly I think all noobs should just start in bronze league and work their way up from there... that way they can get used to the way the game is actually played..
unless you've like never played an RTS game before, have absolutely no experience and just want to learn what units do and stuff I would reccomend staying away from practice league completely..
I would even go as far to say practice games against AI on normal speed and normal maps is better..

Just practice against bots until you feel comfortable enough with the game to start laddering. The practice league isn't going to do you any good.

I played 10 practice league games and honestly, all it got me was wasted time. I'm not even gonna mention the silly maps. The slower speed alone actually messes up your timing on both your micro and macro and you'll develop bad habits that'll be harder to unlearn than learning good habits from scratch.

Practice league is not worth it, IMO. Your time is better spent playing custom or vsAI games on the actual maps that you ladder on. Others have mentioned the reasons why i feel this way, but most important is that you get accustomed to playing at faster speed.
I understand that it may be unnerving to jump past the practice...but do it!!~^^

What the heck, I'm dodging my research paper right now anyway. Spoiler tagged just in case
1) MC. Pretty obvious pick. 2) MarineKing. You're in good shape when you beat the guy who's number 1 on the list. 3) July. Best Zerg in the world IMHO 4) MVP. Would be even higher if not for the whole Code A thing 5) San. He's for real, proved his GSL March run wasn't a fluke. 6) Naniwa. Dominated MLG, still in the TSL, and a preseason favorite in the NASL. 7) ST-Bomber. Number 1 on the Korean ladder, a shoe-in to make Code S. 8) White-Ra. Beat MC despite PvP being his worst matchup. 9) IMLosira. Has shown himself to be an amazing defensive Zerg. 10) Jinro or Nestea. Really can't decide, but they're in the same group this GSL, so we'll see ^^
HM: SeleCt, Idra, Kiwkaki, AnyPro, MorroW, NaDa....it was really hard stopping at 10 EDIT: I should probably just give the 10th slot to Jinro, seeing as how he made this thread ^.^
Having had a longer break, I played a couple of games recently and I have to ask this: why on earth do medivacs have priority over marauders/marines when put into a control group together?
This was definitely not the case pre 1.3. Already I play with my cc on 5, making it a total of 4 control groups. If I have to put my medivacs in a seperate group now, I am in trouble. Tabbing is not an option since i want to be able to stim asap.
Why would you do that blizzard? Makes no sense to me, or am I missing something mayhaps?
edit: It only happens with a pure marauder/medivac control group. So always remember to take your marine with you. Maybe it was like that pre 1.3 and i just never had it occuring.
Does anyone know how to play late game PvT anymore? Without amulet, it seems I keep dying to ANYTHING the terran throws at me. My PvT record is pretty good, but I usually win in the mid game due to colossus vs low viking count, or setting up a FF contain.
But now that amulet is gone, I have lost every 30+ minute game against terran. Once you start taking your 4th or 5th base that is pretty far (or even a different main) then you keep getting dropped everywhere. And without warp-in storm it is getting pretty ridiculous. I am already setting up templars in each base, but I am spread too thin because templar are 150 a piece, and I have basically no army if I were to put 2 at each expo (and also my main structures). But I still suck it up and put two at each base. I was able to ward off the first wave of drops, but my opponent is able to mass rally marauders and soon I am finding myself wishing I still had warp-in storms.
Think about it: it takes maybe 3-4 storms to kill marauders, assuming the marauder moves a little bit. Sure you can get off the storms since you prepared templar at each base. But the drops keep on coming, and soon your forces are too thin.
An example is last game: tal darim altar. Goes into a long 30+ minute game, and I am forced to take another main. I am good for the first few minutes since I had my templar set up. But drops keep whittling me down. He doesn't even get ghosts. He just rallies marauders, does 2 dropship marauder drops, and eventually kills me. I was always a base ahead of him, but I was unable to harass him and he kept harassing my bases.
There are obviously many things that I could have done better in the game (split my army better, do some storm drops, etc) but there must be some other way to PvT without having to be perfect. Obviously templar would work in a perfectly described scenario, but in a real game stuff doesn't always turn out as planned. Even in pro games, marauder drops survive the initial storms, and snipe a nexus so quickly before the protoss army can get to it.
Please tell me how to handle late game PvT!!
Another complaint is that templar have NO OFFENSIVE POTENTIAL at all anymore. Sigh...
Regarding all the practice league posts. I recently skipped the practice league and it was the best thing I could have done. As zerg it was impossible to get that second hatch early, impossible to scout, and very hard to compete with other races that can turtle behind rocks and roll out.
Transitioning into league games was difficult. I worked on my build vs the AI on normal difficulty and normal speed. When I could consistently beat the AI, I bumped it up to Fast, then Faster. Eventually I was able to beat the AI on Hard with Faster speed. Then I felt I was ready for ladder.
I jumped in head first saying, hey, I don't care about winning, I just want to have fun. I actually won 3/5 of the placement matches! Now I'm in Gold league, getting my but kicked by cannon rushes and other cheese, but am learning all the time. I held off an early protoss proxy rush not too long ago and am currently on a 2 game win streak!
Playing vs AI helped get used to the speed of the game, but only jumping into the ladder will give you the experience you need. I suggest you dive in and work on small goals there. First work on scouting early cheese. Then work on getting enough units on the field by 6mins, by 8mins, by 10, etc. Set small goals and celebrate them regardless of win or loss.
Its a game, have fun! Winning isn't everything. Eventually the wins will come.
i haven't played since the ladder reset so today i wanted to play my 1 placement match but the queue goes on forever and it just doesnt match me with anyone..any ideas? T_T

i think your being generous to the non koreans maybe they would all feature in a top 20/30 but i cant see any white guy being in the top 10, fact is none of them made top 10 in the last gsl so its hard to justify putting them there even if they can take 1 or 2 games off of MC or MKP.

hey... quick question... I'm having trouble casting forcefields. Searched forcefields, and none of the threads help.
To the best of my knowledge, the only way to the use the shift method to cast is to press stop first (pressing f then shift does not work). I don't want to add another button press and slow my ffs down...
When I hold f and click the mouse, usually that works, but sometimes I end up clicking a zerg unit despite holding f down. This would happen when I would use the hold button click method to warp in units as well until I started using shift (I would end up selecting one of my own units or a pylon).
I don't this is supposed to happen... but it does. Usually in huge battles. I'm positive I'm slamming down the f k when this happens. Do I have any recourse besides hitting my sentry hotkey again and pressing f again?
Blink stalkers just got REALLY popular in pvp last month. Everyone and their mom is doing defensive 4 gate into blink stalkers. It is a much better transition than robo I think, and you can actually beat 3gate robo if your opponent went straight to colossus instead of getting many immortals. I wonder if DTs will start to get popular as well.

I use this all the time. I even get a couple cannons and a plus one so I can hold then attack with more success.

For me, I've noticed a lot more protoss playing robo builds instead of any 4 gate opening trying to push the game into Colossus wars.

I don't this is supposed to happen... but it does. Usually in huge battles. I'm positive I'm slamming down the f k when this happens. Do I have any recourse besides hitting my sentry hotkey again and pressing f again?
I know what you're talking about, but it's a problem that just randomly comes up now and again. I practice a lot vs the ai on my laptop on campus when I can't commit to real games to just practicing forcefields in all the maps. I try to place them as efficiently and quickly as possible (in an attempt to emulate the pros).
Since I've gotten faster, I haven't had the problem of accidentally clicking on a unit. May just be a coincidence, but it's worth trying out.

I wonder if DTs will start to get popular as well.
What league are you in?
For me, I've noticed a lot more protoss playing robo builds instead of any 4 gate opening trying to push the game into Colossus wars.
middle masters. I don't even remember the last time I saw a 2gas opener or traditional 3gate robo. It's either 19-20 probe offensive 4-gate or 21-24 probe defensive 4-gate. Sometimes they do 3 gates off of 1 gas, chronos on probes, and delayed 4th gate. It's about the equivalent of the 21-24 probe defensive 4 gate though.
I'm trying out the 1gate robo build that kcdc posted about months ago. You know how 2/3 gate robo requires "good micro" to hold a 4 gate? So does 1gate robo, but it's in a different way. With 2/3 gate robo, if your ff is off by 1 hex, or 1 second, you lose the game. With 1 gate robo, you don't need to worry about that, you just have to micro the shit out of your 1-2 immortals and keep them firing at stalkers while not taking too many hits. It's still pretty hard, but I think this build might catch on in the future, because you're just in such a great position if it turned out he was going for a more eco-based 4 gate. With the 3stalker rush into 3-gate robo, I had severe problems against defensive 4 gaters and 3 gates 1 gas delayed 4th gate. I'm also quite sure that build will get crushed by an astute 4-gater who simply backs off, builds probes, and transitions to blink. Blink is just so strong against small numbers of robo units.
I'm honestly relieved to spawn close positions because the adelscott 2gate pvp is still so unexpected and wins so many games with the first poke.
I do kinda hope blizzard does something about this. The 4gates over and over again are moderately fun and interesting as a player, but it's horrible from a spectator standpoint. I think just lowering immortal and/or robo build time would have almost 0 impact on pvz, very little on pvt, but could put an end to the 4gate or die pvp metagame. But then I guess colossus wars are hardly a great alternative...
On April 08 2011 20:16 wxwx wrote: Does anyone know how to play late game PvT anymore?
Sigh...
Both Templars are good. No idea what you mean by "templar have NO OFFENSIVE POTENTIAL at all anymore.". Put 1 or 2 dark templar in your army, so that it forces a scan and they take damage while killing off the dark templars or they kill your army but heavy damage from the dark templar. For high templar, all you gotta do is warp them in ahead of time. No more of the OP insta-storm. Never miss a production cycle and make archons if they go bio. If they go mech, grab a shit ton of voids and carriers. Make sure you are constantly upgrading, constantly producing units, and keep pushing. You will eventually overwhelm them. If there are too many vikings, obviously, you should stop wasting money on colossi and spam Stalker-Sentry-Zealot. It's a very powerful combination.

I think High Templar to the mineral line will be next.

You can get VODs there of the casts, but not actual replays are being released. There was a big discussion about that a while ago in one of the threads, and it pretty much came down to the fact that TL has no control over how people use the replays for rebroadcasts or anything like that. Why would both Dimaga and WhiteRa be above San when he soundly beat them both?
Guys, I've been watching a LOT of competitive gameplay, and I see little-to-no Protoss play. This upsets me because I'm a fairly new player and I LOVE protoss!
My question: Is this because they are unbalanced/weaker than the other races? Are they viable at a top level?
If you've already seen a LOT a competitive games, you must not ask that.
About the world ranking, I can agree on 1st to 4th, its becomes a little harder after... There are quite a lot of players with enough skill to be here. I can say maybe NaDa, Kas, Naniwa ...

Idra really doesn't deserve to be there, if you were going to put another non-korean in there, it would have to be Jinro. He always got farther in GSL, and always beats Idra in their series'. Idra has a lot of hype because of his personality but he's not actually top 10.
And why did you put MC and MVP as one person? I hope you know they are 2 different people, so you actually listed 11.

Or not. MC and MVP are 2. That's why Marineking is number 3 (even if Marineking did win against MC).
On all production buildings. Terran for example, there is a symbol that changes and i cant figure out what the symbol changes according to. is it randomized? a specific example is on the platform that lowers on a starport. the symbol is always on the circle, but its different a lot of the time, on a zerg hatchery i have seen it in a star formation around the base. I originally thought it changed with player color, but i have seen multiple symbols when the terran is blue. are these just randomized or what? does anyone know what it is?
Hey, i would like to ask you Jinro, if LiquidJinro (without `) on the EU server belongs to you. It's a protoss user but cheking the matchhistory, showed some decent opponents so it might be you off-racing
can anybody give or link me a basic build vs. toss as terran ? i always go kinda blind in to TvP, and a solid build - which i can refine with practice - would help me out a lot.
Just get a strong bio ball with tanks, medivacs, and vikings. Only go vikings when u see a stargate. Otherwise, start pumping out combat sheild, stim, shells and upgrades for the bio army, The tanks are great against protoss, but target fire immortals immediatly. Keep the medivacs alive as well. U should open with 2 rax along with a factory and a starport, and then react to any other things u see. U can talior this idea to however u would like to. BTW, turtle. Let the protoss come to u, and win the defensive battle. once u do that, kill him and hit the gg button.

it changes based on your decal (which you get with getting 500,1000 wins)
You can change it in your profile I guess, in the tab "rewards" and then "decals". I say "I guess" because my computer is shitty, I can't see them when playing.
The thing you guys aren't taking into account is that power rank is MONTHLY as in what has happened THIS MONTH sure NaDa was a beast in BW but is he in the power rank? no because he has done LITERALLY NOTHING this month. You put IdrA in because he... got a meh place in MLG? also someone said "You should put Jinro in cause he has better results than IdrA" yeah ofc he got Ro4 in gsl season 3 AND 4. Which was MONTHS ago, in this month White-Ra is not deserving of being in the power rank, Dimaga is deserving of being in power rank but certainly not above San... If I were to make a power rank I would do this.
when I say "this month" I bascially mean april and march combined since 10 days isn't enough 1. MVP
He managed to take the world championships obviously...
2. MKP
Very close between MC and MKP but I put MKP above MC cause of his hero comeback against MC :D
3. MC
MC is MC, 'nuff said.
4. JulyZerg
Was the hero of the korean team, beating 4 very formidable players. Also beat NaDa in what looked like a pretty one sided series.
5. Naniwa
How the fuck can you not say Nani did great this month? 26-2 in a tournament with extremely competition. Dropping two games in a pretty gay matchup.
6. San
Sure he got Ro4 but he beat WhiteRa in a PvP taking down Dimaga then failing to take down the titan that is MVP.
7. DIMAGA
Nearly making nerds all over the planet ecstatic by nearly disassembling 3 of the best players in the world. Then shortly after getting revenge on NesTea
8. SeleCT
SeleCT had a great showing at MLG taking his group 4-0 taking down teammate Sjow, Ret, Qxc and Haypro winning each series 2-0! He then proceeded to 2-0 Incontrol and in the end nabbing 3rd.
I wanted to spread the word on a project that's going to be going down this summer. Me, a few friends, and other production people are going to be making a Starcraft fan film. We're super excited to get this off and running, but we need your help with raising the funds for the movie.
I don't know of any 'good' Starcraft fan films, if any have been done, but this one will be a short film that I hope will make the Starcraft fans happy and even more into the great story of Starcraft. The film will be following a fictional marine during the invasion of Tarsonis City and its evacuation. If you're interested in following the project or even make a small donation to it, go to this link: http://www.indiegogo.com/Tarsonis
We'll be doing updates on the project as it goes along the production line. Please spread the word to every Starcraft fan you know. Thanks.

I have this very urgent problem with this unit composition because my ladder rank keeps dropping cause i keep losing to this compo Any suggestions will be most welcome. btw baneling, muta, infestors w/ fungal is soooo op and infestors need to be nerfed
I am a Silver level Terran player looking to switch to Zerg.
I've been sort of tired of playing nothing but Terran, and I've been playing Zerg in 2v2 games, and I enjoy it much more. So I've decided recently to switch full time to being a Zerg player.
So far as I play in 2v2 randoms, I find myself with way too much money. I'll try to tech further to hydras or mutas, but then I find I don't have enough gas, so I end up just making nothing but lings. Massive lings have been working ok in 2v2, but I know I'll eventually have problems when I start to play 1v1 ladder games.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get me started? Things such as build orders, hotkeys, and strategy would help me.

Those are some excellent guides to some zerg basics. Hotkeys are your preference, I personally use:
1/2/3 Army 4 All hatcheries 5 Queen 1 6 Queen 2 7 Queen 3
Etc.
If you're serious about Zerg, then check out 12 weeks with the pros. Mr. Bitter goes through a 12 week course with a bunch of pro players to hammer out Zerg matchups. It's excellent.
I was just wondering if anyone could help me I am trying to convince my school to create a competitive Starcraft 2 team, similar to a chess team. I need a couple bits of information that i am having trouble finding. any links or suggestions on the execution would be great.
1. Monthly/weekly tournaments I could register my Players in 2. Any sort of support from notabl players that would show that Gaming can be a viable club for the school. This would mean maybe support for our cause by any with a notable name. 3. Any sort of community support and viable arguments i could use for justifying this to the parents of my students and team mates.
How would a possible nerf to protoss be like this: The further you are from one of your own Nexuses wherever you warp in units, the longer the warp in time is.
This would make rushes less effective and create a small advantage to the defender in a mirror matchup. For example this would make aggresive four warp gates all in less effective and easier to defend against for the defender.
How much longer time a warp in would take depending on how far away i dont know, but a couple of seconds or so would do the trick?
Anyone else find they're being baneling busted like >50% of their vZ games? Ironic how zerg always complains about other races cheesing/being aggressive. This is starting to piss me off.
edit: Recently demoted from masters to diamond. Over 70% of my games are cheese/1 base all ins. Is ladder always like this? I win the majority of my macro games but those come only once every 10 games. I find it ironic how people always want to play macro games, yet they never do.

Perhaps you're going for "macro" openings that appear very greedy? Generally I'll play macro zerg and basically defend until I'm ~3 bases, but if I see you do an opening I think is unstable I might just go try and break it instead.
I have questions about the Forcefield besides the fact that it is imba. Q1: Can you block a terran building from landing with it? Q2: What happens when FF is used on a sieged tank? Q3: What should be the nerf if the blizzard realizes that forcefield should be nerfed?

Have you tried any air because only the infestor can do anything against them in that composition? lol
1) Are you p or t?
2) Against bling/muta/infestor the best thing I can think of as a toss is zlots to take the brunt of the damage from the blings then come behind with stalk/sentries/collossi or again go void/phoenix, or even while the zlots are getting killed throw in a psystorm.
I let a Terrain give the best T comp for that build.
I used to buy the Starter Kit of Starcraft II after a friend of mine gave me his guest pass. Now that I have saved some cash from selling my old junk, I think I can actually afford the damn game. It's way too fucking expensive where I live, and I think it's for good reason.

I'm tilted to fuck and back. I just went on an awesome 7 game losing streak. 3-4 all-in builds and just a few were I got out macroed. But the good news is they were all Diamond opponents, and I'm platinum, so when I recover I should be getting close to promotion. :D

I didn't see him scout the base as he put the pylon down before going in White Ra's base and I don't think he had any other indication that White Ra was cross instead of close by air.

Yeah it was an altered map; earlier in the tournament other players scouted the non-cross bases and the casters reminded us multiple times that was not needed.

Hi! I'm new to this site/SC2 in general-- I started two days ago... I'm a vet at other games though and seem to be picking this up okay. I have a few good friends sponsored by LG but they're always extremely busy doing tutoring sessions and tournaments so I feel bad plaguing them for their help... I was just wondering if there would be any decently skilled player that could give me some pointers. I'm going to start watching some videos etc. Any suggestions or advice is welcome really, I have been playing protoss lately(people tell me its cheese but a friend said it was the easiest to pick up on) but one major problem I was having was zergling rushes in the start of the match before I can make any zealots... I have the basic toss build order down for the start and I was trying to block off my opening with forge/gateway but twice tonight the buildings never could finish before I was overwhelmed with zerglings.
anyways sorry for the wall of text-- I just didn't feel like it was warranted enough to make my own thread
How often do you guys think you need to replay to maintain skill/slowly improve? Not sure how much time I'll have in the near future. I just had to take like 4 days off and when I jumped back in, everything felt off for me; was getting supply blocked all the time, forgetting when to make stuff, etc. Just a bad few days maybe?
Has anybody been promoted from diamond to master league in the 4sRT bracket? I chased it all last season and don't want to waste my time this one if it isn't remotely possible.
does anyone know the approx number of players on the different servers? people say that kor is the hardest etc, but i got a feeling that the server with the highest number of players will deliver the absolute best in the end.. and surely the eu and na-servers must have more players?
i think it will in the long run, korean domination at the moment i feel has more to do with history from the BW-days, and mentality as well as ease to get sponsors etc. as time goes on the huge talent pool from the bigger servers will mean better players will emerge
thats what i think atleast.. if we look at other sports, the country with the highest number of active players always has the best/one of the best national teams (depending on how large the difference in active players is).
theres no such thing as a small country with a few active players dominating a sport
Those few active players also don't have access to the best training environment though hence they can't become the best team. Korea certainly doesn't have that problem. Even if the next Flash emerges from America (which I don't think will happen), I have no doubt that the average skill of Korea will still be higher than North America. The culture differences in gaming prevents this region from succeeding. Everything in Korea is more refined because they care about being good.
Hi everyone, i am 17 years old and i love playing computer games specially starcraft 2 and but i am only a 1v1 gold / team 3v3 player....is it possible for me to become a progamer in 2 years with hard working etc, or is it too late? i am very determined , i just want to know if its possible
also i am playing on european server, so any help / coaching would be appreciated
Its never to late to follow ure dreams, but progaming is VERY competitive and hard to stand out in! If u work hard and stay determined im sure u can succeed.

I think sc2ranks.com is the best source. Simple copy/paste from front page:

Yes.
I guess only lesser known casters cast for free as the more they cast the more known they will be, so they'd be the only ones to have another benefit at casting rather than a monetary benefit.

yeah, i noticed a little while after my post. i thought EU and NA would be even bigger (compared to KR), considering the difference in populations.. but i still think korea will cease dominating soon, 1 year from now i absolutely think there will be a more even playing field.
culture is of course important, but its easily imported, today theres nothing saying a pro team based in korea have to be better than one based in stockholm or anywhere else
Does anyone else feel forced to use unit health bars because of how useful they can be, but also feel that they get in the way of the game? They just seem too big and bulky to me.
I was thinking it would be nice to have some other options on health bars to make them blend in a bit more but still easily readable, like making them opaque or smaller, or give them a visual improvement to make them blend a bit more.
Am I alone in this? or are there others that are annoyed by these bars?
I think it would be great if spawn locations would show up on the map previews on battle.net (and on the loading screen). I think it would be very helpful considering how tournaments have been tweaking their maps slightly and changing the possible spawn locations.
Ultimately it's the players' responsibility to check these things, of course, but it's a stupid mistake to lose a game to (played a role in the White-ra vs MC dreamhack game, for instance) and I don't think it benefits anyone that such mistakes can happen. I imagine it is easy to become unsure of such things during a high-pressure tournament setting.

Hey, i just played a 1v1 ladder game and won, however when i went to the score screen, there was no points, neither in the match history. Pictures down below, anyone got an explanation? thanks
I have a question. I play on SEA and NA. 2 days ago, I got promoted to Plat on NA. After which, I stopped playing till yesterday. Upon playing yesterday, had noticed that the bonus pool on my NA account hadn't increased at all. That's a good 16 hours or so of no accumulation. I went onto my SEA account, and got the bonus pool to 0. They were both at 0 when I stopped playing yesterday.
Then today I sign in, and see that my SEA account has 28 bonus pool, but my NA account only has 13.
So, my question, is the bonus pool accumulation different for each region, or has my NA account somehow gotten broken?
Hello, I would like to make a video about TSL3, using VoDs and replays if they ever get released, I would like to know if I had the right to use them and what credits I should put in the video, thanks.

I played starcraft 2 in beta. I've just decided to come back to starcraft again, and was trying to poke around for some good solid recent terran replays to inspire me to see how people with some skill are using them. I've looked around, but i haven't seen many "inspiring" replays recently. If someone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.
I've found replays but they are usually quite a bit outdated. Please help me out.
Oh ... if you don't have a link or anything... the names of a few really good terran players would help me get started.
The Terran/Kitty pack has some really good stuff in it for all match ups. and while I've not personally checked, the Lz one it's supposed to be good too.

http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays This is a great site with lots of good replays and you can filter for race/league/map etc. Also I would recommend some replays of Liquid`Jinro, SeleCT and FXOqxc (because I'm biased and those are my fav terran players )
Speaking of workers, I've noticed that scouting probes from the opponent always go through the mineral line, which 1. increases the chance of your opponent trapping your probe and losing it, and 2. doesn't seem to give that much information. Is there a thought process in moving into a bunch of enemy workers, if you can scout the back or mine the minerals from the side?
So i was watching a tournament match the other day and moving my mouse trying to be the observer which made me think would this be possible. Say for instance you are watching a tournament where they release the replay to d/l minutes before so everyone watching could get it ready. Then give a little countdown to when they start, that way the viewers could observe whatever part of the match they like while still listening to the commentary. Do you guys think this could work/ would be something you would want?

Good players move through the mineral line after clicking on a mineral at the other side. This causes the scout to move (min-walk) through any other workers blocking or trying to kill it. They do this just to be distracting or in an attempt to bait a lesser player into pulling their workers to kill the unsurroundable scout and lose mining time.
Newer players don't realize the mineral walking and will just copy by sending their scouts through the line normally, which carries a high risk of them being killed.

The idea has been floated before, It could be fun as a novelty but would probably be too much of a hassle as well as making it far too easy to spoil the game for yourself or others.
Before release it was hoped that bliz would include some feature to allow audio commentary to be added and synced to a replay...but obviously they had more important things to do...
I tried to do an elevator drop today, and I realized that there's probably a much easier way to do it in SC2 than there was in BW, like, with fewer mouse clicks.
I did:
select army, right click dropship, u, click, shift-click back to over the army, select army while ship is coming back, etc
i feel like there's probably a more efficient way to do this since SC2 added a bunch of shit like that, maybe something with shift-queueing the units into the dropship but that didn't seem to work. Am I stuck with this method?

1v1 obs
There are multiple versions. 1v1 obs Xel Naga and 1v1 obs Metalopolis are the most popular. They are like the most played maps so you should see then easily in the custom game interface.
I am new on SC2, and i would like some tips while im streaming my gameplay. I will do live commentary if i feel its necessary with much people tuning in. Im playing protoss.

I agree it would make a good dynamic, like just before Zergling speed kicks in, but the difference there, I believe, is that there is a range upgrade for Marines. There is no such upgrade in StarCraft II and therefore it would be more of an exploit than anything else while in BW you could get the upgrade and be safe(r).

Anyone know what the numbers on the SC2 main menu mean (About xxx players are on bn & xxx games are in your region). Does the number of games include custom games or just only ladder games?
Simple question here. If I want an EU account, can I just buy the normal version on Amazon, then use that key on an account created at eu.battle.net? Or do I have to purchase it online in euros through eu.battle.net?
Hello everyone. I'm an old gamer but new to sc in the last year or so. So addicted but having allot of frustration getting better (I'm lingering around Silver league)........my theory is as a 37 year old gamer i've been lulled into games being "easy" over the years. ie Battletoads to Tony Hawk....one beyond hard & the other u can play with your eyes closed. RTS has won me over but I'd REALLY like to improve my game. I've subscribed to GSL, NASL & MLG to watch the pros & sometimes I think their build only confuse me more (although it's AMAZING TO WATCH).....@CallMeTasteless recently posted a guide from this site that has actually prompted me to wrote this post.
This isn't a rant, and not a plea for help....just posting because I have a feeling there are others like me out there. My main concern is I don't want my skill to plateau to the point of losing interest in SC altogether.....I dig it THAT MUCH. InControl & Tasteosis ALWAYS say u cats are super cool here so I thought I'd try posting.

It has helped me a bit, mostly just for learning the timing in my head. Now I've gotten a better feel of just how long the larvae injects last so I can know when to start going to my bases.
I recently had a lesson with Crescend1, who also has a thread here on TL, and he told me that sometimes my larvae gakking took up to 1 and a half minutes to do -.- fail. it seems this is really what i need to improve on, the notifications dont really help me at all, do you guys have any other tips?
Is there a way to modify the sounds of ingame mechanics like the Zerg "We require more minerals" sound? I want to change it to the clip back when the beta first came out when it was all "WE REQUIA MOAR MINERAWLLLLZZZZZZZZ".

On April 26 2011 05:38 Fawkes wrote: After watching a couple weekends worth of TSL, does anybody else notice that the koreans sometimes don't deal with heavy zealot armies effectively?
As Terran most TvP games for me the factory is nothing more than an expensive scouting unit. The only hard counters to zealots that I can think of would be blue flame hellions. So in a zealot heavy Protoss force the only other way to deal would be to kite wihout getting lolforcefielded. Any other thoughts? Also, I hear some people say tanks counter zealots but... they spalsh your own units and dont really even do that much damage to zealots. I doubt that is the consesus among most players but I was just wondering that others thought about that.
Zealots with charge and armor upgrades seem to counter Mauraders so hard, but these units are like neccessary against Colossus/Stalkers/HTs. When a Terran goes bio, they often have one factory at least still, I wonder if one would have the resources to start producing Helions from it, or even swap a tech lab temporarily to get blue flames.

Without sentries it's really easy to manage, marauders are faster than any unit protoss has, just run, hit, run, hit, zealots will melt. If there are force fields, you are fucked. Consider getting ghosts

Go to battle.net and see if a PTR version is on your account, if not id probably call Blizzard tech support(cause i think youre supposed to)

I think that macro is most difficult with races you aren't familiar with. As a Protoss player, I find Protoss macro to be super easy, Zerg macro to be easy in terms of execution (can hit nearly every inject) but hard in terms of knowing what to build (I played Zerg during beta, and usually use it for offracing), and Terran macro to be nigh-impossible (I've played less than 50 games as Terran in my entire life). I'm guessing that if I'd, say, started out Protoss and moved to Terran I'd find much different results.
what i would do is just to find some pro replays, with stuff that you find cool, or inspires you, and just watch the day9 newbie tuesday " stealing a build " and learn to make it your own. you learn mor than just getting a standard build order..

I'd actually recommend finding a bunch of replays of your favourite, most consistent player and copy them. I'm talking multiple replays of them playing in all matchups and study their timing. Aim to duplicate their builds.
The key here isn't to become a carbon copy of them (though if that works, why not?) but to get a feel for why they make such decisions. Once you have their style down you can branch outwards and study other professional players.
This worked incredibly well for me in my War3 days and turned my worst matchups in to my best. It really forces you to breakdown the matchups in to a fundamental checklist.
Hey guys! So, after reading the changelog of patch 1.3.3 I was wanted to ask you how do u think that the whole Warpgate Technology researching time increase and the unit production time reduction on Gateways, is going the affect the 4-Gate strategy, not only in a PvP matchup and in every possible matchup.

its not about studying many pros styles, in order to say, yeah i can do that. its about getting a feel from one pro that inspired you, and making the build your own, to develop your own style.
So really I'm not sure if this deserves a topic or even should be posted here, but anyway: The replay site www.sc-replay.com is the one i use when posting replays but for some reason I cannot access it anymore on just my PC, i can go on the site on different computers, but just not mine. Is it really impossible for Protoss to spend all their Nexus energy on chrono boost? Early on Day9 would criticize Protoss for not spending their energy, but as time went on that went away as a bit of an extreme way to judge a Protoss player's skill. However I see Protoss in tournaments even MC irc having Nexus with half energy or more
Is it really hard to spend it all when your on multiple bases or are Protoss not good at doing that yet?
No its not impossible. Yes you'd have to be unbelievably good.
Up until 6 minutes in we all know what cb's would be used for. But after that you could theoretically spend your chronoboosts on upgrades, stargate units, robo units, warpgates and probe production.
Omg thank you Thorzain for being so awesome. I've been looking for a solid mech style to use (and copy heheh to learn with) and you've done all this cool stuff! So baller, so handsome. =]
If Huk goes against Idra, he should scout his base with a hallucinated void ray. Personally I think Idra is a phenominal player but his manners are just silly.
HUK IF YOU READ THIS DO IT!
I don't consider this spam also, if you haven't seen the replay it was a great match and you should watch it.
Why do not Blizzard make it so you can start a new game anytime while you are watching a replay and the conditions of the game is equal to the state of the replay at that moment. This would make practice easier and tourney-discs less controversial, I do not see why this isnt implemented? Someone willing to explain the difficulty in doing something like this?

I think the patch notes for 1.3.3 will really improve gameplay, especially in pvz and pvp. Zerg will have to worry a little less about four gate. (although it is still a possibility as it should be) Two gate will now actually be able to do something, as will all of the early gateway units, now lets be honest, Zerg have been getting considerably far ahead early economically because of the lack of POSSIBLE pressure.

hey i was trying to find out why we never see probe all-ins like we do with Terran and Zerg sometimes. just thought it was odd we don't see 4gate all-ins with probes.
Could any one give me some advice on a new player coming to tournaments and or some advice on how to prepare and practice for them. Please and thank you Im also a Zerg and Terran player but still finding our why one to stick to.
1) What exactly qualifies a tournament's to be on liquibet? Why aren't stuff like ipl and mlg on it??? Same question goes for TLPD data because I know they are related.
2)Players on TLPD seem to be split regionally, even if they are the same player. What's stopping us from combining players so that when we click on a player like Ace, we see his iem accomplishments as well as his GSL run all on the same page?
Hey so... ive been wondering... How do Sc2 teams work? Like where do they get their funding? I think TL is supported by TLAF but i never see any other teams really showing off any sponsors. Is the money won at tourneys split up between all of the players or do they keep it all for themselves? are the teams just for practice? Just curious
Hey! I've started a little Newbie guide(by a newbie for the newbies) Called a bronzie's confession. Feel welcome to check it out! Its still work in progress, but I think its fairly decent now.
huu quick question. Does gg even exist anymore. I have been playing some games lately and it seems like i and just a handful of people seem to gg after a game. I gg even when someone cannon rushes me or 6pool because i see it as a mistake that i did not stop it correctly.
ps i new to the site so i am sorry if this is the wrong place for this
Any ideas what to do about party invite spam? I was watching Idra's stream today and people kept spamming him with invites while he was searching for a game. Two problems: (1) accepting the invite to find out the spammer's character code cancels the game search and (2) Idra's block list is full so it doesn't matter. Perhaps after declining an invite 3 times you no longer are able to send an invite to that person? Seems rather silly that such a system isn't already in place.

ok now this may sound silly. but long story short, my GF's nemesis ran me over with her car. i have a broken right hand (dominate hand), and 2 fingers(cast almost up 2 elbow), and sprained knee. heres where the starcraft part comes in. i dont want to not play until the cast is off, thatd be terrible, id loss what little skill i have lol. heres my question(s): whats the best way to still play, and practice? is feeding resources and/or units to teamate's effective at low level play? should i use mouse with my 2 fingers on my right hand i can move? or should i just play like hell with keyboard and use mouse as little as possible(or touchpad on laptop) with my left hand?, and when my cast is off ill be faster, stronger(starcraft wise).
thank you, sorry that was an essay, i appreciate any feedback, that took me 20 minutes to type lol. Sincerely, your friendly starcraft 2 gimp ~(x_x)>

I had a similar injury once and after a bit of practice I could do alright with just my ring and little finger. That was in BW so in SC2 you should be ok (macro with keyboard only).
Would anyone be interested in watching a stream as I progress from silver to masters? I plan on putting in about 6 hours a day worth of ladder games/replay watching and I would totally stream it for people to watch if they'd like me to. I don't expect a huge number of people, but at least some token interest would make taking the plunge a little less nerve-wracking.

I read in numerous different books (Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers comes first to my mind) that to really become a master at any given activity, a person simply needs to spend 10,000 hours at it. How many hours do you think various SC2 pros have sunk into the game? I think Idra has 10k hours because he spent 3 yrs in Korea, of which at least 2 were hardcore gaming: 12 hrs *730 days = 8760 hrs, + all his experience since he came back/ playing in various tournaments.

The common price in Switzerland is 90 CHF, which is 71.4€ or 102.6$!!! This is outrageous. The extreme highness of the swiss franc nowadays partly explains it though. A year ago, 90 francs were 75$

Changing the resolution in the graphics menu should do it. Maybe you just didn't crank it down far enough? It's got it be pretty close to 800x600, or whatever the minimum is, for the hotkeys to reach all the way across the bottom if that's what you're looking for.

It is your resolution, so either you're playing in fullscreen windowed mode, or you have your settings file set to readonly and aren't actually changing the resolution.
So, does anybody else feel that Blizzard should fix the graphic bug where there seems to be a trade of textures, most commonly with the ground, and you see some weird texture instead of what it should be like. This has been around since beta, and it's weird that Blizz hasn't fixed it yet. And it seems like the client is somehow more unstable since last 1.3? Crashes more then normally. :/

Can I just buy a Korean copy of SC2 and play on the Korean ladder, or do I have to have a Korean SSN or something? Will there be a [May] SC2 General Discussion?
Is there no NASL today? Their schedule says they are supposed to broadcast on Tuesdays. Unless I'm mistaken and they've changed it without changing their images in the daily NASL threads.

I have no clue why, but a quick look on their site reveals that the next matches will be on Wednesday at the same time. The whole schedule isn't completely consistent, as I remember the first week I was completely pumped to watch some NASL on Friday but they didn't show anything that Friday.

Roach infestor works surprisingly well. Fungal, NP, and roach speedling for cleanup. Make sure to upgrade consistently and tech to broodlords/ultrabane, which rolls terran. I can't be quite sure about this, but I've seen it roll mech in some cases. A lot of it is execution.

Mechanics Q: I'm been playing around with a ghostmech build in TvZ (low diamond, tank hellion ghost) using snipe and cloak to clear out mutas, broodlords, ultras, infestors etc. I've been having lots of success with it, but I was wondering if there was a more effective way to spam snipe. I've been pushing "R" and then clicking on the target repeatedly, but after a few I tend to end up selecting the targets. I've tried pushing "R" and holding shift, then clicking, but the ghosts get confused or something after a few snipes and just start moving to the target. I realize snipe has a short cooldown, but I'm usually using 8-12 ghosts and there should be continuous snipes with most of them with high energy. Is there an effective way to do this?

Do you think the Notifications for when Chrono boosts, Spawn larvae, and Mules end help anyone? As a zerg player, I rarely ever notice the notifications and I'm trying to make it a habit to look for when my larvae pop. Do the notifications help you guys at all?
It has helped me a bit, mostly just for learning the timing in my head. Now I've gotten a better feel of just how long the larvae injects last so I can know when to start going to my bases.
I play zerg and those notifications are just boss-like. They help me so much injecting larvae constantly without having my queens rack up energy.

What do you think of this idea?
A LAN interface must be maintained by Blizzard. I rather like them to put all their effort into Battle.Net.
A LAN interface can split community to different patch versions. Tournaments would probably decide to not update the client when a new patch comes out during the tournament.
LAN would allow pirate servers. This means less players in Battle.net and therefore longer and less accurate match making.

Nydus Networks used energy to create nydus worms, instead of paying money
The game would probably gets harder to balance since you can EMP the network and you could not cast many worms in short sequence.
Please check out this showmatch initiative for bronze through diamond players.
Essentially, I'll match you up against someone with equal skill, you will play a BO7 showmatch, do a winning interview, and then get $10! If you are entertaining, I'll ask you to come back for more. If this gets enough attention, I'll be able to do more with it (Intros/Promos/Artwork, etc). For now, it's just a chance for you to win some cash playing the game you love, and have your friends watch you do it!
Hey, I'm a plat Terran and usually go with a really standard 2 rax FE build. A lot of people say to pressure once you get 2 marauders/1marine. I was kinda curious on what kind of microing you would do? How far is too far? Do you just want to kill of the blocking zealot (in TVP)? Or is the "pressure" more like massing enough to stop a possible expo. Any replays would be nice too. Thx.
I am looking for that one video from the GSL on youtube, where are many clips of Tastosis reading these funny usernames who ask questions to the players (like "Poopfeast123" and such) :D :D
What if there was a new unit that had an ability to create a hallucination of itself? And when it creates the hallucination, the real unit becomes cloaked. When the hallucination dies or when the real unit gets attacked, the hallucination stops and the real unit becomes uncloaked. Wouldn't that be cooool?
okay. so .. stupid question maybe... I saw losira against alicia and today inca vs nestea.. so its certain that its almost impossible to hold a 3 gate sentry heavy exp now. also, it seems that its really hard to punish a zerg for no lair tech with dts either since spores are there and they are even better now.. ofcourse dt expand could work but it looks like a very fragile build to burrowed roach ling (with a great econ behind it) attack. i can only think of stargate openings being good now but that is micro intensive i think and makes macro harder and besides hydra creep timing push is almost always a death that follows. i was wondering what is the most standard way to do stuff now? im just high -diamond so a noob and most probably i can still get away with 3 gate sentry with some decent ffs but im being curious. thanks
Ok, I'm not going to whine but please tell me how Protoss should be played after the new patch. I'm honestly clueless now, and I guess Inca too... He got stomped hard today. -.-
The calendar on the right has all the times http://www.teamliquid.net/calendar/2011/05/ Everything is in Korean time though, so the TSL Finals are listed on Monday even though they are played on Sunday everywhere else
Is the "Luxury" in the Korean GM league the real Luxury? I'm doubting it because I understand that the match fixing people were banned from GSL and that would make getting really good at SC2 in Korea almost useless. Also I think he was more going by "Practice" at the end of his career but I could be wrong about that.
The only reason I'm thinking it could be him is because of his sick win rate and the fact that he was a total boss.
on the last sotg kennigit brought up that his first thread on TL was closed by incontrol. is there a still link to it somewhere or do closed threads get auto-deleted eventually?
do you guys think SlayerS will take GSTL again?? As i wasn't able to watch the first GSTL but from what ppl have told me that they have players that snipe out races and this is how they took the first one.
Quick question: When scoot and shooting, if a unit's weapon is on cooldown, will it continue moving after being issued A-move and stop when it's weapon is free to fire?

No, you must gauge the time between attacks in order to scoot and shoot to full effect,
can anyone tell me how i can move replays ive downloaded from sites like sc2replayed into my sc2 replay folder in the game so i can access them without quitting and reloading sc2?
Anyone know why people keep leaving games instantly? I would assume some sort of ladder abuse or they are trying to get into Bronze league and work up from the bottom? Played about 10 games and 4 of them I won just because they left right away, one of them said, "Happy free points day" (silver league)

a mate of mine started doing something similar. He had been inactive from some time and wanted to start from scratch.
Also some people want to drop down to farm avatars

You're replay folder is located in your documents folder, would look something like this:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\StarCraft II\Replays
Save the replays there and you can acces them within the game client.

This isn't accurate for every individual, but by default a SC2 folder is created in the "My Documents" library. Find that folder and then proceed to "Accounts" where you should see a folder named with an account number, inside that will be another folder, and inside that will be a "Replays" folder. The game automatically saves the replays from your ladder games within the "Multiplayer" folder.
To make more sense of it, this is the full pathname for my SCII replay folder: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\516036\1-S2-1-306694\Replays\Multiplayer
all I do is face masters on ladder (top #20 diamond in the world, still diamond..), yet I'm not even getting promoted. I would also constantly win against these masters, with most of them being straight up fights. Then I start facing top 25 masters and all they do is all-in and do builds I have no idea how to counter. For example, I just got marine-hellion-banshee alli'nd, then got zvz allin'd where he rushed lair and spammed contaminate, got 2base all-in'd by a P, etc.
How am I supposed to know what the fuck is going on? Scouting both P and T is impossible early game, the only thing I can do is go fast lair but then sacrifice producing drones and any chance of holding off super early pressure. And even with scouting, I don't know how to counter these builds in the first place.
Also my ratio against masters is ruined because I've been losing so much. I had no problem beating lower level Masters but I seriously have no clue how to beat most top 25. Every time I get on a losing streak against these Master Players I'm back to facing diamond. I beat every single Diamond, and then I'm back to facing top 25.
^ there is pretty significant overlap between leagues. Additionally, all the divisions (ie groups of 100) in each league are not eqaul. Being at the top of the lowest division can still be a worse player than the bottom of the top division, so the 'Top 25 Masters' is kind of irrelevant. Just know that you're obviously in the grey area between leagues, and given time u will be promoted. More info: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=195273
As for why you're losing, maybe posting a replay for discussion in the strat forum would help, or analyzing your replays using the guide there.
Anyway, my question: when a player is lagging and the 'Waiting for players' overlay shows, what the hell is the 'Vote' column beside their name?
