Hi everyone,
In this post I will try to summarize features, requests and updates for:
Sc2 Replay Monkey (Portable), Google code page
which is a starcraft II replay organizer tool. Current version: v1.2.0 Run TheOmniscientChimp.exe to be up to date
26/04/11: Important: if you were already using SC2 Replay Monkey prior to v1.1.0 I strongly recommand downloading the latest version that contains bugfixes and will update itself in the future.
If it crashes when you try to load replays through the "ADD FILES" button, you're missing VC++ 2010 redist.
You will need The Framework .Net 4.0 as well to run this application.
Terran skin (NEW):
Zerg skin:
It parses replay data based on SC2 Parser Ape which is itself based on phpsc2replay. Sc2 Parser Ape was also done by me. Icon was made by Arcanoss.
Its main purpose is NOT to display exhaustive information on the game, but to help the user quickly sort, move and watch replays.
Version Notes: - From v1.0 on, Phalanger is no longer required to run this application. - An automatic installer is now also available. Manual installation will alway be available as well. - v1.0.1 will not have an automatic installer. - v1.1.0 is the first version with an auto-updater. - v1.1.0 contains several fixes for 64 bit users, thanks to polysciguy for his testing on this part. - v1.2.0 has a new skin available: Terran.
Features : - Fast display - replays get only parsed once. - Displays all the basic information (realm, players names, races, APM ...). - Allow for easy relocation (to your starcraft II replay folder for example). - Displays APM graph. (New in v0.0.0.4b) - Diplays player's builds (next to their APM graphs). (New in v1.0.1 !) - Allow users to add comments on each replay (New in v1.1.0!) - A big renaming ability has been added, with lots of possibilities (New in v1.1.0!) - An auto-updater/loader will automatically notify you of new versions if you run TheOmniscientChimp.exe instead of Sc2ReplayMonkey.exe, the former will also automatically start the latter once the update is done (if there is one). (New in v1.1.0!) - A new skin is available: Terran (New in v1.2.0!)
Other Notes: You can load several replays using the "ADD FILES" button, they will get parsed and the data will be written in XML format. Once that is done, a list of available replays will be displayed on the right side of the app, and selecting one will display information about it.
You can then decide to watch it, relocate it, rename it, or delete it.
The OPTIONS button can help you simplify most tasks by automating them.
In the future, I will add key features such as : - Allowing user to comment on a replay, and that comment will be shown in the chatlog of the game (also when you watch it) - Allowing user to edit the chatlog, I think it could help people to make tutorial games: you play it using a style you want to teatch, and after the game you comment key moments in the chatlog so that you can explain stuff to the viewer. - Display APM and events (already have all the data, just hasn't been implemented yet). You won't need to parse the replays again for this to work. - Allowing user to sort a batch of replays based on: - Units used - Strategies employed (bunker rushes, etc) - etc
I am also open to ideas, if you want a feature to be implemented, state it in the comments below. I will see if it can be done.
On the "design" level, I made an architecture that allows for easy skinning. Right now only the zerg skin is done, and even that one need some rework. Last skin to do is Protoss.
Also, I might release a custom skin tool, with which you'll be able to make a skin yourself, and share it with other users. That is not for the near future though.
If you find any bug or inconsistency, please report on the comments below, or better: on the official google code page.
You can download this software Here
As stated on the official google code page, you will need to install Phalanger first.

|
Looks interesting, will give it a shot later.
|
Bump, need more beta testers :p
|
Someone reported to me that there was an error in the earlier release.
It is fixed in Beta v0.0.0.3
|
New version Beta v0.0.0.4.
Added APM graphs, cleaned the application's folder.
Original post reworked.
|
New version v1.0.
Phalanger is no longer required for the application to run.
Next thing on the TODO list: replay renaming, and the possibility to comment on each replay (you can finally flag the replay where you owned Huk !).
|
font and background are ugly
|
As for the font, I will probably change it, probably to Calibri. But for the background, if you don't like it, you'll have to wait for another skin to come out :p (Zerg ftw!)
|
|
You just unzip it to the folder you want.
I just added a version with an install wizzard, usual stuff: - Adds startmenu + desktop shortcuts. - Adds an uninstall entry.
The manual install will also always be available.
OP Updated.
EDIT: if a forum moderator could please rename the title of this thread from "analyzer" to "organizer" I'd very much appreciate it =)
|
its not working for me, i am starting the program, hitting add file, and choosing a file, but it isn't loading the file
|
Doesn't the file you just added show up on the right panel?
Basically you should see a window telling you to wait until the replays are parsed, and once it's gone, the replays you added should show up on the right panel.
Which version are you using? the installer one or the manual one?
Numerous people tried it and it worked, so something is missing from your computer, we need to find what it is, and I'll fix it asap.
|
installer version no they don't show up im not even getting the window saying wait do i need SC2 open?
|
installed the apewriter.exe, now im getting the please wait, but the apewriter is crashing
|
Are you using the latest version? (v1.0)
You don't need SC2 running, you don't even need it installed actually (only to use the "WATCH" button).
And what do you mean when you say you installed "TheApeWriter.exe" ?
The folder where you "installed" it should look like this:
Config.xml, AvailableReplays.xml, SC2_Replay_Monkey.ico and the "Replays Parsed" folder can be missing , they will get generated later on. The rest should be here.
|
all the files are there, its saying " theapetest has stopped working"

Alright, do this:
Go to the folder where you installed Sc2 Replay Monkey. Do the combination "SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK" on that folder. In the menu that appears, select "Open a command line here".
In that command line you type this: TheApeWriter.exe -rp:"A_REPLAY_PATH"
Don't forget the "", and of course put a valid replay path.
Since your trouble comes from here, this should crash but it will display tons of information and it's very readable for me.
The only thing I could get from what you said i that you're missing a file (thank you MS !). And last but not least, "TheApeTest" should not exist anymore (oO).
EDIT: I think it means you don't have mscorlib, but the test i described should tell us.
|
how do i put in a valid replay path?
|
it says: C:\Program Files (x86)\SC2 Replay Monkey>TheApeWriter.exe -rp:"C:\Users\NickHead y\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\2199760\1-S2-1-321113\Replays\Multiplayer\loss _v_socrates.SC2Replay

I'm gonna go take a look at the code, but it should be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SC2 Replay Monkey>TheApeWriter.exe -rp:"C:\Users\NickHead y\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\2199760\1-S2-1-321113\Replays\Multiplayer\loss _v_socrates.SC2Replay"
In my code, the reasons why you'd have this error, is if: - the replay path you inputed is empty - the file does not exist
I suggest you do the same thing, but this time you copy/paste the path to your replay from windows explorer, just to be sure that the path is correct.
PS: are you on IRC?
|
no im not on irc, let me try a different file
C:\Program Files (x86)\SC2 Replay Monkey>TheApeWriter.exe -rp:"C:\Users\NickHead y\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\2199760\1-S2-1-321113\Replays\Multiplayer\terr an\win_v_swift2.SC2Replay"

You must miss a key somewhere, because I'm pretty sure your problem is that your version of Framework.Net 4.0 is outdated/corrupted. (mscorlib is made by Microsoft, not me ^^)
|
Alright so I made something I should have done earlier: the parser now generates a log file.
Just go get the latest version (v1.0.1) and unzip it in any folder, then run Sc2ReplayMonkey.exe
1) Does it still crash when you "add files" ? 2) If it does, send me the log, or copy/paste it here.
Also, you will now see the player's builds next to their APM graphs. OP updated.
As a side note, I will not make an automatic installer for this version, I'm trying to find one with a better look&feel.

AH! finally =)
Easy solution, you're missing php4ts.dll.
Download the latest version (v1.0.1) and unzip it to your installation folder, overwrite the files there.
You're set =)

downloaded it and still getting problem Welcome to SC2ParserApe's XML generator You may use the following arguments: -replayPathATH_OF_YOUR_REPLAY (alias: -rp -outputPath:OUTPUT_PATH_FOR_THE_XML (alias: -op

1) is the file in your folder? (php4ts.dll) 2) if it is, are you running a 64bit windows?
|
|
Replace TheApeWriter.exe in your folder with this one:
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/10122284ed_0.01MB
Even if you run a 64bit windows, it should run it as 32bit.
This is because TheApeWriter.exe uses Phalanger to run, and Phalanger doesn't support 64bit.
If this solves your problem, I'll integrate it in the next version.
|
I'm running 64 bit windows and it seems to run fine for me.
But the window size is too big. On my monitor the bottom gets cut off, and I can't resize the window. (res is 1366x768)
|
|
|
|
except now it is saying i don't have the proper version of starcraft installed
|
I'm really sorry you ran into all this trouble, and I thank you very much for your patience!
I'm gonna make sure people know about this in the future =)
|
make the font and background something simple and usable and i'd probably think about giving it a try
|
I'm definitely going to try it out, thank you very much!
|
@polysciguy you can't watch a replay if you don't have the version the replay was played in installed as far as I know.
|
it is installed though, this is the same comp that i played the game on
|
@Stickmatrix I understand lots of people don't like the zerg skin, it is quite an unusual look&feel for an application.
However I decided I'd keep it the way it is, with few to no changes. The next skin will be a lot more classic, it will be the terran skin.
+ Show Spoiler +It will be white-ish metallic, with black text and Colibri font
Skins are available to the SKINS button at to top right corner. (Currently only zerg is available).
I'm already discussing it with a friend of mine who masters Photoshop better than I do (Arcanoss, the guy who did the icon). We should be creating it next week end, so it will be available in about 10 days.
@polysciguy and if you double click it Starcraft II launches it? Ooooh I know, it's because of the (x86) in front of the folder name. I'll look into it.
|
On April 22 2011 05:23 polysciguy wrote: it is installed though, this is the same comp that i played the game on
Can I get a hold of you in IRC sometime today or tomorrow? I want to fix this before next release which will soon be ready.
|
sorry, i haven't been on to reply, my internet went down for 3 days for some reason. you can catch me later tonight, figure around 8central. also a suggestion, perhaps implementing a sorting feature by date or allowing the creation of folders to put the replays in in the replay bank thing.
|
The latest version will soon be out (tomorrow evening probably), I haven't been idling the last few days :p
There will be an auto-updater fully customized, and two new features:
- (Auto)Renaming of replays. - You can add comments on replays.
I've also corrected the bug you had polysciguy, right now it's a quick fix that will allow you to watch the replay even if the right SC2 version is not detected (through the options menu).
I've also modified the code architecture a bit, to be ready for the next big update which will handle lots of different sortings (by date, by players, by realm, by comment, by build order... etc).
And I'm getting ready to make the final model of the replay bank list, which won't display the path to the file anymore, but who's playing against who, on which races, plus the date and the name of the replay. As an addition to that, you will see the comments you added by just hovering your mouse on the available replays.
also a suggestion, perhaps implementing a sorting feature by date or allowing the creation of folders to put the replays in in the replay bank thing. That's already available through the relocate button and the options menu, however I will make something simpler and faster to use in the future.
|
so do you not need to talk to me anymore?
|
Yes, I'm on IRC.
I don't like dirty fixes =o
|
Ok so I met polysciguy on IRC and made a clean fix for 64bit users. It will be available in next version.
|
After a few days spent mostly working on this project, the v1.1.0 is out.
I strongly recommand updating to this new version as it contains bugfixes, new exciting features and an autoupdater that will do that job for you in the future =).
OP updated.
GL&HF,
FatalBaboon.
|
Some bugs were reported and I made a Patch, current version is v1.1.1, and is obtainable through the auto-updater.
Please run TheOmniscientChimp.exe once to be up to date.
If you are a new user, download v1.1.0 and run the auto-updater prior to first use.
|
More bugfixes and slight cosmetic changes, v1.1.2 is the new stable version, it is available through the autoupdater (please run TheOmniscientChimp.exe)
You can now see the version you're running on the title of the app.
If you are a new user, download v1.1.0 and run the auto-updater prior to first use.
|
well, this program doesnt work. i select replay paths and load files and it doesnt show nothing.
|
You're probably missing VC++ 2010
And after that, please run TheOmniscientChimp.exe to update, 1.1.0 has serious bugs.
|
I'm getting the same thing, even after installing VC++ 2010 and running omniscientchimp
|
1) Are you sure you have the Framework .Net4.0?
2) Once the replays are parsed, you have to select one in the list on the right to display the information. Do you see the list getting filled after you parsed? (Parsing is done by clicking the ADD FILES button).
|
*bump*
I will probably design also a better loader, cause this one is just fake boobs.
|
Lol @ Arcanoss criticizing his own work xD
|
First, i really like you programm! Great work out there, thank you for doing this for the community;)
I have an error, where the list doesn´t fill after clicking the add files- bottom and parsing.
When i choose one replay or more, the list only lists one replay. I can´t parse another then. I have the newest version and Windows 7 64bit.
Also, can you change the chatlog yet? Am waiting for this feature:D
Thank you and good luck with bringing this programm through the bugphase;)
greetings, Panda
Ps:: I like the style.
|
Hello Panda =)
Thank you for your feedback! I'm really interested in solving your issue, and here is how we're gonna proceed: a log file is generated upon parsing, it is rather verbose and it should help me pinpoint your issue.
Please send it to me, it is called: parseApeLog.txt and should be in your installation folder.
About the log remodelling feature, it is next on my todo list, right after I made the new Terran skin with Arcanoss (we start tonight).
The initial "bugphase" is over as far as I'm concerned, but bugs happen and I provide patches as soon as they are noticed through the auto-updater. Although, for that to happen, I need people like you who tell me about them
GL&HF,
FatalBaboon.
PS: for new users, don't forget to update by running "TheOmniscientChimp.exe" !!
|
Oooh excited to try this tonight. I just started saving my replays and would love something like this. Thanks!
|
I found the bug by chance :p
It comes from replays whose chatlog has been remade, because there's a library out there that does something dirty and I didn't plan for such a scenario.
I've also corrected a bug that happens because of that, but could potentially happen for some other reason, regarding multiple replay loading through "ADD FILES" (and I think 64bit is one of those reasons).
Anyway, it's fixed, and available through the auto-updater, current version is v1.1.3 Please update.
OP updated in a minute
GL&HF,
FB.
EDIT : Fixed the fix a few minutes later, current version is v1.1.4.
|
After having the newest version, it is working perfectly!
thank you very much and GLHF!
Panda
|
v1.1.5 up (this build actually works after update from 1.1.0, not like v1.1.4) + better loader soon
|
v1.2.0 is under developpment, but the terran skin is taking longer than expected to do. So it's gonna take another few days to be out.
If you have any feature request don't forget to let me know
|
I don't understand how to comment on the replay.
|
@dissimulation: I'm gonna assume you have the latest version running (v1.1.5), if not use the autoupdater (TheOmniscientChimp.exe).
Then, to add a comment to a replay, select one from your list on the right, then add the comment on the box at the bottom and click "SAVE". That's it.
However the {Comment} special tag in the renaming feature is broken in v1.1.5, it is fixed in 1.2.0 that should be out tonight or tomorrow during the day.
Did I answer your question?
|
I've been working on details for the Terran skin, and I relooked slightly the Zerg skin as well.
Arcanoss should be putting the final touch on the Terran background, while I track bugs and design flaws.
Terran skin info: + Show Spoiler +The Terran skin is written in black with Calibri font, over a bright metallic background. Also, some minor bug fixes have been done, for example the {Comment} keyword for the renaming tool now works properly
The update should be ready via auto-update within the next 24 hours. A v1.2.0 package will be up too for new users.
|
The new version is finally out, the background is not at its final stage yet but everything else is ready.
Current version is v1.2.0, the new version is available through the auto-updater (TheOmniscientChimp.Exe) or as a package for new users on the google code page and on the first post of this thread.
This version brings a new skin: Terran as well as a few UI improvements and minor bug fixes.
Please post some feedback =)
GL&HF,
FatalBaboon.
|
weird, Even though i updated to 1.1.5 I don't have that little comment bar.

@dissimulation: get a fresh v1.2.0 on the main post and it should be fine. It just got out =)

I figured out what my problem was, My res was too low to see the entire screen, Is there any chance that you can add an option to make it so you can scroll up and down ect.?
|
Yeah sure I can add that.

Sorry to be reviving this if it shouldn't be revived, but I was wondering if this can be made to detect what patch version a replay is from. This would be useful because say for example (which will be exaggerated to show effect): Colossus can now be warped in from a gateway and costs 150/150/3 and comes with Thermal Lance upgraded. Now every toss will pretty much ignore stalkers and get early colossi. This would radically change all protoss openers and make looking at previous patches toss replays useless because of this large change. So yea tl;dr make this detect patch version? yes? no?

I'm not sure i understand you, don't you mean game version? that is already displayed.
|
I probably don't have all things installed, since in 1.2.0 version I can't add replays.. Just doesn't appear in list.

Take a look at the start of the OP, you need VC++ redist and the Framework.NET 4.
Both are linked on first post, and on the google code page.
