It's nothing new, it's not a loophole or legal workaround, it's just another way you can tinker with the files to get yourself banned...and Americans evidently can't do it.

Just because you are not modifying any MPQ files directly, you are still changing the game with its content by exploiting the behavior of Blizzards MPQ library. I phoned into tech support, and they're said, that changes are bannable only, if they give you advatange in multiplayer You will get banned for this. Who's banned for that? I saw only bans for using things, that gives advatange.

Now for my next question: I heard some people could only get this working with euro client. Anyone got it to work with the na client?

If you use a tool to create a new MPQ in the libertymulti directory with the name "base.SC2Assets" you can still override the files from the liberty "base.SC2Assets". I just used ladik's mpq editor to test this. Confirmed this, both the inability to read a folder and the fix with a MPQ file. It seems however that StarCraft is very picky about certain files when overriding like this (music is quite the work to get in).
