Please read my thread before commenting it shows why I don't like the liquipedia definition of cheese
I will also describe the beginning of some gsl games from the past but never the outcome
I want to know what you consider cheese to by and why. I'm also going to provide several situations that I believe would be called cheese by some but not by all.
Personally I used to define cheese as " an early game tactic that if not scouted in time will give the aggressor a huge advantage but if it scouted in time will severely hurt them"
Does cheese have to be aggression?
I changed my definition when saw MKP take the gold by lifting off on metalopolis at the start of one of his games versus OGSmc. Would this be defined as an economic cheese? If mc had of scouted this early then he could have easily punished MKP.
Proxies, Does cheese have to be all-in?
Certain people consider anything thats a proxy to be cheese but I don't like this deffinition either because I generally saw cheese strategies as "All in" and I know many people still do
For example in gsl3 ogsmc vs Jinro one proxy gateway in the natural on blistering sands it wasn't "all in" by any means and wasn't likely to end the game.
Would Hoseo san's proxy stargate into phoenix harass in the last gsl be considered a cheese? It was never going to end the game but it gave him a huge advantage.
One base pushes, Does cheese have to be easily stoppable if scouted?
Some people consider the 4 gate to be a cheese in PvT and PvZ while many others don't. They argue that when its scouted it can be easily stopped and the all in will leave you at a significant disadvantage.
This begs the question of whether or not thor rushes are to be considered a cheese because even when they are scouted they aren't always easy to stop even when you try to prepare for them.
Should a 7 roach rush be considered a cheese? It leaves the zergs economy in a poor shape but it by no means unrecoverable and zergs often expand behind it. Even if the rush is scouted it can still do enough damage to keep the zerg player in the game.
"An early game tactic that if not scouted in time will give the aggressor a huge advantage but if it scouted in time will be easily defended. This tactic is intended to quickly defeat or cripple and opponent" is my current definition.
With this defintion you could consider almost all of the above examples to be "cheesy".
Two points I want to make
- I don't think cheese is bad
- Based upon the variety of responses given is this thread I don't think there will ever be a good consensus its just not going to be a concrete term.

Only one of those topics is even talking about whether something is cheese and its a VERY VERY specific situation.

If I seem bitter, it's because I love Starcraft 2, even though I suck at it.
