MLG Metalopolis MLG Shakuras Plateau MLG Shattered Temple MLG Tal’darim Altar MLG Testbug MLG Typhon Peaks MLG Xel’Naga Caverns
Changes from the previous version of the map pool:
- MLG Crossfire has been removed - MLG Scrap Station has been removed - MLG Tal’darim Altar has been added - MLG Typhon Peaks has been added
- Building Blockers have been replaced with Neutral Lowered Supply Depots on all Maps On MLG Typhon Peaks, Neutral Lowered Supply Depots have been added to the bottom of base ramps
- MLG Shakuras Plateau has been updated to Blizzard version 1.5, and spawn locations will be identical to those allowed by Blizzard.
- MLG Shattered Temple has been updated to Blizzard version 1.3. There are still no close spawns allowed.
The following modifications were made to MLG Testbug:
- Bases enlarged for more building space - Added doodads in front of the Natural choke to tighten the area around rocks - Replaced gaps in the middle with high ground
- The MLG map pool on Battle.net has been updated; to access this map pool, including the non-ladder maps, simply search for "MLG" on the StarCraft 2 map selection screen.

great to see scrap station removed. I think no race really likes it.
Personaly iam also glad they removed Crossfire. I was never a big fan of the map and tried to understand what everybody likes about it. Taldarim is a must have and Typhon Peaks is not the best but okay in my opinion.
Good seeing the mappool updated throughout the season.
i like the maps added and removed, but i still hate the restricted spawn locations. hate me if you will. i think blizzard has it the way it should be.

good map pool overall. does MLG Shakuras Plateau have back door rocks or no rocks though (nm just going to assume version 1.5 is the latest Shakuras version)?
Very good selection in my opinion! I'm especially glad they removed Crossfire, as it's my least favourite in the lot.
Glad to see Crossfire removed.
Nice adjustments. Gl at MLG all.
Thanks slasher

I don't quite understand the change from building blockers to neutral Supply Depots. Can someone more knowledgable than I explain the reasoning? D:

Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the primary reason is because neutral Supply Depots are visible to players and spectators, whereas building blockers are invisible and therefore may be more confusing to fans and players alike.
to bad that no additional iCCup or even GSL maps are added.. so many Blizzard maps in the pool :/
Very nice map pool, nicely modified as well.
I think its also really great they adjust and improve map pool between events and give players at least a month to prepare for it.
i hope they prevent vertical positions on typhon, if not its going to be the same 2 base push from terran in tvz just like the old shakuras
love the map pool! great job by MLG. but i hate that you automatically know where someone spawns on certain maps. really ruins a lot of the game.

Visual feedback and the possibility of walling the bottom of your ramp and such later on in the game if the need ever arises.
Looking good, but Typhon ehh

one of the main issues is with building blockers the players do not have the choice of removing them if they wish to wall off the bottom of their own ramp as a terran player does sometimes. With a supply depot they still have this option open to them.

Everyone I talk to says they're probably going to use their veto on Typhon.
Good changes overall, I'd say.

As they have said it is the one blizzrad uses (so no rocks that lead to mains).
Great too hear! Updated shakuras is awesome, I am super super pumped for taldarim! And no scrap station? awesome! Good too hear MLG and hopefully this MLG will be a lot smoother ^_^
I love the changes! Typhon peaks can feel annoying at times but that is becuase it is a map that needs to be played differently than most maps. Control of the area above the 3rds is critical so that banshees, mutas, or any other ranged unit doesn't mess with your drones. Hidden bases are also very strong because if the enemy attacks them, one can counter to their main.
good lookin. Not sure how I feel about Typhon... that seems to be the consensus here though. One bad map is of course not an issue thanks to any kind of veto system.
Terminus RE > Typhon, rest are cool
Why do people not like Typhon? I guess compared to the other maps it isn't as good, but it isn't awful is it?
Can you please post the account names that host the official MLG maps on battlenet so we can know which ones are genuine and updated?
On May 03 2011 05:07 Oreo7 wrote: Terminus RE > Typhon, rest are cool
Yeah but reapers are not viable on that map (no cliffs) and the rotational symetry is too prominant. There are probably a few other imbalances I don't know about too.
did people dislike crossfire? i always thought it was a decent map. i've always thought typhon is a decent map too though so good changes overall
i can't find where to download the maps, link me?
- MLG Shakuras Plateau has been updated to Blizzard version 1.5, and spawn locations will be identical to those allowed by Blizzard.
Thanks god no more easy 3 bases turtle non sens against zerg Cruncher like so much.
Finally some love for Typhon :3
I was waiting for tournaments to start removing Scrap, it's such a horrible map. Now it's just Xel'Naga Caverns that needs to go and most tournaments should be set.
Good riddance to SS, horrible map. Hopefully XNC is next to go! Good progress on the map front, good to see.
Does anybody know which version of Tal`darim altar they're using to base it on? My main question is does the map have rocks at the 3rd?
Everything seems great besides the inclusion of Typhon. Glad to see MLG listening to feedback.
Amazing changes. Great job MLG.

YEEEEEEEEEEESS Typhon Peaks!
Map is too awesome to not be used in competitive. Maybe the tileset is horrible, but the architeture is awesome.
Nice one MLG. Also updating shakuras.
Can anyone spell out what it is that people don't like about Typhon? Besides that it's ugly?

The forcing cross-spawn is from the notes of the MLG Dallas map pool. Notes for MLG Columbus say that this has been reverted with the change to the newest version of Shakuras Plateau.
EDIT: Slasher beat me to the punch.

Good, removing Crossfire is the most important change for sure.
On May 03 2011 05:28 imJealous wrote: Can anyone spell out what it is that people don't like about Typhon? Besides that it's ugly?
Some people believe that the map has too small chokes and too many paths to the natural, when in fact each quarter of the map is no different to a half of Xel'Naga Caverns.
Oh, that is fucking sex.
MLG, you guys are champions.
I loved Crossfire, watching games on it was always a point of interest. Playing on it... not so much.
Couldn't the building blocker be a tree or something? It will look kind of silly to have a supply depot on every map.
mlg great maps! u really know what we want.

Why is mlg's map pool better than Blizzards?

Also TYPHON? SUP NOW?????????

I'm glad taldarim has been added that's my favorite map to play. Love the macro games.
I'm glad they aren't using Terminus Re. The rotational symmetry on that map looks incredibly unfair unless its cross spawns.
Hopefully MLG keeps making alterations and there is a near perfect map collection by the finals.

If we cannot stream it we will at least get VoD's up :D

Given that MLG chooses maps so that the average game will not run too long, I'm surprised that Tal'darim Altar (even the ladder edition) was chosen.
Meh, i think the depots in all , maps is just holding zergs hands. but its no biggie
Really loving the decision to lose Crossfire and Scrap Station. Each and every change is one for the better, in my opinion! Really looking forward to the next installment from MLG.
Please please please confirm that you're doing bandwidth tests prior to the event.....

TYPHON PEAKS?
Really MLG...?
I also dislike the changes very much, but thats just personal preference more than anything.

Awesome to see crossfire going out as well as scrap station - most certainly smart moves!

If all the maps were that size maybe, but its only one. So I don't think it will cause any problems with time.

Glad to see updates to Testbug, looks like PvZ will be improved with chokes added.

Eh? This map already had *huge* bases. I kinda liked it for PvZ, but not so much anymore
I kind of like Backwater Gulch more than Typhoon Peaks, but it is a nice addition. Always great to see a changing map pool. :3
I'm glad that MLG keeps working to improve their product. Hopefully they don't have any steam issues this time.
Scrap Station needs to get an official burial in all realms of sc2 play.
What the hell do people think is so wrong with typhon? lol. It's a good-sized map with no glaring problems, what's the problem?
Glad to see they removed scrap! (=
All the other changes look solid
Am I the only one that hates Terminus Re? You can turtle on 3 bases practically..
On Topic: I'm happy it's not in the map pool.
Yeah, what exactly do people not like about typhoon?
Don't like how different leagues are making their own mods to the maps as it is probably hard for the players (although giving a little bonus to those who are more adaptive and innovative, aka boxer haha)
Aw, I'll miss Crossfire xD

We will be releasing an announcement shortly detailing everything we are doing to ensure the Columbus stream works as it should.

Pretty much perfect changes, scrap and and crossfire had to be removed ages ago, and tal darim is probably the best map in the pool. typhon...mehh, but the other moves are perfect

I dont understand the hate on Typhon Peaks, I haven't seem it used in a tournament map pool before, and it seems pretty solid, except maybe vertical positions for things like TvZ or something, but even then it's still a lot better than Scrap. I think with the MLG version they might only enforce x-positions? That would be totally fine for any match up to be honest.
I have no complaints about the map pool, great changes. Shout out to JP. Don't know exactly how players feel about Typhon but for me the spectator the games are always awesome and epic. I love it.
GOOD Maps but typhon peaks T_T!!!!!!!!!
Ugh, it's the bad Tal'Darim Altar, still an okay map, but why are there rocks, why why why are there rocks :-(.
Thank god they removed scrap station. Impossible to get 3rd base for zerg --"
Desrow... why you complaining. Typhon peaks so good for protoss. Bad for zvt cause of cliffs for seige tank but yeahhhhhhh sooooo exciting COLUMBUS GOGO!!!
I approve of this change in the map pool.
They really need to rig up some other building blocker doodads... Something visible but that fits better with other tilesets. It's easy to make a doodad that looks like some "pebbles" but uses the footprint of the building blocker. I've done it, it works very well. This would be much preferable to supply depots on a lot of maps.

this would create the issue of not being easily immediate to a player just by looking that it is indeed destructible

I think he's saying the pebbles could be confused as simple unclickable doodads.

Was looking forward to Dual Sight as a new 2 player map, but whatever
I'm not sure this is thread for it, but as people keep asking: I random and I dislike Typhon as Zerg. The multiple paths are not my major concern. Rather, it is divided into many claustrophobic areas. Seeing as zerg units often work best when flanking, and seeing as, imo, zerg units need lots of babysitting to prepare for a fight, the small areas and tight chokes require extra micro. I always try to flank from just off of the center of the map opposite the opponents location. But even in the middle of the map, in comparison to Shattered Temple, the area is tight. Pre-battle unit positioning as zerg always requires quite a bit of multitasking. This map requires more.
I'm not complaining. I don't veto the map. Just giving my 2 cents as so many people have asked about all the hate for this map. In addition to the many tight areas, it is ugly.
Typhon peaks is a great map guys, sto complaining about it.
I think it's time to let Scrap Station die. That map is old as fuck now. It was the first map ever to be seen in SC2. ( remember the Battles Reports )
Thumbs down on the Typhon Peaks... hopefully it won't be the starting map for many rounds.
The rest of the changes are amazing.

I actually like the look of Crossfire, what is the "imbalance"?
Also, Testbug is an awesome map. I don't like how they brand the maps with "MLG" though, because they havent done anything to them.
I hate how on MLG Xel Naga and Metalopolis you cannot do the 1 Baracks, 1 depot wall at the bottom of your ramp.
I am also sad to see Crossfire go. I think it provides some great games. I realize many Zergs don't like it too much, but I think with proper couter-attacks and using the multiple avenues of attack it can be at least winnable most of the time.

I believe people think they should be clickable and destructible so that if a Toss or Terran wants to kill it and wall off they're own base later in the game, that option is open. This way, early game enemy wall offs (the point of the depots) are prevented, but it doesn't remove other unintended options.
Tal'darim is imo worse than typhon peaks, It is so dependent on spawn positions and it favours some race so much sometimes, having cross posistions TvX is worse than ZvT close metal.
I like the map pool. Great choices but I miss Crevasse though

Nice map changes. MLG just keeps improving, well done.

I don't think so. Zerg was favored in ZvP, but the new updates (adding chokes) should correct this.

NOOOOOOO
Crossfire is my favorite map!
Surprised not to see Xelnaga Fortress in, from what I saw it looks like a really awesome map to play on and to watch as well. Would have been a better option than Typhon I think.
And what is MLG Taldarim? There are like 70 versions of this map.
Also forcing cross spawn on Shakuras would be better even if it's not a huge change.
And no scrap.. is there any tourny that uses this map? About time Blizzard takes it out of the ladder pool.

Seriously, I love you guys for making these changes. All of them (even not quoted) seem to be in the perfect direction for both the players and the observers. Personally, I always find Crossfire games to be overly stressful to watch between all of the pins, splits, pokes, denies, and whatnot. Obviously TDA and TP are great additions (TDA more than TP), and Scrap is getting really old.
Awesome job guys!
