Yeah, i think Duncan and David Robinson used to play BW against each other
Lol say what?! That's cool to see and I had to google since I never knew who he was and that's actually the dude. I'm surprised but not that surprised since he's my age and well its hard at 21 in any lifestyle to stay away from games of some sort, and SC is the best game ever so hard to not play it.

This is pretty cool that a player like this could enjoy the same type of games we do and care enough and be confident enough to stream it for his fans.

Big fan of Hayward and his team at Butler, he had a hell of a team and a run as an individual player. Will definitely tune in frequently, looking forward to seeing his stream.
With his rookie contract, he's making more than 2 million per year for the next few years. Plus, Gordon's actually performing really well on the Jazz (was crucial in a win against the lakers and guarded Kobe), so he could have an even bigger payday in the future.
Cool that he plays Starcraft, and really sick that he's streaming , even though he's only Platinum :-P..

800 grand per year pretty bad
The 9th pick in the NBA draft doesnt only get 800 grand, as someone said earlier he's earning over 2 mill a year..

He's a professional basketball player. He was one of the best basketball players in college when he led Butler deep into the NCAA tournament and just came short of a championship. He got drafted (9th i believe) in the first round and is currently with the Utah Jazz, playing at small forward. He's not just some scrub, he's actually very good. Definitely will be a solid starter in the near future.
This man was 2 inches away from stealing a National Championship from my alma mater. Now I'm just entranced watching him play SC2. That's sick. Celebrities are nerds too!
LOL this is hilarious to watch. If you ever read this Hayward, I owned you in fantasy b-ball for a couple of games. You helped me win a week! THANK YOU!!!

That's the best part. 20k live viewers + live TV, no problem. 1500 live stream viewers, get scared.
Shaq is going to be jealous of his viewer count soon, and start streaming as well. Then after that, he's going to challenge Boxer in the next season of Shaq VS. One can hope....
Lol, this is already in Wikipedia, "Hayward plays the video game 'Starcraft II' and occasionally streams his games and interacts with his fans." Well, for us who have no idea of basketball it was nice to read that
Oh damn this is actually pretty cool :O I hope he continues streaming, his stream is actually quite fun. Streaming quality isn't the greatest but I have seen worse ^^
I'm pretty sure if I were in the NBA and playing 82 games a year I would be silver too, if not worse lol. The fact that anybody in the NBA admits to playing starcraft 2, much less read teamliquid and stream, is so awesome and actually an incredibly positive thing for the community.
Whoever lives in Utah needs to attend home jazz games and make SC2-related signs :D.
Part of the lag actually also is coming from hundreds of people trying to add him and spam messaging him (yes it will lag you even if you are on busy), as he told everyone his character code on stream earlyer.
I don't know if this happened earlier since I just hopped in the thread, but I am pretty sure I just heard "Chill commentate my games. I want to hear you commentate."

lots of professional athletes play online video games, Kurt schilling owns his own game design company. :O :D
In other news, if GTime continues streaming we should name his favorite Terran Strat a Dunk or something. I'm not familiar with Basketball terms, but something Basketbally.

Gilbert Arenas sponsored Final Boss the halo team in MLG for awhile, gave them jerseys and jackets and a contract and shit. Then he got caught with the gun haha
To the people saying GTime should come on Friendday Wednesday, I saw Markyo (one of the D9D Chat Mods) talking about having him on the Daily at some point. That probably won't happen for a while though, as I imagine there are a few more hoops involved with Hayward appearing on any public show. Also not sure if it was the real Markyo or not.

I doubt he'll read FB or TL- but do try twitter. All the community figures are exstatic about it right now
He would probably be interested in getting a perm featured stream if he enjoyed the game more, which oftentimes happens as you get better.
Him getting better would be great - and a quick way to do that would be for Day9 to host him on Wed or Tues and do a coaching session. Since Day9 is our nerdballing ambassador, itd be great!

Actually on his twitter, Thegunrun messages him saying that when he gets home that he will set him up. Plus Chill explained to them that Justin.tv is better.. So I think the next time he streams he will have a lot better quality.
Living in Utah, it's hard not to be a Jazz fan to some degree... especially since all of my friends are ridiculously into basketball. Now I can actually have a favorite player! If I ever get Hayward's autograph, it won't be on a basketball - it'll be my mousepad and copy of Sc2!
If professional athletes start realizing that thousands of people will watch them play video games if they stream it, then the world as we know it will explode
Ok, here's my petition on facebook, please like it!!
Thanks to everyone for watching my stream tonight!!! I definitely need to get better but hey #improveeveryday!!!
From his Twitter. Despite the trolling from the annoying kids, you can tell he was having a good time. Chill out people, who cares about "scaring him off" lol. It's amazing that we even get to see a famous NBA player stream Starcraft and interact with a moderator from this website, just enjoy it while you can.
Why are you even mentioning things like "scare off". If he likes sc2, he likes sc2. Video game lovers are everywhere, and in fact cybergaming has a big future. Just lean back and enjoy, maybe Robert de niro or somebody else will stream the next day. Who knows
Was a joy watching his Stream. Love to see every kind of Person playing Starcraft. Awesome to see that a Professional such as Gordon Hayward loves Starcraft. Will watch again for shure!

Nah, it's a legitimate concern.
This is potentially a great platform for Hayward and others like him - it's not the playing SC2 part that's special, but the streaming - the interactivity and the opportunity to connect with interlinking communities of basketball and esports fans. As fans we should be respectful and encouraging so that it's worth his time and effort to do this when he just as easily could be playing privately with his friends, without the burden of opportunity of appearing in public and dealing with jackasses giving him shit while cheating.
This is a golden opportunity for both Hayward and the TL community, and we should extend our best effort to encourage and improve his play, which would raise both the profile of SC2 esports and Hayward himself.
And Gordon if you're reading this:
It's awesome that a player of my favorite sport is streaming himself playing my favorite video game. Get better every day! Definitely get in touch with TL people like Chill and professionals that he can connect you with like Day[9] or TL players so you can raise your play level to Masters level. From watching you play, I'd say your biggest problems at the moment are the lack of hotkeys, lack of use of keyboard commands (like B B for build barracks, or A moving to attack), and the lack of scouting.
:O *insta-faved Gordon Hayward* NBA player + SC2 player = best of both worlds @.@ To be honest I wish I were like that but alas I didn't work hard enough (on top of other circumstances). Hayward HWAITING XD
Any chance we could get VODs of the vent, if they could be updates into the OP that would be beyond amazing. I can't believe I missed this, I would love to catch up.
I thought this was pretty cool. Things like this help make games look less niche/nerdy and more mainstream. And perhaps his fans who may not normally be into this kind of thing might become interested and start following the SC2 scene.

Hopefully, a tweet like "Check out MLG Anaheim!" from such exposed figures is all what it takes to get the ball rolling
You guys need to just chill. Let the man enjoy the game, dont start getting ahead of yourselfs and dreaming of crazy possibilities. Its a game, which most ppl here forget, let him play it as such, as he clearly enjoys it. Best thing is to watch his stream (not troll) and support him in his experience in that way alone.
Having never heard of this guy before this and never watched an entire game of basketball in my life this was fucking awesome. I didn't even get to watch that much due to work. Hopefully I'll be able to tune in a bit more next time he plays!
And really a streamed coaching session with him and any major name in the sc2 community like Day9 or Incontrol would be awesome beyond belief. If he really does want coaching it shouldn't be too hard to set up, I can't believe that wouldn't benefit anyone involved a great deal.

He said he used to play Halo. SC2 can be somewhat of a troll cesspool, but let's face it, playing ladder SC2 is nothing like playing any FPS game with randoms in terms of people's behavior.
Lol, I never knew Stuart Holden was embarrassed that he used to play competitive CS.
Before his professional sports career Holden played competitive Counter-Strike and went by the alias Holden and most famously played for Forsaken in the United States. During his time with the team he helped them to a second place at the WCG 2002 qualifier and 8th place at CPL Summer 2003. His CS career took a back seat as he began to play soccer seriously for Clemson University and this eventually led into his MLS career.[24][25]
Holden has admitted that he is slightly embarrassed by his gaming career, stating "When I first started playing football professionally it all started to come out and I was a bit ashamed of it. I tried to hide it but eventually I've just started to embrace it. There's nothing I can do. I've deleted it off my Wikipedia page about four or five times and someone just keeps putting it back up there!"

He was drafted in the first round so he gets guaranteed money, and as a top 10 pick, his slot would pay him like 2.5m a year his first two years, then 3 mil a year for the next two on team option, and 4.5-5 mil on the 5th year under qualifying offer.

That was from an article from April 2011 so up until recently he certainly was embarrassed by it. Safe bet is that he is probably still at least somewhat ashamed or embarrassed about it.
There's a difference between being a pro gamer like Holden and playing a video game casually with friends (I think about every adult male probably does that from time to time)

He said he was busy tonight, but would try to stream tomorrow. I believe Gunrun offered to help set him up (and people have been tweeting @ him to talk to Gunrun as well), so I'm sure it'll all work out.
For a little context on Holden, he has always said that in live interviews in a funny way, I don't think he is legitimately embarrassed, most of the time he follows it with bragging about how much he would win.
He still games quite a bit according to his twitter anyway.
So which sport does his play? Wikipedia says that the plays football (soccer) in Premier League, but some people in this thread talks about NBA which I think is basketball?

This thread is about Gordon Hayward, the basketball player who just started streaming his SC2 games.
The soccer player is off topic but used to be a competitive CS player before playing soccer professionally.
Gaming for athletes isn't as uncommon as you'd think. When you're in random cities all the time with a relatively large amount of down time, a gaming console makes a great companion. And since you're roomed with teammates that are extremely competitive people, gaming happens.
OMGGGGG i just saw that hahaha. He built a new computer just to stream... so amazing. And I'm pretty sure some people here were gonna help him with justin.tv and getting good quality and what not, so should be pretty amazing!
...and maybe the webcam will even be on the bottom right.
haha thats great. Iam soo looking forward to game5 tonight and was playing starcraft2 all day just the see both thinks come together on my favourite community site.... what a great day^^
The season he had last year, you'd think he would be running drills instead of playing sc2...
This was his last game this season, from ESPN:
Gordon Hayward scored 34 points as the Jazz topped the Nuggets, 107-103. Hayward's point total was the highest in one game by a Jazz rookie in 28 years, since Jerry Eaves scored 35 points against the Pistons on March 16, 1983. In fact, besides Hayward and Eaves, only two other rookies in franchise history scored 34 or more points in a game: Aaron James for the New Orleans Jazz in 1975 and Darrell Griffith three times in 1980-1981.

I'd say he is doing perfectly fine for a rookie.
plus if you're a decent white boy baller who's playing for either Utah or Indiana, you're going to have a long career ahead of you.

Last season was more about a lack of playing time than performance. This year the roster is going to free up a bit and Utah clearly has big things in mind for him.
Decent chance he starts next year. And even if he doesn't, he's going to get a ton more playing time.
Just saw his new computer that thing is sickkkkkkkkkkkk so jelly.
And ya anyone talking about him in the NBA and him being bad is stupid.. Just look at his college career it was awesome. And if you follow his twitter he is working out everyday. He's gonna be great player just give him time, in the NBA and sc2

Excited to see him stream, hopefully he'll get in contact with TheGunRun.

... Really?
You wouldn't watch if Jesus H. (H?? why H i feel like i am missing something clever/intuitive that i should know from having attended a religious private school) Christ was streaming SC2 ? What if he had a webcam? I am pretty sure you are lying. Jesus would hit 1333333333333333333333333333333333333337 viewers no prob if he had a webcam.
Anyways this is pretty awsome when people who are famous in the real world give something like SC2 some acknowledgement... now i just need to contact him and ask for a small donation for a new tournament series... brb
Our boy Gordon is back :D Higher quality stream (slightly lower FPS) but it is very good looking now. Thegunrun might even help him out to set it up even better later (we'll see)

I guess only Americans know this guy no1 else really cares a lot about the NBA except a few fans around the world. I had never heard of this guy, but yeh... I can't even name 5 basketball players ^^
Haha, cool to see. But then again, we should really be less surprised today that a regular person who happens to excell at one thing can also enjoy digital entertainment.

Oh yeah I wouldn't expect a lot of people abroad to know him, in fact I wouldn't expect a lot of people in the US to know him. Even being a basketball player he has only been in the league for a couple of years and isn't super well known. He was more famous for his college career, but i'm sure that gets even LESS attention abroad than NBA.

What exactly was unintelligent my friend? I think 4v4s are a joke -- I think gold-level 4v4s are even more of a joke. I'm also a rabid NBA fan and want to see Hayward succeed; he didn't have a very solid season.
Edit: Seems like the video just got removed ^^ but he showed his creditcard # and all that stuff and his address while streaming lol
How did he do that? o_o ouch
I don't know ^^ I didn't watch the whole video so I don't know if he mentioned anything about it, basically skipped forward to see if he actually played in the VOD and ended up where he was purchasing some audio cable, but he was speaking so he must have been aware of that he was streaming.

Would've thought he had a decent rookie year, especially towards the end when he got consistent minutes, shows a lot of promise.

Firstly, the comment wasn't meant literally. It was a kind of cheap shot at Hayward because he plays for the Jazz, a team I loathe.
Secondly, I think it's just funny that people dig watching a guy who is bad just because he is semi-famous. I wouldn't watch Jerry Seinfeld play soccer; I wouldn't watch Blake Griffin sing. But TL wets its pants routinely for analogous situations. To each his/her own I suppose.
Anyhow, that's all you'll hear from me on this one. Good luck to Hayward in all of his endeavors.
It shouldn't be surprising that a NBA player is working on 4v4 in this. In basketball 1v1 isn't taken as seriously as team games. That doesn't carry over to SC2, but 4v4 is probably what he started with as a result of his background. As long as he's enjoying the game, can't hate.

As a die-hard basketball fan, I think it's pretty awesome that Gordon Hayward is playing SC2. Maybe if NBA players were a little more involved in the Starcraft community, MLG DALLAS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PLANNED DURING THE NCAA FINAL FOUR AND THE MLG COLUMBUS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WOULDN'T HAVE COINCIDED WITH GAME 4 OF THE NBA FINALS AAGGGHHH!!

Your argument was god awful to begin with. Why do you think people watch shows like Dancing with the Stars or some other horrible reality TV show with celebrities? Because watching someone famous do something out of their norm is interesting.
Hell, Incontrol was on WCG Ultimate Gamer a few years ago, and people on TL loved it. You aren't going to tell him to stop fucking around and get better at Starcraft, are you?
I don't watch those shows because they are horrendous. If you find that "interesting" that's your prerogative.
No, you think they're horrendous. Some people like them, maybe it upsets you greatly to accept that but it's true.
Yes, I think they are horrendous. That's what my post said. I have no doubt people like them (that's why they're on television); it doesn't make mass culture / pop culture good or entertaining. Opinion only goes so far my friend. If someone tells me Bieber is better, in terms of composition or execution, than The Beatles, they have a right to their opinion; I also have the right to think they are fools. If you like reality TV, well...
Anyway, good to see Hayward is watching SC Jesus in his spare time. He's on his way.

The season he had last year, you'd think he would be running drills instead of playing sc2...
The brain you have in your head, you would think you would be posting something intelligent instead of this crap.
What exactly was unintelligent my friend? I think 4v4s are a joke -- I think gold-level 4v4s are even more of a joke. I'm also a rabid NBA fan and want to see Hayward succeed; he didn't have a very solid season.
Care to explain what you meant? Cheers.
cause your post is just bad. That would be like me telling you to stop posting on teamliquid because you need to get better at whatever your job is. "After your performance last year at work, you'd think you would be trying to improve that instead of bashing an nba player on teamliquid"

I give up. I don't want to derail this thread any further. Nothing offered has refuted my core stance. If you want to bust my chops for not writing "in my opinion", have at it. Also, if you think those shows aren't horrendous, I pity you.

Props to Hayward. First time he streamed he didn't even know who day[9] was. Now he's catching the dailies in between workouts. As a Jazz fan all my life, never been so proud of a Jazz player. Hayward fighting!

You act like he is taking time our of his basketball practice schedule to stream Starcraft 2. Even professional athletes have free time, they don't spend every hour of everyday training.

The completely nobody that IPA is, you'd think he would be doing something worthwhile instead of hating on an sc2 forum...

Back on track: GOGO GORDON!! Eyes on the prize.
What's your point in posting at all then if you don't find it interesting? There's a lot of shit on this forum that I disagree with or find uninteresting. There's a lot of pro players I think are awful, but I don't go into their fan club thread and say "This player is atrocious why support him?" I don't go into the Gold Cup League and go "Why would you watch such awful players anyways?"
The only purpose your post serves is to needlessly antagonize people who, what a surprise, have different tastes than you. If you want to act high and mighty and not watch 'such unsophisticated gaming/shows' then go do that.
Watching his stream is fun and entertaining because of the conversation between Boris and Zergman. Hayward isn't bad for a NBA player since I have the thought that professional athletes who play games are usually CoD or sports game types.
