The MLG Raleigh event will take place August 26th - August 28th (The StarCraft 2 Schedule has not yet been released; however, it will be similar to the Anaheim Schedule)
Please try to purchase your pass as soon as they go on sell and come to Raleigh and show your support for MLG and the North American SC2 scene!
As always, please feel free to ask any questions regarding the event, and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. Please keep in mind that there are still details to be released, so if the information is not below, it's likely not available yet.
Reservation phone number: 800-325-3535 (mention code "MLG" for discount
Distance to venue: across the street
It is not mandatory to stay in these hotels. If you'd like to do a price comparison to find the cheapest hotel, I would suggest to use Google Search, using the address of the Raleigh Convention Center which is 500 South Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 to find the hotels closest to the venue.
Please pay special attention to the Hotels. You have until August 2nd or August 5th (depending on the hotel) to book your room with the special MLG Rate.
If you plan to go to this event as a Player, make sure you purchase your player passes as soon as possible. Anaheim sold out in just a few days, so don't wait to purchase your passes, especially if you are flying into the event.

I'm sad because I'll be in both Orlando and passing through Raleigh in the next two weeks. Too early obv. It's OK, because I live in RI, so I'll just settle for the National Championships.
Hey, when do spectator passes become available, or are they already? Can't find them in any of the links above. Have myself and 2 friends excited to go, just need a place to throw our money! Please let me know - thanks.
Wow my mastercard isnt working to buy the player pass, I get an error message saying sorry cannot accept mastercard at this time....so I was like ok I'll just do it with paypal...guess what my paypal balance is 40 cents short LOL!! hopefully they dont sell out within the 3days it takes to transfer money to paypal. or my card works soon, ;o

Mastercard can not be used to purchase Player or Team Passes.
Gapping the tournaments would make it more logistically easy.....
I cannot promise player attendence to Raleigh due to the fact its only 3 weeks between events. It makes it about 60% more expensive to fly from abroad.
to my knowledge, the majority of high school/college semesters begin at the beginning of September, so starting it later could dramatically affect attendance
Do you need to buy a spectator's pass if you already have a competitor's pass to hang out? I've been searching around but can't find a definite answer anywhere.

This is true. My next semester starts the day after the event and it'll be an 8 hour drive back up. Fun times =P

not sure why people are complaining about the proximity of these 2 mlg's... they needed to schedule them this close together so they could take up the 2 weekends that EVO and Pax Prime are scheduled for.
I mean, it isn't like we could reasonably expect them to coordinate!!!

There are MLG Anaheim spoilers ahead, although they are mostly nonspecific.
How many pool spots are available for the next MLG, considering how many Korean players did well at MLG Anaheim vs how many might not come back? Is there a deadline for players who would be seeded to announce their participation at Raleigh, and does being seeded into Pool play automatically go to the next highest seed who is coming?
At the following MLG event, after Raleigh, do points decay if you were inactive for Raleigh but decide to participate at MLG Orlando? It could create some interesting drama for a pool player who does well at Raleigh but could be bumped based on whether or not certain players decide to come to Orlando.
Edit: Well, after reading through the rules I found through the above post's link, I think I pieced together the information well enough. It seems to follow pretty basic logic of hierarchy (seeding). And there's definitely a deadline.
Except I'm still not sure if points decay, other than falling behind by nor participating. It still seems like Losira, for example (who was not at Anaheim), could sign up for a future event and go straight to pool play if there isn't a solid enough group of regular MLG players to earn more points than Losira. He earned 1000 points with his 2nd place Columbus finish, **warning MLG Anaheim Spoiler**+ Show Spoiler +
and with so many Korean top finishers at Anaheim, who might not go to Raleigh or Orlando, if Losira goes, couldn't he bump someone like Tyler or iNcontroL (or TLO or Sheth), who are borderline as far as Pool Play.

Points don't "decay" throughout the same season. The points remain active on the players account throughout the season.

I think people were a little upset they went and prebought tickets and people last minute were able to get such good discounts. I think it almost would have been a better move to not offer the promotion. To me, it just seems like you were giving a big "fuck off" to people who paid $25 ahead of time.
Don't get me wrong, I had a blast at MLG and was very impressed with how the staff handled things. One thing I'd like to point out though is I saw two separate instances of cheating (one I'm positive, the other I can only suspect). The first there was a guy on a cell phone chatting everything that was happening during the match to a guy that was playing in the open bracket, who, when I and a few other people also watching realized what was happening and gave him a look, he BOLTED. I can only presume the other player had a bluetooth, so it would be a good thing to check for before games start. The other was when a guy kept holding up (and I mean intentionally holding something up in vision) a blinking ball that he was intentionally changing the color of at certain times. He'd hold it up and it'd be flashing blue, and after a while, he'd eventually change it to red and hold it up again, which I can only presume was code for something. I originally told security and they said it wasn't their job to fix this matter, then I realized you had separate refs (DUH), and they took the matter extremely seriously and said they were gonna start checking for bluetooths before matches as someone else had already made a comment about it. Just in case you have diff refs for Raleigh, something to look out for!

I'M coming up from Greensboro! If anyone from uncg or the area iS looking for a ride, shoot me a message as I have some space in my car. Always Nice to meet some more starcraft bros :3
Anyway, i'll be making some (hopefully) great cheerfuls so I'll see you guys there!
I'll be at UNC Chapel Hill during this tournament and I'm really planning on going. This will be my first MLG event EVER! I really hope I'll be able to go, anyone in the area that has extra space in their car want to take me? I could help pay gas for the short ride there, lol.

Not sure where you are getting the news from; however, Anaheim was our biggest event ever in terms of hype, audience, and stream views (from 22 Million in Columbus to over 30 million in Anaheim.)

Someone needs to get Sase there. Seriously. And mousesports has already sent Thorzain and Morrow to try MLG, please send Mana for Raleigh, he's been so solid lately and he has experience from open brackets. DH Winter 2010 anyone? Also, we better get a Protoss Korean invite this time, Puzzle would be sick. Please make this the best MLG ever!
great! just disappointed to see such a poor prize poll this time to, was hoping that sundance was willing to make it on par with dreamacka and dump another 10-15 thousands in it
Me and 2 friends bought everything this weekend. Both of these hotels are all booked up therefore, we had to stay at the days inn. It was only 52$ a night so . CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MLG LIVE. :D
All this whining that the events are too close together is ruining ESPORTS.
If I were me (I am) I'd be completely pumped that there's ANOTHER epic event coming at the end of the month. Gonna be stuffed so full of ESPORTS I'm gonna explode, and its going to be excellent. Already got the Gold pass, gonna be enjoying a lovely 1080p stream :D.

Doubt it, thats why they have the GSL exchange program.
And lol at the people saying there are too many MLG's or they are too close together. GSL takes place every month. NASL took about a month off. MLG is a circuit, not just a LAN like DH.
On August 07 2011 15:39 {ToT}ColmA wrote: is this the shortest time between 2 mlgs? O.o or was it this way last year too
Last year, Raleigh was the first MLG for SC2 so ... dunno. The time between DC and Dallas was ~1 month as well.
I kinda like the short timeframe between events considering it is just a weekend event. 4-6 weeks between MLGs is a pretty good length to give for a fan. You have a week after the event to glorify in victor and then there is constant info about next event coming out in the couple weeks leading up to the next one.

I think Sundance and other MLG staff have been hinting at this on twitter etc. I would like to see a tournament with top8 seeds of MLG and top8 seeds of GSL and ofc MLG vs GSL team match in there too.

Pretty sure the prize pool is on a fixed budget until next year. In their attempts to play things safe, MLG underestimated the insane popularity of Starcraft 2. Next year should be significantly bigger.
I'm officially in stress mode. Originally, I was gonna drive down from NJ with 2 friends. The one who was driving may very well not be coming now, and I'm looking for last minute flights and trains. Better yet, I cannot find a single plane or train that returns >10-11pm Sunday. I have absolutely no idea what to do. This feels so fucked up.
Edit: Checked Mercer, Newark, Atlantic City, and Philly to RDU on priceline, and Amtrak's website departing from Trenton. Nada.

i dont know if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but are there any chances the prizepool will increase? 5k doesnt seem like too much compared to, say NASL getting 50k.

doesnt mean to flame at all, just wondering
/lovemlg
The budget was set for this entire season early this year/late last year, from what I recall from Sundance, there definitely will be an increase in prize pool next season.
Ugh. Just checked prices. If my friend who is driving doesn't end up coming, and we have to go by train, an extra night at the hotel will be another 130, and the train to and from will be 200/person. This trip will be up to $420 per person before food and travel from the train station to the hotel is even accounted for.
This is rapidly going from excitement to stress and rage.
Everyone talking about the prize pool need to remember to take into account the fact that the bigger importance of these events is in gaining rank points to seed well for Providence which has a significantly larger prize pool which is as follows:
Granted, I agree that it should be a little bit bigger for the the "smaller" events, maybe something like 10-15k for first place to put it in line with Dreamhack, Assembly, etc. However, you can't ignore the bigger picture entirely. And please everyone, don't start talking about fairness in regards to how rank points are awarded; it's been talked to death and Sundance has even tweeted that it will change in the future.
On the liquipedia Raleigh section, it says that the top 16 players as of right now are seeded into pool play. Does that mean MMA, Boxer, Losira, MC, etc. are seeded as well if they make their own accommodations to get to MLG, and not with the GSL exchange program? It's only fair, right?

Yeah, I believe it's confirmed that if they get over here by means other than the GSL exchange program, then they are seeded according to points they've already earned. It was speculated that this wasn't the case in the past (and I thought this was the case) but it was refuted by a tweet from someone at MLG. I think it was MLGLee, but someone else can correct me on that, if I'm wrong. At any rate, I'm sure about the actual content of it.
EDIT: I don't believe many players will do this since none did it for Anaheim, but SlayerS has shown they are willing to send people through the open so MMA and Boxer might go. MC also has the deal with SK which might pay for him to go. I don't think he will do much in the way of international events until his GSL results pick back up though. This is all pure speculation on my part, fyi.
On Thursday, August 25th from 6-9 PM ET, we will be doing spectator check-in at the Raleigh Convention Center outside of our event hall.
You'll be able to pick-up your spectator pass if you pre-ordered online, and likewise, if you are purchasing at the event, you'll be able to purchase your spectator pass at this time as well.
Hope to see the seeded Slayers guys and MC returning on their own funds (or that of their sponsors)! So MvP and Bomber are already confirmed, right? It would be great if the other two players would be a zerg and a protoss. Maybe as zerg... dare I say it... IMNesTea?
I'm hoping for them to invite 2 relatively outstanding players that aren't already in the GSL system that might stand a chance of winning the entire thing and head straight into Code S. That would be such an awesome reward!

So... Those dates are passed. If I buy Silver it will work for current dates because that info is misleading. I dont want to spend money if its not going to work.

The 3 month membership is essentially the HD stream pass (with a ton of other benefits). You get HD streams for all events in the next 3 months
When I click on three month silver pass it says:
Update: Full membership benefits will be made available between 7/5 - 7/22.

That's a typo, it will work for three months. And F YEAH I just got my membership, now I just need to kill seven hours

Go to sleep, enough time to then get up and watch it all

I woke up three hours ago. No way I can sleep now I'll just rewatch Boxer vs Rain, that should be about seven hours, right?

I would assume it's in part because Blizzard takes a percentage of the ad revenue relative to the prize money, and i would assume it's on the total prize money (thought about relative to the first place prize and that makes no sense at all hah).
Now, i don't know their budgets and the money they make with online passes and live attendance, but for the online passes, i would guess they don't make that much money off gold passes, seeing as it's valid for a whole year. They probably make most of their money on live attendance and silver passes. And sponsor money too i guess.
