According to MKP's facebook page, MKP will be attending MLG Orlando. He will be competing in the Open Bracket.
From MKP's Facebook Earlier today:
Lee, Jung-Hoon (MarineKingPrime.WE) I think it's going to happen MKP will be going to MLG ORLANDO!
Later today:
Lee, Jung-Hoon (MarineKingPrime.WE) It has happened... the King is going to be at MLG Orlando!!! Thanks to Milkis!♥ Omg those are going to be the best days of my life!!!! MarineKing Fighting!!!!!!!! Gogo 1st Place or 2nd idc at least you're going!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥ (You can tell that i'm happy ^^).
EDIT: as posted below, the "thanks to milkis" is because Milkis opened a donation pool on reddit to support MKP to go to orlando.
Between this, and star nation, and sons of starcraft, the community has donated about $70,000 in the last couple months. why are starcraft ppl so awesome?
On September 17 2011 05:29 Tachion wrote: Between this, and star nation, and sons of starcraft, the community has donated about $70,000 in the last couple months. why are starcraft ppl so awesome?
Because the nerds have grown up, and now they have money =).
This is awesome news!! I can't help but wonder why donations had to be made to get him over here, was his team or himself not willing to send him?? Just seems kind of strange considering MKP probably isn't hurting for money with all his 2nd place prize winnings
KInd of feels like he's telling us he won't come unless we pay for it.
I can't believe how fast the money got raised. I had woken up only to hear that the money was already raised. Can't wait to see MKP play and good job to both Milkis and the sc2 community =D
This is fucking awesome! I've been following the reddit threads about this, and I have to say Milkis is the community member who just keeps giving. Everywhere I look he's doing something great.
And that's not to say anything about the reddit community. 3.5k+ in 4 hours is damned impressive. Sometimes the reddit community seems kinda dumb, but they do not disappoint when they decide to back something!
So glad we raised enough money, was there when the donations opened and didn't think there would be enough money coming in. Pleasantly surprised of course
Now he has to win it of course, can't be second forever ^^.
If it wernt for this reddit stuff I'd be pretty sceptical about his actual attendance. He's pulled out more times than a guy allergic to condoms but if its other peoples money on the line im sure he'll make it this time
I dony belive MKP anymore :D , he was going to MLG and other international turnaments tree of four times already , and never got there .. so if i see him in Orlando i belive then :D

Well his manager said it was alright for him to go, so he will most likely be going.
Marineking is not the one who bloody wrote that post on facebook. Im not sure if you guys have misunderstood but the facebook page is just made by a fan. No need to like get a buzz on about him apparantly being happy as im pretty sure hes not going to speak about himself in third person...
Exactly, I mean thanks to Milkis and DJ Wheat, but this idea was a Reddit Idea, posed first to DJ Wheat who took the ball, then Milkis talked to the Prime coaches about it, then Redditors payed for it. Credit where credit is due if it was not for the Reddit thread none of this would have ever happened, redditors just needed someone to take our damn money already!
So much was raised, very quickly. I love this little project Milkis has going, I hope the leftover money will be used wisely, maybe for another Korean players flight and accommodation for the next MLG after Orlando.. the fact that the community is sponsoring players is very exciting.
I don't think any other Korean has more fans than MKP. (after NaDa and Boxer).
I really hope MKP develops a style that once is figured out, he doesn't start playing poorly. If he does or has, MLG Orlando will be a cakewalk for him.
EDIT: Woah, fixed up my wording as it carried a different meaning than what I meant.
On September 17 2011 07:24 tuho12345 wrote: 3 Terrans so far... sighed. I like MKP, please replace him with BoxeR so we will have less Terran please.
MKP will be going thru the open bracket just like anyone who sign up for the open bracket at the event. Has nothing to do with the invites. Stop complaining and enjoy that you get to see one more awesome player at MLG
On September 17 2011 07:24 tuho12345 wrote: 3 Terrans so far... sighed. I like MKP, please replace him with BoxeR so we will have less Terran please.
Boxer is already going to MLG Orlando though. MKP is a fan favorite and the sc2 community is bringing him over on their own money to see him go through the open bracket.
I'm very interested to see how this all works out. He will get through the open bracket for sure but how much further will he go after that? (He'll take second..hardy har har...but seriously, this'll be interesting)
not that I'm not thrilled that this whole operation turned out successful, but why couldn't MKP pay his own way w/ all those 2nd place checks his parents I'm sure make him save. (after Prime's cut + hair stylist fees)

He probably could, but it's not necessarily worth it for him to pay out of pocket. His sponsors also may prefer to allocate their funds for him elsewhere. I think the first comment on reddit probably said it best. I'm kind of ambivalent about it, but maybe it will show sponsors that there is a target audience out there with money to spend.
Great news will definetly be watching as much mlg as possible, the matches I managed to catch from anaheim and rayleigh were awesome props to MKP lets hope he doesnt get pipped off the podium yet again
So its ST.Bomber, SlayerS_BoxeR, and MarineKingPrime. We? Three Korean Terrans are heading to MLG Orlando so far. I hope the fourth invitee changes things up a bit. A Protoss or Zerg player please!

MKP isn't being invited.
He's entering as a free agent in the open bracket which anyone is allowed to do.

Oh, sorry then. But who needs to read an OP when you can get 4 people reading and correcting the statement for you?

this is sooo epic!!!!!! i am really hoping MKP has a really good showing i love watching him play, so much fun. Thanks to milkis and everyone who donated, way to go!
This already is a marvellous storyline, but if MKP would win this MLG it would be amazingly perfect. I'll be cheering for him (as soon as all the foreigners have gone out TT).

At first he did, but then he said he was not going to Raleigh, but would probably end up going to Orlando.
Anyway, this is great, because MK is ridiculously great to watch. Its also bad because Korean Terrans are probably going to derp all over the rest of the competition. Between Bomber, MKP, and Boxer, I would be terrified to even compete in this mlg.
people love to talk a lot of trash about reddit but lately there's a lot of awesome stuff like this (charity drive) that hopefully will shut some people up....cus what they/milkis did is fucking amazing
Well now we know who's coming in second, only question now is which Korean is going to win..... I'm going to vote MC, because I'm a hopeless fan boy lol

You probably didnt watch GSL open season 2 and everything onwards then
No I did, I've watched every GSL game, I just don't understand the hype. Sure he's cute and came with some sick micro (especially in the Kyrix game in Ro8[?]), but there are other terrans I would rather fawn over. Just personal preference, I know everyone has their favorites.
MKP gonna smash open bracket and make it all the way to the finals, only to lose to Bomber to live up to his Kong lineage.....that's what my head says, my heart says he'll go win it all. ^_^
I feel like he will do very well in the open racket since he is such a good ladder player. July showed that cheese works really well in the open bracket when he won his first 6 games in like under 7 minutes each.
Was very proud of the community for making this possible and for Milkis stepping up and making it happen. Tears will be shed when MKP holds that trophy above his head.

Shame he isn't any good (not counting that he could beat 95% of the worlds players because he trains so much, he still isn't at his core a superb genuins, just a hard worker).

an absolutely uneducated statement.

We generally just say foreigners, not "white people"
Saying MKP isn't good is a silly statement. Anyone who has played a lot of competitive starcraft or starcraft 2 realizes how difficult it is to win. Achieving MKP's results takes lots of skill. He's an awesome player to watch, the reddit community is awesome!

Being lazy doesn't make you a top tier player. Putting in the hard yards does.
Wow. I am a fan of MKP and want to see top players at MLG, but the thing that excites me the most here is the mobilization of fans to make this happen.
Thanks Milkis and everyone involved. Damn I think Garfield was right, you are more powerful than just a translator :D

being a protoss player i haven't been the biggest terran fan recently but this is pretty cool that the community came together and gave him the chance to compete at Orlando for the fans. It would be nice for him to win so everyone would get off his back about the whole second place thing.

If I was his coach I'd be embarrassed that the FANS were the one paying for this. It seems cute now but if they come to expect this sort of thing that will be bad news, especially after they (Korean teams) completely dickd the NASL and didn't even seem sorry about it. If a player with the stardom of MKP cant afford to travel he needs a new team, not charity from fans.

What is sad is that the koreans teams who have the best players struggle to have sponsors whereas mid-tier (read : foreign) teams have a lot of sponsors/money.

I'm pretty sure Korean SC2 teams have lots of money lying around. Oh wait, MVP just asked for any prospective main sponsor to step forward during the post GSL finals interview!
I watched this story develop on reddit and it was truly incredible, the community support for MKP and the way people were willing to put their money where there mouth was to get such a fantastic player over here to the states.... it only speaks of more and better things to come for e-sports. Milkis and reddit get huge props for this!

Other people have already bashed this post enough, but I just want to say this is written out of sheer ignorance. If it was easy for Koreans to come to MLG, they would surely come. $10,000 over a period of 3 day is more than a great deal. Also as other person pointed out, MVP was looking for sponsors after his 3rd GSL win, his 3rd.
On a side note: MKP take gold please! I know you can do it!

I got really mad at your first sentence. >_< Then I read the second. Gotta echo you here, Korean SC2 teams don't have money lying around on the level of EG.
did anyone see MKP at the GSL code S group picks? lol... i love his playstyle and what not, but he's really... effiminate or borderline gay. He was like hugging Losira like a girlfriend lying on her boyfriend's shoulders and then later on solo playing with his nails or something.

And that's really a shame. But with more international appearances of korean Stars, hopefully big western esport sponsors like, razer, amd, intel, steelseries etc. will start supporting korean teams too. I mean Prime, a team who has/had stars like MKP and Polt and 4 GSL Finals with them in its rows, has only _one_ sponsor - a korean chicken resturant. The only difference from that seems to be slayers. With razor and other sponsors, they even could afford some high tier player transfers (puzzle, coca).

Losira is 'effiminate' too though. I really like them ^^.
I think it's great he's coming and even better that the community chipped in to bring him to MLG. I'm wondering, however, why he can't afford to fly himself over with all of his GSL prize money or just wait for his invite, which would've came sooner or later (if not already).

You're saying that as if it's something awful to be gay. Who cares about his sexuality, he's an incredible player and he has an amazing personality.

He probably can but financially it doesn't make sense. Paying 3000-4000 to gain a probably 10-20 percent chance at 5000 and security for code S. The only thing he'll be getting is the exposure and experience. That's probably a big deal but i don't think Prime and himself are in the position to make that kind of financial decisions.
Not to mention that going to MLG basically means he will lose about at least a week of training or so. In the ever competitive code S, that can make or break your season.
What this donation drive is in my opinion, something like an Appearance Fee. Something you have to give him because otherwise he wouldn't have come/ it would not make sense for him to come.
You have to wonder how far the generousity of the SCII community will go. Funding their own tourney in a way (Shoutcraft), sending MKP to MLG, giving 30k to Doctor's without borders, and funding documentarys. I mean it's great, and for good causes I guess, but I am afraid that this will become more and more the rule rather than exceptions, and I don't think it's sustaineble in the long run, teams will have to be able to send their own players to tourneys and people have to make their own money. A gaming scene as large as SCII cannot be funded only by fans.
Of course as it is now it's no big deal, and I am not saying what's happend the last weeks are a bad thing, I am just saying that I doubt people will be able to keep relying on fans to donate these huge amounts of money forever.

It might be more sustainable than you may think. However, becoming dependent on it, is probably the wrong way for things to head. I do agree on that. A good mixture of both is healthy. It allows the community to actively participate, while still showing sponsors and such that there really is a market for this. This market is much more dedicated than people who watch TV. It costs much less, and the return on investment is maybe much higher (i have no real statistics though). The closest example of this is probably the DOTA 2 tournament. The 1 million dollars probably got more potential buyers than TV advertising for the same cost.
The fans are in the tens of thousands, maybe close to a hundred thousand for some events. So even a fraction donating just one dollar to their favorite players is very easy to come by. Of course you have the really generous people, but the fact still sits there.
If you even think about 50k of the Dreamhack viewers donating the 3500 dollars necessary to send MKP, thats just a mere 7% of the audience who donates 1 dollar, or 7 cents per viewer. Destiny / Sheth's charity event probably averaged out to around 1-3 dollars per viewer.
People who follow community sites (TL, Reddit, etc) fit in the more "hardcore" group of players, and the relative percentage of people donating is much higher than say, the blizzard sc2 board, which might have more total viewers, but much less would be willing to donate to people.

MarineKing didn't even know there was intention by his foreign fans to send him to MLG Orlando. It started as a thread on /r/starcraft that attempted to get support of moderation from djWHEAT. Then it went quiet until Milkis decided to take charge of the efforts.

KInd of feels like he's telling us he won't come unless we pay for it.
It cost thousands of dollars for someone like MKP to attend MLG and first place pays like 5k and second would probably only barely cover the expenses. MKP not personally funding this gamble can't seriously surprise you.
The last comment you made is borderline offensive, let's just be happy he'll attend and that Reddit once again got shit done!

I think the bigger question is that if MKP was willing to come over, why wasn't he invited through the MLG exchange program seeing as he is so popular?

They called up Boxer first and then realized that they've hit their quota for Terrans

I dunno, I think the majority of the community would still have preferred MKP to HongUn, racial distribution be damned.

I'm not even going to argue with someone as blinded by fanboism as you. I bet you think Destiny is awesome as well.

Destiny? Ok now I know for a fact that you are trolling, Destiny is no where near as good as MKP and it goes to show that you know nothing at all if you are comparing the two. What has Destiny done? Nothing really, no offense to Destiny. MKP has placed 2nd at GSL a few times which is hard to do.

Umm.. Reddit sponsored a player because they liked him and wanted to see him at MLG
Yes but that doesn't change my point.
I don't really understand, I personally don't like watching MKP's games much, a million other Terrans I'd rather watch but he's still one of the most accomplished players, so I don't see how you can say he's more deserving, anyone more deserving based on results has actively decided they don't want to go...

Who cares? Hes a fan favorite like TLO or White-Ra.
I was just stating my opinion.
Well first of all you are being a dick about it. The way you are wording it comes across as very condescending.
Also you are stating your opinion that "Reddit's taste in SC2 talent is really questionable" when it isn't a matter of talent and you are even now acknowledging that. I don't get what your point is. They invited a player they enjoy with their own money, and then you are trying to talk down on them because you feel MKP doesn't have enough talent? They aren't even related. Explain?

Deserving as far as talent and results go? Sure. Deserving in terms of foreign interaction (his twitter is regularly updated in English), foreign interest, foreign fan numbers, probably not many more deserving than MKP.
As someone who donated, I just wanted to say that for me, it wasn't even that I wanted to see MKP so much as I wanted to show the Koreans that we love to see them so much, that I am willing to donate to get them here. Granted it's not something I would do often (if ever again), but I think the simple fact that we took a desire to see a player, and made it real. There are a lot of people saying how silly it is to pay for a 'rich' korean to come play, but I think they are focusing on the negative too much. I think it sends a great message to American and Korean sponsors, that we love seeing these players play so much, we are willing to spend some of our own money to get them here. I do agree that doing it all the time, or even often, could be a bad thing. If they were to start expecting us to pay for them to come to events, it would be silly.
TL;DR - I donated 2.22$ and that means my opinion matters on the internets!

He's good but not a HUGE@SS fanbase like MKP... because he's too old and he doesn't do funny shit like wear aviators during games. He can learn alot from MMA/Keen/MKP.

I am always shocked at how willing people are to support some players. This is the best news I've heard all week. I like MKP, not because he has amazing marine control, but he really shows how much he cares about the game.

OK so if you wanted to see another korean terran at MLG why haven't you sponsored him to go?
People are supporting MKP because he openly shows how much he cares the game and how he plays. I was sold on him when he was nearly crying after beating MC in the GSL semi finals. The kid won, but he was so emotional. The people at Reddit are hoping by supporting him, he will put in the effort and have a good showing.
The Red Sox lost for nearly 100 years, but people kept cheering for them. I don't think people were thinking "Should I be cheering for these guys?" all those years. They were thinking, "If I cheer enough, will it help them win?"

An interesting prediction...I think Group B will be equally, if not more, hotly contested than Group D. The exact level may not exactly be the same but in terms of competitiveness and upset potential I'd say either group is looking pretty sick.
Maybe he did important stuff with his prize money. It's easy to say "Well he won this much!" but you don't know how much of that went back into his team, or what his previous debts were or anything. Maybe he used his prize money to help members of his family or his friends.
Or you could look at it from a business perspective. Why should he pay $5,000 of his own money to go to a tournament where he more than likely won't make half that, let alone break even?
It's great to see that the community donated. I'd like to see more things like this. It shows the Korean players and organizations that we support them.

NesTea has been invited several times, but as you see in the AllStar Games/AoL ...he doesn't care about anything with less prizemoney than 30.000$.
I don't know if you're serious, but that's bullshit :L
But everytime Nestea can't really prepare 2 weeks in advance, he looks, well, mortal and sometimes even bad :L.
No GSL match comes even close to preparing 2 weeks in advance. The worst it gets is 1 week, MAX.
He always has more time to prepare than any other top players. Before MC flied out and picked up prize in foreigner's tourneys he looked immortal as hell. But after that he got lost cuz no time to practice and caught up with Korean scenes.

Nobody cares what your opinion is. Who are you to say who 'deserves' community sponsorship to a foreign tournament? MarineKing is a popular player for good reasons and personally I am really proud of what r/starcraft and Milkis have managed

Why exactly is MKP popular? This has always confused me. His games are unwatchable and cheesy most of the time. Is it him crying after every game or the fact he models for a website and people think hes cute? Honestly I never understood the draw to a guy that cracks under pressure so hard and does a gold command center float one game then thor rushes the next then 1-1-1s the other.
Honestly I want to know so the puzzle can be solved and like I said it has always confused me.

Why 'exactly'? I don't know how you expect anyone to answer that completely...
Combination of him being ::
- very likeable character - does crazy builds which would just not work without top level micro; entertaining - GSL finalist and regular Code S - cute - often plays with bio more than tanks in TvT - stands out from other pros for the above reasons and more
Just a couple of thoughts...
Try being more objective & ask yourself, why would he not be popular to the average Star II viewer?

I can't see how his games are unwatchable. I find them entertaining. You never know what crazy build or style he's going to play and whether or not he's going to bring his top class marine splits or send hundreads of marines into a couple of banelings.
If every game of SC2 was Idra vs Idra, that would make for an incredibly dull and "unwatchable" e-sport IMO.

I love MKP because his games are entertaining. I would much rather watch MKPs insane builds and micro than watch STBomber bludgeon his opponent to death in 25 min macro games. His style is different, fast paced and aggressive, and thats why we love him. Also, he is really cute:D

New to sc2? Go back and watch him against kyrix that made me a fan for life. Not to mention he is one of the most entertainig terrans out there. His base trade games are sick as well. I only watched code A because of him.
why is it that everybody just throws around "LOL CHEESEY" when it's a player they don't like? do you people that use the term even know what it means? Bitbybit = cheesy. MKP =/= cheesy.
like, i'm just shocked at the number of people for example that still GENUINELY thinks rain plays like he did in open season 2 ("LOL HE ONLY MARINE SCV ALL IN")
No one cares about the small, small minority of forever-alone nerds bashing on MKP. r/starcraft/ raised $3500 in 4 hours for him and him specifically, and no matter how much you try to complain about how he doesn't play boring-as-hell like IdrA every game, he's still going to Orlando to compete and make all his fans happy. You can stay in your basement and convince yourself how much better things would've gone and all the awesome players you'd have gotten instead if only you had a say. Which you didn't, don't, and very likely never will.
