Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
I think yes espacially agains Zerg, throug the Infestor nerf they have a stronger 200 200 death ball, and they can still drop great with warp prism.
But to focus a bit on ZvT what do you think about the new fast 3 base from Terran and with the hellion opening Zerg cannt get a quick third, how they did agains Protoss and double expanding is pretty risky I thing Counter Attacks are not bad but the only Zerg who had won his bo3 angains this build in GSL is Neastea. He uses at the basetrade Burrowed banelings, beceause Terran could not scan with no Commandcentres. And I liked that a lot.
What do you think about the fast 3 base Terran and how to deal with it?
Just wondering... Why do pro terran players reveal their tech structures such as building a factory replacing a choke that already had a barracks. I see this against zerg. Does it matter if zerg scouts the factory? Sorry if I sound noobish. (Probably because I am)

So, after seeing a lot of footage of Kiwi vs Stephano cause i f***ing loved that game, I've tried to chill down the hype and get my thoughts together since as a Protoss player I've struggled a lot against infestor broodlord myself. Is vortex the only "real" answer to that composition ? And it seems like if stephano knew the vortex hotkey the outcome would have been different. I've also watched a game on slayers' yugiho stream where a similar situation happened where the P struggled a lot until vortex came and "solved" everything.
Just curious, what are peoples' thought on this, and if it's already been discussed on another topic, just link it to me ^_^

Its an hold habit to wallin with your racks so scouts can't pass through, then you build your addon there as well and since switching makes the factory work faster there you go. You give up the hide the tech for your units being out faster. Especially hellions deny ling scouting so you want them out fast to do the real tech. Otherwise you probably get a double ovi scout on your main anyway if you play sneaky, can't hide something from a zerg heh.

A couple of zergs (such as sheth) are opening with fast roachs in ZvT in order to meta game this kinda play. 2 base eco roach pressure can flat out kill hellion expand on occasion.
I was generally dissatisfied after watching a bit of League of Legends. I would like to open this poll to see if others felt the same way I did. I would rather have just watched the semi finals and finals of SC2 @ IPL rather than be given no choice but to watch LoL or turn off the stream. Agree?

This month will be awesome for SC2 e-sports: Blizzcon (Nestea replays anyone?), MLG Orlando (always awesome, specially with replays <3), GSL Oct (hopefully good ZvT till the finals, at least good ZvTs this weak =)).
I don't think this warrants a topic of it's own because sooooo many topics have been made already that are "similar".
ZvZ: On maps where 15hatch is "safer" (ShatT, TA, Antiga etc), is is possible to hold a 15 hatch against ANY cheese build? I have had the most trouble against 9/10 pools, and I haven't yet seen a guide out there that gives you the exact details of how to. Is scouting it out the only answer? I scout on 9, but if he's the last position scouted then im committed to the 15hatch already.
If you say "just throw down a spine in your mineral line and mineral-walk-attack with your drones" then you're a scrub. 8+ lings microed ON CREEP against drones will kill a huge number of your drones (gg) WAY before that spine or any lings pop.
edit: Didn't think this belonged in SQSA thread because it doesn't appear to be that simple, as none of the guides address it specifically.

Oh without a doubt, and also the GSTL Finals (which were AMAZING just btw.) Code A finals, Blizzcon Invitational, Code S and MLG.
All of which are shaping up to make October the single biggest month ever in E-sports.
Hey, I'm not sure if anyone has seen Minigun and his play with warp prisms and sentries, but it got me thinking that it seems crazy that Protoss can use one force field on a Zerg ramp and cut the army in half. I also understand though that force field is not overpowered and is an integral part of the protoss game play. I was thinking then that maybe an appropriate solution would be to make queens massive and wanted to see what everyone here thought. The only other things I think this would affect is that a phoenix would not be able to lift up queens, but in turn the void ray would deal more damage. What do you think?
Just wondering how people deal with a Terran fast expand into bio push with all 3 bio upgrades (I play protoss). I lose to this push everytime, I expand as soon as I spot the terran command center going down, which usually requires me to get an observer. The problem is i have to engage terran at my natural, where on maps like metalopolis I simply get crushed by the stimmed bio-ball. The push is timed such that colossus are not a viable option, and i'd only have 1 immortal, and a handful of stalkers, sentries, and zealots. Thanks.
EDIT: Also, the push arrives before i can chrono out +1 attack or armor, or zealot legs or blink, a very brutal timing indeed.
I am finding the protoss deathball impossible to deal with post patch 1.4. On a map where the protoss can turtle on 3 bases such as taldarim, zerg has a hard time pressuring. I have found infestors to be a lot less useful and now many protoss are adding immortals to their deathball which can dps while the stalker collosus and void rays are attacking. The added immortals make roaches a less than optimal choice now. In general I am a fairly strong player in zvp but I always lose against the death ball. Brood lords are just not enough to beat it because they can transition to more void rays or blink stalkers.
Also one thing I have found frustrating is that a protoss can blindly go for a fast robotics because then they can chrono out an obs to check for muta play and adjust accordingly. If the zerg opts for an early ling roach attack the protoss can just use immortal zealot to hold it off then they are free to start making their death ball
Any suggestions from masters level or higher zerg on how to beat a protoss death ball?
EDIT: I have found baneling drops don't work very well after patch 1.4

Well, Factories do have more HP than rax.
I don't think so...
I don't know what you're talking about specifically, but terran players lift off their rax to build a reactor for their factory simply because they don't have another building on which to build it. I haven't seen a terran player build his wall with a factory in the manner you're describing.
Hey guys was looking around for chat channels to find some good practice games, Found a TL thread with a bunch like TLpractice and tlobs but they are empty all the time. Anyone know some good community ones for practice? looking for high diamond / masters partners.

Ayo,
Have you tried muta harassment? this will keep protoss in their base and allow you to do some damage, as a protoss player this is the #1 Zerg move i am always anticipating because of how annoying it can be.

Will there be any changes to the Season 4 map pool? Looked around and haven't seen anything yet.
edit : Looks like I'm a little early. Checking the old Season 3 posts... the new maps were announced a week before the new season started... and the maps being removed were announced 1 day before the new season. So if that same schedule holds...new maps would be shown around Oct 17th or so. And maps being removed announced on Oct 24th.
Not artosis hype or whatever. Lim Jae Duk is and will always be my favorite. I love Nestea. I've watched every game. I could write a thousand words here so I"ll just stop now.
Sorry this has nothing to do with anything else above, however I just came across a small article on razer in The West newspaper which is a very big newspaper in Western Australia.
I wouldn't have posted about this except it includes a very small section on e-sports and some quotes from mouzmana. The article.
...Professional gamers swear undying loyalty to the PC.
"It's like a tradition for me to play on PC," said Grzesiek Komincz, 17, a professional Starcraft II player better known to his legions of fans worldwide by his online moniker "mouzMaNa."
"Since I was a kid I've been playing on a computer so I kept continuing to play on the PC till this day," the Polish player told AFP by email.
So-called "Esports" tournaments, which star pro gamers such as Komincz, routinely feature more PC games than any other platform.
Prize money offered in top-tier tournaments often runs into the tens of thousands of dollars, sometimes up to $100,000, making "Esports" a viable occupation for pros, particularly in South Korea.
Tan said Razer was not limiting itself to PC gaming -- it's also expanding into console accessories for good measure.
"The entire market is growing in a crazy pace," Tan said.

Hey I like playing sc2 and all, but I am tired of the incredible amount of hacks that come with blizzard games. I've seen plenty, there's a bunch of them actually. I think they exist just as much as in the lower leagues as in the higher leagues all the way up to GM. From maphack to drophack etc.
And as far as I know there's no dectector that you can use on people to see if they hacks or not.

sorry to be an idiot but, what would having a detector do if it went off in a game? would u just DC? imho u can tell if ppl are map hacking by looking at replays and reporting to blizz or post on the TL hacking thread
I think we need hackers to hack the hacks imo. Have hackers that counter all those nasty hacks like drop hack or map hack. Any min hack detections would be swell as well.
Tbh, I dont think blizzard would even care if people started fixing their game for them. You would think by now they would implement something to make sure they have a legit copy of the game that is unaltered. Sc2 is turning out to be just like wc3. My suggestion to blizzard would be to hire a bunch of hackers under the table to develop ways of countering these illegitmate douche holes.
What they're doing now is just letting everyone hack the crud out of the game and then do a mass ban. By not dealing with the problem immediately theyre only losing more people due to all the frustration.. I think this might reflect on the sales of HotS.
Anyway, I guess I am just venting because, like many, we're fed up with this game being hacked since the beta. If blizzard really cared they'd give us the same support as they do WoW.
so i was checking out my ladder today, bronze , and i noticed one guy had many many more wins than anyone else, like 1500ish, so i decided to look at his match history every game i looked at was like 12-20 seconds long regardless of who wins, also all his opponents have real fancy names like his now i wont post his name here in case this is just a glitch in the match history, however upon further digging i noticed that his opponents also have this shady match history of all under 20 second games with nothing built by either team. TL:DR is there some way of ladder hacking involving under 20 games with nothing built and no actions and maybe somehow rigging the matchmaking system?
you guys shouldn't even worry about hackers they are like .00001 of the population. Even if you play a hacker you only lose ladder points so its not a big deal.
i am not worried i was just intrigued and couldn't figure out what was happening on my own so i figured i would ask, i never actually faced this guy, just saw his history and said huh... i know i am wasting my time thinking about it but i have a curious nature, also i did not see the above post was about hacking as well, not trying to flood the thread with hack complaints i just didn't know where else to ask and none of my more experienced sc2 buddies were on steam atm

Your looking at the match history of portrait farmers. They arent' cheating in the conventional sense, they just lose straight to bronze and then find other portrait farmers and agree who wins and leave asap. They do this to "farm" wins to get impressive portraits that would normally take years in matter of weeks. With subsequent seasons, you won't know easily tell who the portrait farmers were.
Kinda weird, but does anyone else get extremely bored watching tournaments now? Whenever I start watching something big like IEM, IPL, GSL, MLG etc. after about 30 mins I go "couldn't I be playing right now?" and I start playing instead of watching. I didn't even know that IEM was going on today or that MLG was this weekend lol. I guess it's a good thing, but it's kinda strange because I used to almost exclusively watch, and now I find it way more fun actually playing.
Ok, thanks for the info i thought it might be something like that, seems like an enormous waste of time to me but who am i to judge, its crazy there are enough people willing to do this to make it a viable way of farming the achievement, but hey its a crazy world we live in, and its also crazy that I feel satisfied having learned whats going on thanks again for clearing that up.

I think I've become kind of like that, but to a much lesser extent. If a bunch of players I don't really know are playing, or if I don't like the casters, I don't bother. Basically I've sort of boiled it down to the players I like to see most and apart from that, I don't follow too closely. It's basically the same attitude I have toward other sports I like to watch like basketball and football. If the Mavs or Niners are playing, I'm there. If not, I'll probably find something better to do.

I find some of them very same-y to watch, but I've tried to fix this by only watching when I'm really interested in the players or learning the strategies or something like that. I used to binge out on tournaments, but really can't do that anymore
The current problem with PvT is ghosts, 1/1/1 can mostly be dealt with these days now. In the PvT matchup right now shield upgrades are mostly worthless, why? Because of the EMP. But what if shield upgrades decreased the emp damage, wouldn't that make shields more available in PvT also? e.g. Shield upgrade 1, give same armor but also reduces the emp damage by 20, shield upgrade 2 give same armor to shield as previous but reduces the emp damage to 40, and last one gives 60 damage reduction to shields which means emp only does 40 damage, even if it seems like a large damage reduction imagine now lategame ghost comp beats just about anything, even if you have colossus they could just add vikings or wipe your gateway army out then kill the colossus.
Another thing, not sure if also needed but could make the emp a projectile.
Regarding the PvZ infestors has already been nerfed, I just think this one we need to wait out and it shall be fine. The biggest problem I guess is the lategame also against the broodlord and infestors, however you saw how kiwikaki dealt with it accordingly versus game two against Stephano. I don't think anything need to be done here.
What are your guys thoughts? These is just theorycrafting!

Would practically kill off early game attacks from Protoss in my opinion. You're often relying on being able to cut off the opponent's army. Attacking onto creep would be a nightmare because of the uselessness of forcefield block.
As for the air unit comment...I would think that'd force Zerg to literally go back to basics and re-write build orders. Because at present Queens are the only real early-game defence against fast Void Rays and that works because they trade quite well with them, so a couple of extra Queens will save you and no extra tech required. If you make Void Rays effective against Queens then Zerg are literally going to be forced into either getting lots of spore crawlers early game or flat out teching to hydralisk straight up to even light Void Ray harrass or risk getting totally annihilated.
Not to mention you're taking away the option of Phoenix harrass from Protoss which is easily one of the best uses of the Phoenix. They don't get used enough as it is.

I agree shield upgrades become annoyingly redundant with EMP. However I'd be careful about throwing numbers out there. Those seem rather high to me.
The question about barracks having an additional +5 seconds to be constructed... should the question of deducting reaper build time 5 seconds as well?
I open reapers in both my matchups of TvT and TvZ i usually get around 4 - 6 but since the patch of +5 seconds to rax it seems as if reapers are slowly getting wiped off the match ups.
Also note that in season 1 the build time has been nerfed so terrans cannot do 4 rax reaper against zerg.
Does anyone else feel like team Slayers aside from MMA and Ganzi are in a bit of a slump? i found Slayers to be different to other teams in that where most teams have individual players with they're own unique style. However, Slayers seems to be the only team where everyone plays in a similar fashion consistently. A couple of months ago it seemed that Slayers players were taking many tournaments by storm, placing very high in many of them with the Terrans of the team using their impressive openers and mech style and the Zergs and Protoss coming with their unique army compositions and timings. Does anyone feel that in the near future we will all experience the Slayers phenomenon of team wide innovation or was this done away with by patch 1.4?

I saw this once... and now I will share it with my friend. :D Kulas ravine had its limitations, and its huge number of cliffing issues and super-abundance of xel'naga watch towers, but it did lead to some epic games.
I remember Steppes had some cool moments. I found often that if you could, somehow, get safely to 2-base play, the game would extend all the way to 5-base play without much difficulty because bases beyond the 2nd were somewhat easy to defend, and didn't shorten the rush distance. So all my games on that map were like 7-8 minutes long or 20+ minutes long, but few in between ._.

This may be true for terrans... for zerg it's a bit of a different story given how the naturals were one siege hop apart. The only thing that map did for me is give me a violent reaction to forest tile-sets.
hey guys just want to share the news: blizzard finally announced 2 last players for blizzcon, representing russian realm (despite the fact that this realm has been disbanded just like LA and SEA) these happy men will be imba.bratok and mtw.dimaga. congratulations! it might be dubious how they basically got their spots granted for free (remember how tough competition was in europe) but whatever. they are excellent players and goodluck to them
From the perspective of a protoss player, and the functionality of Warp Gates, is it better to keep making units (Warp gate on Cooldown) or keep building warp gates and warp in only when you need the units?

Season 4 begins on the week of October 24th :D almost time! I think the leagues are locked right now, and Season 4 will begin with a 1-game placement match, and there will be a 1 week GM seeding rather than 2 weeks. Seasons will be 8 weeks each starting with Season 4.
24th so around the end of Blizzcon eh?

Possible idea for dts: If you assume a zerg player has detection dts could still be a great way to snipe tech late game due to their massive dps. Eg if you load 4 in a warp prism you could easily snipe a greater spire (1000hps) in 5-6 swipes or even a hive (2500hps) since each dt does 45 damage a swipe. How do you think this would compare to using zealots?
That sounds like a great idea, and I've seen it done, but it's high-risk-- a prism with 4 DTs in it is 700 minerals and 500 gas, and losing it could be catastrophic. There was some very impressive warp prism play using a mix of DTs and Zealots, though, by HerO in the most recent Dreamhack against IdrA, in the sort of situation you're talking about. Watching that may give you some ideas as to what you're looking for: http://www.twitch.tv/dreamhacktv/b/295296872 Game 1 starts at 55:00 Game 2 is after game 1, and is really worth watching for awesome drop play.
so say what if we changed the protoss build philosophy, instead of building units and keeping gate on cooldown you try to save the cooldown and use minerals on say more gateways and just warpin an army when you need it?
I know that some protoss in the late game will build 4-5 warpgates that they know they can't support, and keep a small money stockpile so they can always warp-in to defend drops.

but what I am going for in theory in something entirely different, basically you don't make gateway units until you need them.
After listening to SOTG members and other people talk about South Korea. I really wish I could just pack up, move to Korea and work at the GOM studio's. That would be so sick. I just love Esports and doing that would be amazing.

As far as i know their relationship is great. One lives in korea and one lives well... in the US. Hard to do things together with that distance. I am pretty sure its just distant job descriptions that stops them from doing things together. They both love starcraft, they bros, i doubt theres any hate there.

I know, but that being exactly my point. When they actually do meet, like in MLG, they don't do much together on camera. Of course, we don't know what happens off camera, but I hope they do get along (:

After day[9] fiinished his finals he took a 1week or maybe it was 2 week break and he went to Seoul to see Tasteless and they hung out all week, was lots of tweets about it for stuff they could do and what they were doing. I beleive they both went to the OSL finals or OSL group games for brood war and had some fun watching some of there old enemys and new players.
They don't make many things public they do together but im pretty sure there talking all the time as they both know so much.
They are like matter and anti-matter. If they are shown on camera together the world will get sucked into a giant black hole. Not much they can do about it. -_-
listening to sotg right now, i've had the idea in the back of my mind for a while but they've reminded me of this:
why the hell do tournaments still have a global map pool for all matchups?
that we can still see PvP on taldarim is stupid, and i'm sure we can all think of situations where race x has an advantage on map y, why not just remove them completely situationally

Dealing with disadvantages is what makes watching Starcraft so entertaining. If you eliminate components of a game based on a challenge it presents for one player over another, then your game will be pretty tame to watch. It's like unit balance: we don't want two completely equal sides fighting each other. If anyone wanted that, Blizz would have stopped making games at Warcraft 2.
Think about a real war. Battle conditions will always favour one side over the other, in any war. Someone will always hold the high ground or the choke point. Negating a disadvantage through stong play is what makes the game a challenge. Otherwise you're stuck mashing two similar blobs of units together until one blob has more guys left over than the other blob.
Dealing with disadvantages is what makes watching Starcraft so entertaining.
then by that rationale why is everyone qqing that blizzcon is using shattered temple with close positions not blocked
Because some people are babies...
And because there's a fine line between a disadvantaged map and a just plain crappy map. Close position on Shat Temp generally makes for uninspired play and promotes cheese games (which are no fun to watch IMO).
Shat trap isn't an entertaining map anymore. It used to be. We have better maps now. Blizzard maps need to die imo. ------- This is just a joke I made but it sounds like such a sexy idea.
> Mmm that's the perfect buff for HotS. Just give nydus worms the ability to > launch hydralisks across the map to any point you have vision.
Don't take that seriously but it makes me grin stupidly at the thought of having a Hydra cannon.
ok i just logged into bnet and i have +400 bonus pool compared to like yesterday
shouldn't bonus pools be locked? my brothers pool is unchanged so i'm wondering, is this a bug of some sort or is it intentional? has anyone else had this bonus pool increase after season 3 ended?
edit - btw, i'm on EU and silver league, my brother is masters
edit - my pool went down 416 points to where it was before, weird. anyway problem solved.
It's only a display bug you don't really have that much. It's been happening to people all season. You won't be given any bonus points on victory even though it displays it (unless you already have bonus pool accumulated)
Hello guys, after a hiatus from starcraft 2 I started playing again. I am having problems with knowing the timings of units; Like when they generally come out, how fast can you get to this unit etc. I am playing zerg so getting to know these things will help me a ton :p So is there a list of timings, like; First marine cloak banshee rush DT rush When the 4 gate is "supposed" to hit etc Just general timings for builds, i searched around liquipedia but I could not find anything specific like that. Thanks for answers
Most 4 gates I get come at 5:50, because they cheat (I mean, they'd die to early pool, baneling bust etc), so it's an all-in and build order win to hit the timing, but it does happen, I am not sure if that is the one called "korean 4 gate" though.
First marine is about 3:11 Cloaked banshee (standard 13 gas, second gas after fac) is around 7:30 DT timing is correct, but that's a very very thin version of the build, and will crumble to any pressure. Normally you'll see dts around 7-7:30 The 4gate timing depends from player to player completely, although you can see 3 zealot 4 stalker on your doorstep as early as 6:00.
Not even remotely surprised how off I was. I posted that when I woke up hehe. Thank you for posting the correct timings; now that i'm awake my thoughts concur with your post.
Btw guys, there is really nothing wrong with WCG RO16 guys.
These timings, I haven't played the game for so long... Good to know as I want to start playing a bit again. I will never go pro as every single opening of me is different :p And I play Protoss... I go by heart o.o Too bad really, how do you guys manage it all? Do you write it down or? FYI, I wouldn't say I'm noob ^^ I'm Diamond 1v1 pre-masters and Masters 4v4 :D Only played 4v4 when Mastersleague came out, sometimes with friends.
What an insane weekend for SC2: New units revealed, GSL finals, Blizzcon tournments...freaking amazing, and all just one week after MLG. Can't wait for Providence!
I actually hadn't realized how soon the new season was starting and have been F10 N every zvz I have. Unfortunately my MMR is so shot to hell I'm probably going to (as I deserve) requalify as plat.
Oh well, it was worth it. Lower leagues have such hilarious bm I miss that dearly.

I play over 60% zvz. I'm glad for anyone that can find that entertaining but I do not. As ladder rankings are a bit of a joke- I don't particularly care.
The sole reason I play Terran (I would actually prefer Zerg) is that I find both ZvZ and PvP to be entirely unpalatable. Although they are super awesome to watch, I just hate playing those mirror matchups. TvT is so much more comfortable to play, for me at least. I understand the distaste for ZvZ D:

hi, i just played a game on xnc. i'm a plat zerg, he's gold toss. inspired by blizzcon and zerglings in general i decide to go heavy macro with lots and lots of zerglings. we have no engagements for a good 10 minutes or so so i get up to 3 bases + 1 macro hatch and just overflood with zerglings while getting upgrades. when i'm at ~20 army food ahead, and i'm at 2-1 while he's at 0-0, i engage his army of chargelot archon and he wins with it not being close. he uses some forcefields but other than that the fight was rather microless from both our sides. i stood *no* chance what so ever.
did i screw up awfully, are zerglings forever doomed to be bad against chargelot archon or should i just have waited until i had an even bigger advantage? can upload replay if need be.

You need something more than pure lings vs. zealot/archon. Depending on zealot count banelings do wonder agains zealots. If you want to play ling style ZvP I suggest going into upgraded lings -> infestors -> ultras. Army must contain good number of banelings, and ultras are to break FFs. gl!

Sorries man. I'm sure when it happens we'll all know.
Yes he'd be more than welcome to come back. He could never participate in the GSL, almost all brood war fans would shun and despise him (as well as many players and other people involved with brood war) and at best, he could live a life constantly shadowed by the taint of the largest scandal in starcraft, if not esports.
but yes, theoretically he COULD if a team was desperate or unethical enough to sign him. And perhaps he could find tournament work by being the tournaments edge-
"Hey look who we have, saviOr! We're so damn different you have to tune in, no one else would do this!"
but of course with that comes the complete loss of respect for that tournament as time goes on.
Savior did worse than cheat. Every flippant remark about saviOr coming back is an insult on yourself. To make this statement adhere to internet standards I will conclude with: Hitler.
The trailer/advertisement on youtube uses the same trailer music SC2 did. I wonder if it's just the generic trailer music kind of thing where the trailer music maker sells it to multiple people, instead of Starcraft 2 making their own trailer music.

The Match Fixing Scandal was an incident in which Korean pro players illegally fixed and bet on professional Starcraft matches. The players were approached by online betting websites and agreed to throw games for financial gain, either from the money the websites paid them, or by betting against themselves. These activities are strictly illegal under Korean law. The 11 players involved were banned from professional gaming, and some of them face criminal charges and the possibility of jail time.
Setting aside the crisis that he very literally could have destroyed all credibility of esports, hundreds of people lost thousands of dollars etting on fixed matches. saviOr was one of the most loved progamers of all time. Imagine if Nestea was caught rigging blizzcon. No, imagine Nestea won blizzcon and over half of all tournaments he entered. Imagine he takes home 6 GSL championships for two years straight. Then he goes into a slump. His fans would be as die hard as they come. Every game they would cheer, love him and pray (even the atheists) that he would win and regain that magic he used to have).
Then it came to light that he was rigging matches. Worse- he was a broker for others to rig matches. The years of come back hopes and dreams of hundreds if not thousands of fans were fraudulent.
saviOr spit in the face of people that loved him. Remember his glory but curse his name.
So, comparing someone to saviOr, unless your context is extremely clear (His play was as brilliant as saviOr in 2006 for example); It is an egregious insult to compare someone to saviOr. Hearing he is playing amateur brood war on Afreeca or playing SC2 is undeniably interesting but if he were to return to progaming under a loophole: His fans would have to have no memory, no brains or the biggest hearts in the world.

Oh and not to go too far away from the subject of SC2- I don't know exactly when NA will start Season 4 but for SEA it has already begun. So anywhere in the next .01 to 24 hours.
How do Zergs feel about using Spine Crawlers and Spore crawlers to push against Protoss and other Zergs?
I've been using it a bit against Protoss that depend heavily on air units, creating a creep highway and parking spines and spores outside their base / attacking their outside wall off while i start trading my army for his to create a more cost effective trade and unless they've straight rushed colossus / got a fair few immortals they generally cock up a response to it.

You'll note that the normal support for overlord/spinecrawler is hydralisk due to the synergy with creep spread and the somewhat more mobile anti-air.

lol when Metal + close positions were still in the map pool I used spinecrawler pushes +mass lings.......... against Protoss of course.
it was freaking amusing because you can spread creep sooooooooooo fast and then get at his base with 4-6 spines and mass ling (if he went 4gate you hard countered it, and if he went for stargate just get hydras and push in with hydra+ling+spines)....

Nope you have to message them out of game for them to see it. Also their replay cuts off when they leave so there isn't a record of you saying it either.

I know this is the most cliché question of all time, but I must ask it.
I haven't played Starcraft is like, 3 months other than some random crap with friends in custom games. I used to be in Diamond, but it's just I'm so out of practice and I know my mechanics are shit. Even worse, I'm going through what I did when I first started playing Starcraft where I don't know what I want to fucking play. I don't want to get too attached to a race just to want to change it for HotS.
It's like, I love to play a style in every type of game ever where I keep an extremely thin line of actual defense. The best defense is a good offense, is my motto. Just constantly poking at them and attacking them and wearing them down. I think Zerg would be best, but I don't fucking know man.
@Candadar, there are droppy/harassy styles of protoss and terran play as well (as MMA and HerO are always glad to demonstrate). I think probably your best bet to find out which race you like the best to experiment in 1v1s with your friends and practice partners. Give them all a try maybe? :D
@aY I wounder if they have "Foreigner Netizen Reaction threads" on Naver :D
@Candadar, If you're looking for the ability to be constantly aggressive, go with Terran. Work on your speed and game sense until you know when and where to drop in each match-up. Zergs and Protosses have a playstyle in which being "safe" means being defensive and focusing on macro while the safe Terran playstyle has a lot of room for drops.

Raaaaaaaahhh, someone convince me.
It sounds odd because Terrans are known for their turtling as well, but Terran is a great option for a constantly attacking player. You have to watch at home and make sure to keep walls impermeable, but they really have the most options for harassment. On the other hand, ling/bling/muta is great for lightning counterattacks, punishing the opponent for being out of position, and taking advantage of small mistakes. Muta harass is great for poking and prodding each and every angle of your opponent's base. I think Terran, but Zerg if you have a distaste for the T playstyle.

Raaaaaaaahhh, someone convince me.
I hear you. All the races have a distinct feel and specialty. I think that is a big victory for Blizzard. It can be so hard sometimes....

Yeah it's Flux (Website here) Funny story my computer crashed one time and Flux was stuck on for half a day before I managed to completely delete it and restore my brightness back to normal >_> Careful with it.

Hi There is APM from SC2gears and SC2 in-game APM. its somewhat different because of games runs on faster and not on normal speed. So question is: when we are talking about APM here which one we are referring to??

On a map where the protoss can turtle on 3 bases such as taldarim, zerg has a hard time pressuring.
When it came to the protoss death ball you just need to get earlier pressure on your enemy, or just have a bigger ball of death. I would recommend infesters with parasite and fungals. expand when able and just out macro the other player. If a protoss has the ball of death and you couldn't put any pressure on them then i'd recommend a 10 pool and put early zergling pressure, 14 Hatch and 21 roaches. the main thing to worry about is making sure your always ahead in expansions and that you do a lot of early game harassment.
u cannot warpin to high ground that easily anymore because thers no vision/warp on the ramp, so u can hold a 4gate with 2 beginning sentrys and 1 gateway, but thats hard.
and so if u go for tech, it can be that the enemy just goes himself for tech, for example without any sentry so he got 200 gas more, meaning u loose colossi fight or he can go for straighter tech. for most reasons u need stalkers because of phoenix, even when he gets some probes u might win the ground fight. anyway he can also take a quick nexus and get an mineral advantage meanin u loose if u wait for any robotics unit. then there is also dts for some reason, mean if he goes phoenix/ blink/ fe he loose. Then thers charge lots into fe play, that probably wins to all but phoenix/dt.
Its just fucked up, there is no way u can scout after he gets his first stalker and u ll have to wait for observer / phoenix / wasted hallucination or and thats the best have luck.
I'm really confused at the state of the Europe ladder. I was Diamond in Beta, Season 1, Season 2 and high platinum in Season 3 as I had a break beforehand. I'm back in Diamond and every single game I've played has been against people who can't seem to win straight up games. I just played a zerg who literally built one of every single unit at some and I somehow lost, but that's because I couldn't work out how to counter what he was doing.
I don't remember Diamond being like this. I guess I need to beat builds like that to get my way to Masters, but every game I had while high plat was proper solid macro games that I usually won out. :S
Is there an approx point range to get GM, or is it still based on MMR? Playing 1.4k masters-GM players and wondering if I need to play just for enough points or not.

Haha, nice joke :D
Maybe constant bashing aganist terran from the comunity for being the most "complete" (was that the word that browder say? "acomplished"? don't remember) race?
It should eventually even itself out. Lower leagues seem to favor terran and protoss, so there might be people who choose to stay and not race change once they've gotten use t it.

It's not surprising that the two races played in the campaign are the most favored in the lower leagues. I would imagine most players will start with Zerg in HotS.
I'd guess it's mainly the frustration of not being able to micro/macro as the korean pros while having the whole community say that you are OP (based on these pros).

It's actually insane how many people think that the state of balance in korean progaming has anything to do with what they do in plat or whatever. They really feel they can't win because there are too many terran in Code S and they have to cry about that in every possible thread.
I remember reading a thread several months ago about someone who custom designs computer peripherals for disabled users. I have made many thread searches and can not find this thread. Does anyone know the contact information for the person who makes these devices?
Hey, Everyone I recently got my account banned for use of a third party program. Im pretty sure the program causing the issue was sc2gears. The weird thing is that I can't find anything that suggests that Sc2gears was a third party program. I'm hoping blizzard can tell me what it was. They told me the illegal activity was around September to October which corresponds with my use of sc2gears. I used the sc2gears apm meter I wounder in the meter itself caused the problem or if anyone else has experienced or seen other cases like this with the use of specifically sc2gears or perhaps other apm meters. Most information out there seems to be misinforming people: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2463346842 https://sites.google.com/site/sc2gears/ <- at the bottom it says sc2gears in not a 3rd party program and not cause you to get banned

It's not very cost effective, and it won't work in the middle of a battle because mules (like SCVs) have no target priority as long as there is anything else around. Maybe in the lategame, when you're base-starved or before a big battle if you've forgotten to spend your energy ... I don't know.

Some players, such as Spanishiwa, include the eggs in the control group immediately. Other players avoid doing so since the mutas might be on the far side of some turrets or thors or something and want to avoid accidental misrallies.
In a situation of protss deadball vs a terran with marines marauders ghosts medivacs and vikings should I focus fire the vikings with my stalkers or focus ground units letting my collosus die?
i think that if there are not that many vikings I shluld focus them but if there are too many i shouldt but im not sure

If you can somehow position to pick off some of the vikings before the engagement, then by all means do so. BUT, I think if you get caught and have to just straight up fight at that moment, lay down the FF and just let your collossi do as much damage as possible and your next round of warp ins should clean up the M&M
Really random but a question that been bugging me ever since I started play brood war in 2005. If SCV stands for something witch I am guessing it does, then what does it stand for if someone has an answer please share? Thanks :D

put the replay into the right folder
if you have sc2 open already, just click other tabs then return to multiplayer tab and it will get updated.
There were counter builds pre patch yo ^_^ The general idea is you want immortals and a gateway composition although I've seen HongUn hold a 1 1 1 like a boss with 4 void rays before. I'll uh.. try to fish up a build order for you but I'd recommend watching any recent PvT.
If you are a bronze to gold player looking for a team. Team Korp wants you! Come on over to channel Korp and give it a try. Look for members KrpWhitescar, KrpAzrael, KrpKuroRaven
Since there isn't a november thread, i post here. Does someone remember the name of the thread about the korean guy changed unit pathing in sc2? I believe it had a lot of pages but i can't find it.
Does anyone know how the prize money is distributed in the new GSL format? If you look in Liquipedia at the GSL November section, the prize money part still describes the old format where the code A winner gets a certain sum etc.
I was trying to test mineral patch distance from command center. So i had 8 workers mine each patch while the command center was in the air. The workers would mine the patch and I would land the command center. I noticed the time it took for the workers to realize a command center was landed and return the crystals was completely random. I think..... Anyone have any information on this?
On November 03 2011 20:26 Cillas wrote: is there a 1 1 1 counter build for protoss yet?
Really, if you get any tech up you should be fine. For me, the most important thing is to get an early expo so that you can get your economy up. I don't like nexus first builds on any map but alter, but for every other map, especially xel naga, where I seem to get 1 1 1ed every match, a 1 gate expo should hold ezpz. Once you crono about 4 sentries to hold off any early pressure, send your first stalker up to his ramp. If he has a bunker or no marauders yet, or any of those other signs of a 1 1 1, get some tech. I've heard that phoenix and colossus are both good, but i've had little to no success with either. What I like to do is either get a robo and then 3 more gates (so you have 4 total), and then crono out immortals. If he does the standard 1 1 1, you should have 2 or 3 immortals when he hits. then throw up guardian shields and force fields and just make sure to target tanks with immortals. I like going robo, because with the early scout you can't actually tell whether he's going 1 1 1 or 2 port banshee, or some thor build, or any other bs all in. Robo is super safe, since you can get out an obs for scouting, and against cloakshees. I've also had success with blink stalkers, but you have to use blink well and pick off pieces of the army as he is coming. Have all your stalkers at the xel naga tower, and then kite back with blink. If you dont do too much damage with this, just blinking in a targeting tanks probably wont be enough for you. Lastly, you could be a boss and rush mothership, and if you do it right, it will pop right before the army hits. For this build, do a one gate, no expo, super fast double gas, and then build only zealots until you start the mothership. After that, throw down 4 more gates and pump units until the ship pops. When it does, either hold off his 1 1 1 or go into the back and mass recall in your army with 2 probes for pylons. EZ win. Seriously, use this build while you still can.
Firstly, I was just wondering if anyone has insight on why blizzard chose to reveal HOTS so soon? It seems to me like WoL still isn't even finished being worked through, yet they already reveal potential HOTS changes.
But mostly (same question) I am curious as to blizzards balance approach. How exactly do they come up with these... ideas?
The second question is more simple. When professionals sit down and practice for 8 hours, what do they do? How much of their time is dedicated to build orders, replay analysis, ladder (if any), etc. etc. Curious because I've recently starting practicing a lot.

1. I'm wondering the same thing. I think it's too early to move on from WoL. As to the balance, I remember Dustin Browder saying that the game is so perfectly balanced right now that if they tried to add anything, they wouldn't change anything. Thus, they are taking a risk with hots and having a beta, to see how the metagame works out. I hope i understood your question correctly.
2. It really depends. If they're generally practicing, they might ladder some, or play with teammates. If they're practicing for a specific game, they will probably focus down on a certain thing (like if they have GSL coming up they would probably practice more vs Terran...).
Quite frankly if the SC2 community is unable to make a remotely readable unbiased wikipedia article about dan then dan doesn't deserve a wiki article at all

well the first plan was to release a collectors for every game of the trilogy, now with the 2 parts changed to mods (they remove units in mp so they don't get the expansion status from me). Also the thors model was disliked a lil with the worker repair. But the chances are still quiet good that we get a CE .
As for the Hots reveal, it was blizzcon where they give infos on their games that are in development. And their first plan was to have 6 month between the parts. (multiplayer would have stayed the same though). Anyway revealing alpha informations is quiet normal nowadays. And we knew they would release HotS in around 2 years after the wol release. But yeah HotS is still alpha, so you can see the direction in which they are going not more. And just like with any expansion, they look if something is missing somewhere and add something to fill the holes. (BW was just one giant hole filler unit wise). And WoL is pretty balanced, there are a few edges still, but its mostly one race having to do less then the other.

what does it matter how balanced WoL is when HoTS comes out. all the major tournaments are going to switch and then were back to square one in terms of balance.
Eh I don't completely agree with that. Yeah it'll be back to the basics in terms of balance but so many things like bunker build times/free bunkers , warp in storms, ONE SUPPLY ROACHES have been fixed. It's more like back to square one²
