Currently i play sc2 really casual but i think for the people who are able to play it back to back and a lot of it do get obvious mental benefits from it as well as dexterity in the constant hand practice. One the games i play the most at the moment is SSF4:AE and i currently see benefits from that as well mainly for me in the area of reaction times and maybe a little of critical thinking to hand movement that is important in the milliseconds (watching frames for animation Ques to know what your opponent will do). I think we have all seen the type of articles that talk about how everyday people who have nothing to do with video games use them as mental and pre-warm up tools for activities. The only ones i cant think of are the ones about surgeons playing games before a important delicate surgery and F1 race car drivers running through tracks in the game to ease themselves into the speed and natural flow of race track layouts.

Personally, I'd say my only side effect is watching too many streams and spending too much time in this forum. I think it's affecting my academic performance so I should limit it accordingly, I just don't LOL.
