Ret/Grubby finals-- Grubby upsets Stephano, beats TLO, and upsets Ret. Am I insane? yes. Am I loyal? eh-- I mostly love Grubby because of his epic W3 past and how incredibly nice he is!

I am actually more likely to watch this tournament because the casting will be awesome having watched it be successful in Take's events, the players are just so precise in their play by play analysis and like Nony said, it's always good to get the players' personalities out there.
it was intended to go Bo5 from the beginning, but since we do only have 1 day we decided to start out with Bo3s. Third place match might be played online later on.

Yea i agree. Player casters almost always do as good if not better than actual casters. Good addition to the event.

This is the best thing ever. Bring in the real experts!!!!!!!! Seriously, all the LANs should do this. I mean, when the players are already there, use them, let them show what they know! You get to know your idols better = profit. This should be the standard for such events. Remember the Homestorycups! Best watching experience ever!
Look like a pretty easy tournament for Stephano to win. I don't see him losing to either grubby TLO or Whitera, and he has Nerchio figured out in ZvZ badly.

Thats the plan, but if it gets too late (games lasting too long etc.) we will skip the game for 3rd place and have it played later online.

I really enjoyed the similar "set up" at Homestory Cup. I think this will be pretty awesome.

Stephano's ZvP is pretty sick, apart from RA which special Tactics make a bit hard to predict, I don't see a lot of P that can beat him. As for the tournament, I'd say:
Kas > Ret Nerchio > Socke Steph > Grubby Ra/TLO I don't have a clue
Nerchio > Kas Steph/RA dunno, Steph TLO I think Stephano would win, but Ra and TLO are hard to predict
Then, if it's Steph against Nerchio, I don't see Nerchio winning.
not sure if Nerchio is imitating Fry meme, or if he always looks like that
nice tournament lineup, single elimination sucks though. plus, I don't see any of these players beating Stephano in his current form. I'm sure we will see some great games though protoss fighting!
Sad to see Such nice lineup, prizepool and idea get ruined by single elimination system. It will be over before it begins. Ah well, good luck with the event!
The amount of time i'm willing to devote to watching the SC2 is limited (and GSL wins out 99 times out of 99) but i'm gonna make an effort to tune in to this just because of the 'unfortunate' casting setup. I'm sure the most will be made of it :D

I think you didn't get the memo that all games will be casted... If it was double elimination it would be impossible.

i think they meant that endrey is going to cast with 1 of three players right?
Looks like a great tournament! My bet is definitely on Stephano let's hope for some good games by all! Player casters are always lots of fun too! Can't wait
LOL the pic looks like it's from davinci ;-) if only socke would play "godlike" everything would be fine. Hm but to take it serious I thin whiteRa got this. TLO might be his strongest opponent. So I guess its TLO, GRUBBY, RET ... but RA will win, he is the god of the sun ^^
Kas, Ra and all three zergs are the ones taking this in my alternative universe. Socke and TLO really should't win a single game. WhitRa can theoretically best Stephano but it's too unlikely IMO.
Kas vs Ret I've no idea but I'm betting on Kas despite him tending to choke (even more so than Ret). If Kas go through Nerchio stomp him but if Ret advances, it's 50-50 (yes Nerchio is a supposed ZvZ god but Ret is a good ZvZer). I'm entirely not sure on nerchio though, he's too inconsistent in LANs.
So to sum up Stephano to final and then... I've no idea who'll join him in the other side. All three are too inconsistent and Socke is not on the same level as the others.
This is a really terrific group of players. We all know they are all good, but some of the...."underdogs" always have the capability of coming out of nowhere and stealing the whole thing. Nerchio and Socke, you can't count them out. Sometimes they hit beast mode and wreck stuff. White-Ra you can never overlook. He hits a good day and your prize money is gone before you know it. Definitely a watcher from me. Should be a lot of fun.
I am glad to say I instantly recognized all 8 of these players, and @iNcontrol, they're all European It's definitely not "unfortunate" that there will be player casting, from a spectator perspective.

WTF?? Socke has an positive overall record against Nerchio and won the last two matches (EU Bnet Inv. and Shoutcraft Inv. II). He also won the last match against Kas at IEM Cologne.
I´m not even saying, that he is the favourite in the matches (they are even IMO), but saying, that he won´t even get a single map is ridiculous. I know, that Socke gets normally underrated, but this is truly laughable.

well he seemed to be new in the scene so just ignore him id say
White-Ra vs Socke final. I am calling it. White-Ra (somehow) seems to always take out TLO, and he can pull something weird out for a BO3 win against stephano. Socke is the kind of player that can dissapoint for a while and then suddenly come in and take out everyone, I think this tournament will be like that, especially because this format reminds me of the SHOUTcraft invitational which Socke has won twice in a row now.
I don't see TLO doing well with Zerg. He's good and quite unpredictable but his Zerg mechanics are quite far below what's necessary to take down all these world class players. I think he'd be better off with Terran.

Grubby or Stephano will win this ! Nerchio and Kas are not doing so well during of line tournaments ret is IMO a little bit overrated White-ra is good but can't beat steph or Grubby Socke can go to the final or just lose 2-0 ! TLO totally overrated !
When i saw the players i was like cool stephano and grubby both in (my two fav. players). Shame they will be facing each other in first round. Then i looked at brackets. Then i went sad. :/

Haha, unfortunate? It is the highlight of the entire event
ALL games will be casted. The first one will be done all by myself (I doubt a player wants to cast before he even has played).
I said it's unfortunate because commentators should also be good hosts in terms of presentation etc. and having 2 instead of one is also a good thing to go for.
We replaced the picture with grubby (old EG one) with a new suitable one. When the picture was made yesterday, I wasnt paying too much attention because I'm very sick atm (my thyroid gland is shutting down but I can't start taking new medication, because of unknown side effects and I need to be at least able to be there on site - I mean, we have worked so hard for months to get to this point and we simply can't allow this whole thing to fail)

Haha yes, pro gamers are the best casters\co-casters. Those are awesome news. I was recently watching Grubby's WC3 commentry and enjoyed the hell of it. Now I literally can't wait for this event to start.
Haha you might want to edit that. Put a positive spin on it instead of making it sound like you are depressed. How about saying "Casted by caster x, TLO, Grubby... Etc!!"

Mmh. White-Ra vs Stephano, if it happens, will be BO5 so I really don't see White-Ra taking it. I think Stephano should win the whole thing
People underestimate Kas when he is actually a beast. If you watched EG Masters cup you know what im talking about. So if Stephano beats Grubby ( who got exponentally better lately ) i predict a Stephano vs Kas finals .
Not long ago Stephano 3 - 0 Nerchio in MSI pro cup finals and Ret has a pretty bad ZvZ so i think only Kas has a real shot at Stephano.
Every tournament has it's upsets, I expect this tournament to have one aswell.
I think Stephano will have one of his toughest matches this year, against Grubby. I believe you can consider Stephano, Dimaga and Nerchio the three best Europeans zerg, if not the best foreign Zergs at the moment(along with Idra). Grubby has been winning matches against Nerchio and recently won from Dimaga by 3-0. Therefore expecting a 2-1 win for Grubby.
Prediction:
Nerchio > Socke Ret > Kas Grubby > Stephano White-Ra > TLO
Grubby > White-Ra Nerchio > Ret
Grubby > Nerchio (probably 4-3..since their matches are generally so close)

ret overrated :O? This guy has the best macro in the game proven by that sq thread which conducted tests to find out who macro's the best.
I think the winner of White-Ra vs Stephano in round 2 will win it all.
I think it will be Stephano, but White-Ra does have a very long history of surprise tournament results.
Ret in the finals of the other side. Ret could take it vs White-Ra, but not vs Stephano IMO.
Odds to win: Stephano: 3/2 WhiteRa: 4/1 Ret: 4/1 Socke 6/1 Grubby 8/1 TLO, Kas, Nerchio - 10/1
Bo5 and Bo7 for semi and finals make upsets less likely.
The bracket does seem a bit unbalanced, the side with Stephano, White-Ra, TLO and Grubby is far stronger IMO. Especially with Grubby having been in Korea now for quite some time.
I haven't seen Kas play much lately, but his 80% win-rate on EU ladder makes me tentative on my 10/1 for him.... but I've haven't seen him do well in tourney's while travelling and until a pro show's differently ladder results don't necessarily translate to tourney success. Stage play is another beast to be conquered, and until you slay that dragon, you'll always have to deal with it.
Amazing field of players though, can't wait to watch!

well.. there are only 8 players in the field, but ya it could be lower for sure maybe closer to 15 to 1. I love TLO though, and the event is in Germany... and he is German... so home field advantage helps :D
It's a bit sad that the two favourites (Stephano and Grubby) are playing in the first round. But at least we'll see Stephano play vs a protoss who has trained in Korea (although just for a month).
"Cast: Unfortunately were not able to get a suitable co-caster for the main english stream, so we are going to do a dual cast with some of the players. 3 players at least already agreed to it. Lets just make the most of it."
best part. i love hearing the players' perspective.
Hard to root for/against anyone in particular, but I really hope that Grubby or TLO make it, as they both are cool players and and lack a bigger tournament win. I'm predicting a ZvZ finals, not sure who's going to face Stephano tho due to the coinflippiness of that match-up.
Players cocasting is amazing btw! gl with the tournament
Sick lineup. Pretty much the best of Europe duking it out. Can think of only a handful of players who could join that lineup and not appear outclassed.
Player cast is awesome, but players casting who still have to play on the same day is not that awesome imo, casting can be intensive and 1 guy sitting behind a mic for 1.5 hour is going to have a minor disadvantage over the player who didnt, then again its players their own call but I would never ask a player who still has to play on the same day to cast ~~
Other than that , looks like an awesome tourney, hard to make a prediction, certainly stephano vs grubby is so hard to call and I'm not very sure about Kas his TvZ, his other 2 match-ups are ridiculously good though, but I'ma say kas vs stephano final, or ret vs stephano~
Nooo, why are TLO and white-ra seeded for first round?!
If Ret is on his game, itll be steph vs Ret, otherwise, probably Socke vs step finals. Stephano wins either way (unless white-ra or TLO wildcard their way to the top)
The prize money distribution seems a bit weird. 3rd place wins you only 250$ more and also 2nd place prize seems a bit too close to 3rd comparing that one has to win one more round with this line-up to get there. Anyway, everything else seems really good. Glad to see more events where all games are streamed.
Going to say Stephano vs Kas final with Stephano winning, Ret could make it to the final but considering how bad his zvz is Stephano takes it easily, that's my prediction.
SICK! I hope more tournaments like this pop up on a regular basis. All notable players and a decent prize pool. Single elim too. I don't have time for X2 elim. Quite intriqued to see TLO's play.
Nerchio wins versus Socke Ret wins versus Kas Grubby pulls the upset and wins versus Stephano WhiteRa wins versus TLO Ro4 Ret defeats Nerchio Grubby defeats WhiteRa Ret wins the entire tournament.

I think the right side of the bracket is way stronger than the left side. Especially the Grubby vs Stephano match would be final-worthy. And i am sooo happy to see TLO returning to Zerg ♥ The match against White-Ra is going to be epic, 2 of my absolute favorite players bringing the pain :D
Socke - Nerchio Ret - Kas Stephano - Grubby White-Ra - TLO
Yesterday, the manager of team Millenium.SC2 said on Millenium TV : "Hum, first, i just wanted to send Adelscott to IPL4 EU qualifier, but the admin asked me why Stephano was not coming. he said on stream against stephano that his zerg is better than his terran currently (his zerg acc is also ranked higher with better stats than his terran acc)
The opening games are super hard to call: Socke vs Nerchio I would say that Nerchio is better, but he is terrible offline in general, and Socke seems to calm at LAN events.
Ret vs Kas While Ret can beat almost anyone when he plays to his fullest, he can also play terrible (for the best example of this, see his ASUS ROG series vs Whitera), while Kas, like Nerchio, is an online monster... So I have no idea which Ret will turn up, and who will win as a result of this.
Stephano vs Grubby Stephano is the clear favourite, but Grubby's PvZ has looked amazing recently, I think this will be the best game of Ro8.
Whitera > TLO. I love TLO, but its been months since I've seen him play that well.

Nerchio is hardly terrible on LAN. He won WCG Poland (above MaNa and Tarson). Placed second at SEC behind ToD. Won his group at IEM Cologne without dropping a map against HuK, Moonglade and Tarson.
unfortunate White-Ra's visa was refused. So whitera cant participate in the Battle in Berlin, which is sad because all flights were already booked by him

I'm wary of all of the players. Stephano and Ret are two of the best Zerg players in the world and ZvZ is already pretty random so those games can go either way. White-Ra and Socke are the two Protoss players who I have the hardest time against since they have a lot of timing pushes at unexpected moments and besides that I have a weak ZvP. TLO always plays oddly so I can't predict what he will do but I think he is the weakest of the player pool. I have played Grubby a lot recently and he has beaten me quite a bit however I think I finally found a way to play against him so it shouldn't be that bad. Kas is one of the best Terran players in Europe however he plays one style so if I play my game against him I should win. The favorite of the tournament is without a doubt Stephano taking into account his recent accomplishments. - NERCHIO
There are a lot of good players. I don't see anyone really scary but they could almost all beat me. The scariest is Nerchio, White-Ra, Grubby and Ret I think. I haven't seen Socke play for quite some time so I don't know if he has good form. I think I can win this tournament - not easily, but it's possible and I hope I will! - STEPHANO

Cast: Unfortunately were not able to get a suitable co-caster for the main english stream, so we are going to do a dual cast with some of the players. 3 players at least already agreed to it. Lets just make the most of it.
Unfortunately!?!? That's just awesome and so much better than just a random co-caster!

We work on a replacement.
No, no, no... No. NO!
I wanted Stephano VS WhiteRa so bad... Can't wait to see who's gonna face TLO instead of him, though... Please make it insteresting! Gonna be late for a B-Day Party to watch these guys and I need a Hell of a Show to wash down the guilt.
For the replacements I think Osho and Mana would be the most obvious choices, especially Mana because he only missed the qualification by inches, is a damn good player AND a neighbour of germany, so he won't have any visa issues, not sure about osho though
Hmmmm a good european Protoss replacement for White-Ra...
SaSe (but unfortunately too far away in Korea), NaNiWa (also too far away in Korea) MaNa (awesome, nothing else to say), ToD (I heard he is pretty damn good) or HasuObs (is from Germany and fits into the tourney, btw amazing player)
cannot believe of another replacement which comes close to White-ra as those five (at least concerning european toss players)
Euro-War! I like best-of-region tournaments. Need more Goody insanity for a "Battle in Berlin" tournament though, lol. (Not that I'd actually replace any of the lineup, given Grubby was a qualifier, though)

Nooooooooooooo. Was looking forward seeing him cast if anything :/ Shit happens...

ToD is in Korea SaSe is in europe next weekend, if i hasent already made it back. HasuObs should've been the replacement IMO.

GAH how can i be denied White-ra's casting SNEAK him into Berlin if we must......But a replacment probably Mana or HasuObs. Maybe HasuObs since hes germans and you know...hes good anyway
MaNa is too short notice? Mousesports has enough money to send him and it's only a Saturday. I'm sure he could go if only he would feel like it It's a shame that he won't be there. I'm excited to see whoever replaces him though - I hope it's someone worthy of White-Ra.
I'm guessing it's going to be Hasuobs since everyone in Germany loves him especially managers. I don't want to be a dick since he's a great player but I don't feel he's on the level of the rest.

Since SaSe is playing his code A match on monday, I doubt he will travel to Germany today I guess Hasu would be the obvious choice too, unfortunately that will mean a German "team-kill" in the first round. Damn it, the European protosses are too ambitious >.<

Why doesnt WhiteRa hire an immigration lawyer and get citizenship in a developed country so he doesnt have to deal with visa issues?
tbh left line bracked is sick and right is ultra easy for stephano nerchio-socke and ret-kas all could be finals stephano is already waiting in finals.....
ANYWAY im looking forward for tomorrow !!! GL ALL!

are you kidding me ? Goody just GGs against stephano every time his first push fails ! There is no way Goody can beat him ! Exept if goody as some new strategies comming from space !

while grubby's improved a ton since korea he's still nowhere near stephano's level. only player that has a chance is nerchio imo

he is on this level and yes you are just a dissapointed dick

Did you see the finals of Grubbys own tournament a week ago or so? Grubby manhandled Dimaga. I'd still put my money on Stephano, but I don't count Grubby out.
So it's quite likely that we'll see 3 zergs in the semifinals considering White-Ra couldn't make it. European terrans really seems to be struggling right now.

Funny, because he was one of the very few foreigners, that could actually defeat Stephano (the favorite to win this tourney) in a BoX since he is on his winning streak.

Socke has a shot, if he has a really good day. His PvZ is one of the best outside Korea. Kas has also a chance, if he can finally translate his online success into lan performance.
Grubby should be never counted out. He is improving fast lately and has more lan experience than anyone.
Steph has definitely the best chances out of everyone, but he isn´t unbeatable, especially in a tournament as stacked as this.
Imho if Nerchio can win against Socke (its a bo3 and Nerchio said himself that he doesnt like to play ZvP) than he got good chance to win the whole thing. I dont know if anything changed but last time I saw him he was a monster in ZvZ ^^
Kas - Always seems to be near the top of the EU ladder, solid player... heard he gets nervous infront of crowds though, been interesting to see how he fairs.
TLO - Since his injury, he has never been the same, can't see him winning it sadly, but i hope he does well.
Grubby - Got 4th In ESWC... I would say he could do well, mabye win it... but only if he can beat stephano, which is unlikely
GoOdy - Although he is pretty well established, don't know that much about him, what i have seen, he hasn't impressed me though
Socke - Every time i seem to watch him, he wins... But i think that run will end, If he plays on top form, he can get to the final, if not.. can't see him getting past nerchio
Nerchio - With Whitera gone, i think he is the only player that can stop stephano... Last time they played each other was in the final of the MSI pro cup 3, with stephano winning 3-0
Stephano - Heavy favourite... Highest earning foreigner, probably one of the best aswell, can't see him dropping many games, never mind sets.
Ret - Used to really enjoy his play.. sorta fell away recently though..
Overall - Stephano will most likely win this, nerchio has a 1% chance, although you can never count out Ret.

Don't really agree with that. ThorZain would be the best player there and he's a europe terran.
going to bed now - asleep in prolly 45 mins - getting up 4 hours later - GL HF - to, ya ... basicly everybody involved hoping for a good tournament - BE PATIENT WITH YOUR PITCHFORKS

And the stream... why not twich or own3d tv, which are especially made for things like this? It`s hard to watch self made streams...
Just because you dont find the information it doesnt mean there are no informations
Yes, it kind of does. Nothing on the home page, nothing on the stream page, nothing in the OP. Of course the information is somewhere, there's going to be at least one person who knows what's going on, but it's about making it available to all the viewers.
This is BS, us on the west coast had to get up at 5am on a Saturday to wait 2 hours...kinda discourages an international audience if you mess it up this bad.

Indeed, i understand having a HD pass (don't know if the sound problems occur on the HD stream too), but at least make it watch-able/listen-able
it sounds like the casters are being picked up by a floor mic. If you want people to buy ur HD stream then it helps if the sound on ur free stream is half decent... even on gom's free stream you have good audio even if you can't see shit ;p
At least we know that they are using that account as the camera .
The caster has a good english and it's quite understandable even though he has a considerable accent but the low quality mic makes him sound like shit.

I can't listen to it with my headset on, i have to put it on like 2% sound to listen to it without hurting my ears.
Hes not very good, what did all those zerglings do in the first game? You could see on the mini map them running around the protoss base and he never panned over to show us

Lul, i guess you better not cheese at this tournament: They are sitting right on the stage with the observer-screen behind them... thats about as far from a sound-proof booth as you can get.
Stream was a bit underwhelming with the sound problems all weekend, but the tourney looked nice and well run. Good job, hopefully it isnt the last event of this nature you guys host.
abit disappointed with the stream, audio simply ruined everything for me - I can deal with pixelation, but a constant loud humming blasted into your ears, i just cannot tollerate.. It actually sounded like the whitenoise that players get for sound cancelation was transmitted onto stream..
The german commentary for the key match I can tolerate - Shit out of your control does happen, and it was a german event, it wasn't optimal though.
However, testing your sound before the event should be something that you can control and I really hope that the organizers take this to heart for next time they arrange an event - Or at least realize that it's terrible at some point during the tournament

recap so far:
on site awesome - on stream = teh sucks
I watched the premium stream and it didn't suck. I only heard the humming sound when there was no program. I don't like German (Denglisch) casting, but that's a matter of taste, and thanks to Khaldor an English alternative was available. Stream video quality was brilliant and there were practically no freezes/crashes/lagging. Considering that even the greatest of tourneys (GSL, MLG, TSL) had their fair share of shit happening, especially in the beginning, this one went quite smoothly. Props!
