January 27th, mark your calendars well, for the time quickly approaches and the arduous road to crowning the best team in Korea will begin. The battlefield on which the best teams in Korea pit themselves against each other already smolders, the ground soaked with the blood, tears, and Pocari Sweat of both champions and the fallen alike. Many teams may enter the arena, but only one may emerge the champion. Only one team in Korea can hold the crown, and that team lives a hard life. One of long days, low wages, and underappreciation: The Life of a SCV. Pushed aside by many as "falling apart", Team SCV Life shall rise from the ashes in 2012 and take the throne for their own. No team can stand against the might of TSL, and I will tell you why.
Han Lee Seok, 한이석, TSLaLive, whatever you want to call him. He's proven himself as one of the 8 best players in the world. How? Look at the GSL November results. Only 8 players got to remain in Code S, the most prestigious tournament in the world. Who was one of them? aLive. More importantly though, look at his hair: It used to be black, and he was constantly under the radar, sliding by in Code S. What color is it now? Yellow. You know who else gets yellow hair when they go beast mode?
Yeah, aLive is a Saiyan. Would you want to play a Saiyan in Starcraft? I didn't think so. Just wait until he grows his hair even longer. It's been scientifically proven that once Saiyans get longer hair, they get better at everything they do. The main reason everyone is afraid of Saiyans is because they're from space. They're the best fighters in the universe. Afraid already? I thought so. We're just getting started.
See that face? That's the face of a champion. Scratch that, not just any champion, but the Super Champion. That's right, that's TSLPolt, the only Super Champion in all of Starcraft 2. He plays for TSL. He is so mighty that many fans pretend not to know who he is, for fear of his awesome wrath. His favorite unit? The Marauder. That's right. The Marauder. The unit that everyone, Terran Protoss OR Zerg is afraid of. Where does he go to school? Seoul National University, the best school in Korea. His brain is huge, the average person only uses 10% of their brain, but Polt uses the whole thing. He's always thinking up strategies to beat the other team, EVEN WHEN HE'S SLEEPING. Look:
Polt doesn't even trust his computer. He uses his brain. He's THAT smart. Scary isn't it? His name is even an anagram for Plot. He's THAT far ahead of you. He even thinks up strategies for his teammates, like:
Ok, he might be a small, baby elephant, but he's still an Elephant, and he's in the room. Symbol is the best Zerg on TSL. Do you know why he's the best Zerg on TSL? He came from Brood War. He played for Hwaseung Oz. What other great Zergs played for Hwaseung you might ask? Well, not mentioning PirateZerg, MoustacheZerg, or OzSucksBallsWithoutMe, you have the one, the only, the Tyrant: LEE JAEDONG
That's right, Symbol learned from Jaedong himself the secrets of the Zerg race. You can bet your shiny new TeamLiquid shirt he won't let his team down. That's not to mention the other big Brood War Zerg on the TSL roster, HyuN:
Already making good on his promise to prove himself to the community within 3 months, HyuN and Symbol are ready for their rise in 2012. With these two on the team leading the way in hard work and dedication there's nothing they can't accomplish.
Cyrano, the lone Protoss on the TSL roster is finally ready for his debut. Training in a cave in secret with Coach Lee for months, Cyrano has been honing his skill for the advent of 2012. The Artosis Pylon of TSL, Cyrano has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but if he couldn't handle it Coach Lee would not have hand selected him for this task. Under the watchful eye of Coach Lee, Cyrano has been learning from not only the TvP monster that is Polt, but also with the incredible Zerg talent of Symbol, HyuN and RevivaL. Coach Lee's plan to restructure his team is finally coming to fruition after months of hard work, which brings me to my next point: It's no secret that one of the main reasons of successful Brood War teams was the superb coaching, so who better to lead this amazing team than a former Brood War Coach?
Led by former MBC Game Heroes Coach Lee Woon Jae, you don't have to worry about decisions like you do with Incredible Miracle's coach. Most Starcraft 2 coaches appear to bend to the will of their players, but not Coach Lee. Coach Lee isn't afraid to cut players from the team because they don't preform. He's focused all of his effort in 2011 to hone his team to razor sharp skill levels, and it's time for them to shine in 2012. Coach Lee believes in his players so much that he was the first coach to offer salaries to his players.
Only one team can emerge victorious and stand atop the pile of nerd bodies slain in the fighting. Only one team can hoist the gleaming trophy overhead and celebrate. Every team will go home and get drunk on soju, but only one team will enjoy it. That team, my friends, is TSL. Be afraid, other teams, for Coach Lee and his mighty squad of virtual Adonis' will be after you. You cannot run, you cannot hide, only shrink before the might of TSL.
Nice post as always Virgil! I believe TSL is one of the strongest teams on GSTL, but after last seasons disappointment I don't want to get my hopes up even if it's basically a whole other team than back then.
Symbol/HyuN is going to have to be a complete ace in order for TSL to have a chance. Alive and Polt don't really stand a chance to other ace players like MVP and Leenock imo.
tsl needs a good protoss for my respect (granted polt and hyun already have it the team as a whole does not) without a solid protoss in the house the question must be raised of "how easy are these guys going to be sniped" also, me protoss bias xD that said i think slayers is going to win big this gstl (especially if they get to use huk/idra for EVEN MORE DIVERSITY!)

TSL always produces good players. their coach is experienced. aLive is one of the top 5 terrans(witout his nerves) Symbol impressed me with his play in various online-tourneys. Hyun seems to have no big problems with his switch(code a lolol) Revival never plays rly terribly bad and Polt is also pretty good...^^
I love that we have this post in SC2. I disagree, (I still haven't decided which Korean team to cheer, the team that gets a spot in my sig) but I don't think it will be TSL, but we need moar awesome hype threads. Shame I can't see any of the pictures (bad the super sayien) due to shitty school, but ah well. Great post.
I'm still wondering who the protoss is. If you are saying he is a former bw coach. Then I can only suspect someone like Zeus or Kingdom. But only Zeus was a coach. For sure he would be someone from way back.
The new TSL Protoss is a BW coach? I thought that he's a dark horse, but thought that Coach Lee is meant by "BW Coach"? I have no clue about BW, so someone could enlighten me pls?
It reminds me of a bw team hyppe thread, except those werent taken as a joke and were serious. Your reasons are pretty dumb and i cant tell if its a joke or youre seriosu
Fun read, and the scary thing is that you may be right. Coach Lee can bring up good players, it's a matter of fact. Alive is way better than what he shows on stage, if he solves his nerves issue he'll be huge. Polt is always Polt, and the mysteryous shadow from Ayur could be an ace in the hole.
Now all they need is to poison DRG and cut IM's van wheels.
If TSL wins all of GSTL i will swallow a sword and post the video on youtube. But in all fairness i don't think they can match Slayers, MVP, OGS and their top players will just get sniped but lower level teams. i don't believe they have enough depth to win the league. BUT if they do it would be a great story for 2012

But depth doesn't really matter in the sc2 team league system
TSL has let me down too many times in the GSTL for me to look forward to this upcoming season.
Coach Lee has proven he can't be trusted in big time situations. Playing three Terrans against Creator worked out really well for him in the playoffs of season 1...
Neh they won't MVP/Slayers have the deeper roster and that matters. Then there is Powerhouse IM who's currently showing that it's more then only Nestea and MVP. oGs looking solid aswell ofc FXO who just tear stuff up with excelent players, To much competition now if they had players like PirateZerg, MoustacheZerg, or OzSucksBallsWithoutMe ... then i would blindly agree.

I have confidence that although TSL has had it's fair share of misfortune and setbacks lately they will have greater success than their player rooster, at a first glance, may suggest.
They are lean, they are mean, they are hardened by setbacks and knit together by adversaries.
That is what I hope at least, or they could be discouraged by their ordeals and lose all confidence (have we seen a team like that lately?).
Destiny is balancing on a knife's edge, dominate with your will or be dominated by an other!
mhhhh dont really like TSL maybe symbol but thats it... But thats not that what i want to say. What i want to say is its awsome you write something like this i would love to see more posts like this (but then OGS favored) they totally hype up the gstl!
"But he's an elephant, and he's in the room" won the article, in my opinion ^^
Anyway, I've been watching TSL for a while now, and I think people are underestimating them. They're led by a superb coach and have an all around strong (well, we don't know about Xxxxxx yet, do we?) roster. Any Zerg that practiced with Jaedong is a Zerg to watch out for, in my opinion, and Polt does have a GSL trophy. We shall see.

My money is on a retired BW player or one of the leftovers from the disbanding of the 3 BW teams. A high-level amateur-turned-pro may also be a possibility.
Ugh. The plot thickens. FXO Boss knows so much, yet only teases us once again.
The shine and polish of the post does not cover up the fact that you are, in a way, making it painfully obvious how unlikely the success of TSL in the team league truly is. I'd say good cases can be made for the triumph of Slayers, oGs, MVP, NSHoSeo, and particularly the recently on fire FXO. TSL is a long shot by a big margin, and your choice of evidence that supports the conclusion is quite lacking. DRG will all-kill TSL, mark my words. See what I did there?

Haha, fair enough good sir, I'm only worried that the flippant tone of the post only makes TSL seem even less defnsible as a strong team. Time will tell :D

I completely disagree, TSL has the strongest lineup for their size of any team by far.
As a TSL fanboy, I feel kind of obligated to post in this thread.
To be honest, TSL is not a strong team on paper. The only player to achieve a notable individual result is Polt, winner of the super tournament, with aLive's Ro8 finish in the GSL November being the second best GSL result.
Despite this, however, TSL went 5-0 in the Group stages of the GSTL Season One, against teams like MvP, oGsTL, and SlayerS. More notable is how each series played out; In every Bo7 series but one, a single member of the team got three or more kills, and it was a different member each time. PuMa in their match against Prime, Killer vs. Slayers, RevivaL vs. oGsTL, and finally Clide in a surprising all-kill of MvP. TSL was eventually knocked out of the playoffs by Prime, whose secret weapon Creator (seriously, I picked him for my fantasy team and they wait until the playoffs to use him...) closed the series out with an astounding four kills, but they showed excellent results throughout the group stages, and could certainly have taken the entire tournament.
TSL does not have a deep roster, and the closest thing TSL has to an ace player is the unassuming terran aLive. This is in contrast to teams like MvP, who rely on their strongest players to pull through in the GSTL, as well as teams like oGsTL and SlayerS, who have a deep roster full of GSL stalwarts. Unlike those teams, TSL is more than the sum of its parts, and that is why they are going to win the GSTL.
TSL was impressive that one time in the GSTL. The players individually weren't amazing but together they were. So yes whatever the team/coach was doing, they will probably be able to keep it up.

I hope the fanboys of oGs, SlayerS, IM, and other SC2 teams step up their article-writing game. The small, tight-knit, talented BW community made some epic threads for their own BW teams. Surely the larger SC2 community can compete with their article-writing prowess, perhaps rivaling or maybe even exceeding the quality of the BW articles.
Come on guys. Give me more excuses to not pay attention in class

TSL fighting!
My only issue with this sort of reasoning is that it dwells in the past, and if there is one thing we can be quite sure of in regards to the strengths of Korean teams/players it is that they learn quite fast. It seems that during the first few seasons of the GSTL that certain teams/coaches understood the proper dynamics of the team league matchup, and their player choices gave them edges over opponents that were superior in terms of statistics. I'm not so sure that that is the case this upcoming year, as it seems Gomtv has set up a revised team league with an even greater level of compeition. And those Korean teams have been studying, mark my words.

I agree with this post. Last GSTL teams like TSL and Hoseo had amazing GSTL seasons, exceeding the expectations of many fans. But I think one of the problems is that TSL has been bleeding players for a long time now. Puma and JYP are now on EG, Killer is now teamless, and Clide is on Slayers. But maybe TSL can pull out some more surprises this season.

Dont forget about Rain switching to Fnatic and Fruitdealer and Tester to Startale!
guys team MVP won the last gstl for a reason. fucking keen, sc, drg, and genius. duh and maybe startale. ogs has strong players but not a good team imo same for im and slayers maybe too but im leaning more towards mvp and startale.

I agree in that MVP and SlayerS have much better depth, but oGs and IM, IMO, have much greater chances of members of their team all-killing or winning multiple games in a row.
I loved TSL when they rose up after losing like 4 players and destroyed their GSTL group, but now that they've lost Killer and Clide I don't really care for the team. I like revival but otherwise meh. I'd like them to do well but I think i'll be cheering for another team.
I actually cheered for TSL last season when coach lee said that revival was sacrificing his individual results in order to train solely for team matches but playoffs came and they lost instantly LOL after owning up regular season
the xxxx is way to much of a tease! I REALLY hope TSL succeeds because Mr.Lee is one of the most caring managers/coaches out there, and does everything he can to help his players. I really like the TSL line up right now and can;t wait to see what is in store for them in the future.
Guys I can't find Xxxxxx on TLPD... does he have any other nicknames?!?
Btw, no way in hell is TSL winning a GSTL. 0 chance (at this very moment), I'll be the first person to bump this thread and quote myself if I'm wrong.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic/overhyping on purpose or what... But alive is definitely not top 8 in the world, he's not even top 5 terran.
Haha excellent article Virgil. When I saw the title of the thread I just knew it was you who made this. (You are the only TSL fan on this website after all). I definitely can't deny that no team has overcome adversity more than TSL. Every time TSL suffered from player defections there were always new players who stepped up their game and brought TSL to higher levels of strength. Coach Lee has an eye for talent and although I won't go as far as saying TSL is gonna win the GSTL, I am expecting them to outperform expectations in the coming season.

Someone told me once that being a TSL fan is like being a STX fan.
Well even if the team looks a little weak on the eye, since Lee worked with alot of broodwar stars, I'm sure that when the big bulk of sc1 players is gonna switch, he will have a team with alot of potential gosu players. I also think that he is already in touch with some bw guys , why would he otherwise completely change the team ethics which led to killer and clide leaving. If he had no backup plan , he would cling on to his players instead of making big changes in how the team operates.

95% of the forums: "If I were IM coach, it would be Happy, Losira, Nestea and MVP EVERY GAME! Protosses? Bah who needs them... rookies? Nah, our Fab 4 will forever be the best players in the world!... burn out? Well Mvp has been playing fine with wrist injuries since 2010 and Nestea never burns out anyway (according to Artosis)!".
On topic though, I'd really be interested to see how the revamped TSL looks like. It was so sad seeing them have less players than freaking ZeNEX at the Blizz Cup finals.
You forgot Revival, who did reasonably good in the last GSTL, but without Clide, Killer, and JYP, they look to be one of the weaker teams in GSTL.
oGs is a team of champions(or at least finalists) but they haven't get deep runs in GSTL, I believe they made round of four in GSTL May? But I root for oGs anyway!

Hopefully oGs has a shot to do better though now that thestc is back and supernova has improved, plus they recruited ForGG.
TSL are a great team and their performances show a real passion for the team, great chemistry, a dedicated practice regimen and meticulous strategising. (Possible hyperboles there but whatever)
But I fear they will be Team 8^2, who have suffered this season with restructuring and a lack of depth that makes them easy to prepare for and snipe (though potentially less of a problem in winner's format a la GSTL). Still, it's much harder to have to prepare strats for the five TSL stars than the hundred on oGs or the thousand on SlayerS (though admittedly they all play the same )

That was kinda the same problem TSL had last season and they owned up everyone until they got to the playoffs

You do realize the reason MVP and NesTea etc isnt playing GSTL is because they dont want to right?

But depth doesn't really matter in the sc2 team league system

But yeah, TSL is definitely one of the top contenders for the GSTL.
Leebiber has actually being pretty impressive lately. He had some atrocious games i think in earlier GSTL and/or Super Snarf Tournament which i've really held against him for too long now.
I'm thinking SlayerS or IM have a far better shot at winning then TSL. TSL is a rather good team but SlayerS and IM are far better with deeper talent to draw upon.

Even though it seems there are some who missed the sarcasm in my post, IM do have a history of making peculiar decisions in team leagues. At the risk of being called an armchair manager, not winning a teamleague since February does give credence to those of us like myself and most notably Artosis, who think some of their decisions were wrong.

Great post! TSL is by far my favorite team. They all seem so hardworking and dedicated to really being a team (no offense to other teams). Virgil, you best include Heart in part 2!
The post saying stuff like TSL isn't going to win completely missed the point of the topic and just make you look bad. Go read the BW forum, this is to HYPE up TSL. sigh
/Not bad... TSL aren't that balanced in terms of their racial lineups and can be easily sniped though IMO. They'll probably reach playoffs again and hopefully they get more protoss :D
My brother loves TSL and always thinks they are going to win. I disagree, but have to admire how they've still kept things together when it seems like so many of their players are leaving.

Next GSTL's format is a regular double elimination tournament. No group stage.
Coach Lee is super boss. His the most personable and outspoken Korean coach. Praises for him rain from all directions and I think he is capable of making more champions as well.
+Jaedong +Sea +Hiya (Dont give up on SC2 yet hiya :D!)

Erm, that's sorta exactly what happened in BW (minus Hiya). So far the results have been less than beastly. In fact they're in last place. >_<
Yeah I know about Team 8 . I think they're doing bad because they might be one of those A-Teamers the FXO boss said are switching over to SC2 and have been practicing SC2 for 5months alrdy. Maybe that's why they've been doing shitty :D.

They're on a contract till at least the end of this PL season. I don't think the PL season ends in 40 days.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO . My dreams have been shattered.... Wondering who the A-Teamers are then ?
Anyway, TSL need sum more muscle on their team. Coach Lee is an amazing coach and deserves some hi quality players :D

I would just like to say that this has really gotten me pumped. For the first couple GSTL's I didn't really feel attached to any of the teams, but now I can honestly say that TSL is my favorite team. aLive may be one of the most underrated players in GSL, Polt is always solid, and the three Zergs this team have are all ridiculously good. I hadn't heard that TSL is bringing in a new Protoss player, but I would only imagine that this Xxxxxxx player will be from BW. I can't wait to see ^^
I just realized who Xxxxxx is. It was in the post all along. Xxxxxx is in fact Artosis. Everything fits. The post says Xxxxxx plays protoss and so does Artosis. Artosis is known to respect and be on good terms with coach Lee as evidenced in his youtube videos about Major. Also Thehandsomenerd.com, Artosis's site, is one of TSL's sponsors. Of course the most telling piece is calling Xxxxxx the Artosis pylon of TSL. We all know that only Artosis is allowed to use that phrase as evidenced from the reddit drama. Sorry to ruin the surprise everyone, I am just too genius.

Now that's a bit harsh of a wording, don't you think? TSL did win their group last year and advanced to the semis of the playoffs. But TSL is bleeding players fast, and I doubt that they can put up an experienced roster that has both talent and depth. They have lost Killer, Clide, JYP and now aLive. They have Polt, who is not a bad player, but he is not DRG caliber where he can carry an entire team (even DRG needed support from players like Tails, Keen, sC and Genius when he did falter). Hyun is a ex-BW pro, but it remains to be seen how good he truly is at SC2. There is just not enough players left on TSL to have a strong team.

really? you really think they are in the proper mental state to win against the likes of IM and SlayerS when shit is blowing up all around them? would like to see your reasoning soon.
considering aLive and JYP and everyone left. it must mean that they dont think training with their teammates will improve their level. There could be other reasons too.
On January 19 2012 04:57 hunts wrote: Does TSL have enough people to even compete in GSTL Still?
Yes, but they will be throwing former B-teamers and players that have very little tournament experience. TSL is bleeding to death, and its lineup is deserting in droves. With Killer, Clide, JYP, aLive and Heart all leaving in a matter of months, the team's outlook is not good at all.

Yes but Bisu became famous in MBC. Guess where did Coach Lee come from? oh shiii.
Because of his MSL win right? I think his initial fame was recognized in MBC, but he never would have reached his full potential without SKT imo. Bisu belongs on slayers.

I really hope this doesn't happen, and when I say demise don't think I mean the team will disband, but I'm quite sure that we will not hear anything from TSL or their players anytime soon.

I still think TSL will become a good team. Yes they lost basicly all their top-players, and yes the atmosphere in the team doesn't sound too good, but Coach Lee has been a coach for so long.. i can imagine that when the majority of the BW pro's switch to SC2, a good number of pro's would want to join TSL under their well-known coach Lee.

now it seems pretty silly to bank on TSL making a splash in the gstl this season :/
This topic was never about agreeing with it in the first place. -_- TC didn't care if people agreed or not, it was simply to get some HYPE going for TSL and GSTL.
More of these topics should be made, fans gotta start hyping up their own teams in their own threads. I would do my own but I don't support 1 particular team, though I am leaning in the direction of a couple.
Well now that HyuN join TsL , I have another team to root for because they have previous brood war pro gamers just like team OGS . Polt reminds me of me Mind and they look a little identical and they both play terran which is quite good .
I like the formation of team TsL revolves around having old estro players who didn't make it to the draft and started out good . With Cool and Tester winning games . Although it's just sad that money is everything now days , We don't see player's like boxer or nada and yellow sacrificing them selves to be drafted to other teams to save their team financial difficulties.
Current trend that is happening now days , If you can pay me extra money , I don't give a damn about honour any more . Well that's why hero's like Yellow,Boxer,Nada and Reach will always remain heroes to me.
Where can I watch previous tsl vod's ?? especially hyun's vods .

Hyun hasn't really played much. Only in the ESV Korean Weeklies, where he didn't really play well. It's kinda hard to sift through the whole Twitch recording just to find his games.
Just wait till Hyun plays his Code A games I guess. Or the FXO Invitational Series 5.

Once he plays his games on Code A , will it be uploaded to youtube or do I have to go to GomTV ? Thanks.
sorry OP but tsl needs a revamp before it wins. according to the post made by rekrul, coach lee is two faced and underhanded. that type of person cannot be good for a team. no wonder people leave in droves.

They will be uploaded to Youtube by NeoTV in Chinese.
I look down upon you from the peak of understanding, the glorious mountain that is enlightenment.
Did David shrink before Goliath, even though many had no aspirations toward his victory? NO!
Did Aeneas turn back at the prospect of leading his brethren into the unknown? NO!
What do they have in common with this team you ask? They're all champions, legends, succeeding in the face of adversity. Many doubted TSL recently against ReIGN, and look how mightily they brushed their opponent aside! TSL may have a monstrous task ahead of them and they may come out bruised and battered in the end, but they WILL clench victory in the GSTL.
TSL will rally around Coach Lee and get the #1 seed again this time and not choke it away and then they will win the title. After Revival wins the 9th game of the set (Revival because he is the only OG left) the team will then give Coach Lee a Pocari Sweat shower and then carry him off into the sunset.
Alive and Polt are good, no denying that, but TSL have had sooooo many problems recently I really hope they can pull together and do well though for some reason I don't think that they will get it this time around =(
