Fnatic have released the Canadian former Brood War pro, IefNaij, as he was, and is prioritising studying over Starcraft 2 (as he should), and thus will be very inactive. They have also released their dedicated Spanish 2v2 team of IeZael and eXeCuToR. The latter will be retiring, while the former will be seeking a new partner for 2v2.
Seems like teams have given up completely on competitive 2v2, especially since only the EG Masters Cup seems to have implemented it (I stand to be corrected).
Today we would like to announce the departure of IefNaij and our 2v2 Squad with immediate effect.
Jian Fei "IefNaij" Wang has been with us since August 2010, and joined as one of the top Canadian Brood War players. He has made two appearances at MLG competitions under the Fnatic name, placing outside the top 50 on both occasions. However he has been very inactive and busy with his studies, putting his StarCraft II progression on the backburner.
As for our Spanish 2v2 Squad, they have not been able to put their skills into action at offline events, but have competed in numerous Clan Wars.
Our General manager Elroy Pinto gave the following statement:
Today we part ways with IefNaij, IeZaeL & Roberto. These 3 while not in the spotlight all the time have been great support players for our StarCraft 2 team. It saddens me to let them go but unfortunately with IefNaij and Roberto going inactive we have to let them go. IeZaeL has been a great person to have on the team as well, he's always very enthusiastic and I wish him the best in finding an active 2v2 partner and continuing his appearences in tournaments. I hope some day IefNaij comes back from inactivity and if he does it would be with Fnatic, he displayed some amazing skills at the few events he could attend. Good luck to all 3 of them and please stay tuned to further updates from FnaticRaidCall for 2012. The Spanish duo said a few words about their time in Fnatic:
Grettings, Today I let to be a part of one of the best teams of StarCraft 2 at this time out of Korea. The team and I are going in different directions, and they plan to participate primarily on 1v1 Leagues, meanwhile I want play on 2v2 doing my best. I am able to leave with the wins against Mouz and EG in the 2v2 and as my best moments here, which helped to get the third place in the Evil Geniuses Master's Cup Series VI. Nothing more to add, thanks to 'Xeris' for looking at us and the kind welcome of 'Elroy'. I hope to return someday to this awesome team. Both sets of players depart on very good terms, and we thank them for their time within Fnatic, and we wish them the very best of luck for what they choose to do in the future.
This leaves us with four StarCraft II professionals plus our Korean Academy, who will be flying the Black and Orange flag all over the world this year.

Seems like alot of teams are refreshing their rooster for 2012 :O not huge players tho so not the biggest deal
Seems to be some sort of a "Get rid of the jobbers" - week this week.
That title scared me. This isn't big news, Iefnaij was inactive anyway, and the 2vs2 team is kind of unknown?

Haha, hadn't really thought about it like that, but yeah. Definitely.

I think it was inControl who said Pro-gaming contracts are normally a year long and/or run from December to December hence why you get this huge exchange around this time. Think of Christmas as the Off-Season in a normal sport.

Just a lot of contracts expiring around this time probably and people making plans for the new year.
I'm glad Fnatic made the reasons more clear than EG so we didn't have 20 pages of "oh they had shit results"... so do a lot of players still left on every single foreign team.
This is to make room for Moon's salary, :x
Sad to see this, but they are creating a "thin roster" as Day9 might say, and their roster is actually incredible. All 4 players are top notch players, and each one of them has immense potential. Nightend only recently breaking into the limelight has been playing fantastic. Moon is well, Moon. Rain has extreme skillls and is their solid terran player. ToD is also extremely solid, and his skills are improving rapidly in Korea. GL to Fnatic.MsiRaidcall(is Msi a sponsor still?) and GL to lefnaji in finding more time for SCII
Hope both inactive players do well in whatever they pursue and i they do come back best of luck to them in their progaming careers. As for the other 2v2 partner, hope he gets more continued success with his new 2v2 partner! GLHF, looking forward to more changes to the fnatic roster.

It seems Fnatic is working on a complete overhaul for 2012; new title sponsor, new players, new direction etc.
Good to see. While it's never good to see a player leave a team it's reasonable to see why these players were removed.
I guess we are seeing a trend of foreign teams picking up Koreans and dropping the underperforming members of their rosters. I hope Liquid does not follow suit.
Best of luck guys in your future endeavors.
Ok well nice refresh, but now fnatic has to answer to real question.
When will Moon be streaming ? Between all those dramas, Moon playing fulltime sc2 and streaming is the only primordial point.

Think of January like the transfer window in Football/Soccer, teams like to refresh and strengthen a roster for the upcoming year.
They have a pretty nice lineup now.
Get rid of the scrubs to make space for good players, every team should do this. *TL hinthint*

Wishing for the best in your studies Lefnaij. The lack of team events are really dissapionting.

I highly doubt it. If a player was going to leave liquid, it would be of their own accord and not being cut.

Best of luck JF <3
please try to qualify for TSL4 though!

Just mostly clearing house to get some money back

making room for koreans lol. tbh its depressing because at this rate every team is gonna get a group of koreans and it will be just like BW only with token white guys on the team : /
I would so love it if one of these statements would be just blunt for once: "They sucked, they simply didn't get results thus we let them go". Always this sugarcoating..
Teams are making rooms for Koreans. You can't blame them for that.
I mean what have IefNaij accomplished? Being talented just doesn't cut it. You need to have some results and bring some attention and $$ to your team.
Their rooster looks good still

Hope they won't release ToD & Rain ! xD

I think it's kinda cool with all this player trading. Makes SC2 seem much more like a sport to me.
That being said, best of luck to all the players and teams <3
Good move imo they have a really nice and solid lineup right now taking into account the arrival of aLive
Now hopefully we can have some new additions to the team!
I hope that Alive can join Fnatic and that they pick up a awesome Zerg player
too bad cause JF was so good in sc1. Haven't really seen him much in sc2 sadly ;\ anyhow gl JF with ur plans! and gl fnatic finding new players!
The title was scary but the news were understandable.
Unsurprising that non-contributing players are being dropped at the turn of the year.
There is an competitive 2v2 scene? Sorry never heard of that...

In some team tournaments they included 2v2
Yeah I don't know any professional 2v2 players. But aww that guy's buddy is retiring and now he's left by himself :'(
Title scared me. Thought it was 3 1v1 progamers.
A lot of teams are clearing out rooms this year!

Except that JianFei could probably be the best player on that team... He just prefers to study, like most people.
Makes sense in these droppings, JF is going to school, the 2v2 team got split up due to one retiring and no use in keeping the other because he was only there for the 2v2 team.

I dont really think that teams should keep 2v2 teams. No real point as has been mentioned that besides EG no other comp uses.
really sad IefNaij is not going be so active in SC2 scene. Oh well best of luck man in your studies.
GL JF. Good move for Fnatic to release Executor. I didn't even know he played sc2. He was one of the most bm players and has a history of hacking. Anywho, still a really solid line-up.

We were told that january = contract time for pretty much all the teams
so yeah, just tying up the loose ends on the trash bag
Guess this is the season where a lot of teams are starting to let players go. I hope they find new teams and don't feel too discouraged by the business process.
Looks like they were making room for the koreans.
cleaning house, good decision.
Fnatic's roster is really looking good and it was already slightly teased they are signing more beasty players in the future, go team league
