I suppose if Kas can stay up for it, so can Stephano, but still.. Why the hell did he sign up for the tournament than if he knew it might run that late? Maybe not THAT late, most of the time, late mean 1am.... Wow what a crap excuse. What about the tournament workers and casters who stayed up all night long to put on the tournament? What about the other players? Kas was up even later than Stephano btw I can run 30 km. Why can't you? That's basically the logic you're using here. If stephano felt he was unfit he was unfit. I honestly have no idea what's so hard to understand from stephano's perspective. You think he purposely wanted to abuse his power and get easy money without playing the finals BY GIVING UP A CHANCE AT 700 MORE DOLLARS FOR ONE SERIES? What kind of dumb comparison is that? I didn't sign up to run 30 km, Stephano did. I think he made an agreement, broke it, and deserves to get punished for it. So if you sign up for a marathon you should finish it no matter what and if you get tired people have the right to bitch at you. Okay. ROFL
the logic you people use is so circular

Probably not. Irrelevant. If you're in the GSL any other tournament is probably lesser in Korea, and that said other tournament would be the one MVP would most likely forfeit. Doesn't matter, the point is that the tournament builds up to the final and people damn well want to see it after seeing players work to get there. It's a slap in the face to the organizers and the fans to play to the final and then just give up. People who are saying he should get second place regardless are even dumber, should the tournament just end without a finals? No one can force you to play a game (though, if you're a professional, you shouldn't need to be forced), but you should obviously not expect to get any prize money when you shit all over the event. It does matter, your premise itself was a contradiction. Thus your conclusion is invalid. Yes the tournament should end without a finals. That's how it works when you forfeit the match. Lol, where do you find that contradiction? Your reply to my post was barely relevant since you mention some lesser tournament which had nothing to do with what I was talking about. Point is that pretty much no one would accept a BS forfeit in a GSL final, yet people are really quick to think it's cool in this case just because it wasn't a huge tournament.
It's more relevant to the thread and case. You presented a situation in which will never occur. Your conclusion is thus invalid. You can't say, the sky is blue, thus the point is Stephano should burn at the stake. That's not an argument.

this tournament really turn to a drama joke so sad.

The production was horrible, with a laggy stream, casters that prided themselves in NOT watching GSL and saying stupind non-sense all the time, and with scheduling issues. Stephano did not act really professionally but most people over-react to this so much, it's unbelievable. Gosh, the kid was probably just sleeping over his keyboard. Want to punish him? Dont invite him again. But he landed top 2, he should stay top 2, dont invent rules to demote him to the 4th place because you dont like him.
I'm a stephano fan right ... right. What he did, IS a complete dick move, I agree with that, the only problem I have is, what is the point of this thread, the only thing you're going to see is hate and racism here and there.
Wouldn't it be more interesting that whoever posted this news instead of wasting his time here,Tries to create a common channel for tournaments to agree on a set of rules clearly stating what should happen in this kind of circumstances ?

I don't think many people in this thread understand the fact that this was an invite tourney, ran off VOLUNTEER work and donations. This wasn't your standard "we have money, lets make a tourney" event.
Stephano was invited to play, Stepano knew what he was getting himself into when accepting invites to two tournaments in the same day. But he still accepted.
I feel it's only right for ONOG and the community to be bothered that someone would accept an invite, while knowing the conditions. If Stephano didn't think he could do it, he shouldn't have.

Of course you can, but in that case you absolutely pay a price for it. A professional tennis player getting exhausted and forfeiting because of it is a huge deal, it means the player is pretty irresponsible with his training, preparation and on top of that show lack of temperance. He won't get any invites anytime soon.

It might be that he was actually dead tired and would have played miserably if he tried to play. That would also have been extremely disappointing to the people watching, and would have gotten criticism, but he would have seemed more sympathetic because he was trying so hard. But it's possible he really was that insanely tired. But if so, that's not an excuse. It just means he did the really dumb, irresponsible thing when he signed up for the tournament or didn't forfeit earlier, rather than when he forfeited. Either way, he did some very bad.

Why do you keep comparing this to a marathon? Marathon's are usually voluntary entered where there is no money involved, this is completely different.
I never said you shouldn't be allowed to forfeit (where the hell are you getting that from?), but if you do, you should be punished because you failed to uphold your agreement. Obviously you can't force him to do something, but there is a thing called reprecussions in the world.

One of the best foreigners forfeiting invitational right before finals, yes thread So Tylers excuse is far worse then Stephano's and nobody wants to come out and say it because all the hate will get directed towards one of your team members, I get it. Huh? neither of them had any excuse whatsoever. Tyler forfeited in the first round, and it didn't make a big stir. There was no punishment to be done, and the tournament went on. What gets a thread isn't just about which player acted worse. It's about what is actually big news, and the impact and controversy involved in Stephano's situation is much, much bigger. Even before the thread, there was a ton of debate going on about Stephano, but none about Tyler, and that's just natural. People don't all read reddit... If TL is where you look for starcraft news, which is totally reasonable, and you don't randomly dig through live report threads, you'd never know this was an issue until this headline. If TL wants to be a real place for news, anything causing this much controversy has to be a headline somewhere that people actually see.

It's their job? Like I said before, DRG played the MLG semifinals suffering from food poisoning, he was throwing up right before his match. He didn't issue any ultimatums. I don't think stephano should be forced to play his matches obviously, but I think players should be DQd from tournaments for doing so. In addition, this event had special circumstances to take into account; I feel like it was disrespectful to the fans and the volunteers.

The arrogance of this player is unprecedented. Stephano is clearly not intelligent enough to understand that competetive essence is what provides the substance for entertainment; the audience invests themselves in these players to witness an act of determination. It is unfortunate that video games has a minor penchant for attracting players of such a low personal caliber. Video games are a colosseum sport in which the audience indulges in an experience of individual displays of character, whether through fantastic gameplay or through beyond normal levels of personal energy and dedication. Stephano has failed to accumulate the full set of variables in this equation, and will continue to alienate his spectators. I am not interested in someone who considers themself a professional under only specific circumstances. Stephano is a fraud, a charlatan parading in the colors of falsehood and laity! The right to compete is earned. Which is why I fully support ONOG's level headed decision making to support the audience as the core of video games. Entertainment, and suspension of disbelief itself, is a two way street.
