Really, he should have made sure he could fit it all in his schedule first and I don't really like the ultimatum he gave to the tourney as if they need to work around his schedule. Either way, I don't see the need to move him to fourth. It doesnt matter too much to Stephano but still it makes him look inconsiderate.
...ok even if it was because he was voted in, he could still decline; and it was his second tourney of the day and he sure didnt cancel that one...
I mean its arguable that Stephano could drop out if he wanted which seems rather boner-killerish, but even given that I don't think that dropping him a few places is ok and if it makes him look inconsiderate... well probs a reason for that

I think if he wanted to bow out he should've done so in a more graceful manner (i.e. not signing off immediately after). Anyway he did what he did and I think the punishment laid out was appropriate. It's time to move on...

If ESPORTs is supposed to be a legit sport, athletes of it are supposed to be professional, it's a job to them. You don't go home from work because you're tired, why should you quit a tournament because of it? If you understood it like that i guess it's ok. My point still stands that ppl are undermining the difficulty of something which they want to be taken more seriously.

Yea you're right. But he death the likelihood of death increases as a function of sleep deprivation. So he still could have died or passed out. And we don't know how long he's stayed up training and his regular sleep schedule.

ONOG dealt with this perfectly.
I do not give a flying rats fuck what Stephano does. It is his business if he wants to bail. He can do what he wants. Bit of a dick move to ONOG, but still. I dont hate him for it.
But to anyone who jumped all over Naniwa for his probe rush (in a game that doesnt even matter): You sure as shit better not be supporting Stephano right now or you are a 2-faced hypocrite and should go fuck yourself.

hes an amazing player who does wonderfully, so what if he forfeited, hes a player its in his rights, he has the right to do what he wants. Would u prefer he do something like drone rush? Because when u get tired u have to go and sleep end of story.

Sure, things out of control are pretty reasonable excuses not to play -- like a pulled muscle f.e. -- but come on, Stephano accepted the invitation and knew perfectly well what he was getting into, he should have planned for it.. on top of that made wait for him an hour or so.. that's just him being completely unprofessional. No, you can forfeit if you're exhausted and can't continue. Same thing as stephano. Of course you can, but in that case you absolutely pay a price for it. A professional tennis player getting exhausted and forfeiting because of it is a huge deal, it means the player is pretty irresponsible with his training, preparation and on top of that show lack of temperance. He won't get any invites anytime soon. No, actually, no one bitches about it. They point out that they have to work at their conditioning, but no one is gonna walk up to them and tell them they're unprofessional and should be punished. Actually, yes, tired players who quit because of it absolutely lose the respect of their peers, fans and organizers.. that's how it works in any sport. Djokovic retired from a major a few years back due to exhaustion. I don't ever remember a single article or thread written about how he's unprofessional and that he should be punished. Yeah. Actually I really wonder how many TLers do or did a sport at a really high level, be it eSports or real sports, seeing how the well-being of the player is often completeley disregarded under the "HE OWES US THE SPECTACLE. HE MUST PLAY UNTIL HE DIES BY CARPAL TUNNEL. IT PLEASES US". This situation has already been discussed in a blog and I feel the overall agreement was "Stephano has more than the right to forfeit. He handled this a bit roughly. He could have anticipated that he'd make finals in both tournaments. ONOG took the best decision for the viewers, but not for the players, as Stephano won the 2nd place's prize. And 80% of the posters like drama more than reflexion" Of course he has the right to forfeit. Nobody denies that. But people also have the right to get upset. Don't deny that. There is no such thing a right to forfeit. But this has been discussed to bits already.
You are probably correct that right is not the word for what I mean. I mean something like it is up to him to decide whether he wants to play or not. But that much is obvious I suppose.

...seriously most of the professionals are in a way kids ( yes you re somewhat an adult when you re 18-20, but not really ). And even if they play very pro sc2 they're still humans and want to continue a life ( with exceptions ). It's sad for the host of the tournament, even more though if they put a lot of work into raising the money.
A solution has been found, stephano did not complain and games were played? what s the big deal
|
Good decision by ONOG. Really unprofessional by Stephano, but it shouldnt be too surprising with this kid.
|
3am..... oh noes he is going to die from exhaustion.......
Stephano, y u no respect anybody?
|
People can say either way in regards to the decision etc but in ANY other sport (god I hate myself for bringing up sports) a forfeit wouldn't rob him of two positions, take tennis for example in the recent AU open someone in the ro8 had to forfeit for their health (they had a possible injury and were losing at the time so decided to call it a day). Is what stephano did any worse and would stephano have logged straight off if he knew he was going to have his hard earnt 1/2nd place ripped off him? I don't know but frankly a situation like this shouldn't happen.
The only losers here were the people who watched the tournament, delaying the finals 24 hours or a week or whatever would've given us a great bo7 between Europes top two players. I don't think the rash decision of the show must go on lets shaft our players and give Stephano a random 4th place was a good decision and frankly for any respectability in regards to the tourney they shouldve just delayed the finals if anything a few days of hype may have given them an even bigger audience, 1k showmatch between 2 of the best players in the West? I'll take one please!
