I really wonder if there would be a thread about this if he hadn't played a tournament earlier in the day and caused a delay in this one. If he said listen I am tired I have 10 more minutes online for you referees to make a decision either I am forefit or I can finish the finals sometime tomorrow or next week whenever you would like. Now, given the circumstances where he himself delays the tournament and the tournament is nice enough to allow him to do this, then can't stay up for the finals. I just got done watching a player (near the end) break the world record for longest time playing a game (4 days) without sleep and he couldn't give his fans an extra 2 hours? But this just goes to his mentality on the whole reading his interviews and watching them. He doesn't give a shit that he is good at the game just does whatever he feels like doing regardless of tournament or even team obligations. Crappy attitude, but you can get away with that in Esports right now...

After this i hope there will be a new tournament rule called "the stephanogate" which stipulate that *In case of forfeiting, the player will receive no cash no matter how far he reached in the tournament.

Let me ask you this if the best player forfeiting in the finals of the biggest tournament that weekend is NOT news but drama, what qualifies as actual news? This situation is absolutely worth a thread and not because it's some "drama mongering." It's not like there's a Community News thread about Stephano cursing on stream or staring at pictures of a girl's breasts.
I'm going to carry on pretending not to be interested in drama when it is actually what I love most about Teamliquid.
IMHO, the picture with Stephano staring at that girl's sweet rack deserves its own thread.

Stephano did not handle this situation well. Too say you are too tired too play really shows lack of professionalism. This is what happens when you play in multiple tournaments and both finals happen to be on the same day. He needs to manage his schedule better.

So because people are good, they can do whatever they want? Well, then you won't have big tours with price-money in the future. Imagine football and every time 1 or 2 clubs decide to just leave during a tournament or a season. Bicycle racing was at some point big too and then all the doping shit happened and now it's kinda dead. Acting like an idiot (IdrA) is ok, because some sponsors like to sponsor a "bad boy" it's some kind of image but screwing a whole tournament is just stupid and no sponsor wants to see his players doing that. Every sponsor will decide 2 times before sponsoring a sc2 tournament when he has to fear that childish players will screw things up. Maybe they will use the money for some google ads and be on the save side.

Lol.
So he can forfeit every tournament after midnight because he is french? No, he can't. He should not have signed up and played in the first place, since it was obviously an high possibility if he was playing in the final.
There is absolutly no excuses for what he did.
Actually, people are not bashing him because of his nation, people are bashing his nation because of what he did. Sure, it's still not fine and it's still racist, but eh. Welcome to the internet.

I guess this is why the Kardashians are so important. And you're responsible for almost a full page yourself...are you making fun of people or.......? Drama brings excitement. You cannot deny this as your post count in this thread alone shows that Its been hard work, defending Stephano from the onslaught brought on by this tabloid journalism! I'm not making fun of people, I'm pointing out that TL is catering the the lower common denominator by making this Community News. Its completely analogous to the Kardashians being all over CNN. Stephano didn't handle the situation as well as he could have... its as relevant to SC2 news as Kim Kardashian being married is to World News. Both are top headlines!
Pointing out that a high end "professional" player took a spot in an invite only, community sponsored/funded/volunteered tournament, only to delay and then ultimately forfeit because of a scheduling conflict HE could have prevented isnt news?
If any professional sports team/player showed up to the Finals of their league and said "We're/I'm tired, I'm not showing up until tomorrow." What do you think would happen? News. I know the scale of events is different, but it is still news.

That was a great picture!!! Can you imagine the pageviews and posts it would generate if it were Community News?
Some draft headlines: Stephano a Perv!! SC2 leads to Sex Addiction!
Its just unfortunate, for SC2 and the SC2 community, that Stephano's brilliance is being overshadowed by this needless drama.
His play was Code S level yesterday, and all you haters should watch his match vs Illusion and try and stay mad at him. Before this, he was easily playing better than any foreigner has ever played SC2.
He gave plenty to the community yesterday, and its just sad all that all that remains is this vitriol.

The more i read this kind of thread, the more i hate the "e-sports" mentality. The quest for legitimacy of "e-sports" is bane of this community, everything is blown out or proportions and everyone has an opinion on the correct code of conduct for players and tournaments organizers. I wish we were more like the fighting community: less money, more fun.
Also, 43 pages of beating a dead horse... when we already had 40+ pages on the ONOG thread?

What if a player is seriously ill? Or their internet cuts out? Should they still lose everything? And if not, do you think anyone is ever going to forfeit rather than having a mysterious computer crash in the future?

You're getting some things mixed up.
Idra gets away with a lot because he's popular. He's popular because he's good at the game and because he's irreverent.
With this latest incident, Stephano is now more popular than ever - add to that fact that he's even more talanted and irreverant than Idra mean that Stephano has the same makings of a superstar.
This thread has pretty much proven that people will pay attention to Stephano regardless whether they like his attutude or not. Actually no. They will now pay attention because of his attitude.
I'd be pretty happy right now if I were Millenium.

stephano cannot be at two places at once, the organizers should be working together to make sure their times dont overlap
|
Once again where are the rules? If there are no rules then stephano has no moral or legal reason to stay in the tournament. He can then leave at any time, it's up to him. If that might cause some ethical wrongdoings so be it but he didn't break the tournament rules. The real ethical wrongdoings was to award him 3/4 place when he clearly had qualified for 1/2 place. But since there were no rules i cannot blame the to much.
