The player was being honest and forfeits due to exhaustion.
The tournament readjusts so everyone still gets a final to watch.
and yet...SOMEHOW...People are still crying and waving their ridiculous "professionalism and hurting ESPORTS" banner.
Thank God I don't have to please you people for a living.
Ok but the difference is in a real sports team if you start refusing to play you get cut from the team or if you quit your job you no longer have a job.
Seriously do you think any player in any other sport only play when they feel like it? Do you only show up to your job when you feel like it?

Its unfortunate that Stephano had another thing scheduled for that day and coudnt dedicate his full to both. I think he took the right decision.. if he was half asleep and coulnd play the way he wanted, there was no point. I dont want to see a lame stephano, I want to see him do his best.
Anyway, I also love the way the ONOG guys handled that. It was their first tournament, and having this kind of issue and solving it in the best way possible (imo) and on the fly was amazing.
Props to them.

Why are people making such a big fuss about it, he got punished other players played and thats it. I dont recall people being so upset when Idra forfeited in between games in TL tournament.

Omg i rly hate that ppl make this thing so big deal. Just like that guy said earlier, like pro athletics if they should be running marathon and they dont feel like doing it they wont. If i would be a pro sc player i would forfeit all the finals just to make u guys mad... This kind of threads are just stupid

Yeah and that's how it's supposed to be. Not the commnuity raising pitchforks without little to no actual knowledge.

Weird decision. Either remove Stephano wholly from the prize pool and give Kas the win or let Stephano be the second place would be a better idea. This way it's kinda unfair for Kas.

Random insult just because you don't agree with the topic? How cool is that?

So much hate.
People defending Stephano by saying he owes us nothing or his team/manager should do the talking, not us.
First of all, he does not owe us anything, that is correct. It actually would be the tournament that shows the games and has the rights to them and Stephano owes the tournament the games. I have no idea what the contract was like, but personally I would suggest to make it mandatory to play games after Ro32 or something and if one does not attend, he/she has to pay for contract violation.
Second, yep, his manager should do the talking, not us.
However, Stephano's comment was like "yeah I didn't feel like it so I did not play, I don't care." And that is what pisses people off.
After all, there will not be money made in anything without consumers, in Sports, the Viewers are the consumers (Not regarding merchandise here). So, if he feels like forfeiting he could at least pretend to understand that it is annoying for the rest of the world and that people were looking forward to seeing him play.
It is his ignorance that pisses me (And I believe the rest of you) off. The ignorance to first say "Yeah I'll play in an hour." then follow it up with "Nah I'm going to sleep now.". And present the statement "Well I didn't wanna play, I couldn't care less about you."
This obviously is not exactly what he said/wrote, however it is what it sounds like in essence (Stephano fanboys will disagree here, this is why I have to go in a little more detail)
Had Stephano apologized, said he would try to avoid playing in two tournaments simultanously or something alike people would not be pissed. However he doesn't. He doesn't because he either does not understand that people stayed up and waited only for his games or because he does not give a fuck about those exact people. And personally I don't believe Stephano is stupid enough not to understand that people watch tournaments. Leaving me with the logical conclusion that Stephano does not care about his fans at all. As a Stephano fan one has every right to talk about this.
tl;dr Stephano's ignorance is what annoys more than anything.

I for one hope he gets punished by his team, this is ridiculous and extremely unproffesional. Who in any sport suddenly refuses to play a final? Imagine being in a stadium with a few thousand people watching and you go "Na screw this, I'm too tired, I'll go to sleep". Well, you would be out of a job pretty quickly.
Stephano to me now is not a proffesional sc2 player, but rather a kid that happens to be good at a game where you can get money to win.

Have you ever seen more ridiculous analogies all together in 1 thread?

I'm one of the people who strongly feel players who forfeit should be disqualified, but Kas didn't earn first place, he earned a place in the finals. He shouldn't get first place automatically just because his opponent chickens out. Winner of 3rd should play finalist for it to be fair.

I found the best one was something like "Stephano not playing is like me having the chance to but not curing cancer." And that was meant to actually defend Stephano :D
"I can save millions of lifes, however I don't do it, nobody would be mad at that..."

I think I can understand both parties in this situation but to be honest,
If I were stephano, just play out the match, you are at the age where having a late night will not kill you... As a professional player, if you accept an invitational, go late and request them wait for you, perhaps you can also give them a favor by playing the finals, heck just try your best and if you los you lose right?

Wow I did not know that it was a tournament by barcrafts for barcraft... Stephano should have tried drinking coffee / energy drink to see if he is in shape (he can play and send replays for example). He did not handle that well but if he felt really tired, he had to forfeit. The decision to play the finals with Kas & Illusion was goof but could not they had made it a dual bracket, therefore making Stephano 3rd and Catz 4th, since he won the semi-final. Seems more fair

Lol, he basically gave up 1500 dollars because he wanted to sleep. Doesn't make sense to me.
