And as long as there are muppets which call such behaviour "normal" or even better, blame the tournament because they cant accept that their "idol" screwed up (scheduling etc), well.. I dont think that the western eSports-scene will ever be taken serious if kids can do what they want. And im sorry, Stephano is just that. A (well playing, no question) kid. But far away from a professional. They punished Naniwa severly for being unprofessional, that should happen here as well. In german Bundesliga (soccer-"ladder", prime division), if a player is un"fair" (not the exact word, its called "unsportliches Verhalten" - like "bad behaviour/mannered"), he can be penalized with not being allowed on the grass for some games. eSport really needs that. Not like Kespa, but regulations. Strict regulations, with penalties, so players (and ofc organisations/tour-orgas) cant just do what they want. Because in the end, being professional is not about what you want, but about what you have to do. And if you sign into two tournaments, you simply have to play them. If you screw up, at least apologize for that to your fans and the organisation. Take responsibility, looks alot better than being a spoiled brat which doesnt give a shit. In that regard, i can understand the ppl calling him arrogant prick or douchbag and whatever was said here.

Although Stephano is a better player than CatZ, CatZ showed more hart and class and that is what should be respected and rewarded. Stephano has showed a real lack of character here and I feel it reflects poorly on everyone in the SC2 community.

Also it has happened before. I remember seeing Stephano play in the FXOpen, and while he was on winning streak (I think it was 6 in a row?) he asked the admins if he could quit, since he was feeling exhausted. He was allowed to do that, and life went on. Now yes, that wasn't the finals, and that's still "a sad story", but I think that if he needs to rest, he should. Really, if Stephano had been your friend, and you had been sitting besides him, seen him play 12 hours that day, and at 2:30 am he is STILL playing and now on to playing a Bo5 vs Kas, what would you think? I bet that you wouldn't tell him to continue playing. To all the people whining about "professional" sportsmen that keeps fighting even if their arms and legs are broken, that's still fucking stupid, sorry to say. YOU as a spectator might enjoy it, and even they might, but I assure you that the people that care about them don't. Also this wasn't the GSL, this was a new started tournament which did mean an awful lot (no offense to you ONOG). Berate Stephano about his scheduling, because it IS stupid that he books himself for two tournaments, but guys, I think he left for a fucking reason.

Your argument is that because it's ok for you to forfeit, that makes it fine for Stephano as well. For this to work, you would need to be a more exceptional case than that of Stephano (K < S) and widely accepted in the community as being right to forfeit. I'm sorry.

To say this is the responsibility of the tournament directors is just ridiculous. No event revolves their schedule around one player. They aren't the ones issuing the ultimatum; Stephano is. If I am one of the organizers, I would be pretty damn pissed. What Stephano has showed is his lack of professionalism and respect for tournaments. Here's a red mushroom, you'll need it.

He's saying he thinks it's ok to forfeit, and that he has done som himself. You seem to have a problem grasping what a "opinion" is.

He deserves a few bans in the next LAN tournaments imho. You probably shouldn't read the thread lol. There were some people even praising him for it and saying they gained respect for him for forfeiting the finals of a tournament.

This is part of his job. Too say you too tired to play in a tournament (finals, no less) is just unacceptable. If a professional athlete says he is too damned tired to play, how would his team, or the fans feel?? Or let's put it this way, if you said the same thing to your boss, you would be told not to come back to work tomorrow. Who gave him the title "professional"? As far as I can tell this is just some kid who is good at the game trying to make some money to secure his futue profession.

So with simple logic tournament producers are paying to provide entertainment, therefore by stephano not playing he is screwing both the fans and tournament producer. Its not about whos best its about providing quality games. Stephano you are a selfish weak person and IMO unwelcome to Esports.
