Most Terrans I meet usually open 1-2-rax expo or reactor helion expo. Most Protoss go FFE or Nexus first, with the occasional x-gate-something expand. Edit: ZvZ I usually play on the offense, so my games often end quick I guess.
Terran, dont get me started .
reactor hellion... standard.... ok yo have abouut 6 hellions, not too unusual, but i should be careful. Try to send a ling ot in different directions, send in overlord... it gets taken out. 1 Min later - A ton more hellions a bunch or marauders and some scvs to boot. It has by far become the most popular strategy.

My reason- SC2 isnt fun for me . i went back to playing BW and LoL and am having a much better time which is really sad cause i had so much hope for this game... Hopefully it will be better in HotS

The biggest issue for my group of friends is the lack of custom games. Most of them have lost interest in SC2 completely because ladder's become too intense, and while in BW we played a lot of customs in SC2 we can't.

Good mix of absolutely hating the bnet0.2, not having much fun in sc2 and other games have led me to stop playing.

I try to ladder occasionally but when i hit what feels like my skill ceiling it stops being as fun. i hate losing half my games and all the games taking like 20 min especially when i have school and can only play like 3 games a day. losing 2+ games out of 3 isnt ever fun

but thats a logic problem, if you win more then 50% ANOTHER player LOSE more then 50% ... so one would be super pissed 50-50 is the best whats possible to make no one angry

Brood War also had the advantage of easier public chat communication with others and custom games aren't as ridiculous to find as they are in SC2.
Used to play a ton of UMS in BW and it was really easy to find games there in comparison to SC2 and its clunky custom game system.

i dont care as much anymore since i dont have the time and talent to play sc2 on a satisfying level anyway. but unless its pvp where i can just double 10 gate coin flip and troll the rage afterwards it just feels so forced to play.
edit : not disliking the challenge itself, just that sc2 has no moments w/o stress

From looking at my friends who've spontaneously stopped laddering (1v1) I would have to assume the Ladder is too Stressful for them. They sit around and wait for a party, or play custom games. Kinda shitty, but they're the same people who never laddered on BW and showed 0 interest in ICCUP rankings. Some people just don't enjoy competition, I think. Or they don't enjoy a challenge. Hard to say which.

Ladder is too stressful and time consuming for me to play. Plus the ladder anxiety gets the better of me. Also, for someone with limited time, I think watching (or most of the time, listening) to the tournaments play is more fun and you can do something else while you listen to the game.

I still ladder tons (prob 180 wins last season, which means around 360 games I guess). But none of my friends really do. One has a promotion goal, but the rest don't play. But they all still love watching SC2 and closely follow e-sports.
So I think the moral is that these guys all love SC2, they just watch rather than play.... I mean its much easier to sit back and view a pro (and maybe think 'yeah I could do that') and all the free content that is available to us is amazing

I'm more of a team player. I like SC2/SC:BW, but I also love Dota.
Reason why I prefer Dota is because of the team playing mechanism (and because I can still play it stoned whereas SC2 I go from masters to silver). Therefore, I rather play SC2 in terms of 2v2/3v3/4v4.
I tend to have fun in building team chemistry with friends and/or random players.

I've been seeing a lot of people lately tanking their rank from however high they got all the way to bronze which could contribute to a lot of newer players not wanting to ladder because they are just playing vs scrubs who want to beat on noobs just to get a lot of wins fast.

Ladder is stressful which is the problem if you are not super competitive or have other things requiring full attention, but a way around this is to keep your MMR lower than you true skill. I play in an extremely relaxed manner, my MMR lags a lot behind my true skill, but it increases still. I fell I just have a 'relaxed MMR' which is much lower than my 'stressful MMR', and the game is fun. I think this substitutes for the lack of good custom system for me.

I honestly think it is mostly because people still don't understand the game, or know how to get better.
|
the bnet interface is too lonely.

The game is just not so fun I think. Less fun ,less players. It's still a very good game but not that great.
|
I wish they would just make their custom game filter better. As is, I'm scared to death of ladder so I'm just grinding out dozens of games on Korhal compound.
