All the drama queens have nothing better to do so they come and make drama...
By the way, not sure if it is appropriate to post here, but I believe that half of the relative success of SC2 is due to Team Liquid. Were not for TSL3, King of the Beta, TL constant and complete coverage of events since the beginning, the stream list and other features, I highly doubt SC2 popularity would be what it is today, especially among the competitive community.
I really feel sad because there won't be more BW TSLs, no more BW Day[9] Daylies, no more BW Nony, Ret, hell... even IdrA bitching about carriers I miss, or Artosis making BW videotutorials, but I never felt entitled to demand them to stick to what I think they should. TL chose to follow and give SC2 a chance, and with that TL became bigger and bigger.
They know what they are doing.

I have a hard time believing MLG not making any profit on SC2 considering their numbers last year. I look at all the SC2 tournamnets popping up in the last year/months and there are so many friqin tournaments how the heck can anybody not be making money if there is a demand for so many free tournaments.
Question: does anyone know if the ASUS ROG 2012 Winter Assembly is paying for flights to there for players?

You asked MLG for a lot of money. They said no. We can debate the $10K, or you and MLG can tell us what it really was. Simple. At least, we all agree that you initially asked MLG for what they perceived to be "a lot of money."
The more important question here is why not support the MLG PPV and then, if the model works, ask for $$$, as I think you would then have more support.
In the end, I do think we should move forward. Will you be in Columbus? If so, we can maybe share a drink, and I can assure that you that I don't hate anyone. Just ask Sundance the heat I used to give him and Adam about not having chairs at his events. :-)
So before you were standing by your source 100%, however the only part of your statement that was a rumor was a lie. Nice source.
And you keeping pushing to TL duty to support MLG. MLG said that they are a business, so they should be treated as one. TL has rules in how the calendar works, since this event is outside those rules, TL treated MLG like they wanted to be treated. You want advertising, you pay for it.
And no, they don't to provide the price that was asked, both sides dealt with the situation, however you decided to spread rumors and create unnecessary drama.

The price that was initially quoted was a lot of money. How much was originally offered will remain between MLG and TL, but I will say it was not an insignificant amount by any means and further negotiation did not happen because we were pretty far apart on what was proposed and what we were willing to spend. All that being said, we respect TL's position on this matter. MLG is gearing up to run an amazing show this weekend. Whether you think we're doing the right thing or not with this PPV effort, I hope those that tune in have a great experience. Have a great weekend! After the whole PR debacle surrounding the event, I am somewhat curious about the motivation to post this. I completely see the need to comment on TL's decision but why in this manner? What spoke against just a couple of formal lines, stating something to the effect of "We're sorry that no agreement could be reached, wish TL the best of luck and hope to continue our cooperation" and instead adopting a passive-aggressive tone? It just so fatally continues the terrible way with which PR issues were treated up to this point that it is truly baffling and I am genuinely interested in the motivation for the particular wording. This may just be my view, but I believe it was worded like that intentionally in order to portray TL as a money grubbing parasite, and not as an organization that thinks what MLG is trying to do being patently offensive towards what is the current standard. Bottom line, whether it's true or not isn't really important. What is important in my opinion, is that the MLG PPV model combusts in a sea of flames and dies as quick as it can. Well, that is obviously the subtext that was implied. But I still wonder what lead to that response - that is, what the intended upside of the wording was - that would make it more than yet another instance of terribly handled PR. Consider that the OP may not be as "fair and balanced" to all parties as it seems to you and most of Team Liquid. Further consider that TL's open hostility toward MLG's current business model might put a small strain on that professional relationship. All of that might be true, even though I doubt that you would have a lot of users agreeing on calling the way in which TL treats MLG as "open hostility". But that is really beside the point. What I wonder about is why Adam chose to comment on the issue the way he did and what he hoped might be gained by it. Mind you, that does not mean that business relations might not be strained but why not keep it behind the scenes? Why have such an accusatory subtext and not take five minutes longer to come up with a statement that might not do further damage? To me, this just reads as yet another instance of MLG handling an issue in a rather suboptimal fashion that might have been handled better quite easily.
Well, I can't speak for MLG, but I imagine the intent was to provide an official statement to the effect of "MLG is not a bunch of cheap assholes who won't pay a fair price for advertising then charge you $20 for premium content, regardless what Team Liquid official tells you otherwise".

Dude Lord Jerith are you for real? The people who according to you are supposed to have asked for 10k are denying it right in front of you. MLG is also denying that it was actually 10k, your whole argument was based on that.
This is besides the point but TL.net can literally make or break an SC2 event. If its not featured here, for the most part it does not exist. MLG is at least fortunate they have a bit of name recognition and honestly I wouldn't even bother with their events if it wasn't for the free promotion they get here.
At the end of the day, listing the PPV event on the calendar or anywhere on this site is advertising, plain and simple. MLG should be paying for it and if they are all butt hurt because things were always free...guess what like Sundance keeps saying its a "business"...I am sure he gets it.

It's a little puzzling why LordJerith would claim he has no bone to pick here when he is so determined to expose TL on this issue. He clearly is checking this thread every couple minutes and doing his absolute best to convince us that TL is lying through their teeth. Is LordJerith only in this because he feels it's the right thing to do, and could not in good conscience witness a lie without saying anything? You decide.

Well. . . I could only repeat what I have already said. I do stand by source 100%. TL denies it. MLG says it was "a lot of money." If you feel it was ok for TL to ask MLG for "a lot of money," so be it.
I do not. And it's OK to disagree.

Right. Which is an incredibly strange stance to take, especially after the fiasco that preceded the whole thing. All I got out of MLG_Adam's post was that they didn't want to spend much money to get their stream into the calender and that he would prefered that we move on discussing the actual tournament instead.

Kind of weird how the event has an article on the TL front page, but it isn't listed on the TL calendar.
I don't really care who offered what first and who's fault this is. I just want the event(not the PPV stream) up on the TL calendar, for my LR thread and brackets f5'ing.

If they asked for anything less then $5k I think they were asking too little

You have said your piece, now it is time for you stop posting in this thread. Thanks.

Interesting read but unless we know the figures there really is no way to judge whether TL or MLG are the ones in the wrong.

lol why does the figure matter?
Random Starcraft fan: "$20 is too much for one event." Sundance: "We gotta start somewhere."
TL: "Pay x amount if there is no free live stream." MLG: "Too much, we should get it for free anyways."
For the record, I'm not an MLG hater I already got my pass but this is very black/white for me. If MLG can't afford it for w/e reason then that's fine but it shouldn't expect it to be free.

I don't want to use the 10k, but say if they did ask TL for x$ to be listed on the calendar when other streams get it for free. There is a big difference if x was 200k and if it was 100$, especially since they tried to make the point that they are struggling financially.
