I think Jessica went a tad overboard this time. I understand her viewpoint, but jail time and a huge fee is just silly.
|
yeah its not america, the law is different in korea, he knew what he was doing, he has to face the penalties. this is sounds weird to some americans i know but its normal like everyone is saying.
oh and those penalties in the OP? they are the maximums available under the code. this is the way newspapers report things too and its silly. just coz its legally possible for someone to get up to 7 years doesn't mean every single person gets 7 years its not a compulsory sentencing or something stupid like that.

so how seriously do the Koreans judge treat cyber troll? is it serious business? i don't know where to draw the line on this one, even though i don't really think people can do/say anything on the internet.

As such, if someone was literally coming to the SlayerS house and saying these things to her face, would you guys be as sympathetic?
Obviously Jessica is an overreacting and oversensitive person, so the troll on the other side obviously knew he was playing with fire, so full props to him: he got what he wanted. Congrats to him! If you're going to use a real life analogy, you have to use mail. Like the things people used send to each other in envelopes. Because before the internet, that's how you would send messages to people. Sending a message is not the same thing as going to someone's house and yelling at them. How do you think me sending letters threatening to rape a woman would be treated? She's suing him for "cyber defamation," not threatening bodily harm. Stop conflating the issue. So words written on paper are how much more bodily than on a screen? There's clearly a language barrier issue here. She is, at least according to the OP, suing this guy for "defamation," not "threatening to injure her." dude, at least read the OP "cunt, fucking suck my dick, I'll bang you, etc." Ahaha you just made yourself look silly. Read that part of the OP again. It says the words on the screen shots were blurred out so the author of the OP "thinks" that was what was said. From this OP, we don't actually know if there were any threats of bodily harm. If there was, then I think she is completely justified in suing this guy. We don't know if there were though.
do you think it would be blurred out if it was about bunnies and ponies?
people don't usually go to these lenghts for random insults, just saying...

I am getting awfully tired of hearing about this woman getting frazzled about internet words every other week.

Well of course are you OK with it. But your posts implied such a standpoint should be applied to other persons. And the only argument you had was "well I don't think so", and didn't go into any higher level such as morality, possible implications to social interaction, context of law or whatever. And you were criticized for that lack of substance.

Cool, good for her. If you know the laws of your country and still say something like that about a public figure you deserved to get sued. It's not the same as the Western world so don't try to level this by comparing to joe schmoe on Bnet. People saying she's overreacting need to widen their perspective. There may be more weight on this issue because she's a public figure but this is a commonplace in Korea and he damn well knew better.

no.
my critique was mainly because you tried to equate harassment and random "trolling", and even when i pointed out (several times) that there is a huge difference, you still kept on insisting that you would deal with both the same way - by not suing. so i guess you understand there's a difference, but just won't back down on your original stand...

7 years in prison is ridiculous, though I can't imagine anyone would ever get that much prison time for spewing a few vitriolic words over the Internet. Jessica overreacts to everything as though people are attempted murder on her life. Honestly, was it so difficult to just ban the guy and forget about his existence?
