If a silver level player could catch everything that's happening on the map and makes a good play-by-play commentary, I don't see what's wrong. Yes, it's TotalBiscuit's theory on the matter, one that he's always prompt to defend whenever he's criticized by random people (like myself :D) on forums: the famous specialized "play-by-play commentator". I'm aware that conventional sports have since long adopted what TB dreams to be for SC2. But does Starcraft 2 really need that? Can't you do good play-by-play casting, as well as knowing a bit more that gold level stuff about the game? Well in fact I know you can, it's my humble opinion, but I think there are quite a few guys out there who have a better voice than TB, better play-by-play, and (obviously) way better analysis. It seems to me that TB almost prides himself in being just what he's supposedly meant to be and discards all the people who are the living proof that you can do it all (and better than him) if you're good enough and you put in the time and passion. With that being said, it's not like TB didn't improve at all for the past year and a half, he used to say some pretty ridiculous things back then, but now the content of his commentary is decent (well, let's just say it gives an accurate picture of what is happening on our screen), and to my understanding, he's doing a whole lot of other things than SC2 so we might admit that he doesn't really have the time to get to diamond or something. But I can't help but think that there are probably better full SC2 casters out there who don't have TB's fandom to carry them through, and it's probably a waste. tl;dr; Yes, you can have "roles" in SC2 casting, but a little knowledge doesn't hurt, whatever role you wish to assume.

Anyway I am glad to see MLG is picking up some of the up and coming casting talent that is out there. I remember a few months ago Jorosar was a rather unknown caster, but now he's gotten quite a few fans. Also I think Axeltoss is a pretty good caster also. Not a fan of Kibblez so much. Then again I also didn't like Husky during the early MLG events but since then he's grown a lot, and maybe the same will happen w/ Kibblez. Anyway I'll be there, and it should be an AWESOME weekend!

Point is, you can't make everyone satisfied, there are bunch of awesome casters in line-up - more happiness less whining. :-) Although i don't think he is the best (not even close), i do think he is a good caster. But i'm just courious, how come you don't like Day9?

By not missing the action do you mean exclaiming explosions when a thor shoots? I suspect you must be a ~silver legue player if you think they could understand gas timings and what is going to happen next... It's called a play-by-play commentator. Ever heard of them? There's tonnes of them around. I think YOU need to educate yourself before you post in this forum. And learn spelling too, while you're at it.

Obviously I've heard of "play by play" commentators, its just that most professional commentators actually know the game AND can "play by play". Read the thread before commenting okay? Your point has been addressed several times over.
