Today Team Acer can officially announce that Scarlett has joined our StarCraft 2 roster. The Canadian Zerg made a splash back in April at IPL 4 where she was able to upset more established names like Terious, DdoRo and DeMusliM. She also impressed in her 1:2 loss to Oz, best known for his GSL Code S Ro4 finish, at the same tournament.
Scarlett had the following to say about her move to Team Acer:
After DarkHydra joined Acer and Osho retired, management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues. Nerchio recommended me to fill the gap and so here we are! Hello to all my new teammates and I look forward to playing alongside you!
Scarlett has also won two NESL Iron Lady cups and the Playhem "Sponsor Me!" Tournament, which helped her reach the aforementioned IPL 4 event.
We here at Team Acer welcome Scarlett to our ranks and look forward to following her progress in future tournament appearances wearing our colours.
>>management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues. >>team consists of 4 zergs and a terran
Obviously, Scarlett is very good and Acer is good, but I'm surprised that Acer doesn't want more non-Zergs (barring balance issues) and Scarlett didn't go to a bigger team after Eclypsia.
Regardless, congratulations and good luck! Hoping to see Scarlett come out first for the next team match that Acer plays in and get an All Kill!
Sweet, was kind of worried for Scarlett due to jumping EC and then nothing happening for a while. Good pickup for Acer aswell, Scarlett is definitely a big talent.
management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues
4 out of 5 players are zerg. Am I missing something? <.<
My thoughts exactly... "We have 3 zerg and 1 terran. Clearly we do not have enough zergs to compete in team leagues." Yes, that seems to be the problem.

Jokes aside, gl scarlett and acer :D
god i read it as mass zergling build.
i think its pretty good for foreign teams to have a lot of players from same race actually since i know a lot of work i done over skype and due to time difference a lot of it is discussion/mental support w/e and is guess acer is the same so its a good fit
I'm so glad she got signed by this team, a big bump after Eclypsia imo, can't wait to see her at more events and playing team leagues again. Acer is kinda appropriate too, without being too mean Acer and Scarlett both have something to prove. Scarlett fighting!

It's sarcasm. Because back in broodwar during the time of ToT which led by Mondragon, the team is known for having a heavy zerg lineup.
Acer was already the most zergish team in the world, but now, between Scarlett's and Nerchio's comments, Acer became the team with the sharpest sense of humour, and I'm loving it.
I'm starting to believe that the only reason Acer ever signed DarkHydra is because they thought that a player with that name must be playing zerg. gratz to Scarlett! I'm excited to see how she will do in the future.

Totally understand the second ban, but not sure about the first. People have different views, and transexuality, as well as the mentality of those with it, are largely unknown. It is possible he was just unaware that that is offensive.
Probably going to get owned by overwhelming evidence and sarcasm if a mod bothers to reply, though lol
No matter if it was sarcasm, a mistake, or ACER being serious about the team needing more Zerg players, I'm absolutely thrilled to see Scarlett being picked up by a team again. Her performance in her 2 Iron Lady cups, Playhem, and further more to IPL 4 impressed many. I’m looking forward to seeing her performances in the upcoming year.

I wouldn't worry too much about the feelings of someone that's banned for two days(the horror). I'm sure he can cope, since it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Bans are as much about the person being banned as they are about setting an example. Someone's ignorant views on trans issues aren't relevant to this thread and fortunately TL has decided to not allow them on their site.
So far just about every thread on Scarlett degenerated into some mostly offensive and uninformed 'debate' about this issue, so please don't provoke the mods this time. :o

Gz to Scarlet and Acer. When I think about it I think she and Acer is a great match. Gonna be very interesting to see how much dmg she and Nerchio can do!
Awesome news. There has been a major void of good streams to watch lately. If Acer knows their business they will get you set up asap. I predict 10k+ viewers. I will certainly be one of them if it's something you decide to do! In any case, congratulations and good luck Scarlett!!

Good for her though one good tournament is enough to get offers from professional teams? Well we all have our work cut out for us then, just post a good result in a singular big tournament (her's was a fluke in my opinion) and you'll be on a team. I'm not trying to be criticle or say she's bad cause she does have skill though to be getting offers from teams like Acer and Quantic (or was it complexity?) I would think you'd need to show more then one result? But congratulations to her none the less.

Scarlett seems to be a decent enough player (constantly high GM) and proved that she can take down koreans under the right conditions. This, combined with the immense popularity that she possesses makes teams extend offers to her. Scarlett is unique in a way that most gamers are not and therefore gets offers that other gamers do not. She literally played in like 5 tournaments (only 2 were very big tournaments) and her fanclub has like 300 pages. That much popularity can be as valuable as a ton of skill to a team.

Maybe this is a new concept to people who don't watch sports at all. But this happens in every single sport in the world. Almost all new players are picked up based on their potential to thrive and not because they are already accomplished. Not to mention that teams like hype among their players and there is certainly a lot of hype for Scarlett.

Rarely is it only about results. Look at some of the most prominent players in the scene today and ask yourself if they are at the very top, if they 'deserve' to be where they are based purely on their skills. You'll find that a lot of them get by on other merits.
Scarlett is already damn good -- now she's going to be picking up things from Nerchio, who's one of the more creative zergs out there? This sounds scary.
Looks like Liquid may have a competitor for Team Zerg.

they got the swarm mentality right congratz to both but I think Acer should be really really really easy to snipe now in team leagues... I mean if you got a Zerg killer on your team then it's basically over.

I don't think you realize how incredibly difficult it is to have good results at a major tournament.

Let's keep it real here. The main reason for all this is because shes transgender, a girl. This has nothing to do with her showing good results at one tournament because there has been many unknown players who have done decent and they dont get the same exposure. Not trying to bash on Scarlett congrats to her but let's not pretend here.

Of course she would get an offer, i am not trying to say she is a bad player. You just can't honestly sit there and tell me any other unknown guy would get the same exposure as her because she is transgender. It's so bad people overhype her because of it when she didnt even win the tournament and beat 2 sub par Koreans, act like shes in GSL code S. Speaking of code S, Genius was in a GSL final and he is still team less. Again, i am not trying to hate on Scarlett congrats to her and getting in a team.

still waiting for you to identify these "unknown players who have done decent and they dont get the same exposure."
oh, and newsflash, she was transgender before the tourney, she had participated in tourneys before this one. she didnt ride the transgender train into a team position. she worked hard, she did well at a big tourney and she got exposure because of her talent. dont belittle her accomplishments by saying "The main reason for all this is because shes transgender, a girl."

For someone who's not trying to hate you certainly stumble on to an awful lot of it. All accidentally of course...
I thought its a undeniable fact that she got so much attention because she is transgender? There is always unknown players who put good results in tournaments but you never see them get even 1/4 of the attention she got.
Anyhow its not her fault because people are genuinely stupid. Lots of people get a ton of attention for all the wrong reasons..

It would make sence since Nerchio is going full time pro now.
Afaik Nerchio is satisfied with being semi-pro and don't plan to go full time. If he was planning to go to Korea, he would have to do it right now and make use of his holidays, because he's studying.
lol. He got recruited not for his skill but because he has a following as the first open transgender whose notably beat some pros.
O well, I'm not saying Scar isn't a good player. He could improve to be one of the main euros at some point but lets not pretend we don't know why they recruited him.
I've also always wondered about the technicalities of having Scarlett participate in Female only tournies. Although I've also wondered why there are female only tournies, once we get rid of them and beckon the female gamers to take part in all of the big offline/online tournies then we can count it as an extra step towards professionalism.

This is why I can't stand people claiming reverse discrimination. Nothing gets as discriminatory as dismissing someone's achivements as being obtained just because of their orientation/race/gender/blahblah.

seriously. i have so much respect for scarlett for doing that idc about her gender or anything, its the first time ive seen this, its absurdly hard to do. she was not a progamer by then, just a good player. its still a huge difference.
Maybe you "all she did was win a few games in one tournament" folks missed the KOTH where she stopped XQC, Hashe and others in their tracks playing very convincingly (lol creep covering entire maps after 15 min), also owning IdrA on his stream... You'd also have to be pretty good just to get invited to a showmatch against Kas. All that as well as holding a solid position in high GM, yeah sure her "fluke" in one tournament is the only reason why a team like Acer would be interested...

If I remember correctly she was invited to the Iron Lady cups by the organizers who already knew of her situation. They've also stated the iron lady cups are actually open to all players. None of the other iron lady players spoke out against her competing.

O_O what? I thought only girls could compete in that. It's kind of weird someone who is transgender would be allowed to participate in a all girl's tournament. I mean besides them thinking like a girl, genetically(Hello, XY) they are guys -_-, it's pretty much a guy who thinks he is a girl. I wonder how the other girls who participated in NESL thought of this

Because he's ignorant. Scarlett is a woman who was born in a man's body, thus she is considered female and called she.

I would think you'd need to show more then one result? But congratulations to her none the less.
Not trying to bash on Scarlett congrats to her but let's not pretend here.
name one person who didnt have a team, showed up at a a tournament, made a huge name for himself/herself by beating koreans and well known foreigners (demuslim), and then didnt get an offer for a team?
seriously. i have so much respect for scarlett for doing that idc about her gender or anything, its the first time ive seen this, its absurdly hard to do. she was not a progamer by then, just a good player. its still a huge difference.
I like her for the same reason I love illusion. Genuine talent in NA is hard to find.

Gratx to Scarlett. Glad shes on a legit team now, too bad about that Eclypsia shit.
Also people with genuine questions about the gender issue are not ignorant bigots. Dont be so damn politcally correct. Scarlett doesnt seem to care about the few douchebags who would say some rude shit. When she made her MLG run she said she exected this type of stuff to happen, and to be frank the people who are dicks about it are the tiny minority.

It is offensive to say "they are guys." Scarlett isn't a guy.
I won't argue with someone who obviously isn't logical.
Either way congratz to Scarlett for getting into one of the best euro teams.
logical: person = brain + body brain = girl brain > body. (brain defines who you are way more than your body does) person = girl
You can't be serious. Chromosomes don't lie. XY = Male. XX = Female
Don't come at me with your stupidity that you call logic. Now leave it, I'm sure he's heard this argument to death.
What's stupid is starting another discussion about Scarlett's gender when TL mods repeated several times that it's not something open to discussion here, and when they temp ban everyone who did or said "he".
so happy Scarlett found a new team. Nice roster, hope DarkHydra and Scarlett will make a name themselves soon! (in Scarlett's case: even more of a name)

Cool pickup! I've been looking forward to seeing what she can do in other tournaments. Team Acer seems to be very zerg heavy atm... I guess all you need is zerg these days haha. (joking ofc)
I also thought it was funny that she mentions that Nerchio recommended her, and then he posts about not seeing this coming.
So, she's famous for beating one Korean and got beaten by two other Koreans in the same tournament and resulting in 200 pages of fan club, the same number as the most popular Korean, MKP?

AHhh the injustice! Lets go shit on someone else because they are popular! I'm sure the fans of said person will certainly care that I think they don't deserve their popularity!
Hahaha. Team manager of Acer: Mondi. Team players: 3 zergs 1 terran. Mondi: "As you wish mighty Overmind. I will recruit more zergs, but keep this one terran to study the enemy."
He cant help it, he has zerg blood in his veins all the way.
EDIT: On topic. With nerchio scarlett will have a great practice partner.
'After DarkHydra joined Acer and Osho retired, management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues. " says scarlett, yet there was 3 zergs and 1 terran before she joined? lol im confused

well, wouldnt it be better if it did? What else has nourished this popularity? The fact that its a Transsexual?. I mean, there are plenty of people that has beaten one Korean and does not have nearly this amount of fans. Seems a bit unfair imo :p. Its not like Scarlett won fans with some super charismatic personality (not saying the personality isnt super charismatic, just that the reason was not that).
But then again, people can be fans of whomever they wish certinly, just find it funny how Scarlett have so many with so few results Just cause of a sexchange... prolly gonna get warned now, for being frank :p. I have nothing against any type of HBTq person, do what the fuck you want aslong as youre happy and dont hurt anyone.

She came out of NO where, having no teams, that's why! And being so close to beat a Code S Korean is something too, even if the result in the end was a loss, she impressed with her skills, and no one besides the viewers of the Iron Lady cup and the Playhem ''Sponsor Me'' tournament know who she was. And seeing her ladder games, she keeps improving, and the patch probably helps her a lot with her ZvT early game weakness, so I think she's potentially dangerous.

Don't pretend man. It is pretty obvious the main reason she is as popular as she is now is because of the gender change. She is a good player but again, dont pretend that it was her beating two mediocre koreans that led her to this fame. Sadly, women will always get extra attention especially in video games....that is just how the world works. She has potential to becoming a top player i just always find it extremely annoying how some fans overhype her to the point where they pretend she is already winning tournaments left and right. That and pretending her beating two mediocre koreans was the only reason for her fame. Just look at Incontrol for example, the guy is horrible by pro standards but he is one of the most popular pro's around because of his personality. It is the same here with Scarlett's gender change.

After DarkHydra joined Acer and Osho retired, management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues. To be honest that's the exact same thing I always think when reading about her. As great as it is that there is a female gamer now, all of this seems quite exaggerated to me.

the point is that even sub-par/mediocre 'unknown' pros dont just go into tournaments and beat koreans without even having SOME team...completely teamless and going into a tournament and doing decently means the POTENTIAL is there. i dont know how you cannot see that.
because of her potential, shown with her competing well without any support/team, she got a lot of hype and interest.

Is there something wrong with supporting players because you like them, not just because of their raw skill? I'm a Sheth fan because he's an awesome human being, I'm an Incontrol fan because he's fucking hilarious, I'm an IdrA fan because I identify with his struggle, and I'm a Scarlett fan because I think the scene needs more female (and trans*, for that matter) players. There are certain players, like the above, or teams, like Liquid, who I'll always root for, regardless of the results they're posting, simply because I like them. I'm not sure why this seems to offend you.

Sounds right.
So? Popularity doesn't come from how many games you win...only!
well, wouldnt it be better if it did?
She beat only one Korean, Terius, AKA BumbleBee; and 2 Koreans beat her in the same tournament.
Isn't Ddoro korean? either way they are both mediocre so doesn't matter.
the point is that even sub-par/mediocre 'unknown' pros dont just go into tournaments and beat koreans without even having SOME team...completely teamless and going into a tournament and doing decently means the POTENTIAL is there. i dont know how you cannot see that.
because of her potential, shown with her competing well without any support/team, she got a lot of hype and interest.
her gender only added to it; not caused it.
I already said she has potential. How many times do i have to say that i dont think she is a bad player, i was just mentioning the overhype which is clearly due to her being transgender. If you cannot comprehend that then you have clearly lost track of reality. Her gender didn't "add" to her gaining as much fans as MKP, it was the MAIN part of her gaining as much fans after just one showing. Skills are not everything when it comes to hype and interest. If it were guys like Genius and Supernova would have had a team by now. Kinda feels like i am beating a dead horse here so ill move on with my life.

There is nothing wrong with you liking and being a fan of Scarlett even if she went 0-100. It's just some fanboys who are already considering her the best and refusing to admit that her being transgender was the main cause of her instant fame. I have become a fan of Incontrol not because of his skill, but because of his overall personality. That doesn't mean i can't be honest and not overhype him more than he is as a player. Which is how i feel about about most of the Scarlett bandwagon hoppers.

Who are these people you're talking about that are saying she's the best in the world? There's like... a very small number of people that grossly overestimate her skill in the fanclub, most of us just recognize her potential and want to see her improve.
Scarlet threads are such ban traps. Great to see the community's general consensus about the fact that this trolling / bigotry / stupidity about her gender is not acceptable.
After DarkHydra joined Acer and Osho retired, management was beginning to worry that the Zerg presence on the team was becoming much too low to compete in teamleagues. Nerchio recommended me to fill the gap and so here we are! Hello to all my new teammates and I look forward to playing alongside you!

I very much agree with this. And all of the players listed above are really really good. It's not like they are the best of the best (right now; or maybe even ever), but that's not the only reason to be a fan of a sportsperson. You identify with the struggle. It may or may not have a happy ending. That's what makes it fun, right?
Anyway, that aside, I think Scarlett has real potential. I'm waiting to see what happens next. What's wrong with getting excited to see what the future holds for her? That's what being a fan is about right, cheering your hero on?
In passing - people who are distressed that others are overhyping Scarlett - I think you are misreading fan enthusiasm for something else. A manager can overhype. But we don't represent her commercially or anything. We are just fans. Fans cheer. Definitionally. You can only overhype if you are trying to sell something. Cheering does't equal overhyping. So there really isn't any need to be distressed.

Sure, when the entire roster is zerg, except one, rofl.

he deserves a cookie in my opinion. save half for the "rooster" too.

Unlike DarkHydra and ParanOid, whose entire list of achievements are 1 or 2 Go4SC2 cups...?
I don't know much about DarkHydra but ParanOid is a very good player who shows great games in team leagues, and I find his play way more impressive an convincing's than Scarlett

My knowledge of Scarlett is considerably low, but can someone mention to me why she is featured on the front page of TL as news? iirc she's had one or two OK shots at major tourneys but nothing worth writing home about.
Regardless, good for her I guess, hopefully she does well.

not really tbh
She defeated TypeReaL and TypePhoenix in some teamleague, and also some other fairly good EU players.

And ZENEXAvenge and KawaiiRice in IPL TAC3 qualifiers
She's also apparently been playing online tourneys and stuff on smurf accounts so it's hard to actually tell how well she's been doing
edit: also it's worth mentioning that in the tournament games we know of that she's played since IPL, she hasn't lost a map
so there's that
double edit: forgot that she lost to Kas 5-2 in that showmatch they did
While he was clearly being brash and asking for a ban, he isn't exactly wrong if the rumours of Scarlett being pre-op are true.
I don't have an issue banning him but some people are merely stating what is anatomically correct.. if we fail to recognize that in the name of being politically correct then we're no better than the people who fail to recognize evolution because in conflicts with the Bible's teachings.
Aside from that, I am interested to see how Scarlett can develop as a player. I would like to see her go to Korea to test her mettle against the best Korea has to offer. I have been impressed how far she has come considering she only started playing SC2 in April of last year. Even now you could say she is one of the top 20 or so foreigners based on results and potential.
