StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Patch 1.4.4
General
Messaging has been added to comply with provisions of a new Korean Online Gaming Law. These changes apply only to the Korean product version of StarCraft II.
Edit: copy paste too much, sorry. Reason I post this is because I am hoping someone from Korea can explain this gaming law; is it good or bad for esports? What is it about?

It's 1.4.3.2 (that is already in sc2), not 1.4.4.
So slooow

This is the only thing that has been changed i believe.

Am I having a brain malfunction...or has this patch already occurred....at least the balance portion surely did >_>
edit: nvm that's under the patch 1.4.3 portion ><

No thats the old one from 1.3.2 if I recall correctly.
This patch is kind of insignificant except for the korean messaging law, which I don't know very much about. Maybe somebody can clarify?

Thanks god, finally ! I've been waiting for this for so long....

i dont understand why this patch wasnt just applied to korean server? o_o
|
Misleading title.. especially when i saw balance and the word "terran"
|
Why'd you copy paste the last patch notes into this one? Seems confusing.

My client will no longer load........
EDIT:
After a few tries, I figured it out. If your updater stops at 0% but says completed, and when you click play it opens SC but then goes back to the updater screen here is my fix: When the smaller (really thin window) called blizzard updater opens (mine opened behind/under the patch screen) it will says waiting for files to close. All you have to do is close the patch window and it will start updating and then the patch window will open again and go to 100% and it will work. gl.

Misleading title, I suddenly had some hopes 2/9 matchups just got a ton easier

if that's the case, why does SC2 NA have to be updated anyways what the heck? >_>

What's misleading? It's about what it says it's about. This is me assuming the title has not been changed.

I do not consider some change that affect nobody on theseforums to be an official patch. I (and I'm sure many others with me) expected a balancepatch, seeing the terribleness that is the spectators experience atm.

Koreans can have versions of the game besides the KR client. I know quite a few who bought the NA version because the Collector's Edition wasn't available in Korea.

On sane operating systems (read: linux), you can set something like this up easily with a few lines of perl and a cronjob. I have no idea how to do this on windows but I imagine there is a similar feature. Instead of passing a law which is a pain in the butt for anyone writing games, why can't the Korean government just write software that does this (incurring the cost once rather than N times) and GPL it?

somehow Terran is weaker again... another nerf somehow.... Imba..

They nerfed my blizzcon decal =(. Before the Fist of Fury decal that you get from blizzcon would say Blizzcon 2011, now its just a pandaren paw.

It was like that to start with, then changed to blizzcon, now back to paw. For me personally I see it as a buff. PANDA POWER!!

Hi guys
I dont understand...
I opened SC2 today and says it is being patched. from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4
And as soon as I saw the Ghost snipe from 45 to 25 (+25 psionic), I realized that this patch is very similar to the previous one...
So, what is new in 1.4.4? Just that Korean messaging law?
|
So this patch/law means :
- young players will have less practice -> less chances of seeing upcoming korean players -> since all the good/decent terrans come from korea -> in the mid and long-run, Z/P will be even more represented in international tournaments
Once again, a patch is nerfing terran. That's evil and I find it very offensive.
|
Wait isn't it shifting the responsibility the opposite direction? Like, now game companies can say, hey, we provided you with a way to limit your child, and parents won't have anyone to blame but themselves if their child plays too much?
|
Im still getting version not recognized.

No clue why we had to download this if it only aplies to the korean server, find it a bit weird. They also installed a new download manager i think?

This blizzard updater thing is new , i have never seen it before when running a patch.

That shoulda been a fix if anything. It was supposed to be the paw in the first place. =P

I see the patch coming...my heart races...have our prayers been answered, has Terran finally seen some love?
LOL Nope, just some messaging controls. This "patch" could have been a hotfix and likely still worked just fine.
Troll Blizzard at it again.

Kids will go to hagwons most of the time anyways...all this does is let over controlling parents completely elliminate all gaming time

A little tip: after you installed and patched sc2 successful, backup the folder. After a patch destroy the copy again replace it with your backup. This happens to me for nearly every patch .. Saves a lot of time in the long run.

I guess I'll have to uninstall, then.

I think the messaging change should finally end all complaints about "terran imba." Without their illegal messaging capabilities, mutalingbane should also come back into style.

Still no patch 1.5?
I'm almost starting to think that it will just simply never be released.

Where are the bunker changes? o.o
|
On July 11 2012 05:48 KawaiiRice wrote: i dont understand why this patch wasnt just applied to korean server? o_o
technical reasons, it's generally unusual/unwise to have different gameversions (beside localisation) online at the same time.
|
i was wondering about this too... what is the korean online gaming law
|
Finally the game is balanced.
|
hm, I'm running into problem.
somehow I can't ladder after patching the new patch. (1.4.4....) everytime I press the 'find match button' it says that I'd need to download the latest patch. however, I already did. hence I can get into the 'multiplayer' tab and actually press the 'find match button'.
and on my login page, it says my version is 1.4.4...
so, I'm not understanding what should I do?
I did manually open the blizzard updater, however it says that there's no need to update. I opened the blizzard downloader and it says the same thing. there's no new download.
anyone can shed some light on me?
Thanks

The reason for it being put into all clients is to prevent anyone just downloading a diffrent server and new account, so someone from Korea just playing on EU or NA ect ect to get around a K server only update would still break the law there
