T/N: a bit of a random question before the interviews. I use the phrase "Anything to add?" for that ever present last question in every interview. I came up with the phrase when I started out translating and before I came across "Any last words" or "Any final comments" which seem more suitable now. I stuck with it because I'm stubborn and it reminds me of when I was a rookie. Keep it or change?
You have returned to Code S for the 8th season in a row
I am one step closer to the Nestea award, given to those who have stayed in Code S for 10 consecutive seasons, and that makes me happy. Yoda's playing against Supernova tomorrow and I helped him practise. I'm sure Yoda's going to win because he's playing really well lately. At the moment, Yoda is the best player on our team.
You used mech play to crush your opponent's bio forces in the first set
It went according to plan. In a 200/200 fight, mech is far superior so the fight was an easy one.
You scouted the proxy marauder rush straight away in Set 2. Were you suspicious?
For some reason, I got the feeling that a proxy marauder rush was coming my way even before the match started. Because of this, I changed my strategy and scouted. It was spot on. I think luck was on my side.
There have been a few qualifiers recently but you only got to watch them because you got seeded.
It felt great to be seeded instead of playing in the qualifiers. However, this time, I had to prepare for Code A so it's not like I took a break. I worked as hard as the players in the qualifiers.
Your teammate and junior Seed has the Code S finals ahead of him. Did you give him any advice?
He'll handle it fine himself so I didn't bother with advice. He told us that he would treat us to something nice regardless of whether he wins or loses. If he wins, good for him, if he loses, still good for us since we get to have a nice meal (laugh). The last Code S finals was IM vs another team but this time it feels like an all IM finals. We have a partnership with MC's team and we are close friends anyway. So, it's a bit different this time. I think we can all have fun regardless of the results.
Weren't you disappointed about being eliminated from Code S so early on?
I always blame myself for under-performing. So, no regrets here. What does bother me is that my play is suffering lately.
How is your condition and your cervical discs in particular?
I need to get treatment for the cervical discs but I postponed it because of Code A. Also, it's been a while since I lost interest in the game. The illness seems to have made it hard for me to enjoy the game and as a result, I've gotten worse.
When do you think you can become passionate again and return to your former glory?
Honestly, I can't say. All I can promise is that I will work as hard as I can.
Anything to add?
I hope the finals between Seed and MC is a fun and exciting one. I want to thank Happy, Yoda and dreamertt for practising with me. Also, I get really stressed out and frustrated during practice. I want to thank and apologise to my girlfriend who always stuck by me and helped me deal with my emotions every time it happened.
You are in Code S for the third time in a row, how do you feel?
So so. It was a Code A game so it wasn't all that special.
You must be used to Code S by now
When I was eliminated in ro16, I realised how precious the Code S stage is to me. Seeing other Protosses do well made me somewhat jealous. It motivated me into thinking that I should do better next season.
Did you have a reason for choosing 4 gate in the first set?
In his last interview, Gumiho said that he would be aggressive. Seeing that interview, I was going to play defensively but realised that I would be playing into his hands if I did so and attacked instead. I've almost never 4 gated in official matches. I think it worked quite well.
In Set 2, Gumiho tried a proxy but the attack did not come
The scout revealed proxy marauder. When the attack didn't come, I realised he had change up his strategy. If he had just attacked, it would have been much easier for me to win so that's why he gave up on the attack. This lengthened the match.
There have been many qualifiers recently. You have a seed into WCS and participating in WCG next week
The only reason I fell in ro16 was because I didn't have enough time to work on my fundamentals because of all the foreign tournaments I was attending. However, after my elimination, I worked hard on my fundamentals so WCG should be a breeze.
Lately, PartinG is the centre of attention. What's your view on this?
It's fun to watch. PartinG is a fun person to be around and I'm happy for him when he receives attention. He's got a weird side to him fore sure (laugh). He's someone who lives in his own special little world.
Do you get motivated by all the hype around other Protosses?
Watching this season of Code S was a great source of motivation. I was jealous of how well other Protosses were doing and this made me think that I should work harder.
Can we expect to see your return next season?
I'm working hard so please do.
Your goal for next season of Code S?
The Championship
You won the crossmatch tournament. How good were the KeSPA players?
The KeSPA players I played were pretty bad. However, many of the ones in the WCS qualifier were quite good. I think there's a big range of skill within the KeSPA ranks. There are both good and bad players. I think it will be very interesting for us to play each other. I'm looking forward to it.
Anything to add?
I want to thank Sculp and the Terrans on my team for practising with me. I want to thank the sponsors Red Bull, Zowie, Joy Gear and BenQ.
You are back in Code S after three seasons. How do you feel?
What I am most satisfied with is the fact that I beat two Terrans in a row to do it. I now know how to win even if I play rather badly in official matches. My mind is finally at east after the consecutive wins against Terran.
How did you come up with the blink stalker into DT build in Set 1
Frankly, I don't get to practise a lot because I'm getting ready for my high school diploma test. That's why I try to counter my opponent's builds. That's what I did for Set 1 and I think I was able to win because my opponent did what I predicted him to do.
Set 2 was a close game in which you lost because of a cloaked banshee
Lately, Terrans have been using hellions more in place of cloak. That's why I just attacked with the army I had. As I killed the Terran's natural, I thought I had won but I couldn't spot the starport. I quickly looked for it but didn't get to it in time to stop cloak. I was trying for a stalemate since there was only one banshee but as I lost the pylon, I knew I had lost. The game should have been mine from the beginning but somehow it became unwinnable and a stalemate would've been nice but I had to admit defeat. My GG timing was a bit late because I was thinking about what to do for the next set.
Hack went for a 1/1/1 in the last set. Did you see this coming?
I didn't. I scouted with a probe to see that he didn't have a natural and went into defense mode. Then, my observer saw his force which made me think that as long as I gave up my natural and successfully repulsed the attack, then I would be able to macro up and win. It went better than I expected because my opponent overextended.
Are you confident now after your consecutive PvT wins?
I have always been confident about the match up in practice. However, losing in official matches eroded away that confidence and put a lot of pressure on me. These recent wins have taken away a lot of that pressure and made things much easier for me. I saw Commentator Hwang's commentary on my match against Thorzain and his comments that even though I was playing poorly, I could get better at any time were a great help. I want to say thanks to Commentaor Hwang.
How well do you expect to do in Code S?
I understand that the next season begins mid-August. By then, the high school diploma test will be over and I will be focusing all my efforts on Starcraft. My inital goal is ro16 and as my PvT improves constantly, my final goal is the championship.
Just recently, you were eliminated from OSL and WCS qualifiers. How do you think WCG will go for you?
I think I can make it in WCG. I had given up on OSL and WCS because of Code A. There was also the high school diploma so I chose Code A and that over OSL and WCS. Now that I am back in Code S, I am able to work towards qualifying for WCG.
On the weekend, you will be in Busan playing in the GSTL finals
I was hoping to do an all-kill as the starting player but MMA will have that honour (T/N: hmm... the name is definitely MMA). If I do get sent out, I will finish up nicely.
What is PvT to JYP?
It was something that was stopping my progress. I don't think there's another player like me. Everyone seems to do about the same in all the match ups. However, my PvZ is far superior to my PvT and the balance is totally off. If I were bad at all the match ups, I could just stay out of sight but being bad at just PvT earned me a lot of criticism. I beat a lot of great Zerg players so this made me angry and frustrated. From now on, I'll continue to show great PvZ and overcome the hurdle that is PvT. I'll become so good at PvT that I think of it as a bonus matchup.
Anything to add?
I sincerely believe that SlayerS-EG will win in the GSTL finals. I want to thank those who trust in me and want to say that I love my parents. Also, Nestea keeps telling me that I'll be a free win for him in Code S half jokingly. I hope to face him.
You have succeeded in returning to Code S. How do you feel?
If it were Sniper that advanced to Round 3, I wouldn't have even practised for the match. However, it was Hyun instead so I became worried and practised a ton too. I faced him on ladder and found that he was extremely good. I'm lucky to have won.
In Set 1, you won after defending against roach drop
Entombed valley is insanely favourable for Protoss. That thing needs to be replaced as soon as possible. I think it was the map's fault I won.
In Set 2, your 6 gate rush was repelled
I lost because some of the stalkers got caught after a bad engagement. I think I could have won if not for that mistake.
You showcased another strong attack in Set 3
I like to macro but Hyun is someone who doesn't let you macro up freely. I took advantage of that and took the initiative first. Hyun's attacks are on another level and they can't be stopped.
You are teamless so are there any problems for you?
No problems but I'm definitely practising less. That's not a good thing so I think I need to join a team as soon as possible. I tried to join a foreign team but got rejected straight away. I wasn't even that audacious in my proposal but I think the market is probably too saturated with Koreans. Trying to contact these teams by myself is also difficult because of the language barrier. I think I need to look harder.
You got a seed for WCS but you have to go through the qualifiers for WCG
No one told me about the WCG qualifiers. I only learned about those yesterday after reading another player's interview.
Before the next season of GSL begins, WCS playoffs will be carried out. Are you confident you can become the player to represent Korea?
I was happy about the seed intially but now that it's about to begin, I'm starting to feel the heat. I will work harder than I do for GSL. As long as I reinforce my PvZ, I think I can win it.
You seem less confident compared to before
I don't feel different. I'm not sure.
Anything to add?
I want to thank Sniper for practising with me. I want to tell him to practise more. Everything I tried on him in practice worked. Also, there's a chair for SlayerS players at Mok Dong studio. Whenever I play on that chair, I win. I owe today's success to that chair. I want to thank SlayerS too. The team I applied for was TeamLiquid but I got rejected. I hope they contact me if a spot opens up.
I was so busy yesterday that I forgot about Code A. After yesterday's matches were over, I remembered and tried to get some practice done but had no time. Despite this, I advanced quite smoothly so I am very happy.
In Set 1, you defended the 6 pool successfully
I knew Line was going to all-in but I had no idea he would go so far as a 6 pool. I usually give up early in such situations but in this particular one, I knew what to do. There was only a slim chance of winning but I took it anyway.
You played a long game for Set 2
Metropolis doesn't let Terran finish the game early. Line is a player who prefers to be aggressive rather than greedy so I played defesively which dragged out the game.
You've been playing non-stop for two days so aren't you tired?
I was tired yesterday because it ended so late. I overslept today so I rushed to the studio as soon as I woke up but being well rested was helpful. I could play exactly as I wanted to.
Lately, you try very greedy builds against Zerg
Unless it's against a 6 pool like Line did, you can hold anything. That's why I keep using them.
Are you confident you will do well in the next season?
There are plenty of tournaments to attend other than GSL but GSL is the tournament for me. I would go so far as to say that I'm prepared to retire if I get eliminated in ro16 or earlier once more.
OSL and GSL will be on at the same time so doesn't that worry you?
The opposite actually. I don't have a problem with practising a lot so I think it will be fun to play in two tournaments at once. A player should consider himself lucky to be busy so I'm going to have a great time.
Winning both leagues must be enticing too
OSL is running for the first time and I haven't gotten to the finals in two years in GSL. Unless I overcome this crisis, I don't think I can become that S Class player (T/N: fairly certain MKP is referring to S Class here and not Code S). I will work hard to win both leagues no matter what and be recognised as S Class.
Anything to add?
I saw Reality's interview yesterday. He said that he was confident he could beat any GSL Zerg after he beat Symbol. I was shocked that there was a KeSPA player who was already better than me but after actually watching the VOD, I found that the level of play in that game was only mid-master or so. KeSPA players are good, sure, but not good enough to beat any GSL Zerg. I was eliminated from WCS qualifiers so I can't play him but I'm sure another GSL player will enjoy his free win in the tournament. I hope he's ready for what's coming to him.
Your thoughts on advancing to Code S for the first time?
It hasn't hit home yet. Yesterday's defeat is still fresh in my mind so I'm not happy yet. It feels like I just finished Round 2.
You lost to Reality in the WCS qualifiers
I know it's an excuse but I lost because I tried to save builds for today's match against Keen. He's someone I could have won against if I played normally but I think I complicated things.
Your thoughts on the KeSPA players?
I saw skyhigh and rush's games and they were both good. Not good enough that I would lose yet.
Your games today were very smooth
I was going to cheese in the first set but I changed my mind after losing to Reality. I used a similar strategy in Set 2.
What kind of mindset did you have in today's games?
It felt like I would enter a slump if I lost today so I focused hard. After the qualifiers yesterday, I did nothing but practise and I think that helped.
Were you confident about advancing to Code S?
I was. I've lost to Keen once in the past so I wanted to win all the more. That's what motivated me to practise even harder.
Anyone you want to face in Code S?
No one in particular. I'll just try to take it one step at a time as a newcomer.
Your goal for next season?
The championship of course (T/N: one step at a time, I see). Then again, I won't look too far and work hard to win each match in front of me.
Anything to add?
Today's my girlfriend's birthday so I have to go to her party quickly. There's something nagging me at the back of my mind but I'm not quite sure what it is.
I feel like I am home now. So rather than elation, it's more like being at ease because I'm back where I belong.
You started by losing the first set
Set1 was going according to plan. Then, I got too excited and engaged where I shouldn't have and lost.
Did that loss affect the rest of the series?
I lost the last Code S match after losing a game where I was ahead. After thinking it over at the training house, I decided that I get too hung up on games. So I tried to stop that happening today.
Your aggression in early game of Set 2 was very good
Everyone gets greedy against me. I've been wanting to punish them so I was saving this strategy and today, I got to use it. I think it countered my opponent pretty well and got me far ahead.
If you were to evaluate your own play today?
Other than the last engagement in Set 1, I'm pretty happy. In Set 3, I came back after falling behind so I'm extra satisfied.
You are now in both OSL and GSL and doing well
It's great that there are now more tournaments but I have no free time any more. I've been stressed out because of having no time to rest so I'm glad all that hard work is paying off.
Don't you fear losing?
I don't think any other player resembles my style at the moment and July advised me that I could draw attention to myself this way. I'm prepared to take all the criticism in the world even if I do badly. I will take responsibility for what I say.
Are you confident for both OSL and GSL?
Once I have a goal, I work hard to achieve it. My goal this time is to show games that I can be proud of. So I'm thinking that even if I lose to KeSPA players, I will go down in style.
Recently, the quarrel between Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 fans is heating up
I wish they would encourage and praise each other instead of fighting. There's no point or meaning to their quarrel. I call for respect.
What was that ceremony?
There's a ceremony I had ready for 2:0 but I only went 2:1 so couldn't use that one. So to save the original ceremony, I used Keen's ceremony instead. Keen lost today so I hope he feels better after seeing my version and gets into code S.
Anything to add?
I want to thank Crazymoving who helped me with practice for the dual tournament as well as Hack, Hoon and Harrier. The Zenex players moved in today so I want to welcome them. Team 8 won today and I hope they carry this momentum and win Proleague. I want to wish them the best. Coach Won always cheers me on so I want to say thanks as well as to Coach Kim and Coach Yoon. Recently, I've been receiving a lot of attention from the fans and whether it be praise or criticism, I just want more of it. Thank you for having so much interest in me.
Your thoughts on winning Round 3 and going straight to Code S?
I've lost to Ryung before so I was worried I might again and I'm very happy about this win.
You had an easy victory
Ryung got back from MLG only today so he looked very tired. I think that's why.
How did you prepare?
I'm focusing on GSTL so I didn't even know the maps for Round 3.
You took Set 2 easily with an all-in
I saw that my opponent was taking his gases late with an overlord. That's why I chose to all-in.
This was like a preview of what could happen in the GSTL finals so weren't you under some pressure to win?
Just in case I would lose, I didn't practise at all. Then, at least I have an excuse (laugh).
You're on fire lately so what's driving you?
Doing badly in Code S was frustrating but in the end, it helped. It's what motivates me now.
You are in Code S for the sixth season in a row
I feel like a mainstay player now. I will try my best to win the Nestea award.
All you have left to do is do well in Code S
I tend to do badly in Summer but next season is in autumn so I should post some great results.
The GSTL finals draws near
I have a great feeling about this. Since the owner and the parents are coming to cheer for us, everyone is working very hard. We can win this.
Anything to add?
I want to thank FXO for their sponsorship and Boss is coming in on the 26th so I hope he has a safe flight. I want to thank Coach Choi, Coach Kwon and Choya who always work so hard for us and say let's all work hard until the finals.
keep it as you like storywriter. And tahanks for doing these awesome translations
he should probably take abreakfor 1-2 weeks now and maybe even skip a season of code s. If you lost your passion there is nothing better than a good ol' break

It would just be weird reading your translated interviews without an "anything to add?" at the end. Keep it!
Wow, MVP says Yoda is the best player on the team ATM with Seed in the finals, MVP being MVP and Nestea being Nestea. Guess Yoda must be really amazing in practice.
Also, it's been a while since I lost interest in the game. The illness seems to have made it hard for me to enjoy the game and as a result, I've gotten worse.
For some reason, this make me even sadder than when he talk about his wrists pain.
Thanks for the quick translations! Keep the "anything to add?", it's kind of like your signature on these translations!
Also, I hope MVP just takes time off from playing to get himself healed up. I have a feeling he wants to get a Nestea award, than take a break till hots that way he doesn't feel like he's falling behind. I'd hate to see him pull a Boxer and have to take a large amount of time off because he refuses to let himself heal. I know he's a competitor and a champion and resting is extremely hard, but hopefully he realizes when his body needs to heal.

Anything to add is perfect. Any last words always makes it sound like the interviewee is about to die =p
====
MVP's interview is making me sad, I'm glad he won but...
Good to see that Squirtle is motivated. He seemed pretty unmotivated last season but I assumed that his RO16 loss would change that and it seems that it did.
How is your condition and your cervical discs in particular?
I need to get treatment for the cervical discs but I postponed it because of Code A. Also, it's been a while since I lost interest in the game. The illness seems to have made it hard for me to enjoy the game and as a result, I've gotten worse.

Who knows... Players all have their up and downs. MKP also mentioned Byun was the best Prime terran (this was before Byun made his splash in the current GSL). And make practice skills translate to tournaments and on stage can also be quite difficult.
As for MVP's passion, I think it has to do with the injury more than anything. He is probably frustrated that he can only practice a few games before his wrists acts up.
sigh...MVP, you can see it in his face in the picture, his spark is gone. It must be so frustrating to be the best player but you can't perform to your max because your body is breaking up.

Let's just say that Mvp needs... an Incredible Miracle.

MVP interview is sad but he's too good to bomb out of GSL, OSL, WCS so he can't get his treatment. It's sad that he isn't improving much anymore but he's still like the best player in the world at a GSL/ OSL type league with preparation.
MMA starting player for Slayers eh. Might as well. He's certainly still one of your 5 best players and pretty decent vs all races now that his TvP doesn't suck.
JYP to win Code S next season. He won against two Terran players to get to Code S and he doesn't even practice that much (and his test will be out of the way for him to focus on SC2 practice this month)... speaking of practice, there's a c at the end instead of a s, storywriter... no offense intended, I appreciate your work.

haha, if you use British English, you say practise for the verb and practice for the noun.
Having said that, I do get the two mixed up sometimes so I'll check.
edit: btw, Genius' interview is up and what a shame that TL wasn't able to recruit him or decided he wasn't worth it? can't see the latter being the case though
there needs to be an appreciation thread for the TL translators, journalists and the LR peoples. A lot of people take such "services" for granted but I think they are actually doing it for no pay at all. These vigilant individuals keeps us informed and is helping esports. Major thanks to all of you currently doing this
WOW Genius....TL shoulda picked him up. Hes one of the most popular toss players in the world. . I love the friendly banter between him and sniper though.
Genius is such a boss. I can't believe any foreign team would refuse him... In GSL results he is the biggest Korean so far to want to join a foreign team. Then he also has a personality that he'll easily gain a ton of popularity with. Makes no sense to me unless he was asking for some ridiculous amount.

well everyone that joins TL gets instantly overhyped and praised to the max.. Also excuses will be given if the player fails to perform up to their heights.
Ah, it's a shame Genius couldn't get into TL. I assume that it's because they're happy with how the team is right now, and not because Genius is lacking in results. Though it might be related to his 'requirements' or his personality in the context of the team too. In any case I hope he finds a team for him soon!

You are going to get banned for just saying "i'll probably get temp banned on this site" is seen as martying fyi.

Sorry, I use American English and I've never seen "practise" with a s like that. I had to question it. Thanks again for your translation services.
Poor Genius, even the foreign teams are rejecting him. Oh well, his reputation for moving teams and his inconsistent practice routines are his downfall.
Also wtf, MMA at GSTL finals? This MMA-thing is getting even more confusing by the day.

NEX/ZeNEX -> NsP (more of a clan than a team as he didn't join NSH) -> MvP -> Teamless
So technically it'd be NEX/ZeNEX -> No team -> MvP -> No team

Indeed, Squirtle's good looks are very underrated on TL I feel. His girlfriend is cute though so I think Koreans know that he is good looking. =P
You got a seed for WCS but you have to go through the qualifiers for WCG
No one told me about the WCS seed. (T/N: wtf, get your act together WCS) I only learned about the WCG qualifiers yesterday after reading another player's interview.
He said "No one told me about the WCG qualifiers." Not WCS.

I got the impression that the reason he didnt want to continue staying at ZeNEX when NEX and Zenith merged was because he didn't really like the practice environment. And even at MVP, I think towards the end of his stay (and pretty much during his finals run) he wasn't even staying at the MVP house anymore.

yeah, TiG fixed it up. Before, the first one was still written as WCG but they mentioned seeds (Genius only has seed for WCS like the question says) and the next sentence made it seem like Genius was talking about WCS. Now they changed it so that it seems like Genius only talked about WCG so I guess I'll match that but I still think the first statement was in regard to WCS.
I for one am happy TL did not pick him up for what reason it is we can guess all day. For me he does not fit the profile of a player that get's picked up and get's better and better under liquids wings.
Best of luck finding a team Genius, but you are right most spots have been taken by (lesser result) koreans.

Yes, because Taeja was so bad when he joined Liquid
I find it hilarious Genius describes his proposal as 'not even that audacious', the guy always gives such funny interviews. The line about not even needing to practice vs Sniper is pure gold after all the interviews between him and DRG in Season 1.
What? Liquid turned down Genius yet they keep guys who haven't shown any substantial results in more than a year? Strange, but I guess Genius just asked for too much. Still, the guy has talent, and a very outgoing personality.
And of course, it is great to hear that MMA is the starter for the GSTL finals. Hopefully this means the friction is now behind them.

Liquid is more of a "family" and I can't imagine them picking up anyone not named SuperNoVa at least until after they sign SuperNoVa.

I don't think they signed Taeja because he was "family", they signed him for raw talent. :p

Well since Liquid turned him down, here comes the EGRCGenius. It would be perfect, considering the trend of players in EG that dislike Naniwa. With all the hate they could use someone who could at least give him close games.

I have a pretty good feeling that OSL will motivate him, but honestly, I think that he should just take time off and get surgery, unless he plans to retire from progaming completely in the near future.

I'm pretty sure he's unmotivated because he can't practice as much due to his condition.

Where did i state Liquid picks up players that are bad ?
It's more hilarious that you can't seem to read properly.
The team I applied for was TeamLiquid but I got rejected. I hope they contact me if a spot opens up.
Liquid rejected Genius?
Makes sense, genius is kinda...weird in a way. Unstable in his training regimen and being kinda douche bag(jokingly way) sometimes. I like him but would be understandable image wise.

I understand this, but they still had room to grow. Any more after TaeJa and they're really getting to the point of being too damn big.
Contract expiry season means there are actually just so many free agents floating around nowadays, in addition to the Koreans who left teams (or lost teams).

I'd bet it has more to do with the fact that his hands barely work whenever he has to play for very long. It's a shame, I'd love to see him get back into the form he was in about a year ago where he was clearly on a higher level than everyone else in the world. It was really something to watch.
There are plenty of tournaments to attend other than GSL but GSL is the tournament for me. I would go so far as to say that I'm prepared to retire if I get eliminated in ro16 or earlier once more.
what...
I'm sure another GSL player will enjoy his free win in the tournament. I hope he's ready for what's coming to him.
dat bm!
Unless it's against a 6 pool like Line did, you can hold anything. That's why I keep using them.

I respectfully disagree with you due to one point: GSTL. If Liquid wants to do well in the GSTL and not get embarassed like this season, they need more players, and strong players at that. Liquid is a strong team, if you compare them to Mouz, or Acer, or Empire, etc.
But Liquid demonstrated that it wanted to be the best in the world when they signed up for the GSTL, and Hero and Taeja will not be able to carry this team alone. They need depths, and while they may be growing, for a GSTL team they are too damn small right now :p

At least in internal team matches (it seems). That doesn't mean that he will perform at the same level in official matches. Many players start to choke.
I'm saddened by Nazgul's player picking policy. A bunch of guys who combined alltogether have a 1% chance of one day winning Code S + Taeja (who will probably switch teams as he gets more successful, like it happened with HuK).
TL gets insane exposure, how is it possible that they have to settle for 3rd tier players, while rejecting a skillful Korean with an interesting personality like Genius?
With the amount of unique visitors every day, TL could have the most sponsor money of all teams, the best players, competing to win GSL and GSTL every season. For example, out of the 3 best foreigners, Stephano, Naniwa and Thorzain, none of them are on TL.
Even if they say a player has to be especially mannered etc (which you could say eliminates Naniwa and maybe even Stephano), what's wrong with Thorzain?
Sad to hear MVP being so negative about his condition. Hopefully he will accept the idea that he needs treatment soon, and will not feel obliged to play in spite of his illness because of his sense of duty. Taking a break might be for the best. I also found curious to know that Genius applied to TL and was rejected "right away". I suppose that the management found that his personality didn't fit the team guidelines.
Wow I never realised Leenock has been in code S 6 times already. Ah feels like yesterday when he finally cracked out of Code A *sniffs*
And yeah, also worried about MVP's interview. I hope he goes and gets the treatment finished already, almost wish he'd stop delaying it for games and just get it done.
Recently, the quarrel between Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 fans is heating up
I wish they would encourage and praise each other instead of fighting. There's no point or meaning to their quarrel. I call for respect.
Thank you parting I'm amazed at how diplomatic parting can be with disputes despite how cocky he is.

Mvp needs to get his wrist fixed already. Quit worrying about tournaments, fix your hands, become King again and get back your drive to win. Until then I shall channel all my passion into your exploding wrists. <3
There's a ceremony I had ready for 2:0 but I only went 2:1 so couldn't use that one. So to save the original ceremony, I used Keen's ceremony instead. Keen lost today so I hope he feels better after seeing my version and gets into code S.
On the weekend, you will be in Busan playing in the GSTL finals
I was hoping to do an all-kill as the starting player but MMA will have that honour (T/N: hmm... the name is definitely MMA). If I do get sent out, I will finish up nicely.
Reading JYP's interview, really revealed my heart, concerning the whole topic about MMA. I hope MMA and SlayerS will start to get along again. Else i can't explain why they would use MMA as starting player...

The only person I can think of that got better under TL has been Hero and maybe Ret.
I think TL has made some pretty good pickups. Hero and Taeja are obviously the biggest headliners I'd say, but I've still a notable improvement in everyone else's play as well, even if it's not past the threshold of getting them into the GSL.
Hmm MKP doesn't seem to like Reality that much xD Also Heart seems a bit egocentric to me. Maybe thank you know.. Like your team or something? The sponsors?

I just think people need to stop with the whole "he doesn't fit Liquid" crap. How similar were these tree pick ups, Hero, Zenio, Taeja??? They're not similar at all, they're completely different. Hero was b-teamer who had talent but no exposure. Liquid saw this and thought they could develop him. Zenio is a weird pick up. He's a guy that's not liked by many and he is low/mid level talent that already hit his ceiling. Taeja was raw top talent that was available at the right time. He was also already hugely popular within the SC2 community. I don't think Liquid has any real policy on player pick up, it's more like what they can afford and who is available at that time.
Glad Liquid didn't pick up Genius, the MVP situation always seemed shady to me and I've always found him rather arrogant. Normally I'm a huge fan of arrogance and trash talking, but it isn't a liquid thing.
As for MMA opening... FUCK YEAH! Bring on the GSTL hype!

No. Other teams, such as Mouz, EG, Empire,.... have diverse business. They have teams for other games too, such as CS, DotA, LoL,..v.v..v. their players across all the games all have pretty good and consistent results to back up face for sponsors. Tha makes them appeal so much better to sponsors, and people also visit their webpages for all the games they play, which make their unique visitors comparable to TL. TL isn't better than other teams in any way.

Him and SuperNoVa have been Code S for really long and have yet to find a team. It's saddening how quickly Heart, Killer and NaDa got picked up by Complexity but how long it's taken for both of them to find a team. Maybe it's a salary bargaining issue. *shrug*.

Mostly confidentiality reasons. Usually businesses (in this case teams), like to negotiate knowing that what they do won't all be made public.
It also hurts Genius' chances to find a team. Other teams might wonder why Liquid turned him down, does he have a significant problem (poor work ethic, personality clash...not saying that Genius has these problems, but hypothetically speaking) that caused Liquid to quickly reject him? It also casts scrutiny on Liquid. Why did they reject such a strong player in Genius (Blizzcon winner, GSL finalist, Code S)? People may perhaps wonder if it is caused by a lack of financial resources on the part of Liquid (couldn't afford him...once again, purely hypothetical for the sake of example), which I'm sure a team would not want to advertise.
Genius lol. I love the volume of interviews. 4 concurrent korean tournaments is something else. I can barely watch the games but the sports aspect of all of them together is so great. Thanks sdub

easy. TL loves to show off their players and integrate them into the community as much as possible, just like EG imho. The already have their show-off-protoss, another protoss would split the TL-Protoss fans. Also, TL is the gate to korea and the most well known Team over there. They can do whatever they want;-)

I really don't think there's any concern about stealing Hero's spotlight, when has anyone in TL ever bickered over something so trivial? It especially doesn't have anything to do with race (Look at their Zerg count when they picked up Zenio). TL recruitment just doesn't work that way.
Dang, I want Genius to find a team so bad! If he put forth a practice routine such as most of the other players...he would be insanely good. Sad to see Liquid turn him down, but I know they must have good reasons to do so.
And also, I laughed about the "Slayers Chair" that Genius used!

I wouldn't know about Haypro, Nony has a medical condition. Not that some of TL's players shouldn't be kicked out, I'd love to see some of them go, but it looks like if you get in TL they'll never let you go.

i doubt its his rep as a slacker that was a problem
nazgul has said more than once he is looking for people who arent at the top yet, but have the drive to grow as a player. now if being a slacker stops that, that can obviously be a problem. but its probably more of an issue that genius is already at the top and probably asking for a salary of a code s finalist. but its all guess work

They're "slackers" if that's what you want to call them. But someone like NonY is insanely popular.

The way I see it, Liquid is trying to maintain their image of being a 'family', which is why they wouldn't pick up someone like Genius. He has an interesting personality, but not one that would fit too well into Liquid methinks.
Seems like a lot of Koreans are interested in joining Team Liquid. It's a pretty prestigious team these days I have to say. If they had the money/if it would be profitable, they would've auto-picked up SuperNova and Genius.

Haypro lives in Korea so I doubt he slacks.
So does Genius I don't follow your logic
Haypro voluntarily moved there. He is in a different culture and in a practice house which shows to me that he is dedicated to practicing and improving. Meanwhile Genuis lived and grew up in Korea while living outside of the practice house.

Well, Genius is a genius and Haypro is.............. yeah
If Genius can stay at mid Code Sish level while barely practicing, imagine what he could do with some more motivation.

Liquid is, first and foremost, a foreign team. Could you imagine the public outcry if they started going the way of Fnatic or FXO? People would be getting banned left and right. They have their Korean trio, and that is really all they need.
Similarly, I don't really see EG making a big move for him either. The personality kind of fits and foreigners either love him or hate him... but EG has JYP to fit their Korean Protoss needs and they seem to be happy with him.
Please pick up Genius Team Liquid!!! I cannot stress how amazing this would be. I know it may not be financially viable what with TSL4 coming up and having 9 players already on the team but this is certainly something worth sacrificing for.
Once I have a goal, I work hard to achieve it. My goal this time is to show games that I can be proud of. So I'm thinking that even if I lose to KeSPA players, I will go down in style.
was hoping to do an all-kill as the starting player but MMA will have that honour (T/N: hmm... the name is definitely MMA). If I do get sent out, I will finish up nicely.
I think Genius would have been good for TL but I can understand wanting to stay a foreign team... it would be 6 foreigners and 4 koreans then and thats starting to get pretty korean
I love MKP's defense of GSL players. It reminds me of a past GSL group selection show, where when it was MKP's turn to speak, the first thing he did was refute someone's assertion that Nestea wasn't as good anymore. MKP sticks up for his colleagues like a champ. It is the easiest thing in the world to love that man.
Thanks again for translations! I love the contrast between Squirtle and Parting. Both are confident, but Squirtle seems so serious while Parting seems to be more of a goof.

Well if he doesnt stick up for NesTea he would probably be vaporized, so he didnt have much of a choice.

I saw that, but that seems like a crazy thing to admit to.
I guess its just this odd SC2 competitive scene where you pick players based on race/nationality rather than their skill in the game.
Liquids team is quite big, so its fine if they don't want to take more players.... but to say no more Korean players, seems a bit wrong. Perhaps better phrasing would be no more players would would train out of Korea, rather than no more Korean players.
Still refreshing of Genius to be so honest about his efforts, and even refreshing of TL to give a clear reason.
Maybe TL is holding out for MMA With TL's great reputation I think they could create an all-star team if they really wanted.... everyone would love to be a part of TL's empire.

How is it wrong? They are a foreign team that take pride in being a foreign team. Nothing wrong with that. A few Koreans can help the fanbase and increase exposure worldwide. More than that becomes redundant, especially when you're a foreign team with foreign sponsors.
I think Liquid's next step is NOT signing foreign players, they're already THE foreign community. Unless it's a fan-favorite like Stephano, they should focus on big Korean names/promising Korean players so they can do well in team leagues and grab sponsors and also exposes Team Liquid to Koreans and show them they're the most serious foreign team. They could grab one top top level foreigner that could go compete in GSTL and keep their foreigner team image though.

One foreigner doesn't really make it a foreigner team though, if the other 8 or 9 guys are Korean.

Its not his wrists that are the primary concern, its his spine. I would say its far more important than Flash's wrists, not treating back injuries is scary stuff.

it results from sitting infront of a computer alot with bad posture. inflammation in the cervical discs can lead to wrist pains which i think is what hes suffering from.
i suffer inflammation due to posture and excessive alcohol intake and my wrists started hurting alot last year. ive stopped drinking so much and improve my posture + eating healthier foods and my condition improved somewhat. still hurts when i spend extended periods gaming though.

Haypro wasn't a hacker, you do these accusations. Read the entire article before assuming these as facts.
I had a blast reading all of the interviews. I hope MVP gets better, he just doesn't seem to be able to catch a break. Squirtle and JYP's interviews were okay. I was a bit baffled about JYP's last comment regarding Nestea; wonder if thats true and if there is some back story to it. Genius not being able to join TL, I'm fine with that. I wouldn't want HerO being replaced <3 MKP had this side to him I've never knew of before. I'm glad there is some competitive tension between the KeSPA and GSL players. Hopefully its all in good fun though, the last thing SC2 needs is a feud between BW and SC2 fans. The last few interviews were meh, but like Parting's quote.
Recently, the quarrel between Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 fans is heating up
I wish they would encourage and praise each other instead of fighting. There's no point or meaning to their quarrel. I call for respect.

I see your point, and it makes sense based on the business model of SC2 teams... .that being said, most team in most sports are rewarded for winning, and therefore they seek to acquire the best players regardless of nationality or ethnicity.
When winning is the basis for reward, then you naturally don't care about nationality or ethnicity when picking your players.... however, when popularity is the primary basis for reward it becomes a bigger factor.
I don't fault TL for this, they are making sound decisions based on the reality of SC2. Its just sad that winning and talent aren't the biggest factors in determining a players value.

uhh winning and talent are the biggest factors... do you think that Incontrol's value compares to Taeja's? A popular charismatic Protoss versus a non charismatic person who could be the best player in the world over the last few months.

Liquid is more of a "family" and I can't imagine them picking up anyone not named SuperNoVa at least until after they sign SuperNoVa.
I don't think they signed Taeja because he was "family", they signed him for raw talent. :p
but like, in liquid rising, they want players they can develop genius is well developed and possibly has already peaked.
Do you actually believe that fluff in the doc? They pick up less established players because it's cheaper since liquid doesn't have unlimited funds like EG.
I'm really suprised Complexity isn't jumping all over Genius. The Koreans they picked up have no personality at all and Genius is more well known/better skill wise (at least indicated by Code S results) than all of them.

Stephano isn't exactly what you would call the most responsible and upstanding of foreigners. There's been plenty of times when he's no-showed for NASL matches, EGMC matches, IPL TAC matches, etc.

First off, Haypro was "hacking" in the sense that he accidentally left an illegal program running when he started an important match or something. It wasn't with the intent to cheat, it was "oh shit, I left a program that I use to practice on and forgot to turn it off". An honest mistake.
Stephano is controversial, and his relatively low practice time and drinking is well known. But it is naive to think that he is the only progamer who is drinking. Most progamers (young men) like to go out and party and drink, especially during tournaments. In that regard, it is a bit unfair to single Stephano out.

To be honest I think TL is best off cutting off all the subpar players they have like Haypro, Sheth, Jinro and TLO and just going for less players with some koreans and maybe 1 or 2 foreigners. As far as results most TL players are severely lacking and except for TLO maybe they don't really have the personality to make up for that. Quality over quantity really when a team is a bit lower in budget. Sending koreans or europeans to american tournaments is probably roughly as expensive so as TL I would have gone with some good europeans and the rest koreans. Hard to disband standing contracts they have though especially knowing that some of the guys when dropped from TL would likely never find something remotely as good as again.

I don't know about the cutting off of subpar players straight up, but they should cut the ones that don't put in the practice (NonY, Ret if that's true). It used to be that I could just enjoy seeing them based on their personality/playstyle but that is no longer the case. TLO has gotten to be kind of arrogant (despite still showing few results), Jinro has always complained about the OPness or luck of his opponents but at least he had wins to show he knew a little about what he spoke about, and the others just seem to have declined in skill while still having no personality.
This is all without taking the korean mercenaries into account, of course.
What is exactly the problem with Genius' reputation? All I've ever heard is that he's kinda cocky.
If TL doesn't want him based on that, they really need to reconsider their priorities. Having players who don't win or don't practice, but are pleasant to be around can only take you so far.

no, they just didn't get him because TL didn't want to sign a new player.

Nah, they said they like to get lesser established players and build them up. And they aren't interested in signing a Korean.

Being an SC2 pro isn't only about winning, it is mainly about marketability. The same with almost every other sport out there.

That really isn't much of a problem with Genius. He seems extremely marketable, more so than Zenio or Taeja at least. His friendly banter and cockiness with teammates would actually vibe well within the team I think, that is one of the things they lost when Huk left and they haven't got back yet. I think if TL was set up or looking for another player they would love to have Genius, but they just aren't at the moment. If Genius wants to wait for TL to want another player I'm sure they'd take him in the future.
I have even more respect for Nazgul; a lot of foreign managers would have jumped at the chance to grab Genius, but the fact that Nazgul stayed adamant to his team philosophy is incredible.
This is why Liquid is always a little better and a little different. They do things their way, and they keep faith in their players.

He's a B-Teamer.
The B-Teamers come out first in GSTL :p
Or its a "You want to redeem yourself? Ok your going first so you can prove us wrong about putting you on B-team" So MMA might be really stuck in B team if he can't manage to take out a few people during the finals in a convincing manner. Also seems like motivation as I kind of mentioned above.
OH SHIT.
Mr. Chae better set up a Reality vs MKP grudgematch.

I would say him and TaeJa are about on the same level, but hes a much bigger name than Zenio.

I absolutely agree with this. That "family" philosophy is why I love team Liquid so much

korean protoss: check korean zerg: check korean terran: check
no need for genius. Also, genius is not the kind of guy who wants to let his playstyle being dictated by strategical minds and he is only the executive, which imho is the liquid standard with koreans: find a guy with awesome textbook-mechanics but without a playstyle of his own, and find strategies that suit him. yes, thats nonys hobby;-)
best fit for genius would be mill or fnatic id say.

That's the exact opposite of the kind of players TL looks for.
the liquid bias is strong in the past few posts rofl, if a team like coL didnt accept genius everyone would be saying its becuz of financial issues or attitude problems of genius. Edit: not saying that liquid aint a family
I don`t think that Liquid will sign another player in 2012. At the end of the year it could be though that 1 or 2 players might opt for retirement and that might lead to a larger overhaul. In that case I would like them to aproach players of the calibre of Feast or Illusion who show both talent and dedication.
MVP looks almost mortal with his haircut. He used to have an aura of invincibility with his Beatles' cut before, but now he looks like his mother cut his hair. I guess I might be seeing through his appearance some of the comments he is making about not doing well lately. Last year I would have laughed if someone, including MVP had said that Yoda is currently the best player on IM, but he has been playing very well lately.
