Although it's always nice to see more friendly competition, the last thing we really need is another map-making team. What we need, as a mapping community, is sponsorship and people who actually give a crap about community maps on a regular basis. that's a really weird opinion to have because the two aren't mutually exclusive. More map teams does not mean less sponsorship/people who care about maps. And anyway, what are the people who want to make maps and form a small group together supposed to do? Stand back and watch ESV/CRUX/TPW steal the limelight simply because they were there first?
Okay, I need to clarify this.
What I previously said may come off as a bit 'arrogant', but that is not the deal. More map-making teams is a good thing, and I can easily agree with that without hesitation. I know what the learning curve is like when you are part of (or start) a map-making team. I was on TPW when it first started so I know and understand this. New map making teams are something that is needed, and it is great to have.
BUT. I am not disregarding them or saying they aren't worthy, welcome, or needed. I am merely saying that while every new map making team is great, it still won't FIX what is deeply, truly needed in the map community as a whole.
If I offer map suggestions in newer map threads, people fool me into thinking I'm a guru who has all the answers to life's problems. Even when I made this thread people still somehow thought I was being arrogant and stuck-up.
sigh, I can't help without getting hammered.

I'm so impressed with these maps. I've been having so-so feelings about most of the current maps. Not enough diversity when it come's to the 'looks' of the maps, but these look very good. Excited to play on them!

Whether or not IronMan was courteous enough isn't the topic here. Don't stir up things needlessly, it's the last thing you want.
We have all seen the time it takes fr new maps to be included into tournaments. I have too much to do right now to be working on LP but I always had the idea of having better maps articles (I have lots of ideas but I'm way too lazy ) but I can't identify competitive maps when the scene is stagnant because players are fucking obnoxious about new maps (looking at you naniwa and idra ...) and can't spend 10 hours working out new schemes - as if pro football players would refuse to play with new balls just because they are changed. And the direct consequence is the tournament organizers being very cautious about this (and again, I'm blaming the same childish behaviors from some players
So until a central federation has sufficient power to draft maps and control rules alike, it's going to take a lot more than goodwill to make something happen and in that sense IronMan was perfectly right. Another team is pretty useless when every other existing one is out of jobs ...
PS : That being said, I'll create a LP page for you when I am back to a normal schedule (you can PM about that too)

I hope things go well for Dreamforge! Having another map team means there can be some competition (even though I'm not a proponent of the free market capitalism approach) to make the best maps, which there isn't a whole lot of right now.

always cool to see more mapmakers putting time into this.
And dat drama <3 (dont ban me): + Show Spoiler +

a. You aren't really helping. You are just expressing an opinion about the state of the mapmaking scene. b. This is really not the right place to express this opinion. This thread is about a new team entering the map making scene. If you want to make a post about the problems faced by the map making community, then by all means, go ahead and post it on a separate thread. But it is out of place for you to go ahead and post something like "The last thing the we need is a new mapmaking team" on this thread : you will end up getting bashed for it and people will think you are afraid of competition.
My $0.02.

it still feels like you simply came into this thread to piss on their parade. You basically said "I decree that we don't need you, we need more of x and y." No wonder people think you're arrogant (and certainly speaking above your station.) And why did you think the formation of a new mapmaking team was an attempt to "fix" anything? Not everything that happens in a community a unison drive towards some singular purpose

Hope this and other teams are able to get tournaments to diversify the map pools...apparently even GOM needs to listen considering they still have Antiga and Entombed lol (but maybe that had something to do with Kespa participation).
|
Really encouraging to see mapmakers taking the initiative! People need to recognize the quality of work going on in the map making community and this is a great step. I know I'll see more excellent things from you guys in the future. (You've already got an awesome portfolio going. I'd nominate Rkynick's Infernal Involution for next inductee)

Good luck guys!

its nice to see one popping up for the foreign scene, we need good mapmakers.
wtf dude, so arrogant

Great to see another map making team, lets hope this new from of competition gives a little push to the map making community who's been suffering of stagnation since tournament are very shy introducing new maps.
|
Ancient Fates and Gehenna looks like they have a bit too much focus on chokes/longer pathways. The rest of the maps looks pretty good tho. I particularly like DF Bazaar and Black Thorns.

This is gonna be awesome I hope to see some great things from you guys

It would be funny to see you banned again though. What name would you pick then?
"Hi, it's HeartoftheWarhound, formerly known as Terranlover, formerly known as Mereel, still on TPW, and I present... A MAP!!!" :p

i'm a fan of whitebane gorge. best of luck to you guys.
good to see the entire mapmaking scene isn't inactive, yet :D

We've all been mapmakers for a long time now, being now a team won't change the number of maps we produce, but it will improve the quality of our maps. There a re plenty of tournaments out there to get our maps in, if ESV has an agreement with GSL and TPW with IPL or whathever, we still can deal with other tournaments and bring something new to the SC2 scene. Even if our maps are not good enough but help us and the community figure out what is a good map and what's not, wich part is good and wich one isn't, we'll still be usefull to the whole SC2 scene.
We make maps, deal with it
btw all our maps (including Black Thorns) should be available on both EU and NA now.
and again if you want to support us please play our maps, and post replays, screenshots or VoDs of you games.
