Pretty simple, folks. Fill out with half your heart (what you want to see happen) and half your brain (what you think will happen). After 24 to 48 hours, if I get a good outcome, I'll put up the results.
So, TL, who do you think will be the champion this season? Call it now.
Fun stuff! I'm really excited to see the results. Whenever doing Liquibets or GSL polls you only ever get one side of the vote so I'm excited to see the "heart" side. Thanks Fionn =)
Hoping for MVP vs MKP, think it will be Taeja and Rain.
The story between MKP and MVP would be just too good. MKP can never beat MVP, so if he could overcome that for his first GSL win it would be amazing! + Show Spoiler +
I picked Rain for who I thought to win it all. I'm really not sure where his skill is though because I've only seen a few of his games, but he looks absolutely amazing.
Hopefully MKP at least gets to round of 4, I just love watching him play. Life is looking pretty damn good though so that should be a good match.
Now that I have put the idea of Symbol vs Life in the finals I will be disappointed if anything else happens. To be honest though it can't go wrong as long as all the toss get eliminated.
I kind of really really want to see Rain v. TaeJa again, since Rain made him look like a child last time it'd be interesting to see how TaeJa would handle the series. Also, epic revenge games ^_^
I think MVP will win it all again. I would love to see a Leenock vs. MVP finals as well. Leenock is the most exciting zerg to watch IMO and I think these two would make a fantastic finals.
Agreed, I would love to see a MVP vs. Leenock Finals. However, my reasons differ. I want to see MVP finally defeat Leenock in an important GSL game. The last games I watched were Leenock knocking MVP out. Revenge! XD

mvp beat leenock the last time they met in gsl, in the season he won
Most exciting games would probably be MVP vs Leenock. Most interesting storyline would be MKP vs MVP. Predictions are impossible given the skill levels of players and volatility of SC2.
since some poeple are posting some of their choices.
Want: Mvp vs Leenock (if anyone was wondering why, go watch the vods of their previous gsl meetings)
Think: Rain vs Life / Mvp vs Life - was hard to decide, my choice ended up being Mvp vs Life (I like Waxangel's stance on never betting against Mvp in the GSL)
Symbol vs Taeja or Leenock vs Mvp would be ideal! Fucking praying I don't get my fucking dick slit this gsl. Like a tvt or pvt or pvp or zvz only few people dervse a title shot and to me it's leenock, symbol, and taeja(mvp causes he's champ" Fucken hell mate! Just fucking hell man>< lmfao Cunts

I think Rain got incredibly unlucky to have to play Hero, if he gets anyone else I think he makes it to ro4 but Hero's micro and PvP is just too good for him to beat imo. I think Symbol beats MVP and sets up a sick ro4 vs Hero. Leenock vs Taeja is tough to pick but Taeja is running hot right now so you might have to think he's the favorite, but it could go either way. I don't think MKP or Life are good enough to take out whoever wins in Taeja/Leenock, so I think they would definitely make it to the final.
I think there's a decent chance there could be a Liquid vs Liquid final and I'm pretty certain at least one of them will make it.

yes, but unfortunately, HerO is known for his shaky pvp...
i'm not saying that i want him to lose- its the opposite
Hero, Symbol, Taeja, Life advance from the ro8. Taeja over Life, Symbol over Hero in the ro4. Symbol beats Taeja 4-2 to become the Season 4 GSL champion.
Only one I'm not sure about is MVP/Symbol. MVP can be a beast in bo5, but I feel like his wrists are gonna hold him back in ways a player like Symbol is too good at abusing.
I'm thinking it will be MVP in the end. People talk about his wrists, but it's really his neck that causes a lot of his problems. And even with his issues, he has been playing amazingly. Perhaps he can rest a bit, and make sure he's at his best for the matches.
Other than that, MKP obviously. But despite my platonic manlove for MKP, I have to give Taeja a better shot. So MVP vs Taeja for epic TvT finale. Rain on the Royal Road would be amazing as well, but I still think it's going to be a TvT.

So basically you are just trying to get an info advantage over everybody else, then you can manipulate anyway you want.
And what's wrong about my vote? I believe Rain and Taeja are the best, and I happen to like their styles also. I think it's pretty common in TL right now. And the polls are so simple, no need to spend time at all.

It would be a cool storyline, but teamkills usually produce whacky games that are based more on mindgames and stuff, and you learn a lot less from them; these are guys that practice PvT together all the time, they know one another's ins and outs, so it would be probably all over the place.
Predicting Rain vs. Life, want to see Rain vs Taeja rematch! Either way, I'm POSITIVE Rain is the Code S champion. I'd put money on it right now.

Never put money on PvP. He has to get past Hero first.
If Rain hadn't beat Parting 3-1 the other day in OSL, I would bet Taeja because Hero would beat Rain. But I think Rains PvP isn't as bad as the stats say because I think it's only bad from when Kespa first transitioned over. Rain Taeja finals, rain takes it all.

Never saw Rain's games and ZvP should be a zerg's match to lose so I would expect Symbol to make it.
Gah. Feel like Taeja is gonna get knocked out before the finals and we'll be hearing about it.

Rain vs HerO looks like a nobrainer, while I was surprised and sad that HerO beat Squirtle, it's still his weakest matchup and if you've been watching Rain this season, well then it's not hard to predict this one. Rain 3-0 HerO
Mvp vs Symbol looks to be the most exciting series in Ro8. While I'll be cheering my heart out for Symbol, and while this series could go either way, my gut tells me Mvp will find a way once more, but it's gonna be close. On paper it sounds epic though. Mvp 3-2 Symbol
TaeJa vs Leenock is definitely a must-win for TaeJa if he aims to live up to the nigh-unbelievable hype he's been recieving lately. Leenock on the other hand has been looking terrifyingly strong since the GSTL finals (with a little slump for a two week period or somewhere along the way), so this is definitely two players with a lot to prove on the line. That being said, I still feel TaeJa is the greater force to be reckoned with, but I wouldn't count Leenock out on this one either. TaeJa 3-1 Leenock
Life vs MarineKing... well this is not gonna end well for the latter, I'll tell ya that lol. Life is one of the coolest players in SC2 and has always been so, yet this season he's not just a royal roader, he's also looking insanely strong, and if you saw anything from his ZvT the last round, betting against Life on this one seems nothing but foolish. Sure, MarineKing was able to upset Curious with some classic cheese but against someone as wonky as Life I'm more sceptical that'll be too effective. Regardless, I don't see much hope for MarineKing here. Life 3-0 MarineKing
Ro4:
Rain vs Mvp should be a classic for sure, given how Mvp seems to be performing against the top tosses in GSL when it really matters lately, along with the fact that Rain has been crushing some serious face in his PvT (including dominating TaeJa) this should be a sickass series. That being said, Rain's performance earlier this season and the OSL makes it hard for me to bet against him, and I doubt even "Lord" Mvp can change that fact this time around. Rain 3-1 Mvp
TaeJa vs Life is gonna be just as amazing, I mean just look at that lineup. Again, this series is somewhat of a coinflip, and I can foresee many different outcomes. However, TaeJa isn't looking quite as unbeatable as he did turing IPL:TAC, rather just a top player compared to an unbeatable one. Life on the other hand has been rising faster than Artosis' adrenaline levels during NesTea's spine crawler rush, and I it's hard for me to see much stopping him right now. Then again it's TaeJa, so if anyone's going to do it, it ought to be him. In the end, I forsee Life to come out on top, but it's sure as hell not going to be an easy victory for him for once. Life 3-2 TaeJa
Finals:
Rain vs Life then... a battle of two royal roaders in the finals, meaning one of them is guaranteed to succeed with what no man has done before. Sounds a little too good to be true, but I can only hope. Fortunately, that specific matchup looks somewhat likely for the finals. As far as who's going to triumph, it's somewhat paradoxal as I can't really see either of them losing. However, my gut tells me this will be somewhat like the TSL4 Finals, and that Rain will somehow just make it happen in the end. Also, you know how it's like with StarTale players and tournament finals (god fucking dammit Squirtle ;_;), so I have a feeling this will be where Life finally crumbles. Also, he's such a young player, whereas Rain, despite being a royal roader himself, has tons of experience from Brood War, and will go into this finals with the mental advantage, and for me, that will eventually be what decides the outcome of this finals, but for once, I'll actually be okay with it, as it'll the fourth GSL finals ever where a player I like will actually win, because it'll be the very first one where I actually like both players participating in it. All-in-all, this season has been amazing, and it's not looking like it'll get any worse, but I think the trophy will end up in the hands of an SKT1 player, and for the first time ever... I'm totally okay with that. Rain 4-2 Life
Never really called myself a fan, but I always end up secretly rooting for Leenock. I think he has a pretty good chance here. Otherwise I would have to give it to Rain, he seems extremely solid.
If I could only get my epic HerO vs Taeja finals I'm happy Although in the top half of the bracket as much as people glorify MVP this season and I'm not saying he can't do it (we doubted him last time) he himself has said that he is not up to par with the level of skill. At least that's what he said in his ro of 32 interview. I feel as if that the likely person to get to the finals will be the winner of Rain v HerO. Both of them have displayed incredible pvt and I feel are stronger in the match-up than MVP. Also in the situation that Symbol advances, again I feel that either of those two are favored. As for the other half of the bracket that one is hard to call. I'll take the safe bet and say Taeja but with the way Life's playing that could be difficult. Also I wouldn't count out Leenock in their ro 8 match. Oh yeah and MKP's well MKP... ^^

PvZ is where Rain first became famous in his phenomenal performance in WCS Korea. He took down some amazing zerg players such as Leenock 2-0, Jaedong 2-0 & Curious 2-1. I'll link the videos below if you want to see him, although since then, he has improved so much as this was when KeSPA first transitioned over, and back then he didn't have Boxer coaching SKT1. In the GSL, Rain showed his strength in PvT beating strong terrans such as Byun 2-0, Taeja 2-0 & Polt 2-1. His only seeming weakness was PvP, however he recently beat Parting 3-1 in the OSL RO8. Here are his WCS KR videos, but again, not a show of his true strength since this was awhile ago...
Wow, so few people voting for MKP. That's cool, if he wins the championship and I got the other predictions right, I could get rank 1 liquidbet :D.
Interestingly, every player I wan to win is the player I think will win (at least has the most chances, because honestly every one of these 8 guys could win the whole thing, they are all monsters in their own way). Hoping for a MKP vs Rain final!
hoping for hero-taeja finals, expect a hero-life finals which life will win... life's played all 3 races this GSL and is 2-0 against Z and T and 4-1 against two good PvZ-players in Seed&JYP, so he's prolly gonna own everyone with his chaotic style also dont see how people think leenock's going to get to the finals, im assuming life will beat MKP and life's beyond-nestea-tier in ZvZ so unless leenock becomes god he would lose there
On September 30 2012 18:09 HououinKyouma wrote: I'm scared By.Rain will be a meanie and defeat HerO, hope Rain gets really cocky/arrogant and doesn't practice so hero can win ^^
"KesPA player" and "doesn't practice" is not going to happen.
Expect: Rain vs Taeja rematch, or MVP vs Taeja; Rain's a beast but it's just so hard to bet against MVP in the GSL, the guy pulls wins out of a hat. Especially if Hero manages to knock out Rain (which I'm hoping for), I think MVP's chances of going to the finals are pretty high (though I don't know much about Symbol, I hear he's sick good).
Want and Expect: Taeja to win it all, he's been on such a tear lately and looks unstoppable. TL Fighting!
I feel there are so many good players, upsets could happen at any time if the stars align. I can only say who probably WONT win it, but just cause an upset here and there, and not actually win the whole thing.
Rain vs Hero I'm not an expert on PvP but I think most people were expecting Parting to beat Rain. I imagine a lot of people were also expecting Taeja to beat Rain and that didn't happen either. The games I've seen from Rain seem on another level to other Protoss players right now. It would be a mistake to underestimate his chances of winning this whole GSL - let alone beating Hero in PvP.
Mvp vs Symbol Despite being the most accomplished terran in SC2, i've been surprised by every win that Mvp has earned this season of GSL. It's not a matter of skill, or intelligence or preparation - it's a matter of condition. 'Surely he can't win *again* with the state of health he's currently in?'. Yet, in the Ro32 Mvp proved me wrong beating MMA twice. Then, in the Ro16, I'd be proven wrong again as he beat MKP 2:0 and JYP 2:1 to emerge first in the group. There were no gimmicks or great instances of luck. Mvp earned his place in the Ro8.
Symbol is a dangerous zerg and my head says it's his series to lose. Beating Mvp completes a run of stomping Code S IM terrans. On the other hand, I can't help thinking Mvp is going to surprise me again.
Taeja vs Leenock This is probably the easiest pick for me. Leenock is a great player but Taeja's play - particularly his TvZ - makes even the best zergs in the world look weak. He has an 80%(!) win ratio against Korean zergs in 2012. 3-1 in Taeja's favour.
Life vs MarineKing Then the hardest prediction for me. Most of my experience with these two players tells me they are 'unconventional'. In other words, they play unusual, off-the-wall unique styles. MKP has settled into more standard play recently but still possesses an aura of unpredictability. 11/11 (scvs or not), mech, Taeja levels of macro greed; MKP does it all. Importantly, though, MKP has demonstrated legitimate, high levels of play despite the occasional gimmicks. Yet Life is on a real hot streak with all the momentum in the world after a second place finish in TSL and this incredible run through the entire GSL. This is tough one to call but i'm predicting 3-2 in favour of Life.
First time I've ever written down prediction like this...it's pretty hard, (though the fact that all these players are so good might have something to do with it).
Rain's PvP is simply beastly, HerO will have to play in the best condition he'll ever have to beat Rain. Mvp vs. Symbol will be an interesting match, since both these players are sick good. Mvp will win if he can play mech because Symbol simply tears Marine-tank in neat slices. TaeJa vs. Leenock seems obvious, but remember that Leenock won MLG Summer Championship even though not many people predicted him to do so. Life vs. Marineking is simple, if MKP plays his best then he has a good chance. If he doesn't, he's out. Let's say Mvp wins versus Symbol, Rain vs. Mvp will not go well for Mvp considering Rain's playstyle versus Terran. I predict that Mvp's going to have to cheese in one game. Let's also say TaeJa vs. Life : They're both strong in the same district (extremely solid play) so it might go either way. It will probably go to the 5 game, so who's going to be affected by nerves first will fall out. I say Life will take it, TaeJa might cheese and Life is very good at defending that. The finals might very well be Rain vs. Life, which I want to see. Then we'll see who has the better practice schedule. TL;DR : Rain will take the title against Life, both of them proving what they're made of.
Rain is a surprisingly common pick to win. He's a good player but I disagree that he is the favourite
Rain is playing Hero in the first round, which is sure to be a tough match after how good hero looked against squirtle. Rain is playing either Mvp or Symbol (more likely I think) next. Symbol has already beaten both Protoss finalists from last season (MC and Seed) so far, and has looked textbook. That is a tough match. Mvp would be tough for another reason - he won't let Rain play his comfortable macro style. Mvp is also the guy who simply knows how to win and if Mvp beats Symbol then Mvp will be in relative good match form, no matter what his interviews say. Rain is playing the best player out of Taeja, Leenock, Life and MKP. Rain has looked beatable in TvP (look at the Happy games) and Taeja and MKP rank amongst the best TvPers out there (even if Rain did beat Taeja). I don't see Rain walking over Life or Leenock either, as they also are excellent. Leenock has beaten Hero, Squirtle and PartinG this season and Life has beaten JYP and Seed.
I think Rain is a contender, but he is not the clear favourite IMO.
MVP vs Leenock for the final. With the winner being impossible to predict. Kinda sad no protoss, but I don't see any of these two protosses making it to the final.
Rain - Hero: meh PvPcannot be predicted. Rain did whop Parting lately, but overall not enough has been seen. Beating HerO would secure him a spot in the upper echelon of PvP. But I really have no idea who takes this one.
MVP - Symbol: Never count Mvp out, but this should be Symbol's to grab. I don't know who to cheer for, because Symbol is interestung amd Mvp's path to his fifth win equally interesting. Leaning towards Symbol for the better semifinal (I don't see Mvp standing a chance against Rain if he advances.
Leenock - Taeja Leenock chosen for his high cuddly-ness factor and because he displays 1% more personality in his interviews compared to the other 7 ro8 players
Life - MKP: I don't care much about this one. The only interesting story is if Life can continue his great form. I however think MKP wins it if he brings stable play Atleat I have not seen Life's play versus the best terran and I'm still not truly convinced that he is an upper tier zerg.
For the championship I hope for Leenock the most followed by Symbol and Mvp.
I'd love to see Life or Symbol do something fun this season! I love Life, he's the ZvZ MASTER. Symbol, I still remember from the Iron Squid tournament. Insane. Would love him to pull something out of his hat!
Heart: HerO vs Rain Mvp vs Symbol Life vs MarineKing TaeJa vs Leenoc
HerO vs Mvp TaeJa vs Life
HerO vs TaeJa (HerO needs to win something too)
Brain is completely undecided, I am unable to predict any of these matches, they are all so insanely good. Although a TaeJa vs Rain final would be probably the most likely. Sadly I cannot acces to document anymore, no vote for me.
I've followed GSL from the first season and can honestly say this is the most exciting ro8 I've laid witness to. If the games just marginally resembles the players' caliber, we're in for some superduper starcraft!
Personally I'm rooting for Symbol, loving his over the top macro plays. He has some kind of aura around him that gives him that 'champion' feel, maybe I'm the only one with this kind of view haha!
This is really hard, though with people in the current forms they are now, I guess the winner of the Taeja - Life Bo4 Will win the tourney. unless Rain continues to stomp everyone from out of nowhere and takes the whole GSL Im not familiar with BW so Rain for me is totally unknown, untill i saw him dominate in his last group 2-0, 2-0 iirc.
Oh man i wanna see MKP vs Life match so bad that will be AWESOME games!!!!!!!! My heart says Life or Taeja, but im afraid rain will go kick ballz
Heart and brain both say hero vs taeja. As for who wins it? I love them both, but I really want to see the smile on hero's face after winning the toughest sc2 tournament in the world. Imagine his reaction after winning dreamhack, but 10x more. Hero/Taeja/Liquid fighting!

Seeing how Rain basically stripped TaeJa in the groupstages I wouldn't be too confident about it.
Overall I see quite a few interesting final scenarios.
Rain vs. MKP / Life / TaeJa / Leenock: A Kespa player reaching the final stage of GSL in the first season!
MKP vs. MVP: A classic match for MKP to lose ;-).
Leenock vs. MVP: They had great games previously.
HerO vs. TaeJa: TeamLiquid on top of the world (I don't hope this, we have too many TL hipsters as it is ).
Symbol vs. MKP / Life / TaeJa / Leenock: Symbol fighting for the championship he was made out to take last season falling to Seed.
Probably more potential story lines or interesting matchups out there. All in all this season promises interesting games and therefore we should expect the worst GSL final of 2012 (thats how it usually works with GSL ..).

Want MVP to win obviously but I'm not sure anyone can beat rain. I would really hate to see a kespa player win gsl in the first season, when there is only 2 to begin with.

I must honestly ask why people keep saying this. Yes, it'd be a Liquid' finals, but TaeJa and HerO have a tendency of running into eachother in just about every foreign tournament they both decide to participate in and it very rarely lives up to the hype, what makes you think this one will?
Both my heart and my head say MVP. Honestly there isn't another player even close to MVP's level. If MVP is feeling good none of these 7 can stop him. If he is in particular pain maybe Rain or Leenock can beat him.
So lets pray that he is in good shape over the coming weeks.

The cool thing about SC2 is that there is no guaranteed better pro that cannot lose 100% of the time. So, regardless of whether or not he's in top form, anything can happen :D
Besides, six of the seven he could play are definitely threats if they face him (sorry MKP but you're a free pass to mvp D: ), so I don't know if you can say with certainty that one player is going to stomp like that.
Unless a player is on a tear. Then they're a wrecking ball. + Show Spoiler +

Well TaeJa showed he can beat him. I feel all these 8 players are on an equal level with TaeJa, Mvp and Rain(althoug I don't quite understand why everyone is hyping him up this much, surely he crushed his Ro16 group but at the Ro32 he was vulnerable) maybe standing a bit out, Life is worth a mention too, he hasn't dropped a set yet. But the other 5 are easily able to win this as well.

Although yes, HerO is known for his shaky pvp. He has expressed much confidence in the match-up as of recently and actually feels "lost" in pvz. He has also displayed this growth by defeating Squirtle twice since their round of 4 encounter and on the first time in the mlg open online qualifiers he had to beat a string of something like 7 pvp's. So I would definitely not count HerO out.
Hero to PvP is JYP to PvT. I mean he can win a pvp i just dont see it happening. I can see MVP taking his 5th if his wrist are not hurting him to much. I mean MVP is just a monster if they dont hold him back. Would love to see MVP vs Leenock finals, i enjoy a good PvZ.
Man I just realized I'm so antizerg-biased even tho TvZ is my fav MU to watch... I really hope MKP will do it one time ;( , even tho my brain is saying no Taeja to strong atm.
Rain > HerO Mvp > Symbol Taeja > Leenock Life > MKP
This is what my head says but I do not know that much about HerO's PvP or PvP neither. Mvp should outplay Symbol but the zerg player really impressed me with his win over Seed. I guess there is a lot of potential in him and he showed us that he is capable of beating top players. Additional to that Mvp seems to have some problems with his health as I know (not sure bout that). Taeja is in really good shape and I haven't seen Leenock play that much ZvT in the last months although his matches against TheStC at MLG were really nice. On the other hand Taeja was in Ro8 2 times before and did not make it through so I think this will be the closest one. Life is on the royal road now and he played very outstanding games in many cases and it seems that he has such a variety of builds that he is the most unpredictable player out now in the GSL. Combined with MKP who has not really impressed me the last time Life is here my clear favorite.
But I think every player in this Ro8 is strong enough to go to the finals.
Hero has been really hard on himself recently (even though he's in the ro8) so I really hope he wins. TL final if I cross my fingers but I feel Taeja vs. MVP, or MVP vs MKP. Taeja should win it all if he gets to the finals I feel.

So lets pray that he is in good shape over the coming weeks.
Its one thing to beat MVP in a bo3 when nothing is on the line. Its something else to play a bo5 against the God of Sc2 in the elimination stages. Taeja is just not at a comparable level. Rain could be but we don't know it yet. Leenock could do it but not if MVP is healthy.

Rain also says he has been performing better in tournaments than practice, and he's a bit unsure as to how he keeps winning. I'm sure it'll catch up on him soon enough.

Taeja picks build orders just like Mvp, I would like to see who would come out in a bo5 if Mvp is in best health, Taeja would win hands down right now though.

(referring to"Rain being the first Kespa GSL champion would be so awesome..") For me it's the opposite I do not want him to win at all costs even him making the finals would make me sad, I never watched BW so I want GSL players to destroy kespa players. I do think HerO has a good shot vs Rain #1 because it's pvp #2 hero's pvp has become one of his strongest match ups(all his match up's are strong now) before his micro was made him win pvp but he never had execution now he has the execution to go along with it, overall a pretty even match.
Thanks Fionn, will be cool the see the results of the poll.
