Hi, TL people !
I just read a news on Millenium website which says that a french channel (Gong TV) will offer GSL to his viewers.
Honestly, I've never heard about this channel before that so I can't tell you more about their history/programs/etc but on their website we can see that they broadcast a lot of asian programs (mangas/series).
In a recent video where they introduce their new programs for 2012/2013, we can see the GSL among them (with the mention "unprecented in Europe")
+ Show Spoiler +
In another (short) one they present the GSL as a new program to come.
+ Show Spoiler +
Now, I don't know how the GSL will be broadcasted. Live ? Summary ? Entirety ?
Anyway, it's a really surprising but great news. I'm curious what they'll do with that.
I don't think it will be live, but re-broadcasted like one day later, because we don't have ''official'' GSL commentators yet. But i give you that its an awesome news.
I've heard SC2 is pretty popular in France, so that's very good news, cousins!
Great news ! Another step in the right direction
Haha, Gong TV and GOMTV doing work!
Wow, Stephano goes off to Korea again and bam! France wants to watch.
damnnnnnnnn frenchies so lucky!

awesome news and i m fucking jealous :D
I hope it will be live streaming, A summary would be great but pretty desapointing.
New digital tv channels popping up everywhere, I kind of hoped there would be channels to pick up e-sportie events. Its great to see the GSL is getting some of that action.
For french guys who ask how watch Gong TV, they have a page where they explain it : http://www.gong.fr/ou_retrouver_tv.php
It's a free cable TV channel apparently (like SyFy, 13e rue, RTL9, Paris Première).
it's still not sure, have to wait until 31 october to know
well if Stephano's tweet of his ticket to Seoul doesn't confirm him in GSL, I guess this does.

Well, as I understand, this needs to be voted on by people. And there's very few information on what they'll broadcast.
never heard of this channel too lol

Same here. :/
hope it goes fucking well for france and then some spanish TV hops on bringing the gsl here :D
Hope it will be Korean casters as they are the best!! You have to pay a contract, something like 5 euros a month, to get this channel, if it is live, with Korean casters, in high res, i will apply for sure!
Never heard of this channel, but I have it in my VLC list of TV channels, hell yeah <3
just wondering...i watched korean cast for gsl semis and they showed player's build winrate (like mvp FE win rate 2:0, etc.) on map, race vs race %, win rate based on time ie: mvp 1-9minute 68%, 9-14minute 70%, etc., they even showed their hands for apm in the lower portion of unit description area in small pip.
they do that for english stream too? i havnt watched gsl in awhile and last time i watched was korean version so just wondering if they've upped the production value for english steam too.

Yeah, the screen you see is the same on both streams.

I don't have this channel but this is great news, I'll see if I can get to watch it somehow

Actually only the overlays are the same- each stream has its own observer.

...not the overlays either. english stream uses english client, korean stream uses korean client so there must be two observers. also all the korean overlays are in korean such as race stats or build names, when it showed build order win/loss, their past build orders in the map, their win% depending on gametime, etc. (in-game, in the unit detail area), the details are written in korean. but i dont think they're translated directly to the english stream.
i'll watch the semis again with both streams running side by side because i was surprised by the production quality watching korean stream which i never noticed while watching english stream.
Hm, the second, shorter video displays "Las Vegas" at first. Maybe they'll only (re)broadcast the GSL finals at IPL5?
Stephano must have accepted a seed for next season then.
*wink*
I never thought I'd be jealous of France for something...
Never heard of this channel too, it's a TV channel where a good modem and FAI is needed.
Woah, pretty jelly~
Let us know how it turns out.
Haha nobody's ever heard of this channel, what the hell is this...
lol. Gong TV. So close to GOMTV
does gong mean anything in french?
dont tell me it means bear o.O
Never ever heard of this channel before.
Interesting, though

Well, a "gong" is the bell thingy on the monk .. thingy. Like.. this thing
But it's not really related..

And gong is the same in French as it is in English.
SC2 is popular in France, so no surprises.
Gong TV looks like such an awesome channel. Seriously, wish I lived in France (for more reasons than just Gong TV) Oh, and hoping Canada follows suit and gets professional SC2 on their cable.

It's not free. :s

2€.49 per month if u have freebox, gsl + manga, it's totally worth it
if u have numericable, it's a free channel
I am a numericable client but without TV. I need to find a way to install a setup to transfer the video on my laptop if this thing happens. ^^
Also there is a contest so if everyone could vote for MOAR SC2, that would be great !
The french casters are going to break the awesomeness called GSL.
Perhaps it'll be sub'ed xD I hope.
I'd only watch this if it were broadcasted in English with French subtitles or something.

Same here, I would be SO disappointed if it turns out to be in french..
If you are French it's your obligation to watch this and also spread the word!
This should go under community news to promote the channel.

What's wrong with your own language? English GOM commentary isn't that good anyway.

It's not about our language, it's about the level of our casters...
Do we have this with SFR?

I'm french canadian and to be honest I find some french casting quite good. I don't remember which caster in particular but some of them were quite knowledgeable, also they knew when to raise their voice to hype the match which remind me alot of korean casters. Also alot of english commentators are overrated, the only one I truly enjoy are artosis and apollo.
I'd gladly take french casters over most english commentators these days.

The higher part of the French gamer community hate quite a lot on french content actually. It's usually subpar quality in comparaison to anything in English so it doesn't help either

don't take your supposition as a general truth, some like, some don't like

I love my language, but not for gaming. Gaming vocabulary in French just doesn't sound right in my ears. It itches or something I just don't like it. I believe Pomf and Thud are actually pretty good casters but I just dislike listening to it because I find words like "hydralisk, zergling, protoss" etc just ugly in French.
Perhaps that's because I've only ever spoken in English whenever I do anything related to gaming but still. :p
Besides Tastosis are twice as good as any other caster combo out there.

I think you guys should work on creating your own terms, etc etc. If it catches on it can be succesful.

eSports is really sweeping over europe these years. Damn i wish this comes to my country too

Four months later, it's time ! Every monday from February 18th at 21:45 CET, 40 of the best series of GSL 2012 will be broadcasted on GONG TV (cable/ADSL channel about asian culture). So it's absolutely not live stream but afaik, if the audience is good, they might buy the live broadcasting TV rights later. The matches will be casted by Llewellys, Millenium's manager, and Luc, "confirmed beginner" from GONG.

lucky french people !!! ( je crois que je vais aller habiter en France juste pour cela)
Why we cant have that in Canada!?
Nice
I don't know if we can consider it lucky since there's like what ? 99% of the french ppl that never heard about that TV channel. and even the other 1% that know it, i'm pretty sure at least half of them don't know how to go there or their cable TV doesn't work like they're supposed to.
Nice initiative though, but I fear it won't last long. At all... :/
Hope I'm wrong though.
Yeah, I doubt it'll work as well, I don't know this channel at all neither. It's a nice initiative to focus people who don't even know the game though and I hope they'll manage to make something attractive.
Never heard of Gong before, but that's kinda cool :D
yep, unknown channel in france broadcasting old games.. It's a good idea but i strongly doubt it can work. People who will want to watch this will want to watch gsl live broadcast, not stuff they saw one year ago.

The show is not intended for SC2 fans but for people who like video games in general and who will discover SC2 by this way. Obviously the hardcore SC2 fans are not the main target.

Haha ! Don't worry though, it's not as if knowing French was kind of necessary nowadays (well, unless you're actually involved in translation work or something like that...) while English is a bit more useful ^_^
