I have always been someone who cares about others so much, but unfortunately that's how I was raised, that's who I am and who I have been for my entire life.. Some people say "Nice guys finish last", which can be true, but there comes a time where showing kindness and affection towards someone or something can in return help them succeed.
I made this video to try to give a little bit more support for what Liquid'Ret is doing.. Some people are already going to think this is a stupid video, why should we care, etc.. but that's how a percentage of the internet is like.. (unfortunately..)
Anyway, let's do anything we can to keep him motivated and have him quit smoking for the rest of his life.. watch his stream, follow him on twitter, tweet at him, whatever it maybe.. when someone feels like they have a backing and has a fan base that truly cares about him makes things a little bit easier..
This is nice and all, but you're being a bit dramatic. My friend who was nearby thought ret had died of lung cancer and this was a public service announcement not to smoke.

How do you possibly misinterpret this thread as ret having died?

Smoking is not good for your health, that's a given. It affecting someones play on the other hand is nothing but pure nonsense. What could you possibly be basing that assumption off of?
I think if Ret manages to quit it would help him with his gameplay. Not to say he's bad or anything, but he might get better results in the future. Ret fighting!
If Ret smoke because its an habbit, sure he can quit. If he smoke because its how he relieve stress, dont think it could be possible as long as he is active in the esports.
If you really want Ret to quit smoking, make him knockup his gf / wife :p

When you're in the middle of a long series and suddenly have the urge to smoke, that's a problem.

The fact that your friend did is weird. The title of the thread is Ret you will quit smoking lol
Ret, you should try electronic cigarettes! They helped me go from smoking 3 packs of Newport 100s per day to NO cigarettes since May 2012! They are amazing especially if you are having trouble quitting smoking!!
I will quit too. Was thinking about it for 2 weeks anyway and tonight pice of shit governmen owned me and wants 15 Euros because I smoked a cig on an open air trainstation with nobody next to me in 30 meter radius. Protect non smoker.... my ass 15 euro...fuck you...I quit smoking and you lose thousnads upon thousands of tax money muahaha

I think he said he had urges to smoke in the middle of games. WHich would affect your ability to play sc2 when your not a 100% focused on the game.
Ret here is a tip. Try being perfectly still for an hour. Doesnt matter if you fail just keep trying and when you made it you wont want to smoke anymore and make sure not to do anything amusing in the mean time hihihhihihihihi
well good luck to him, although i fail to see how smoking could affect his play. i'm also passionate smoker (around 2 packs a day) and if i'm concentrated enough on something that i'm doing i won't even feel the need to smoke, but, not everyone is the same so i wish the best to him :D

Wow, how did you manage to smoke 3 packs of 100's every day?

Well if you are like really addicted to smoking it will affect you when you want to smoke really badly during a series. But if you are somewhat will strong and can keep your smoking at a low level it shouldn't affect much at all besides calming your nerves. I smoke like a pack per week (and have been since i started like 2-3 years ago) and I never felt the urge to smoke while playing.
sorry but i think you have a wrong picture of yourself. If you would care for others so much you would not spend most of your post talk about yourself. Also you picked a famous character. If you would care for others so much you would just do something to help others, famous or not. And you would not make a post about how you help someone who is famous because you are so selfless.
I'm sorry, why should I be motivating someone I don't know personally when my mother just died of lungcancer and my brother smokes 2 packs a day? I prefer to have him stop - but it's not like everyone is 'priviliged' enough to have a fanbase support them out of their habits.
People who decide to ruin their life should figure their own way out of it. This cheerful shit about celebreties needing support to help them stop makes me sick. Go help yourself - if you are dependent on something thats in your own head.
On the other hand its nice to see people care about the health of others, even if those people have nothing to do with you personally. This post tears me to two opposite feelings.

This is such a poisonous attitude. If people help others and want to mention it let them be. It's a whole lot better than people not helping others.
gogo ret, we all support you no matter if you do or not smoke, or you have maby some extra kilo's we love you now becouse you are you, and that is gonna stay that way for a verry long time my brother
P.S. The idea that he made a thread on this making it an official type thing is honestly really just a ploy for the ego. If he was going to quit, it would not matter at all to anyone but himself and it wouldn't be something so grandiose and "exciting"
the fact this was "announced" publicly before it even started to take hold longer than a day or two just makes it seem it's done with the wrong intentions.. like trying to please someone else other than one's self.
I could be wrong, but I've been there. Just makes you look like a dumbass when you start smoking 3 days later.
The guilt of people seeing you smoke after you announced you were quitting doesn't out weigh the addiction to want to smoke another cigarette in many cases.

and besides, what does it matter if somebody helpes a famous person??? they shoudn't be helped becouse they are famous is one of the most dumbest things ever. ofcourse he is not the only one. but it might help others indirectly.
alot of these kinds of things are based on love for other people. maby your dad or a friend would try the same thing, and you make this kind of video, becouse they are special to you. i don't see any reason why that shouldn't be ret if hes special for him.

I never said he shouldn't do this. But I just hate "liars" (though he may have tricked him self into thinking that he actually does this to help other people rather than helping him self), and for me this is a matter of principle.

Depending on how broadly you look at things, you can say that everyone does everything they do for themselves. Charity work? You only do it because it makes you feel good. If it made you feel bad you wouldn't do it. Feeding homeless? Makes you feel powerful and/or benevolent. Teaching others? Makes you feel smarter.
While some actions might not be genuine or be two faced in their intentions, the action itself should be weighed on how much good it does. This person is doing something that can truly help someone else, their personal reasons for doing so do not make it any less of a positive action.

I agree with the beginning, and there is nothing wrong about helping others for your own sake. I just dislike people bragging/lying about their motivations. As I said, this is a matter of principle for me.

Yeah, of course there is a risk. But the guilt of people (1000's of people) seeing you smoke after you announced you were quitting sure makes it way way way fucking harder to not try your absolute fucking best to quit.

On paper yes. But in real in 99% of the cases this people dont help anyone. If you listen to the video you hear clearly that he talks about himself not ret. He use rets problem to get attention to his own problems (not enough attention). This is not helpful for anyone involved. Not even for him because TL attention is not real attention. This kind of help bind resources that could used to really help someone.

Thanks for the nice video, promise <3
Also the whole approach is wrong. From this thread and from rets side. Public announcement to build up pressure form outside, is not a good method to change something in your own life. Because its not the outside pressure and or support that will let you change it in the end. It is one of the things in life everyone have to do by himself.
Ontopic: electric smoke owns: i suggest a changeable batteries carrier with an DCT (Dual Core Tankomizer) (warm hard smoke) and a high nicotine concentration ( easy to go down ) in the beginning, not one of the "starter kids". Also dont buy cigarette taste liquid. They taste like shit. If you want to run "cold" i wish you good luck but remember this just in case.

i haven't smoked in 3 years this february. i had a lot of trouble until i actually decided that i didn't like smoking anymore. even then i had to chew the gum while smoking non-tabacco to trick myself for a couple months. as soon as you get past the reward system part, it gets way easier.
Wait, is that a shit lot of money with Ret on the first picture ?
Anyway, as the guy above me said, the reward system is very fucking tricky, I realised it not so long ago, and when you think about it, knowing that it's bad to smoke and stuff, you're like "shit, that's freakin' stupid", so all I can say is :
wow promise man is everything okay? you seem really down on yourself..
Yeah Ret I cant believe your doing it cold turkey! they say 4 days is all it takes to get over the chemical addiction so its all in your head now! but wow i do not envy how you must have felt this week.

In my opinion, both of you are absolutely right. I can really empathize with your desire to call the OP out, but ask yourself: what purpose am I serving by doing so? If the thread helps Ret, even if it was written for the wrong reasons, that's a net good.

About this thread: God it's cheesy. Please put less effort into self-promotion when helping out people. Also cut down on the passive aggressiveness towards people who don't care about Ret smoking or quitting smoking*. If people on the internet (or anywhere) were to care about every single video and cause we'd do nothing else. Also some people look at the big picture and want "everybody" to give up smoking why this thread focusing on Ret (and Promise) is insignificant.

I liked the video. I think it's nice of the OP and I support Ret as well. I can't believe there is negativity in this thread. It must have been really hard for people to come up with something negative to bash the OP or bash Ret about. It's best if people try to stay positive and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
