Fnatic.Rain: Hi guys this is Fnatic Rain and I'm really sad to announce my retirement. I was considering about retirement about 3months ago but now I think it's a proper time to retire because I feel I can't make good game and result anymore. I'm really thankful to Fnatic for such a good opportunity and provide me a good environment. I had really good experience abroad and made many friends, competing in lot of tournaments. If I didn't work with Fnatic, I think I wouldn't have been able to have such good opportunities.

I remember two series of his: MLG: Against Boxer - great games. NASL against SaSe(I think) - he played poorly and was not interested in playing TvP, so he cheesed all games with proxyraxes and bunkerrush. Really poor showing.

I agree, people kept thinking starcraft was going to keep growing and growing but in the past year it has certainly shrunk. It reached decent popularity about a year or so back but since then things have started to slide quite a bit. Not that their isnt money to be made or viewers to be had, there still is obviously. Just look at this weekends MLG as an indicator, playoff sunday the seats where mostly full but there where still some empty seats, and their wasnt people standing up watching all the way to the very back like some of the MLG's in the past. Not to mention this MLG had even more of a draw then most with the kespa players participating. E-sports is a very fickle industry, because although their are obviously viewers that watch it that dont play the game, the audience is largely dictated by the popularity of the game, and most casual players wont stick around to play the same game for years on end. And those viewers that dont play probably got introduced to it through some friends who do play. SC2 has obviously taken quite a big dip in players over the past year. Even me when i first stopped playing sc2 (i wouldnt play more than a match a month and i havent played a match in over 6 months now) over a year ago, i was still interested in watching the games for a good 6 months after i stopped playing, but as i moved on to other games etc. I started to watch less and less, to the point where I dont tune in anymore for hardly any tournaments except for maybe an MLG here or there and i think its been like that for alot of former players of the game / friends of former players who where viewers. Lets hope that Hots breathes some new life back into the game, i know ill certainly be playing.

It hasn't been that long since he's had good results (He was just in the semi finals of the OSL and placed third so he is seeded into the next one). If he didn't get any results for 6+ months then maybe he would consider it, but otherwise I doubt he's even considering retiring right now.

However a lot of pro's leaving the scene is not good for the future of SC2. You're talking about his play style in which the game at the time was all cheese. By the time he retired, he was a good macro player. Look at his recent games.

I always liked Rain for the way he evolved from being "cheesy" to a good all round player. Hope that the road you tread from here treats you well! Will always remember the Boxer game at MLG.
