The wait has been long since the line-up for Iron Squid II is known, but here are the groups. Remember that the groups will be played in the GSL format. The top two players of each group will advance in the final bracket.
The groups will be broadcasted twice a week, every Wednesday and Sunday. Games will be casted live from replays so that players can play in the best conditions.
The Groups
As the schedule of the players is quite busy, the groups will not necessarily be played in that order. The Group A will be aired on November 28th, don’t forget to tune in!

You mean 2 foreigners and "just" Mvp?
3 foreigners in the group is what I meant.
Mini is probably the weakest player in the entire competition. Mana, while he has beaten Stephano recently, is still a foreigner Protoss, which is Stephano's best matchup. Mvp is Mvp, but he's known for not doing so well in online tournaments.

Group B can swing from "one of top 5 player in the world would not make it" to "two monster roll over two also-runs" solely depending on if Seed is Jjakji clone or not

Poor jjakji. It's hard to look successful when you are unable to play anywhere but in GSL. T_T
With that lineup, if the entire Iron Squid were a live event it would be the best tournament in the world by far. Still excited tho even if its mostly online.

I think Jjaji is successful, but he is not exactly in the conversation of top 5-8 players in the world, which is the title that Seed is losing grip of rather fast.

I mean.. Stephano, the player who brings the most viewers to tournaments (in EU/NA) is in the only group with less than 1 korean. All other groups have 2, 3 or 4 koreans.
Hmmm.. :D
Edit : Still incredible to bring the top3 of each race in this tournament
Wow good group for MMA, providing he gets back into his top form Group B :O A and E also look sick, but killer games all-around, every group is stacked...Iron Squid II is taking things to a different level with this lineup
Group A: Hero, Alive, Golden, Symbol Group B: Seed, Life, Kas, Creator Group C: Taeja, Brown, Scarlett, MKP Group D: MC, J, Lucifron, Parting Group E: DRG, Ganzi, Sase, Leenock Group F: Goswser, MMA, Genius, Nerchio Group G: Mini, MVP, Stephano, Mana Group H: Nestea, Delphi, Violet, Thorzain
The groups were made with seeds based on both achievements and current form. Stephano being 4th on the all time money list and a multiple premier events winner, don't be surprised if he gets a better seed than several Koreans.

Yea, my first thought was that Stephano gets preferrential treatment, but then i realized that there is really no difference between a Stephano and a korean, so for all intents and purposes it's Mana who is the "foreigner" hope in that group, skill wise.

Due of the little issue with Stephano the last edition, I can tell you that he did not get any "treatment", we did our Group fair & square with everyone, and Stephano got this group due of his results in the past months.

I'm still a little confused. So you're saying that Stephano didn't get a really good group because of luck or preferred treatment. He got it because he has done very well in the past few months? Life has done pretty good in the past few months and he's in a group with seed and creator. Maybe I'm just confused and Stephano did get lucky?
On November 15 2012 10:45 ragz_gt wrote: He is taking a shot at Stephano's no show from Iron Squid, as there is no reason for them to do him any favor.
Oh I don't believe there was any preferred treatment. It's just odd to say that stephano got a good group because of recent results and then stick everyone else with good recent results into groups from hell. I think stephano just got lucky the seeding system they used gave him a nice group. Nothing wrong with that. I just wanted clarification.
imo what tournaments which dont have a proper seeding structure need to do, is record and make a hype video of the seeds being chosen and how. Even if we end up watching a guy pull names out of a hat (literally) for 10 minutes, I think this would avoid a lot of confusion and/or rumors of player favoritism.
Really I could care less about group been fair or not. The result is important, not the method. MLG keep doing their "seeding" and "point" system and keep ending up with most messed up groups ever. What's the point of a fair and balanced system if anyone can make better groups within 5 minutes?
These groups are good, so who cares about how we arrived at them.

It should work for them then. Since my end result is fair group, if they can't be achieved without fair process, it would guarantee that process was fair. I'm not against fair process, I just don't care :p
What I am against are elaborated 3 step point systems that ends up with groups that make no sense *cough cough MLG*
lol Group G voted in 3rd for group of death? Seed, Life, and Creator are all better than every player in Group G (except maybe MVP but I think he has been relaxing a bit more after doing well last GSL like he always does, he'll still be back on top eventually).

Problem is that there will always be problem with seeds. Different people have different opinions regarding how far tournaments results are relevant. I mean you had a lot of people complaining about the IPL WC Korean team which was based on GSL points.
If you ask 100 people to seed these players, you will get 100 different results. And since all players have their ups and downs, it is always possible to argue both sides. Are results from 6 months relevant? 3 months? Or only current month?

Any confirmation that they will get the same band, In Uchronia, to do the players' music?
Iron Squid can easily be considered the tournament with the most personality and branding potential. I just wish they took steps to execute this. Take the soundtrack they commissioned for the first tournament, why the fuck can I not buy the soundtrack? All I have are shitty youtube rips, I'm willing to drop $10 on an album that they already produced. But I can't find a single thing, not even on the band's site.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who wants to buy that music.
Wow these groups are stacked, can't wait to play in this! Also it looks like I might be able to play my group when everyone in it is on the same continent, so latency shouldn't play in at all
The people talking about stephano's seed is rediculous, if your going to look at seedings atleast look at the obvious ones, life seed and creator, atleast one of them should have been in group f! just sayin~ Oh and why are u complaing about groups in the first place, just wait until top two advance in each group, thats going to be the real group of death~

Invited players get better seeds than the qualified players, that is that simple.

It would be very nice to see Lucifron and Sase get out of their groups, feels like they have a chance. Especially, go Sase(!) of course ^^
Many ex-slayers players are participating, nice. That makes me wish, again, that Apex hadn't risen their cocktail of false alarms with all the ogs-players coming back to the scene.
Exciting to see Brown come back. I remember when he and Parting got into Code A at the same time and they both used heavy lategame styles vs Z. After that he just dissolved.

Not sure why Group A is so underrated it is the only one with all 4 Koreans.
Group of Death = A
Group A = HerO + Symbol
Group B = Life + Creator
These always seem to face each other. Its poetic.
Group C = MKP OR Taeja if healthy + Scarlett
I can actually see Scarlett making it in Group C. Taeja has wrist issues and went 0-2 in GSL. Brown, I don't know very well. MKP is not the MKP of 1 year ago although extremely good also Terran is weak to Zerg right now. Scarlett may know French for extra intangibles points being Canadian.
Group D = Lucifron + Parting
I think MC is getting older and Protoss is a bit meh and J I don't know so will go on a huge upset with Lucifron.
Group E = Ganzi + Leenock
Group F = MMA + Nerchio
Group G = MVP + Stephano (Or if MVP still injured and shit then ehh I'll say Mana)
Group H = Violet + Thorzain
I know Thorzain will let me down but I think the European Gods of Winter shall not let its King of the North down this time.

Life is from Qualifier, and he finished 2nd he got dropped in a Group randomly, and finished with Seed as 1st Round, only because of that. If we invited him that should be different.

I have no problem being patient, I just want the ability to give them money for an already made product. I don't want to purchase a CD on ebay (don't have an account) and go through customs when shipping (I don't live in the EU) paying an exorbitant price. If this isn't convenient for the customer, how the hell is the management/band making out?
When I search for In Uchronia on the first google page are three links to youtube, a link to a pirate bay torrent that has their songs from youtube in shitty quality, and several soundcloud like services links. No links to an actual band site. No links to actual pay sites.
There are dozens of sites out there that allow artists and organizations to sell digital downloads. Bandcamp looks like the best option since they take a smaller cut than Amazon or iTunes would, but alas my money continues to sit in my wallet. They need to capitalize on this situation.
Group A : aLive,Symbol (I really like Golden but this will be a difficult group, surprise us ;D ) Group B : Seed,Life (But Kas got all my support GOGOGO ! ) Group C : MKP,Scarlett (Brown seems to be a zerg sniper, too bad there is only one) Group D : MC,LucifroN (or will Luvsic create the surprise ? ) Group E : DRG,Leenock (I wanna say GanZi but those 2 zerg are good and Ganzi seems to have trouble against them ) Group F : MMA,Nerchio Group G : Mvp,Stephano (everything will be decided with MaNa vs Stephano i think ) Group H :viOLet,ThorZaIN (i'm not the #1 Fan of Thorzain but i think he can take out NesTea )

Can't really comment on GanZi but Scarlett is not overrated at all. If anything people are underrating her a bit (people are more into her hype and less into her skill). Her mechanic is top notch and decision making is solid. Though she is still somewhat prong to mental errors her style is a matchup nightmare.
She is the foreigner Rain fears the most in WCS, and Creator said his record against her in online cups is about 50/50 (but Creator was pretty humble so not sure how accurate) and she is second best foreigner behind Stephano. She'd be underdog against MKP but not many would be surprised if she wins.
I do agree that aLive has better chance than both of them though (slim for Scarlett and about none for GanZi)

Scarlett is amazing yeah but putting her ahead of Nerchio and Naniwa is going a bit too far imo. Both those 2 have proven themselves at several occassions. She is a top foreigner for sure though and I am really looking forward to see her perform at WCS.

I personally wouldn't put her ahead of Nerchio yet, can't really compare to Nani because their style is so different and Scarlett doesn't have that much work (I think Scarlett have better chance vs T and Nani have better chance vs P), that's just the opinion of Korean pros (which can be skewed but less affected by hype).

A: Alive and Symbol B: Life and Creator C: MKP and Taeja D: Impossible to pick. I'd say they all have an equal chance of getting out. E: Leenock and Sase F: Genius and Nerchio G: MVP and Stephano (most obvious group) H: Violet and Thorzain
How does the tournament continue after groups? A1 plays B2 same as GSL, or A plays H, or what?

You could say that for Nerchio too since there is MMA, Genius and a foreign zerg in his group and Kaoru is his manager. The thing it is good if we have some foreigners in the ro16, but both Nerchio and Stephano could be out in ro32 because this tournament is so stacked...

You forgot about stephano bro.
Seriously though, this is how to distribute groups in a tournament! I didn't watch Iron Squid 1, and I didn't care about Iron Squid II at all until I saw this post - the player list speaks for itself, there's no doubt this is going to be awesome. Only thing I wish could change is to see Polt up there instead of MMA. I don't like MMA, but I love Polt.
MMA is the reigning champion, would be sad without him!
Wasn't aware he was the reigning champ - like I said, I never caught Iron Squid I. I just don't like the guy as a player - never really loved him before the whole slayers debacle, certainly don't like him now. He should go play LoL imo, like puzzle did.
Polt on the other hand is a great personality. Tireless player, competes in a billion foreign events while going to school, speaks enough english to be interviewed in that language (see lone star clash 2) hasn't pulled a major win in a long time, but still never gives up. Seems like a cool dude who doesn't afraid of anything.

Polt got raped by GanZi at the qualifiers, and by rape i mean it,it was a real correction. He had his chance. Also you opinion on MMA is subjective, please keep it to yourself and don't make generalities, people who were assisting at the First edition (like me) have seen just how awesome this guy was,he kept the time after the event to sign autographs, talk to his fan, took photos and he had a very cool humor.
Group A : Hero, Symbol Group B : Life, Creator Group C : Scarlett, MarineKingPrime Group D : Parting, Lucifron Group E : Leenock, GanZi Group F : Absolutely no idea of who could end up first and second Group G : Stephano, MVP Group H : Violet, Nestea

The fact that someone lost means I can't wish that they had won? I don't understand.
And you can't tell me that I have to keep my opinion of a player to myself, but then go and give your own opinion. That's not how intelligent people communicate. You're certainly allowed to disagree with my not liking MMA, but that doesn't change anything. I made no "generalities" and I accused him of nothing offensive - I just don't like him, and I get to say that in my own posts on TL.

You sure sound rather attempting to persuade readers to believe that MMA is not a likeable player. And, if you studied philosophy you should know that, though whatever you typed lacked argumentative structures-- opaque conclusion and premises supporting that-- it has stronger tendency to be an argument rather than mere assertion. Please state only your opinion as you said before. You are being fallacious, and I do not understand. MMA is in fact very adorable. Your opinion is invalid to state in generalized public where minor voice is minimum. Objectively speaking, people prefer to see MMA more than Polt. MMA performs better, has more fans, and only thing that is inferior in his element to polt is team, but I emphasize that it was not his personality that made him teamless.

oh, not sure. i think a lot would prefer seeing polt over mma atm, especially since polt is a much better player atm

Can't be totally agreed, I like both player, but when MMA had a normal team so before the beginning of the slayers clash he was one of the best player better than Polt, who never confirms his big player status. he is doing well in international tournament but he's not so good in Korea.
Without talking about level and results MMA and Polt are too awesome guy. Just Polt is travelling more than MMA so you're more used to see him.
Last thing don't forget MMA is the Emperor's favorite player, like Fantazy was...

I think in France at least MMA made a loooooooooot of fans during IS 1.
And no ffs, he should not go play LoL >< reading that hurts my eyes so bad.
21 of 32 ( - 24 invited, 8 qualified ) are koreans ... 1 French in a French tourney. At least it's (almost) even race distribution thanks to the invites.

Thank god for that. The quality of a tournament is directly proportional to the percentage of koreans participating.
What a sick lineup! I really want ThorZain to do well this tournament, I hope he can pull out some solid play and spoon his opponents to death! Otherwise it will be nice to see all the Korean Terrans play. I was a little bit sad that none qualified for WCS Shangai. But this is going to be a great tournament I'm sure. GLHF

Hm, I'm pretty sure the games are already being played at the moment, since Darkforce said on SOTG that Delphi was already playing. I think we would have heard something if a player dropped out, but I'm not sure if all the groups are played out at the same time, of course.

From Tournament Admin (me !) : DF said something wrong, we are Scheduling the matches with everyone at the moment, matches aren't played yet for Delphi.
