Multiple sources have confirmed to ESFI that AZUBU are planning to announce the signings of former SlayerS players Jung "Genius" Min Soo, Kim "Eve" Shee-Yoon and Kim "Sleep" Seong Han. Former oGs and apeX players Song "InCa" Joon Hyuk and Kim "TOP" Jung Hoon are also in discussions with AZUBU and are possibilities to join the team.
The new players will join Kim "viOLet" Dong Hwan on the roster, who has been one-manning AZUBU's StarCraft 2 presence since August. AZUBU also have two top League of Legends teams, Blaze and Frost.
In mid-October, AZUBU hired former MBC Game caster and former Brood War pro Mr. Sung Choon 'IntoTheRain' Im as the team's head coach, a strong signal that AZUBU was preparing to bring on more StarCraft 2 players. AZUBU StarCraft 2 Genius (P) Eve (P) Sleep (Z) viOLet (Z)
Genius, who joined SlayerS in July after leaving MVP in June, is most known for his runner-up finish in GSL 2012 Season 1, where he lost out to DRG in the final. Eve was taken into SlayerS by the team's manager Jessica, and became the first female StarCraft 2 player to compete in an official GSL match (the team's last GSTL match versus MVP).
Also a former SlayerS member, Sleep left his most recent team, CheckSix Gaming, on July 14th. CheckSix disbanded one month later.
After representing the now-defunct Korean team Old Generations, both InCa and TOP were picked up by apeX eSports, together with VINES, jookTo and MorroW. The relationship only lasted three weeks. The team's four Korean players were left "angry and disappointed" after being forced to pull out of DreamHack Bucharest after team management failed to book flights and hotel. The trio of InCa, TOP and VINES left the team officially on October 25th.
Interesting choice in signing Eve. I wonder how good she really is, I never really see her playing and the one time she did, she was playing Terran because of the rules. I really hope she does well, the more females that burst onto the scene, the better.
Suddenly one of the best teams out there. I hope the oGs boys get picked up too.
edit:

I think she was but race switched but because of the GSTL rules stating that you have to play as the race you signed up as she had to play vs Sniper as terran instead of toss.
And I am pretty sure Eve is Protoss, Slayers got her race wrong and she was forced to play Terran in that GSTL game against sniper. That's what I've heard at least.

Ah, no wonder she got completely demolished. Poor Eve.
It's nice to see that Azubu taking time to carefully consider things after they enlisted Violet. I just hope that this new addition will benefit Violet when he has been working so hard.
On December 17 2012 13:38 P7GAB wrote: SICK! i thought eve was Terran
yeah just realized that...I put in italics Terran but I'll remove it once there is a source of Eve confirming a race change to Protoss
It was announced in an interview post-GSTL with Cella that she had changed races but was forced to play as Terran in the GSTL due to that being the race she was submitted at in the roster at the start of the GSTL season.

Curious about this myself.
I actually am friends with the current Manager of MJ Dong wook kim (formerly HannibalPrime). MJ didn't really have much os an assoication with NaDa, or they did but they no longer do, and they haven't for a few months. MJ still has their team, and they recently have been working on a teamhouse as well. They also sponsor 3 players in Guineapig (not the famous one) Bboongbboong, and bitbybit.
Never was a fan of Violet and Azubu. Well, with Violet being the only player it was almost the same. But now I suddenly like this team a lot. NaDa and Genius... so awesome. Good for Eve and Sleep too. =)
It's a hoax ! Our beloved prophet Destiny has spoken : SC2 is dying and we are all doomed. Don't follow the infidels and jump on the LoLwagon, your only hope of salvation !!!
Great for their team, but Eve? I'd imagine they're adding her because she's a girl and it makes the team look good to have a girl on board; its just like on Slayers.
Oooo I always liked violet but never cared for azubu as a team because its a one man show. With the pick up of the new players and NaDa azubu is probably now one of my favorite teams

She has been reported to actually be pretty good (at toss) after basically offracing in her GSTL game. At the very least good enough to be considered more a trainee or B-teamer than 'a nonsense pickup that only happened cuz she has boobs.' (at least this time)
On December 17 2012 15:50 CoR wrote: eve was terran, did she switch race ?
yes she switched to protoss while she was still on Slayers but had to play terran in the GSTL because they never updated it on the roster. She's been protoss for a few months
woah woah woah woah woah. I was completely prepared about how happy I was that genius found a team and then I clicked the spoiler and damn. Just damn its very good to see that Nada hasnt given up yet.
Edit: I would just like to say Nada joining a new team should be in the title because thats a huge story.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG YES Elation. This is amazing! TOP and NaDa were two of my favorite terrans in the early GSL before I even knew NaDa as a legend. I have fallen hard for VioLet since i watched him fight his way through IPL 5. This team has everything it takes to compete in high level for team leagues. I am excited!
I know it's selfish, but I was really hoping the subtitles would have said "Player/Manager". Anwho, welcome back Nada, you're awesome and we missed you.
They don't have a single Terran on their team atm. But since Nada has something to do with them, Azubu will propably be my favorite team now! (please get a Terran player T_T)

It's impossible to say, because she was forced to play Terran having switched to Protoss months before.
I hope these guys make an effort to learn English like Violet is as well. I've been very impressed with Violet's effort to accommodate AZUBU not only performing well in tourneys but to address sponsors in effective manner.
NaDa as a manager is good to see. I hope Azubu gets some Korean Terrans to even out their roster of Z's and P's. But it seems like a good Korean Terran is sort of rare these days, let alone a teamless one. I wonder what happened to Ensnare? Top is in discussions to join the team, hopefully he does.
On December 17 2012 17:07 Digitalis wrote: I didnt exactly watch the last Eve game vs Sniper, all i heard was that she cried. For anyone who watched the game: Is she any good?
Not really.
When she was in SlayerS and put in the roster, she was put in as a Terran player. She plays Toss but couldn't change race. That's basically why she did that double reactor helion play and hoped for the best. Sniper saw it and defended it easily leading to an easy win for him.
Hopefully her Toss is good, but we'll see in due time.
Always good to hear of a new legit team. And really surprised Nada is back, imagine hes done with WOL still. Will probably try and get a leg up on everybody by practicing hots.
honestly odd hes back so soon, he seemed so unmotivated when he left. Whatever Nada being back is good for the scene no matter what.
This is the best news we could have received at the end of the year, lots of good, talented and hardworking Korean pro gamers have finally found new homes, and its a good new home. AZUBU have proven to be respectable and dependable so far, treating Violet very, very well.
And lastly, HELL YEAH, NADA IS BACK!!!
After all the negativity of having people retire and teams disband this was a much needed silver lining to the dark clouds looming overhead.
I'm not exactly sure why they took Eve. I mean, female players are good and well, but she hasn't done anything yet, has she? Scarlett at least brings some results.
Is it just a promotion stunt thing, or is there some reason that I don't understand?
I don't know what to think about NaDa. I really dislike the idea that he formed a team, attracted a few players with his fame, and then just leaves the team to join another. This isn't exactly morally correct, if you ask me.
Damn, thats pretty insane. This is good news for Azubu. And now viOLet has a few decent practice partners. Big things to come from these guys, especially with Nada at the top <3
I think its time for Slasher, or someone else to do some digging on Azubu and see if they are a solvent company. They don't seem to have any products, any sponsors or any cash flow. The only information you can find is about their CEO who seems to be famous for going bankrupt every 8 years.
Smells like hes just trying to drum up publicity to get another investor, or get a boost in the share prices. Is this another Quantic?

didnt Azubu sponsor some OGN's LoL tourneys and have 2 teams in it? They must be pretty legit. I'd expect them to enter Proleague in the future. Hows about saving team 8th?
Great news, AZUBU and Axium have really been what the Sc2 community needed to turn around the dark mood that was spreading over the community like Scarlet's creep spread after the demise of Slayers and Quantic.
And even though the other players arent my personal favorites, its awesome to see new teams expand and pick up the players without a team and save them from an early retirement!

this is a bit disturbing.
If there are problems, it will hurt LoL much more than SC2. Blaze and Frost are strong.

Promotion with girls in Korea. From the looks of the website, I don't really know what they do, but they have a Korean office, so I guess (cynically) in part it's to try and appeal more to female gamers, although no one really knows what Eve's skill level is because she never really got shown by SlayerS, so for all we know, she could actually be quite decent, although not top SlayerS level decent.
Was waiting for a long time now to see Violet not being forever alone anymore, good luch to all of them! Azubu seems so big in LoL, was wondering when they will grow their sc2 squad, from what i heard here and there, they have a shit ton of money, new EG inc!
I like the pickup of Eve, because I think if she is dedicated enough she could do well. Not necessarily in GSL's and such(which would be cool if she reaches that level), but in the all girl tournaments. Especially with players like MisS and Aphrodite on Startale; I think it would be good to see more girls enter pro teams.
I am really excited to see Sleep return to a team. Hopefully he can make it to Code A next season.
Perfect for Genius; he's been putting up decent results in code a and now that he has a team even better. I hope they get a good practice situation set up in Korea!
Excellent news! Now Azubu has almost a full, legit SC2 roster, that's awesome. If they could even pick up 2-3 more players, they would have enough for GSTL if they so desire.

I'd think that something like 6-8 players would be a full roster.

I remember during the OGN LoL tourney, the thread here was talking about how there were so many rumours about azubu and how it was like a shell company used for money laundering. However, those were all rumours in korea and nothing was ever proven.

It says Inca and Top are in discussion to join Azubu, they left a different team, Apex, in October. I forgot Sleep, so that is actually 5 pro gamers right now, if everything works out.
I wonder why no one does pick up theStC. He is teamless and a better player than top or Inca (don't wanna say they don't deserve it) and shows great results in all tournaments.

What exactly does Azubu do? It looks like a Korean version of Raid Call, as in they have free voice chat software and somehow manage to sponsor a ton of teams. Either way, I'm glad they support e-sports.

Even more respectable that he didn't go for LoL. Yay!
I wonder if NaDa will try to get Keen on his team. After all, he's the first player he picked in SC2 as someone with talent. ( and then proceed to destroy his chance to make code S every time they met )

I just read that site as well. I don't know how they earn money, they just mention "providing game content" and social networks as their services. I hope they have a sound business plan (or they're just rich esports philanthropists, works fine for me as well). But all we can go by is that they have two successful lol teams, so I'd just assume they know what they're doing and hope for the best.

There's a lot of firms you know nothing about who can have a lot of money. Their motive to get into esport is a bit obscure tho I feel.
Like, we all know here FXO is a trading firm, but I have no idea what they gain being in esport, since you can't really buy anything from them. Azubu feel the same to me right now
I wonder if Azubu will be looking to join the GSTL soon... with a few more Code A level pick ups they would have a very solid lineup, certainly stronger than the weakest eSF teams.
They didnt create ognlol, they are the sponsor for ognlol. Ognlol has been around even before azubu sponsored them, Azubu also sponsor the 2 strongest korean LoL teams who were formerly known as MiG, Frost and Blaze.

Before MMA came on, the best four Terran for the future looked to be Mvp, MKP, Polt and TOP. I've always viewed him as the ultimate rival for Polt. They faced twice in semifinals, with Polt winning one (Super Tourmament) and TOP getting his revenge two seasons later in August before losing to Mvp in the finals. Polt was all micro with terrible macro, and TOP was all macro with terrible micro. Polt was able to transform himself into a complete player, and it felt like TOP was never able to do the same. I want TOP to return to Code S and show that he can become a complete player as well.
There really aren't any good Terran options out there besides him. Except if Azubu is waiting for HoSeo to die so they can pick up jjakji.

So Azubu is basically oGs+SlayerS judging from the players. At least viOLet is no longer a lonely player in Azubu, and NaDa has not decided to join LoL (aka The Dark Side). I'm happy we get to see some of the rather quiet players finally get on the scene, especially some we expected to retire any day (TOP and InCa). Good luck to the team, though I think they will get along fine.
it is good for the scene that a company with such a strong presence in LoL is looking to expand more into SC2, it show us that SC2 is fine and that the games can co-exist.
also, genius and fucking NADA. the return of TOP is definitely interesting. inca's destiny is to knock nestea out of Code A in two seasons with DTs.

Like, we all know here FXO is a trading firm, but I have no idea what they gain being in esport, since you can't really buy anything from them. Azubu feel the same to me right now
If nothing else, recruits? We are mostly geeks here, and if they can use this as an opportunity to hire programmers and the like.

I always thought that TOP and ByuN had some of the most even TvTs ever.

Maybe inca got better, who knows, I haven't seen him play in such a long time he might be a legitimately good player now
Inca got second in Code S. Don't underestimate him.
NaDa will be managing and then when they're in like GSTL or something he'll just be like "screw it im going to send myself in cus i don't trust these scrubs to close this out." Just wait. And hope. And it'll happen The new recruits are actually pretty decent though. Nice to see InCa back.

If only Rain would have not played like an idiot in their Ro32 match he wouldn't have even gotten there. Or if he didn't cheese out his own teammate NaDa. But its ok........NesTea rolled that kid. Three gate DT expand shut down every single time.

She played in their finale GSTL match against MVP. She was one of their losses suffered in being AK'd by Sniper. Aside from that, she's played in some other matches, but more representing Female SC2 rather than SlayerS.

Nope, NaDa never switched to LoL and never even had the slightest inkling of a thought to switch over to LoL. Before leaving, he said that he was going to the military and was hoping to come back to SC2 as a team owner or manager in the future. Dunno why people keep thinking about LoL and NaDa. I'm pretty sure that LoL was never mentioned even once when he retired, but that his imminent SC2 return was very well illuminated.
Anyways, I think I just got myself a new favorite team! viOLet, my favorite WC3 Orc Genius, my favorite SC2 Toss Eve, just because you have to support eSport's expansion to the female community inCa, because you always need someone there to punch your enemy in the balls TOP, because he was always solid, and always a good choice to send out in any situation and NADA, my favorite SC:BW Terran. Probably the eSports player I'll root for the most!

She was put in Slayers last GSTL match but had to all in because she was forced to play terran as thats what they registered her under before the season started even though she plays toss T_T

Playing against Sniper right before his rampage in GSL did not help her show off her skills either.
And before continuing LOL hate, keep in mind that Azubu is LOL team expanding to SC2. A welcome or thanks would be more suited here.
Will nada be playing? Man I remember reading that post he wrote long time ago about how he won't give up and about his father. I hope he comes back and makes a comeback! Will also be interesting to see eve play toss now
There is news about Iris join Azubu to be assistant coach. Hope somebody can translate from Korean website. Looks like Azubu is really serious about SC2 business, they can become a power house soon.

That would be correct indeed.
Very interesting. Wonder if they're just saving up for one big announcement close to pre-GSTL or if contract negotiatons weren't as close as the sources thought?

They don't take foreign players, only Koreans. Naniwa said that few minutes ago on his stream.
I am curious as to why is that. Did Naniwa elaborate why? I feel it's a shame, say a great foreign player like Naniwa or whoever would not be signed to a team like Azubu just due to their nationality or being not a Korean (I really hope this isn't the case, but it seems like it). The language barrier shouldn't be an issue with Violet around who has excellent English.
Still need to pick up two (or all three) of Polt, TheStC and Supernova, and they need to sign YuGiOh. This is looking at the current free agent roster.
Genius, TOP, Inca, Vines and Sleep join Eve and Violet on Azubu.
Now all they need are Polt and Supernova to be a really good team.
Doubt they would sign Polt since Polt's whole reason for leaving TSL is so he can go to US
I'm worried about their coaching signing though. Lots of star power, but great players don't always make great coaches and none of them have any coaching experience AFAIK.

Azubu's first signing was a Korean who lives in America who only went to Korea twice last year and even dropped out of the GSL. I think Azubu wants a Korean + global presence. Polt would be a fine signing that could come to Korea here and again alongside Violet for big GSTL matches or the occasional GSL. They also are looking to have a roster that won't need Polt/Violet to be there 24/7.
Different from Axiom who only has three members, all live in Korea, and will probably need to live in Korea full-time.

So many old school sc2 guys. Hopefully they can get a big enough roster to join the next GSTL season.
