PartinG, who was a player who attended a KeSPA "Posting" for the first time as an eSF player will be putting on the SK Telecom T1 uniform.
On the afternoon of January 14th, PartinG attended the KeSPA posting that went on at Seoul SahngAhmDong, where he was selected to join by SK Telecom T1. PartinG's posting event took place in front of SC2 players, KT Rolster head coach Lee Ji Hoon, SK Telecom T1 head coach BoxeR, and an audience. Orginially from eSTRO, PartinG returns to the KeSPA organization after two years.
After leaving eSTRO and joining StarTale, PartinG wasn't able to grab a championship for any national leagues. His best record is making the semi finals of the 2012 GSL Season 2 Code S last year. However, he was labeled as potentially the best player in the world after he grabbed a first place finish in both WCS Global Finals and WCG. PartinG made around $200,000 in winnings alone last year.
After leaving StarTale on January 3rd, PartinG stated that he would join either a foreign team or a KeSPA team. Everything pointed to PartinG joining a foreign team because he did so well in overseas tournaments but in the end, PartinG decided to join a KeSPA team.
SK Telecom T1 now has a monstrous duo of Protsses in PartinG and Rain, who grabbed third place at the WCG Global Finals and a first place finish in the 2012 Auction All Kill OSL. PartinG, who will be eligible to participate in Proleague starting from Round 4 will allow SK Telecom T1 to potentially have a vantage point over any other team in their race for the top spot.
The very two letters that I uttered upon seeing this thread.
SKT1 really wants that championship, and Parting will be a formidable asset in that endeavor. I hope the balance of power will correct itself by having Squirtle join KT.
I dunno how Best, Bisu and Paralyze will feel about this...on one hand, perhaps Parting can teach them some things that Rain couldn't, but on the other hand, they're never gonna get to play, at least not in the WL rounds.
1) SKT T1 is going to rape in Proleague now 2) All the Bisu comments - I mean playing in proximity with Parting would likely help him to improve his Protoss play. Let's hope it is more of a helpful addition rather than a replacement.
I hate myself for being pissed at Squirtle and Parting for doing this. I'm sure financially it will be a lot better, and I bet that it has been their dream to play in Proleague. But man, I really don't like how they left Startale like that.
Honestly, the fact that players can simply just join a Kespa team when their contract expires almos entirely nullifies the trade restriction between ESF and Kespa.

bisu is pretty much the 5th protoss in skt1 behind rain, parting, best and paralyze at the moment. 5 protoss on the A team is way too much.

We're seeing why things were the way there were in BW. Money wins. Kespa is gigantic and ESF really never had a chance to compete. Its a sad reality we're watching unfold. We all wished it wouldn't end up true, yet here we are.
SKT T1 woot! whenever a player comes intot he fold, the always stay forever in SKT T1. Best team, most resources, founded and managed by Boxer. Being SKT T1 fans is always awesome.
I am as happy about SKT1 picking up Parting as I am about Nestea having already won the last wol GSL season and Iron Squid. Yes, Nestea decided this and it will be.

Yeah, this is the perfect time for Bisu to change to another race now.
Now all they need to do is acquire Squirtle. Squirtle, Best, Bisu, Rain, Parting, Afrotoss will be the new Six Dragons in SC2. You heard it here first folks.

I like how KT bid when they already have two Protoss aces and a decent third in Lizzy who barely plays.
Do what good teams with lots of money do. Buy players so no one else can have them even if you dont need them.

Now that I think about it, this make a lot of sense. SKT right now is a 3 man lineup with Rain, Fantasy, and soO. Best, Bisu, and ssak can play, but they really don't accomplish much. If SKT wants to make it to proleague finals, they will need to deepen their lineup. Good pickup by SKT.
This news and the twitter hint that FXO and StarTale might be finished soon make me really feel worried for StarCraft 2. I wasn't worried before, but now I'm starting to get a little bit uncomfortable with the situation were having right now

Strange that he can't participate until R4 and not R3.
Well this is nice considering SKT is my favorite Kespa team, although I'm worried about an unbalanced level of competition in Proleague. Even before Parting joining SKT we already have a big difference in performance from the top 3 teams to the bottom 5. We'll see how it goes in Round 4 I suppose.

FXO? Aren't they rich? And ST is sponsored by RedBull. Damn... I didn't know they may have problems.
Congratulations to Parting and SKT. I hope it is good for Bisu.
SKT1 is going to get a lot of Ex-Startale fans after this. If Squirtle goes to them as well (however unlikely that is) I may just have to jump on the bandwagon too.

I disagree, if only because MarineKing seems to have made it his mission in life to do well at SC2 and ensure that Prime never dies.
Besides, MarineKing would probably go to KT - that's where the cool Terran kids are nowadays. Boxer has turned to dark side of Aiur.

KT and SKT will each have around 85 people on their roster. HoSeo will have four.

Why in seven hells they wanted to strengthen their protoss line-up? I mean i like SKT, and i like Parting, but this seems like a waste. They didnt need a strong protoss one bit. No. It does. KeSPA can't take players currently on eSF teams. eSF players can't break contracts to join KeSPA teams. And even if a player's contract with an eSF team ends, that player is still unable to play in PL until the original end date of the agreement not to "steal" players. He can't play until PL Round 4, which is when the the agreement was to end.

If you were smart you would have read the trade agreement. If the player's contract runs out they're allowed to move to what ever team they please. They're not allowed to TRADE players STILL UNDER CONTRACT. PartinG's contract RAN OUT with Startale. So it still means something your just dumb and can't read agreements properly. This has been discussed and the reason it's allowed was stated many times. Go do research before posting something as stupid as this

They played HotS beta, decided to go for a 100% Protoss line up for maximum success? Note that they say Parting will sit out until HotS comes out, there's your answer. :p
I'm slightly confused. I thought Parting left Startale since he wanted "to experience much more things while I'm still young". Is there a drastic difference between the opportunities presented to SKT1 members as opposed to the Startale members?
Bisu should seriously switch to Terran for HOTS, all they have is Fantasy and some okay but not great support players for T. If Bisu became good at Terran he could still get a regular spot on the PL roster even with Parting and Rain being played every match.

Bisu and paralyze are like code B at best. Rain has been underperforming a little and Best is not as reliable as he used to be. I don't see how picking up one more Protoss ace makes SKT1 too Protoss heavy. I mean shit. Look at TSL (former?) Liquid and Acer.
I don't understand where all this unfair stacked BS is coming from. Are any of you guys actually following pro league? Top 3 teams are neck to neck and the 4th place spot is closely contested. Honestly the only team that is sucking way more than they should be is kahn wtf.

Kespa will never bother themself to explain in detail all the little things, so just move on.
Admired Boxer, talked about Rain and Best, wishing to be teammates. Very good contract offer, he's even surprised. He wished for SKT lottery win over KT.
KT better get really far ahead if they want to have a shot at winning PL >.>
That said, I think this is great for Parting; SKT is a great team and it should provide him with an excellent practice environment (and hopefully a large paycheck).- he has loads of potential.

Having PartinG is SKT T1 won't change much in the ranking. => He's not allowed to play until Round 4 => Round 4 is Heart of the Swarm => Everyone is basically at square 1

Gratz to parting, skt1 and kt are literally the two best teams he could have joined in terms of quality of practice/salary ratio. Can't wait to see him kill nerds in round 3 of proleague.

There we go.
That would be correct, except Parting does have insanely good micro on his side (and micro and macro skills don't go away just like that). It's not like he made all his money solely off of being ahead of the metagame.

I am not sure about that. Of course, some players will drop off and some new players will rise up. But that happened naturally through time anyways. If BW skills/work ethic can transfer over, I am sure WoL skills/work ethic will transfer even better to HoTS since it is the same game. Of course, PartinG might not be as dominate as WoL, but I doubt he will just go back to being average once HoTS hits. And after that, it will depend on how hard he works (same with every other player switching to HoTS).
How do you think things will go with Rain in the quarterfinals? Your PvP does appear to be shaky.
I don't think that my PvP is weak. If I try my best, I can win. During my BW days, Rain-hyung would do things like letting me watch his games. Since we were able to meet like this in SC2, I want to play an entertaining match with him.
The sting of the loss in OSL still rings deep...
You don't necessarily have the best PvP score yet you were confident that you would beat finale if you faced him?
Recently I've been winning all my PvPs. Back when I sucked at PvPs it was because I just wasn't practicing them. But after my loss to Rain hyung in the OSL, I've had this determination to extensively practice PvPs as well. So I've been preparing really hard since then and Squirtle hyung has helped me in so many areas where I was lacking so I was able to cover my holes.
Then at WCS Asia,
How do you feel about your performance this time? Actually I'm surprised to get a 2nd place. After seeing the bracket I know it will be hard, so my goal was getting into Top 6. But I kept willing so I aimed higher, sadly I lost to Rain.
And so the rivalry begins...
Are there any evidences as to why your immortal all ins are so strong?
Rain hyung stated that he saw my play back in WCS Asia and said he came up with a sure victory build order thanks to me. But then he tried it against hyvaa twice and ended up losing. I had a lot of fun watching that occur. There was no soul in his all ins. He also improperly placed his force fields. That's how much soul he's lacking. He can't win.
The thirst for vengeance...
Do you have anyone in this tournament you view as a rival?
I have a chance to face Rain hyung in the finals so I hope he makes it all the way there so I can grab my revenge.
Which match would you call your most difficult during this event?
There wasn't a single player whom I would consider an obstacle. The person whom I wanted to face in this tournament was Rain-hyung. I wanted to get revenge on him for the WCS Asia finals.
Do you have confidence that you will take the GSL Grand Finals?
I am indeed confident. I think that it'll be just like winning WCG 2012: aside from Rain, I've had experience defeating all of the other players, so I think I can manage to win. I've lost to Rain before at WCS Asia and the OSL, so I want to face him at the GSL Grand Finals and make sure to get my revenge.
Rain won OSL so how do you feel about that?
I can't help but think that I would've been the one standing there on the stage if I had just beaten Rain hyung. Honestly, I'm envious because of his victory but I'm also close friends with Rain hyung so I want to congratulate him. It seems like Rain hyung has been blocking my paths lately so this time it'll be my turn to do the same for him for the GSL.
Is there anyone specific you want to face for the Ro16?
If I get a chance to pick, I am going to grab MarineKing hyung, Rain hyung, and DRG hyung. I am confident that I can get through even a group of death. I especially want to face Rain hyung the most out of these three so I really hope Rain hyung makes it to the Ro16.
The saying goes, "Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer." I'd be sure to watch my back if I were Rain
On January 14 2013 17:23 lfredl wrote: wait. is it official that the round 4 will be HOTS?
Yes, as every other big tournament (GSL, MLG, IPL, etc) has already said they would switch once HoTS is out. I think all the players will be switching so it would be wierd if they had to play/practice both. Honestly, I think a lot of the players that did not make GSL and not in PL have probably started playing around HoTS.
If you read the interviews, most players haven't started playing it. But again, those interviews are from players still in GSL/PL.
Why did only KT and SKT T1 try to sign him? It is sad to see that he isnt going to a team located in the lower half to help push them out of their misery -.-
if KT rolster gets parting they become *more* unstoppable. Even if Parting can not play , but practicing with him among teammates will have great benefits

I'm not sure if it was mentioned already but according to OSEN, his contract is until September 2013 and salary is around 70mil Korean Won (~66275.30 US Dollar).

It would have been 105 mil for a one year contract, not really sure why It's only until september. I guess they want to reevaluate his worth at that time.

I don't think all eSF players will get this kind of contract, unfortunately. ST is probably channeling all the Squirtle/Parting money into Life right now, since him leaving would be disastrous for the team.
Good news for SKT cuz they needed someone who can win more than lose! Now they have Rain, Fanta and Parting to get wins but they still need 4th big name to become a power house again unless Parting can actually teach Bisu...

Glad to hear that only SKT T1 and KT bid on Parting. That must mean that the salary that Kespa fixed for him wasn't that low. Something me and probably a bunch of other people feared. GL in your new team, Parting!!!

Dunno if this has been mentioned in the thread before (is there a way to search within the thread?), but Parting's salary seems to be about 70 million KRW a year, or about $70,000 USD.

Gratz to Parting! On a side note, I feel like Bisu will retire soon. SKT has to top notch tosses in Rain and Parting. Best also seems to be performing significantly better than Bisu currently. So basically, right now Bisu is contending with Paralyze for the fourth toss spot on the team

Rain must be making close to 100k if that's the case
I doubt it lol
Bisu's salary was slashed from 250million to probably 100 million the year before, big cut on his salary, some of his salary went to Rain. Rain definitely makes more than 100milion a year.

It's actualy rather simple just keep getting championship players, and the lineup keeps getting "sicker"
In all seriousness though... Poor guy, having not one, but arguably the two best Protoss players on the team. Maybe he'll rise to the occasion, maybe he'll just die :I
I'm never gonna understand why someone like PartinG should join a Kespa-team. He won 200'000$ in one year mostly from foreign tournaments - either they pay him a fuckload of money so he doesn't need the money from the foreign tournaments or he's just plain stupid to do without those tournaments. Because... I don't think he'll be allowed to play on many foreign tournaments anymore. Oo

Do you really think he can win that much money this year again, with the HOTS coming? He will be extremely lucky if he can win 3 individual tournaments in the whole year.
BTW, he can participate most of the big foreign tournaments out there, KeSPA teams' attitudes toward foreign tournaments are changing. Also, he will not play in SPL for at least 2 months, that's enough free time.

One thing that I find hilarious in all of this is, people insisted that esf players would be done when all the kespa stars came and took their money. And now Parting just pushed Bisu to SKT's b-team :D

Well, of course I don't know how successful he's going to be in HotS. And yeah, KeSPA teams' attitudes toward foreign events are changing but I still don't think they really care about ANYTHING outside Korea. I don't think that they're ever going to chance their schedule in order to let their players participate on a MLG tournament, even less for any other foreign event. I might be wrong (And I really hope so!), but it seems kinda unlikely imo.

He won most of it from WCS and WCG both of which Kespa players play in. He can still play OSL, GSL, MLG. The only really big money tournament he is missing is NASL, IPL and the big Dreamhacks.
Also, it is not like he is guaranteed to win $200,000 each year. His $70,000 salary would have been close to top 10 in earnings in 2012. Remember that a lot of tournaments are top heavy. If you don't have a top 2-3 finish in one of the big events, your winnings for a year is something like $10,000-$15,000.
I wonder if Bisu might take more of a coaching role soon if he doesn't improve in SC2 now when they have both Rain and Parting. Glad to hear Parting's going to SKT T1 though!

Will they definitely be allowed to play MLG? I thought there were always just a few players who play there because of their cooperation, but not really because a "player would like to attend".
And yes, I agree that you need a top 3 placement to actually get a decent amount of money - that's why I'd agree that it's a good thing for some... Decent players to join a KeSPA teams but not really for the ones who win everythig abroad. And yes, I agree that you need a top 3 placement to actually get a decent amount of money - that's why I'd agree that it's a good thing for some... Decent players to join a KeSPA teams but not really for the ones who win everythig abroad. (And btw: he got a salary from Startale as well, just not as much as he's getting now, but it's not that he relied solely on his success)
Well, it is not like PartinG was sent to MLGs when he was on ST. How many players won $70,000 US from playing aboard last year? Just because you won a lot this year, doesn't not mean anything next year. Think about it, if PartinG had not perfected his wonwonwon, he probably would have only won $30,000 or so last year. He was 2 Bo3 alway from not making $130,000 plus ( if he didn't qualify thru WCS Korea). These are not good odds.
Of course, the players at the top look like they are making huge money, but competition is so fierce at the top level. A couple bad matches at the wrong times can cost you a lot of money.

Well, assuming that he asks for similar pay (probably less than PartinG but not significantly so), KT will probably be the only ones that will bid for him.

If KT is the only team who wants to bid for him, price should be much lower, even half price won't be a surprise.
After leaving StarTale on January 3rd, PartinG stated that he would join either a foreign team or a KeSPA team. Everything pointed to PartinG joining a foreign team because he did so well in overseas tournaments but in the end, PartinG decided to join a KeSPA team.
Does anyone really buy this? I don't think Parting left ST and went looking for a team. I think he was already contacted by someone from Kespa when he left. He was offered a deal, that's why he didn't want to renew his contract.
What about we lave the baseless speculation and drama somewehere else?

Yes, and during matches, KT shouldn't be allowed to use Flash.

If they arent going to pay him then they dont get to have him.

That usually makes for really bad leagues because most teams can't afford to compete on the economic level when getting players, where there are only 1-2 teams really good teams. I can relate that to spanish football league which is a shitfestival Madrid vs Barça =P

Well, it is not like the highest bidder won. Kespa settled on a price for PartinG and any team willing to pay that price (~$70,000 USD a year) was part of the lottery and had equal chance. But it seemed like only SKT and KT made a bit. It could be because the other teams couldn't afford it. Or they felt it was risky because PartinG wouldn't get to play until HoTS comes out and who knows what he performance would be like.
SKT and KT are probably the 2 teams with the deepest pockets so they can take a risk.
Will be interesting to see what Squirtle's asking price is and see if more teams bid on him.
Chinese site s.163.com reported that an unverified source in Korea said the contract was for 70 million won (66k USD). The contact length is until sept this year.
If you're talking about proleague specifically then my response is: "good question" lol
You
You sir are a good human being <3
^_^ I knew someone would appreciate
I'm frowning at you at the moment. Do you realize how many of those ESF players were actually KeSPA players prior including this guy? o-O Really it's getting old. When you guys bring up ESF versus KeSPA it's more political strung than anything else. Not really about the players because a stupid amount of them were KeSPA prior so they have a pretty good idea of what it's like in those houses and training facilities. Including PartinG.
Q: You've previously had the experience of being a Kespa team practice partner(B Teamer)
PartingG: A lot of fans joked that this is the "Return of the dish washer". But I will remain humble, I will keep reminding myself of the hard days and will continue to work hard in the future. But because it's a team house life, if the team still need me to wash dishes, I will not refuse.
^ This is what being in a Kespa team mean for these guys.
edit: The 66k USD salary was reported in a Chinese site but was not verified. In this interview PartingG said he will not reveal his salary but he think it's more than his worth.

I find it a bit weird that Bisu isn't mentioned at all by Parting. Guess he knows he's the new boss, lol.

Bad comparison. SC2 is not a team game where as basketball is. Having as much talent as possible will always work in your favor in SC2 where as it might not work as well in basketball.
Gratz to Parting, this kid really deserves the best. By the way, I'm curious to see if KESPA PR policies affect his interview style at all. I hope not because his interviews are really hilarious. Also, Bisu T_T

SKT's best player is Rain and got his ass kicked down to Code B by Dream, who then got his ass kicked in the second round of Code A and in the Up and Downs.
On January 15 2013 05:53 morevox wrote: All this talk of Bisu retiring. Has that been confirmed or a source?
Well, with Parting on the team now, Bisu is not going to be fielded, like ever.
Well both Parting and Squirtle were on the same team and they would both be fielded. I'm hoping Bisu can learn a lot from Parting..
Yes because Parting and Squirtle were the first and second best protosses on the team. Bisu is now probably 4th best protoss on his team (maybe 3rd if you are feeling generous).
On January 15 2013 05:53 morevox wrote: All this talk of Bisu retiring. Has that been confirmed or a source?
No, but after PartinG joins SKT, there will be not only him, but also Rain as Protoss heavy-hitters, and with players like Best also looking stronger than Bisu. This means that there will be several Protoss on SKT better than Bisu atm, not to mention players from other races like Fantasy or soO.
So Bisu's chances of becoming an A-teamer are becoming even more slim. Thus people wonder if Bisu falls to irrelevancy, if he will retire.

Bisu just renewed his contract a few months back. Even if he hates the game, he will stick around for $200k a year.
I'd laugh if in the future all the top esf players end up on kespa teams, pushing out all the middling kespa players and leaving only the famous kespa players. Then the kespa teams would essentially be the esf teams in player base.
I remember Parting saying before that he played 5 HotS games every day. I wonder if SKT will have him start practicing even more with him not being able to play in Proleague until HotS comes out.

If he loses early in Code S there wont be any reason for him to even continue playing WoL.

Not gonna happen, not many teams have that much money to throw around to make changes. They rather draft talents from the rookie league organized by KeSPA which are going on this weekend with a huge prize pool.

Dont think skt will let him go there, better to focus on proleague instead.
there is no reason for him to practice proleague now because he wont be allowed in proleague till the end of this round, ie for the next 2 or so months. until then, hots will be released anyway. i guess they let him fly there and finish his gsl campaign and then make him focus on hots in the meantime.
People who said and thought about Parting's attending foreign tournaments in the future:
Wouldn’t your participation in foreign tournaments be more limited due to being a KeSPA player?
If I play well, I think I can go to anywhere. Nonetheless, I joined KeSPA mainly for my desire to play in Proleague. I wanted to show more about myself to Korean fans.
Team manager Cho Man Soo: PartinG has gone to foreign tournaments five times last year, and according to KeSPA’s plan, I believe he will be able to go more than that this year.

From the ESFIworld interview.
Maybe they are really serious about their plans to show the players in other countries :o I definitely hope so :-)
grats, not a big deal since Parting can't play till hots, parting may be good @ WOL, but for all we know he may have a hard time to adapt to hots, the stuff he does in WOL, you really can't do in hots atm. You won't see parting winning vs zerg with immortal all ins every game.
He didnot need immortal all ins to beat DRG Soo Life Violet recently so I think it should be good for him. He has the best protoss micro, and an excellent macro... He won't loose that then he should not loose too much level on HOTS.

He doesnt have the best micro. If youre talking about micro in general, there are other protoss players whose miro is as good or even better than Parting.
